Q: Solved: Excel: Adding Numbers in a Column on a Daily Basis?

Hello group,

I wasn't quite sure how to word the subject line. I would like to be able to add a number to column A everyday and have the cumulative sum of column A show in column B in the adjacent cell so I can chart it. So it would look something like this:

1 1
1 2
1 3
2 5
-1 4

I think it's something to do w/the SUM function but I can't quite figure it out. Any help much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, I need help creating a formula that adds Column A, only if Column B = 'A'.
I then need to multiply that counted value by another cell.

Can someone please help me? I think I'm over-thinking this.

Hello,

I am having trouble with Excel 2003 automatically adding the last digit in a Postal Code. For example, when I type in "R3R 4K5" in A1 and then click the corner of it and drag it down a couple of cells it goes from "R3R 4K5" to "R3R 4K6" and "R3R 4K7" and so on.

Is there an option that you can disable to prevent this?

Thanks!

Hi All,

I'd be very grateful if someone could assist please. I have a column (column C) that contains the sales price and I'd like to show the price with a 20% discount in column D.

I tried to insert a function but I don't know what one to choose!

As you can probably guess Excel isn't exactly my forte.

Most appreciative for any help.

Thanks.

A:Solved: Excel: Adding a column to show a discounted rate

So is column D input =C1*.8
the # behind the C is interchangable and should correspond with whichever number is in column C that should reflect the discounted price in column D. Then you are multiplying by .8 b/c that 100-20=80 and you are trying to show the final price I assume. after inputing that in just one row in column D highlight the cell and in the bottom right corner where a square appears hold down you left mouse button and drag down the column. that will populate all the other cells in column D. then you you change any number in column C the number should change in column D. I hope that helps. excel has pretty good help if you type in the help window. if you can't find it there some time i just google for answers.

Ok, look at screen shot below. These are all individual transactions of a sales file. I want to find out how many of each stock number was sold. Is there any way to group these so that it adds the total sales of each stock number? If not, it there a simple equation to do so? I am a total newbie when it comes to excel.

So I want something to look at that tells me I sold 7 of stock # 111 at a quick glance. And so on for each stock number. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry, but please don't question format or why I'm using excel. It is irrelevant. This is imported from our sales file and used just for a quick reference. I just want to be able to tell total sales with grouping or a equation. Its not that in depth.

A:Solved: Excel 2002 Simple adding of column with Criteria

How quick is the glance? Select the data, then use Data > Subtotals, with:

At each change in stock number -- use function Sum -- add subtotal to qty. Then you can use the (show level) 2 button below the Name Box.

Hi all

I've been wrecking my brains on this Excel VBA probem. I have a column of number that I want to add up. These numbers vary something like this:

2
6
5
Total 13

1
9
10
5
1
Total 26 The sets are longer than this sample and are hundred in nature.

These continue on down the column. I have hundreds of these sets of numbers to add up and the sets vary in length. I have used the following code that someone gave to me.

Range("B1").Select
Selection.End(xlDown).Select
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Range("A1").Select
vRowTop = 1
vRowBottom = ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 0).Row
vDiff = vRowBottom - vRowTop + 1
Selection.FormulaR1C1 = "=SUM(R[" & -vDiff & "]C:R[-1]C)"
This code adds up all the sets of numbers from top to bottom and not individual sets. Is there a VBA code that can do this for me. Even if I put the curser on the first number of the set and run a macro to add them up would be very helpful. This would save some time instead of me doing a SUM formula for all of them.

Be very specific in your answers since I am very new at this and need all the guidance I can get.

Thanks for all your help in the past. You guys have been great.

Excel 2010
I have a column of 22,000 phone numbers (and an additional column of fax numbers).
I'm trying to convert the numbers from nine digits to nine digits with hyphens.

I copied and renamed the original document. There are no protections.
To be certain, I ran the Doc Inspector. I'm still free to do anything to the list.

The instructions are easy:
Highlight column, select Format cell, click Custom, in Type, insert XXX-XXX-XXXX, click OK. That didn't work.
Next, instead of click Custom, I clicked Special, selected phone number, clicked OK.
Instead of hyphens, if it adds parentheses around the area code. I'm not that picky, although it takes more space.
That doesn't work either.

I am less than a novice in Excel when it comes to creating anything. I've managed to fill in others and not have to create my own.

The only thing that doesn't look like instructions is that the Sample above Type never changes.
I don't know if it should.

Thank you.

hello all,

in excel 2003, i need to add a whole column of numbers but i need to exclude any rows, and so it's corresponding cell in the column i'm adding, which may contain a particular string of text.

for example,

say there are 3 columns,

"date", "description", "amount"

i want a total for the amount column, "=sum(c:c)" but i don't want to include any cells which have a DESCRIPTION of "gratuity, thank you".

i hope this makes sense and any help is much appreciated.
many thanks.

Hi there, welcome to the board!

I would do one of two things.

1) Take a look at pivot tables
2) Take a look at SUMIF()

Both will get you where you want to go, although the first option is more powerful and robust, it has a much higher learning curve, whereas the second one is more succinct and easy yet less flexible.

Edit: This will get you started with the second item...
=SUMIF(B2:B10,"<>"&"gratuity, thank you",C2:C10)

The first spreadsheet I used was Lotus, it was so easy to program. After using Excel for many years now, I'm in need of macros in excel and I can't figure them out. 1) I need a program that will use column A (without gaps) to decide where the top and the bottom of the range is.Then it needs to add three different columns with this range (B - D which does have gaps) each column would be addded seperately with a different answer at the bottom of each range. There are several different goups of this data, all in columns A - D seperated by blank rows.

2) and easier for me to figure out, but if it was all done at the same time that would be GREAT. I need to multiply these sums by different numbers and place them in the row below (and formated with $).

3) (and not as important) I need a seperate macro that will insert rows at the row the cursor is on. (Every time I try this macro, it goes back up to the original row I recorded the macro in).

Hello, I have a worksheet in Excel, and I have a column of values I want to add. Here is an example:

How can I work around this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Offhand, without seeing a bit more data in a spreadsheet, I would suggest a second column where (assuming your times are in, say, A2:A100) have in column B:
=A2*1000, =A3*1000, and so on, then do a sum of column B like this:
=SUM(B2:B100)/1000

If I enter a name into cell J1 I want to check for this name in column H then for each row that is found on I would like to sum column B and output the result to cell J2. E.g. If I enter Paul into J1 I would like to search for this name in column H. For every row this is found on I would like the B cell for that row to be included in a sum of which the result is output to cell J2.

Is this possible and if so does anybody know how?

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I keep getting blue screen errors on a daily basis. I noticed they seem to be more frequent when using the computer then when not using it.

I built a custom computer using PC part picker. The parts I used can be viewed at this link:
Intel Core i5-4460, Fractal Design Define R4 (Titanium Grey) - System Build - PCPartPicker

The computer has been blue screening since I set it up or shortly after. I set the computer up around mid January and the BSOD's started in Jan.

When I took a look at the memory dumps the last few where caused by memory_corruption. Otherwise the minidump causes for the other where all over the place, but mostly they are complaining about ntkrnlmp.exe.

I removed Avast from the computer as a troubleshooting measure.

I have uploaded the DM log collector as instructed.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That has to be the most mixed bag of random BSOD's I've ever seen, however the first thing you need to do is install a legal copy of Windows before we can help.

Hello,
Is it possible in one cell to show the total of both the column and the row? The idea is that it would be a double check because they should add up to the same thing. I am working with Windows 2007.
Thanks.

Good day,

I am connected to a web media server and a VPN service on my PC and Macbook Pro. The services work properly and do not lose their connection on my Macbook, but lose their connection every day on my PC. This happens like clockwork. I will connect to my VPN and media server in the morning, and by mid-afternoon, they will have dropped their connection. Is it possible that apart from being a coincidental issue with both services I use, that it is an issue with my PC's network connection? The PC is hard-wired in. Does anyone have any troubleshooting recommendations or similar experiences to share?

Thank you,

Speck

Hey.
I have a pretty old Pc and lately (in the last week or so) I've started encountering Daily BSODs and PC going super slow mainly when gaming/after exiting games. (usually a restart fixes it).
I've installed BSODViewer and here is the dump:
I've encoutered same behavior before (not on so big scale, had a few BSODs in a week) but it somehow went away so I forgot about it. (Ik its stupid to do but yea..)

What could i do to stop it from BSODing? Im getting a new PC soon but until then i want this to hold on until then with minimal costs.

For some reason your tool doesnt want to run :l

My firewall (NPF2002) alerts me to Backdoor/SubSeven Trojan horse on a daily basis, at least once a day. Would this most likely be a false alarm? Not that it matters that much because it gets blocked but it would be nice to know. If it is false what might be causing it? Also, I have found a list of files associated with this trojan and have found none on my machine but what exactly does it do? How is it received, what purpose does it serve the person instituting it?

Hello,

I have the BitDefender Total security 2010 and I noticed there is a very huge problem with it.
BitDefender creates similar folders in C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Threat Scanner :
(WIN 7 32BIT)

The Content of the folders 'av32bit...' is completely identical. The problem is that each one is a waste of 230MB and
the only way I can delete them(It does not damage the AV) is at Safe Mode(And I don't want to do this everyday because they re-create..).
I think that it is caused by the active scanning of BitDefender because as the time pass I notice that the free space on Drive C
reduces(without doing sys scan, surfing the web and etc..).
Is there any way to solve this frustrating thing?(By the way it happened to me even when I had Win XP, and the AVG 8.5 That I had owned never caused this.)
If not, I'd like to have a recommendation for another Security solution as powerful as BitDef 2010 but a reliable one.

Thank you very much for your time !

A:BitDefender 2010 Consumes a lot of space On A Daily Basis!

I would let those files stay for a week or so, and see if BitDefender removes them on its own. Sounds silly to me that a program will grow files day over day without removing obsolete files.

Hi All
I'm using Excel 2003 SP3
I have a lot of data on a worksheet ranging from A to EK, but I would appreciate some help to have either a macro or visual basic code to grab columns H to EK (ideally it would be better to have it find when the last column heading or data was) and add a column next to each column that has data. Some columns are Main Category headings (Main Cat) with the following column being a subcategory headings (Sub Cat1) containing data below e.g.

Main Cat Sub Cat1 Sub Cat2 Sub Cat3
$3,200 $3,966 $0
$3,200 $3,966 $0
$3,200 $3,966 $0
$3,380 $4,076 $0
$3,380 $4,076 $0
$3,380 $4,076 $0
$3,380 $4,076 $0
$3,380 $4,076 $0
So I would like it to end up looking like

Main Cat Sub Cat1 Sub Cat1 Actual Sub Cat2 Sub Cat2 Actual
$3,200 $3,966
$3,200 $3,966
$3,200 $3,966
$3,380 $4,076
$3,380 $4,076
$3,380 $4,076
$3,380 $4,076
$3,380 $4,076

Any help would be appreciated.
Note: I could do a macro and individually add every specific column i wanted, but I'm sure you guru's out there could find a much quicker and neater way.
Thanks

"Note: I could do a macro and individually add every specific column i wanted, but I'm sure you guru's out there could find a much quicker and neater way."

Do you mean you want a way that doesn't involve VBA?

First, is this even doable? Column EK is already #141, you need to check that existing cols + new cols <=256.

(=COUNTIF(1:1,"Sub Cat*"))

Then, ASAP has an "Insert in-between empty (rows or) columns" function. You might be able to use that in conjunction with a couple of "Go To > Special" twists, but again it depends on how many columns you'll end up with.

More info please.

I have a Thunderbolt 3 Dock connected to an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen laptop and daily the dock will briefly disconnect from the laptop. So I've had this HP G62 Notebook for about 3 years. It was a gift from my mother who bought it off of a friend (a good one who had no use for it). For a while, it ran fine and I could definitely accept the fact that it wasn't that great of a PC and I had neglected to actually buy another battery for it despite the fact that it had no battery in the first place. Now, I'm getting off-topic; starting about 3 months ago, my PC began to randomly BSoD for apparently no discernible reason (occasionally it would overheat, but I don't know if that's the issue). It started off rather infrequently, like every couple of weeks, and now it just bluescreens on a daily basis. Anyway, it doesn't have a battery and I keep it on "life support" all the time even though it's a laptop. I'm okay with computers, but with the more technical stuff I find myself lost, so I really have no idea what's causing this, and I would really appreciate some help. I've included the .zip in this message. Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

1)I currently have an automated system that downloads three files into a location on a daily basis. These files are DTL00XXX.csv, FNL00XXX.csv and PTY00XXX.csv (the X's represent a number that increases sequentially with each daily file).

2)I then have to open Excel, covert the file to a normal .xls file and using an append query import the data into an Access table.

3)Finally I need to delete the xls files and move the .csv files to another folder for archiving. Every day I need to repeat this procedure which can be quite time consuming.

What I would like to do is to automate as much of the above processes as possible. The main stumbling block I have at the moment is trying to find a way to import files when the filename changes on a daily basis (See point one)

Does anyone know of any VBA code that I coudl use to do this? If I could import the .csv files directly that would negate the need to change them to xls before importing. Further more, and if it is possible, is there code that would be able to move these files to another location once they have been imported?

I would be very greatful for some help as it is extremely tedious and time consuming task to have to manually do each day.

Thanks,

J

Hi Rollin_Again and everyone in this forum,

Hoping someone could help me in my problem.
I have a workbook in Microsoft Excel 2010 (Windows) of about 60.000 rows of words in different languages.

Some words have 5 different languages and some are only 4 or 3, all are written in Column A of the workbook.

Column A
English -------(in color Orange)
Spanish -------(in color Red)
Italian ------- (in color Blue)
German ------ (in color Black)
Papiamento ---(in color Green)
etc.

What I want is a Macros Program that can put all Spanish words (red color) in Column B, all Italian words (blue color) in Column C, all German words (black color) in Column D, and all Papiamento words (green color) in Column E.

Like for example:

Column A --- Column B ---Column C --- Column D ---Column E
English -----Spanish ----Italian ----- German --- Papiamento
etc.

Thank you very much in advance and I'll appreciate all the helps you could give me.
