I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Hi, So I've owned this laptop for about 2 years.  About 1 month ago, the laptop had a corrupted BIOS that I was unable to restore, and the thread describing that in detail can be found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Laptop-BIOS-Corrupted-probably/m-p/5735383#M95... Since then, I have ordered a new motherboard and installed it in the computer. It started up and worked perfectly, but wouldn't recognize the battery and only operated when plugged in. So, I thought that I would update the BIOS to see if that would fix the battery issue. I downloaded the HP executable for the BIOS and ran it. Windows did some stuff (I forget the exact details), and then the computer rebooted. It displayed a simple blue box that said it was flashing the BIOS. I played a game on my other computer for ~30 minutes then came back to the laptop.  This time, there was a completely blank screen. I attempted to move the mouse, and do anything reasonably expected to wake the computer from sleep, because the power LED was still on.  I then pushed the power button until it shut off, and then tried to power it on. It resulted in the exact same symptoms as the thread I linked above. I have tried unplugging the computer (which removes all power because the battery won't work), using both key combinations to try to restore the BIOS from the original hard drive, and using both key combinations to try to restore the BIOS from a USB drive with a slightly olde... I have a Gateway 820GM pc and was having issues with IRQ conflicts. I was told that this is something that was fixed in the latest bios so I downloaded and ran them windows program that would automate the install of these bios.

Long story short the computer rebooted to install the bios and then hung on a black screen. After 30 minutes it was clear that something was wrong. I have verified that these are the correct bios for my motherboard and everything.

I was able to get the computer to boot to windows by holding down the insert key when the system is turning on however when I try to access the bios screen its all corrupt in there with a blue screen and unreadable text.

While i Know the easy answer is to trash the motherboard before I go spend $100 on a replacement I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as the computer does now boot to windows but I am concerned that there are still some problems that should be addressed with the Bios. Thanks.

A:Bios corrupted by bad bios install

Try resetting the CMOS (there's a jumper for that on the motherboard).

Boot using a DOS floppy or CD and re-flash the BIOS from there.

Hi everyone,

I have a HP Pavilion P6-2004nl with Windows 10 running on it.
A couple of days ago i started up my computer, after a long loading screen it gave me a "Corrupted file" message.
Restarted and i never came further than a black screen after the BIOS with a flickering underscore.

I have two HDD's:
Samsung SSD 120GB (Probably windows 10 is installed on this drive, because when i only plug this one it gives the flickering underscore)
SATA HDD 2GB (Gives me a no bootable device found message when i only plug this in)
Anyhow on both harddisks my bootable USB with the windows 10 files installed on it wont boot. And in the bios it shows my Sandisk USB in the plugged drives but not in the boot-menu.
I have Aptio 2.11.1210 BIOS with superlimited options and i have no idea how to boot the windows install disk from my BIOS.

I was shutting down my laptop to go to bed and it started installing updates, it was stuck on update 18 of 25 for over an hour and I really needed to sleep so I held the off button.
Now when I turn my laptop on it is just a black screen with the caps-lock key flashing (2 flashes) which research tells me means a BIOS problem...

the problem is that the solution method;

Turn off the computer.
Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter.
While the computer is still off:
Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold down the Power button on the notebook for one second.
Release the Power button and the keys.

Does nothing.
The laptop continues to turn on, make noise and have a black screen with the flashing caps-lock key...

What should I do?

Right, I have a huge technical problem, and desperately need some help. I sincerely hope that you guys are able to help me in some way.

Basically, I have an Acer T180-UB7Z here, and it was working fine, par the bad ram. All was fine, until I tried to update the BIOS. I downloaded the most recent bios update for that specific model, from Acer's website, so I know it wasn't a bad copy. I ran the updating tool within Windows, and tried to update. The update failed with an error saying something along the lines of 'could not erase - the hardware may be write protected'.

Thinking the bios was write protected, I assumed that the updater never changed it in some way, and so didn't think to revert to the backup I made. However, when I restarted the machine, it now fails to boot. The BIOS claims to be a 2007 version, which I downloaded, even though it supposedly never installed (it used to say it was 2006). It hangs at "Verifying DMI pool data". I googled the situation, and discovered that it is a fault with the motherboard, that the onboard bios flasher is faulty, and that everyone who has ever tried to update it has received the same problem, and there is virtually nothing that can be done within the machine to repair it.

The machine can not boot from CD, hard drive, removable devices etc, since Verifying pool data happens before this, and cannot be skipped. The bios settings can be accessed and changed, but I've read that no combination o... Read more

The will probably want the motherboard/computer model and

Be careful removing the old chip when the new one comes in.
Don't remove it till you get the new one.
It seems that computer uses a foxcon board and it looks like the chip is removable.
I got a chip from these people and they shipped it quick.
Only $10.
Make sure you disconnect the power cord from the computer and
discharge any static from your body before messing with the chip.
Usually, you can discharge the static by touching a metal part of
the case while it is still pluuged in,then remove the cord.

While my notebook G61-327 was updating MS windows 10 anniversary addition during the reboot my system went to "black screen" condition.  The system turns on and the fans are running but nothing is shown on the screen and no POST is performed. The blink codes show a corrupted bios.  I've done the obvious of taking out the CMOS battery and removing the primary battery and unplugging the machine from the wall outlet.  Pressing and holding the power button for minutes on end and then re-installing everything and turn on the machine but still get black screen.  I've attached an external monitor to it to see if it was the LCD but nothing happened.  I've tried holding the windows button and the B button to get to bios recovery but nothing.  I've downloaded the bios installation utility from HP for my model computer but it works only in a windows environment to update the bios and it doesn't give the option of creating a bootable USB drive to reinstall the bios firmware. What else is available before I have to get a new machine.  I really like this laptop and would like to keep it.

After downloading the BIOS for the target computer and executing the .exe file, the HP System BIOS Update Utility does not pop up and provides an error saying: Init CreateDriver Handle Fail This error belongs to InsydeFlash. When I try to turn on the computer, I get two long beeps and two short beeps. This is accompanied by two red blinks and two white blinks. This happens over and over again, but the boot doesn't go any further. The screen doesn't show anything at all, and the keyboard and mouse don't seem to get any power. However, the disk drive's led is on.  According to this https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107 the BIOS has become corrupted and there is no recovery.  I have tried downloading a BIOS and creating a USB recovery drive. I downloaded the newest bios, and then ran the executable in another computer. When prompted, I gave the installer the location of the USB drive. I then insert it in the bad computer and when I turn it on, I get exactly the same. It doesn't seem to be reading the USB at all.  Any help will be appreciated

Check the manufacturer's website. Some BIOSes have a failsafe feature that allows you to return the BIOS to factory code in the event of a failed update. What it's called will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but look for words like "failsafe" "bootblock" and such.

I do hope your board / BIOS supports that. Otherwise it's pretty much a paperweight.

Hi,
I'm using a HP Mini laptop with Windows 7. I updated BIOS using the HP Support Assistant. Then, I had to restart my laptop. While doing this, a message came saying that the updated BIOS is being installed but after that my laptop shut down by itself. It did NOT restart. When I turned the laptop on, a message came about a "BIOS checksum error" and then my laptop showed the 'welcome' screen like normal. When I researched about it, people said that when that error happens, it means my BIOS is corrupted.

But, I was able to use my laptop like normal and when I checked my system information, it showed the updated BIOS like this = System BIOS - F.14. AND, when I restarted my laptop, there was no error message or anything. It just started up like normal.

So, my question is - Is my BIOS corrupted?
Please answer, I'm REALLY worried. Thanks for your time.

I contacted Microsoft again, as I felt this was their fault and they would know the solution. They told me I needed to reinstall Windows and everything would be fine. I realized that there are a few BIOS updates, after my version (1.26) that seem to offer performance inmprovements. I probably need those, since my brother has a laptop with identical specs to mine, but his runs faster in games. I made sure I have proper drivers and all that stuff, but his is still faster. I also know that if a BIOS update fails, I'll have an expensive brick. I'd rather not have that, so before doing the update, I want to be sure I can recover my computer.

So here's my problem. I was recently upgrading my Dell Vostro 3350 bios (using the .exe file from the website) from A07 version to A10 version. Suddenly, *boom*. Power failure. And then, when I try to turn it on, nothing happens. Black screen. No bios. No boot. Just the lights and the fan come on. Shoot. I bricked it.

So, my question:

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

And don't say "Get a new motherboard! That'll fix it!"
Well duh! Problem is, I don't have any real, erm, how do you say- money.

Thanks!

A:Reflash a BIOS that has corrupted

Dell's do not have a BIOS recovery. The ONLY option is to replace the motherboard. Sorry.

However, one thing to try is to reset the CMOS memory (BIOS) by removing the CMOS "coin cell" backup battery for at least 10 minutes. No guarantee this will help but at this point the motherboard is trashed so anything is worth a try.

The Dell manual, available here, has instructions on removing the coin cell battery.

Hi everyone. I have a problem with my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-2110sm). Recently my laptop freezed and caps lock and num lock started blinking two times... This never happend before so I googled it. It seems that my BIOS is corrupted. I don't know much about computers so I searched what does "corrupted BIOS" mean. There were a lot of solutions and I tried most of them but none of them worked.

I tried the trick with holding the windows key and B and then power button but nothing happens. It restarts automatically and nothing happens. I tried pulling out RAM slots and returning them back but that didn't work either... So I'm out of options. Also I forgot to say that I can't work on my laptop because after I reboot, it freezes and I can't do anything. Caps and num lock just blink and I have to force shut down.

Another thing, sometimes blue screen of death appears and it looks like this:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Hi! So, my laptop won't boot at all right now. First though, the back-story. I purchased a Samsung 850 Evo SATA form factor SSD to replace the 1 TB HDD I had in my computer. Supposedly, I successfully cloned my Windows installation onto the SSD and was ready to switch out the drive. Long story short, winload.efi was non-functional on the SSD, so I couldn't boot from it (this caused the first appearance of my sad face). During this time, I switched the hard drives about 4 times so that I could get my laptop functional to look up how to fix my winload problem. I put my SSD in my computer (again), sealed up the case and booted it up. Windows attempted to load, told me that it couldn't, and offered to open up my UEFI/BIOS settings. So, I opened up the BIOS settings, and that is where my current issue began. Once in the BIOS settings, I hit escape so I could exit the settings and have my computer boot from a Windows 10 64-bit Recovery CD in order to restore my winload.efi. Well, I exited the BIOS at least. Immediately after exiting the UEFI firmware settings, the screen went black. I waited about 5 minutes, then decided to push and hold the power button to shut the computer off. It worked, and I attempted to power the computer back on. At this point, the power button's LED lit up, and the WiFi antenna LED turned red (see the images attached further down), but nothing happened. I have a power-on password configured for my computer, but it did not beep like it normally doe... Read more

A:Laptop BIOS Corrupted (probably)

@MajGenRelativit? Remove the MAIN battery. Then unplug the BIOS/RTC battery. With AC adaptor unplugged press and hold power button for about 10 seconds. Then connect AC adaptor and power-on the laptop with the BIOS/RTC battery still disconnected. Let us know what result is. REO

Hey folks, I have an A51 (R1) that I was updating the BIOS on so that I could install an updated video card, but I never got as far as the video card part. After attempting to update BIOS A03 to A06 (on the upgrade path to the latest A11), it would seem something terrible has occurred. When I rebooted after the A06 update, the A51 fails to even load the BIOS screen. Instead it just lets out a continuous peal of slow beeps. I can't get it to load from a bootable USB disk either (I don't think it gets that far). Are there any tips to bring it back from the dead? Or did the upgrade fry it beyond repair?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! First time that I write here so I gotta say this first: I'm so sorry for my bad english, but...I'm italian, so don't put too much blame on me! :vOk, let's go straight to the point...A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion dv6-3100 that won't start: fan runs and lights come on, but nothing more...Dear old "black screen of death", even on external monitors. For what I can presume by the 2 blinks of the CAPS LOCK light it should be a BIOS issue.I've tried a lot of "fix tips":- Power button pushed for "more than a minute" without battery and AC connector- Changed and moved RAM cards from one slot to the other- "Power button + ESC" (I don't know why, but someone out there said that it worked)- Leaved the pc turned on for an hour or more without the battery, to (as someone said) "recharge BIOS battery"- ...almost every "fix tip" on the webIf I remember correctly my friend said that it all started from a flashing attempt went wrong, so finally I tried to "reflash" the BIOS.This pc came to me without his HDD (actually without even the SATA cable that connects the HDD to the motherboard), so I tried to make an "HP-TOOLS" USB using two other computers (not HP) following the HP Service instructions, but it always end up with these 2 errors:- IHISI: Get support mode fail in SMI!- BIOS did not support InsydeFlash!I've already googled it, but I didn't really understood what to do...So, the final question is:How can I restore my BIOS?   Thanks in advance for your ... I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard.

During Bios update, the electrical power went out due to reasons unrelated to the computer.

Since the bios update was in progress, it ended up corrupted. Now the system does not even give signs of boot up.

I went back and forth with the manufacturer about getting a new bios but i could not get it replaced b4 warranty expired.

where can i purchased this bios and where is it in this spicific motherboard?

Maybe some of you know how to get around this without replacing Bios chip. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My OS is Windows XP and I am using A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard. I made some changes to BIOS configuration and screwed up the BIOS configuration. As it was taking 15 to 20 minutes to boot up or to come out from sleep mode I reformatted the hard-drive expecting that I will end up with a new BIOS file with the original default configuration. But it looks I got the same corrupted BIOS configuration and every time when I boot the computer it comes out with a message with 4 options to start the Windows: 1. Safe Mode 2. Safe Mode with Networking 3. Safe Mode with command prompt and 4. Start Windows normally. BUT choosing any one of these does not boot the computer instead of that I keep getting the same message. Even the Safe Mode does not respond. After pressing anyone of these options 10 to 15 times all of a sudden I will get the MS welcome screen and then I can do all my work including surfing the net BUT if I shut it down or put it to sleep mode I get the same error message with the above mentioned 4 options which does not work.
Is there a way to clean up the BIOS file and install the correct version? I got the instruction from ASUS how to download the latest version and copy it to the Startup (Floppy) Disk. At the A:\> prompt when I type the file name as shown in the manual / download instruction it says invalid parameters.
Any suggestion to clean the BIOS file will be appreciated.

Hello folks,I have an acer m2631  with:MB: H81H3-AM ;chipset: AMI Aptio DT2006-DN13;CPU: Intel i3-4130;integrated VGA.After trying to copy my HDD to an SSD, the PC didn't start anymore. In particular, the PC hangs up during POST to ACER logo with this words : "Press Del to Enter Setup".The great thing is that I cannot enter the bios and therefore cannot longer change any options.I have already tried to: 1) reset via jumper or by removing the battery; 2) disconnected each device (including HDD), download the BIOS from ACER, renaming the ROM file in AMIBOOT.ROM, created a USB formatted with "HP utility tools", added the file and tried to start the PC with CTRL + HOME (HOME only too) 3) download the BIOS from ACER renaming the ROM file in AMIBOOT.ROM , created a CD with this file and tried to start the PC with CTRL + HOME (HOME only too) 4) adding a graphics card and tried as in steps 2 and 3None of the solutions seems to workCan you help me before throw the MB to the nettles?thank you in advance

Hi. I had some problems with this notebook not turning on correctly after each shut down. It would hang with artifacts at Windows startup. After a restart it would be ok and would not do the same until a shut down or sleep event occurred. This made me think that it could be something wrong with the BIOS not waking up something correctly.I had the latest V20 BIOS already on the notebook, so I tried to flash older versions with each of them failing (now I realise that it says next to V20 on the download page that you can no longer downgrade after you install it, so that was the reason) and one of them actually corrupted the BIOS, although it said it could not flash it.After that fail, when I turn on the laptop I get a black screen, fan working, and Caps Lock flashing 1 on 1 off indefinitely without beep codes. Now I'm trying to enter Crisis Mode by pressing Win+B and Power at startup, bun nothing happens, it starts normally and Caps Lock intermittent flashing continues. No matter what I do, it does not seem to search for a BIOS on the USB drive that I plug in.Does anyone know how to unbrick this notebook model? It's such a shame, because it's in an immaculate shape. Thank you all!

when i first turned on my computer i got a blue screen message saying that BIOS is corrupted and now is updating. Then the computer restarts and a flashing dash come up on a black screen and nothing else happens.

Whenever I restarts the computer the same process happens.

Anyone can suggest any fixes or causes???

A:BIOS corrupted + Flashing dash

Maybe clearing the BIOS could help. Look at the motherboard menu, there should be a jumper which you can set to clear the BIOS.

If you can still enter the BIOS by pressing a certain key on startup, then you can choose Load BIOS defaults or some similar setting.

Hi, I recently performed a BIOS update on my HP Envy 15. It powered down, then showed a screen that read "Flashing Boot Block... X% complete". After that, it powered off and then on a few times. Now, when I turn it on, the caps lock light blinks twice, meaning the BIOS was corrupted. Can someone please help? It would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.  I called HP and they said it's not compatible, which caused the Bios to be corrupted.  I don't know what to do next and I don't want to pay $59 to fix.  The automatic repair doesn't work and this is what shows up when I try to run it: c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt
