Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

Q: Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

I have had Windows Live Messenger installed for a long time and I used to use it a lot, but not so much recently. Tonight I opened it up to try to contact someone and it opened fine, but the window included a message telling me that there was a newer version available and asked if I wanted to get the newer version. I clicked "yes" and an installation process began. I had a choice of things to install, but the only item I selected was Windows Live messenger. The process seemed to take longer than what I would have expected, but I patiently waited until it reached 100% installed. Unfortunately a message appeared telling me that it could not install Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Toolbar (which I had not asked for) and the installation was aborted. It gave an error number 0x80004004 for the Windows Live Messenger and for the Windows Live Toolbar it said it was unable to uninstall an older version of Windows Live Toolbar.

So I figured I would just keep using the version that I had, only that version no longer works. When I click on the icon for Windows Live Messenger I get a message saying that it cannot locate Windows Live Messeger.lnk.

So I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and tried to remove Windows Live Toolbar, but there I got a message saying that it could not find WLToolbar.msi. I then did a "Search" of my hard drive and the search results came up with nothing.

So then I went to www.microsoft.com, searched for Windows Live Messenger, and followed their instructions to download and install it. The same thing happened, i.e. the installation process appeared to be working right up until 100% and then I got the same message about the installation being aborted.

So my question is this, how can I get a working version of Windows Live Messenger back up and running on my computer? I am using Windows XP, SP3.

Thanks for any help that you can give.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I found an answer on another forum. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded a program named msicuu2.exe. When you install and run it, it displays a list of programs that have been successfully or unsuccessfully installed by a microsoft install program. You can then select one/all of those programs to remove. Although (at least in my case), it didn't really remove the software, it removed whatever it was that was keeping me from being able to install Windows Live Messenger. Everything is working fine now!

Hey everyone

I've been having some major problems with Windows Live recently. I did a system restore that went a few months back and ever since then it hasn't been working. When I tried to open it it said that "the applicaton has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. C:/Program Files/Windows Live/ Messenger/ msnmsgr.exe" . I uninstalled, re-installed, repaired, and basically everything various internet sites told me to do and yet it still occurs. Please, if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time!

I installed Windows Live Messenger (2009) & selected only the messenger during install. Now every time my computer boots up there is a folder on my desk: Search Enhancement Pack within it there is another folder: Choice Guard. I've Googled this & it seems a lot of people have this same problem. But I couldn't find a solution for getting rid of it. Please help, how do I get rid of this folder & stop it from popping up?

A:Solved: problem with Windows Live Messenger

I think I solved it. I went to my programs folder, deleted the folder titled Microsoft which contained only one file, the Enhancements. I placed it my recycle bin as a security measure then shut off my system. It didn't pop up at start up, so then I tried my Live Messenger. First try I got a message that said it couldn't connect, but I believe it was just a glitch. Second & third attempt all went well. Now I can toss it from the recycle bin.

I have an HP computer with Windows 7.

Whenever I turn on the computer, I get a message that reads "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working," then gives me 2 choices - close the program or check online for a solution then close the program. I don't use the program (but I do use Windows Live Mail) so I just close the program. Is there way I can remove this program (while keeping Windows Live Mail) so it does not continue to bother me?

I am trying to use Windows Live Messenger to communicate with my daughters. We are all running computers using either Windows XP or Vista. We can get connected and can display the video of each other but have no audio. Is there something we have to do special to have audio? We have webcams with built in microphone or laptops with built in webcams with microphones.
Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Windows live messenger problem

First thing I would do is check to make sure you're making a Video Call and not just sending webcam invitations.

Regular webcam invites only do video but if you start a video call, it should include audio.

I am using the latest version of windows live messenger. When i sign in, the status shows i am away when i havent chenged it. When i manually try changing it to available, it doesnt change. This is weird, please help.

A:Solved: Weird windows live messenger problem

By default, Live Messenger will show you as away after a time of not using your keyboard or mouse, or running a program in full-screen. It should show you as available the minute you touch the mouse or keyboard, or exit the full-screen program (the little icon in the tray should turn from yellow to green).

If it doesn't work, try uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling Windows Live Messenger from Microsoft's website.

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

Sorry this might be a dumb question, but will my computer be ok if I opened live messenger and sent a few messges while windows update was being installed on full load on my HDD? I'm kinda worried it would cause some bugs or errors since there was lag when I was typing, opening windows etc wtih live messenger.

A:Using live messenger during windows update installation

Just personal opinion, and others may disagree. I prefer to let Windows Update and other "critical" operations like system images, creation of restore points, etc not have anything else going on in the background. Whenever system files are being accessed, read, or written to, I'd rather have all of my computer's resources concentrating on just that one task. But that's just me.

Everytime I download Windows Live Messenger and try to sign in I get the error code: 80004005

I've tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it and it still doesn't solve the problem. I also used the instructions that msn messenger provided to fix the error code problem, and that didn't work either. I've heard that many of my friends have been getting the same problem for no reason whatsoever, so I guess I'm not alone. But the weird thing is, my brother can sign into his messenger live account on the same computer, and so can my other brother..but my account just won't sign in(I really don't think I should get a new account though, cause my friend tried that and she still couldn't sign in). No matter how long I leave it installed, everytime I try to sign in the same error code shows up. When I use messenger 7.5, I can always log in with no problems.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

First off sorry for wrong section, really had no clue where to make this thread.

Ok i use to have xp and it had the same problem on there to, now i have win7 and it still has the same problem.

What the problem is : well my Windows live messenger is updated to the most recent one. (version 2009 (build 13.0.8089.726) Sometimes when im chatting to people they don't get the message that i send. for example after like 1 hour of chatting. " wanna play a game now?" then about 10 mins later i say "well" and he says he didn't receive my message. Been happing to all my friends that i chat and i don't get this as well when he didn't get the msg " message could not be delivered" which is a good thing because we all hate that lol.

What ive tried to solve it.:
Scanned computer and its clean also it should be clean because i installed a full install of windows 7 which completely format my comp.

I've tried installed and downloaded a new wlm and installed it.

So the main problem is that my contacts arnt getting my message sometimes. Something to do with my router?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.
I have a weird problem with msn where my status is changed from online, away, or busy to offline when I get an email.
So if I'm appearing online for example and then get an email, I get changed to appear offline.
I don't get signed out and the application doesn't close or anything like that.
I wouldn't normally consider this a problem, it's just that I use the video chat thing alot and if you change your status to appear offline it makes the cam go off and this just makes it a hassle having to restart the webcam conversation each time you get an email.
Any help is appreciated.

When I opened the pc, I opened MSN and clicked "Sign In" but in less than a second I got the same window of again ( the one you get when you run MSN ).

What can I do?

I might have to unistall it and install it again.
I also have installed Windows Mail ( the one that comes with the messenger) and MSN Plus.
My version of MSN is the latest.

If I have to unistall what are the exact steps to do so that I won't lose any content, such as contacts, received files, saved conversations and all the emails?
Generally. If I unistall it, is there any chance that it will delete any content I need?
I have Windows XP Professional Sp3.

Thank you for your time!

I have had this problem for 2 weeks now-My messenger doesn't seem to sign in my id and it keeps giving errors. My id works on my laptop and my email is fine.

Another I get is:

Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

i was having some trouble with my norton security, so i am trying some new things, which resulted in me disabling my norton security. now i am unable to log into my windows live messenger. the following screen appears when i try to 'repair' it...

Is it solved when you re-enable Norton? You don't want to be connected to the net for too long without a firewall...though I'm not sure that Norton makes much difference anyway :)

A couple of days ago my Windows Live Messenger stopped working. THe message comes up saying "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working" something about an APPCRASH? I looked around and it said I need to remove a file from my registry. I did that, it worked for a day, now it doesn't work again. Can anyone help me fix this? Thanks.

A:Problem with Windows Live Messenger

Can you just try and reinstall it?
Message & Chat Online | Download Windows Live Messenger

Just remove it from the Programs and then go to the above link. This way would be the easiest to do. This will tell you if it is a corrupt file, or another problem with your system.

My daughter received an IM from a friend and it was a website which she clicked on. In turn people have been getting this IM from my daughter now and she has no control over it. We were wondering what needs to be done so these people quit getting this IM from her. The steps that happen are: 1. It will show that my daughter "Becky" has signed in on her computer (which she hasn't) then shortly after there will be an IM on the bottom of the screen that says Becky conversation. When you click on it the IM is a website. Becky's grandmother gets 3-4 of these from Becky a day. We have tried taking Windows live off our computer but the grandmother and other people still get the IM messages. Do we have those people block my daughter? And if they do, when they unblock her after awhile will these start up again? They are just ignoring the IM messages but it gets very annoying.

A:Windows Live Messenger problem

this is a common problem whilst using msn. it's a virus that works in a similar fashion to those annoying chain mails. once the link is opens it uploads itself and then sends itself automatically to everyone on your contact list.

Try running antivirus/spyware software to see if it can be removed that way.

a friend is having problems with her msn, when I send her links, it opens in the same browser window as the page she's viewing, instead of opening in a new one.

she's using windows live messenger and IE6.
is there anything in IE or MSN that can be done to force links to open in new windows?

I've had a look through the options section in both IE and WLM and can't find anything that could be a potential fix

any help would be appreciated

Hi Cerberus and welcome to TSF !

In IE, go to tools => internet options => advanced and untick "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" under browsing.
