Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

Q: Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

I have had Windows Live Messenger installed for a long time and I used to use it a lot, but not so much recently. Tonight I opened it up to try to contact someone and it opened fine, but the window included a message telling me that there was a newer version available and asked if I wanted to get the newer version. I clicked "yes" and an installation process began. I had a choice of things to install, but the only item I selected was Windows Live messenger. The process seemed to take longer than what I would have expected, but I patiently waited until it reached 100% installed. Unfortunately a message appeared telling me that it could not install Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Toolbar (which I had not asked for) and the installation was aborted. It gave an error number 0x80004004 for the Windows Live Messenger and for the Windows Live Toolbar it said it was unable to uninstall an older version of Windows Live Toolbar.

So I figured I would just keep using the version that I had, only that version no longer works. When I click on the icon for Windows Live Messenger I get a message saying that it cannot locate Windows Live Messeger.lnk.

So I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and tried to remove Windows Live Toolbar, but there I got a message saying that it could not find WLToolbar.msi. I then did a "Search" of my hard drive and the search results came up with nothing.

So then I went to www.microsoft.com, searched for Windows Live Messenger, and followed their instructions to download and install it. The same thing happened, i.e. the installation process appeared to be working right up until 100% and then I got the same message about the installation being aborted.

So my question is this, how can I get a working version of Windows Live Messenger back up and running on my computer? I am using Windows XP, SP3.

Thanks for any help that you can give.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

I found an answer on another forum. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded a program named msicuu2.exe. When you install and run it, it displays a list of programs that have been successfully or unsuccessfully installed by a microsoft install program. You can then select one/all of those programs to remove. Although (at least in my case), it didn't really remove the software, it removed whatever it was that was keeping me from being able to install Windows Live Messenger. Everything is working fine now!

I installed Windows Live Messenger (2009) & selected only the messenger during install. Now every time my computer boots up there is a folder on my desk: Search Enhancement Pack within it there is another folder: Choice Guard. I've Googled this & it seems a lot of people have this same problem. But I couldn't find a solution for getting rid of it. Please help, how do I get rid of this folder & stop it from popping up?

A:Solved: problem with Windows Live Messenger

I think I solved it. I went to my programs folder, deleted the folder titled Microsoft which contained only one file, the Enhancements. I placed it my recycle bin as a security measure then shut off my system. It didn't pop up at start up, so then I tried my Live Messenger. First try I got a message that said it couldn't connect, but I believe it was just a glitch. Second & third attempt all went well. Now I can toss it from the recycle bin.

Hey everyone

I've been having some major problems with Windows Live recently. I did a system restore that went a few months back and ever since then it hasn't been working. When I tried to open it it said that "the applicaton has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. C:/Program Files/Windows Live/ Messenger/ msnmsgr.exe" . I uninstalled, re-installed, repaired, and basically everything various internet sites told me to do and yet it still occurs. Please, if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time!

I have an HP computer with Windows 7.

Whenever I turn on the computer, I get a message that reads "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working," then gives me 2 choices - close the program or check online for a solution then close the program. I don't use the program (but I do use Windows Live Mail) so I just close the program. Is there way I can remove this program (while keeping Windows Live Mail) so it does not continue to bother me?

I am trying to use Windows Live Messenger to communicate with my daughters. We are all running computers using either Windows XP or Vista. We can get connected and can display the video of each other but have no audio. Is there something we have to do special to have audio? We have webcams with built in microphone or laptops with built in webcams with microphones.
Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Windows live messenger problem

First thing I would do is check to make sure you're making a Video Call and not just sending webcam invitations.

Regular webcam invites only do video but if you start a video call, it should include audio.

I am using the latest version of windows live messenger. When i sign in, the status shows i am away when i havent chenged it. When i manually try changing it to available, it doesnt change. This is weird, please help.

A:Solved: Weird windows live messenger problem

By default, Live Messenger will show you as away after a time of not using your keyboard or mouse, or running a program in full-screen. It should show you as available the minute you touch the mouse or keyboard, or exit the full-screen program (the little icon in the tray should turn from yellow to green).

If it doesn't work, try uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling Windows Live Messenger from Microsoft's website.

Sorry this might be a dumb question, but will my computer be ok if I opened live messenger and sent a few messges while windows update was being installed on full load on my HDD? I'm kinda worried it would cause some bugs or errors since there was lag when I was typing, opening windows etc wtih live messenger.

A:Using live messenger during windows update installation

Just personal opinion, and others may disagree. I prefer to let Windows Update and other "critical" operations like system images, creation of restore points, etc not have anything else going on in the background. Whenever system files are being accessed, read, or written to, I'd rather have all of my computer's resources concentrating on just that one task. But that's just me.

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

Any and all help appreciated.

Everytime I download Windows Live Messenger and try to sign in I get the error code: 80004005

I've tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it and it still doesn't solve the problem. I also used the instructions that msn messenger provided to fix the error code problem, and that didn't work either. I've heard that many of my friends have been getting the same problem for no reason whatsoever, so I guess I'm not alone. But the weird thing is, my brother can sign into his messenger live account on the same computer, and so can my other brother..but my account just won't sign in(I really don't think I should get a new account though, cause my friend tried that and she still couldn't sign in). No matter how long I leave it installed, everytime I try to sign in the same error code shows up. When I use messenger 7.5, I can always log in with no problems.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

I tried to reinstall it, system restore to previous days, restart computer and try again, but it did not work.
When windows restarts and everything loads (msn on startup with windows) when the internet connects msn freezes and never unfreezes; forces me to force exit msn.
WHen i take msn off the startup and load it by myself after everything has loaded (internet, anti virus) it does not show up, but is in process tray.

My daughter received an IM from a friend and it was a website which she clicked on. In turn people have been getting this IM from my daughter now and she has no control over it. We were wondering what needs to be done so these people quit getting this IM from her. The steps that happen are: 1. It will show that my daughter "Becky" has signed in on her computer (which she hasn't) then shortly after there will be an IM on the bottom of the screen that says Becky conversation. When you click on it the IM is a website. Becky's grandmother gets 3-4 of these from Becky a day. We have tried taking Windows live off our computer but the grandmother and other people still get the IM messages. Do we have those people block my daughter? And if they do, when they unblock her after awhile will these start up again? They are just ignoring the IM messages but it gets very annoying.

A:Windows Live Messenger problem

this is a common problem whilst using msn. it's a virus that works in a similar fashion to those annoying chain mails. once the link is opens it uploads itself and then sends itself automatically to everyone on your contact list.

Try running antivirus/spyware software to see if it can be removed that way.

Hello all!
Yesterday, I was chatting at MSN, watching a movie and tried to connect my mobile to the PC via USB when I got a BSOD.

When I opened the pc, I opened MSN and clicked "Sign In" but in less than a second I got the same window of again ( the one you get when you run MSN ).

What can I do?

I might have to unistall it and install it again.
I also have installed Windows Mail ( the one that comes with the messenger) and MSN Plus.
My version of MSN is the latest.

If I have to unistall what are the exact steps to do so that I won't lose any content, such as contacts, received files, saved conversations and all the emails?
Generally. If I unistall it, is there any chance that it will delete any content I need?
I have Windows XP Professional Sp3.

I wouldn't normally consider this a problem, it's just that I use the video chat thing alot and if you change your status to appear offline it makes the cam go off and this just makes it a hassle having to restart the webcam conversation each time you get an email.
Any help is appreciated.

Are you running Live 2011?

Check Windows Updates - www.update.microsoft.com

Or download Live 2011 directly - http://explore.live.com/windows-live...tials?os=other

Hey there. I have a bit of a complicated problem. I used to have Windows Live Messenger 14.0.xxxx (unknown build) and I could videochat with my friend who uses the old 8.5 version of WLM.

However yesterday I installed the new 2011 version of WLM, which I did not like. So I wen't to download WLM 2009 (version 14) again, BUT the builds that I've downloaded doesn't allow me to videochat with my friend with the 8.5 version.

To make the problem even worse, when I try to run wlsetup-custom.exe I get THIS error. The only thing that works to install is wlsetup-ALL.exe, BUT I can't find the right build. I've tried both 14.0.8089 and 14.0.8117, but none of them is the right build.

So I need wlsetup-all.exe for version 14, but NOT those 2 builds (might be more that doesn't work)
OR a way to fix the oncatalogresult 0x80072ee6 error.

I hope you understand what I'm writing, english is not my main language and the problem is a bit complicated as stated earlier.

Do a system restore , that is the easiest option I would say

Start> run> msconfig
Click on Launch system restore. bottom of that page
Choose a date in bold eg yesterday before you downloaded the new messenger
then follow the prompts
hope this helps

You may or may not be aware of a new update for Windows Live Messenger. Ever since I accepted the forced update (it was compulsory) I have been unable to log in. I keep getting the following error:-

Error 80072efd: You cannot sign in to Windows Live Messenger

You may not be able to sign in because of problems with your firewall(A security feature designed to help protect a computer from unauthorized external access. It can be hardware, software, or both.) or proxy settings. Visit another website to confirm that you're connected to the Internet. If you are connected, check your firewall settings and adjust your proxy settings:

Also, since the update (which originally ran automatically) I have been unable to use the Windows Live installer to try again. I keep getting this message:-

Check to be sure you are connected to the internet.
Error: OnCatalogResult: 0x8104000b

I have checked my windows firewall and and it allows Windows Live Media and I AM connected to the internet. I use firefox and am browsing sites as normal. Windows Internet Explorer 8 doesn't seem to be bringing up any web pages though. I updated from Explorer 7 to 8, but even 7 wasn't displaying web pages. Does this have anything to do with it? Also, when I get the option to 'troubleshoot' the problem on WLM I am presented with the following:-

If anyone can help I would be grateful. I never thought something as simple as an msn update (forced or not) would cause such both... Read more
