Replacement HDD for Tecra M10-10W

Q: Replacement HDD for Tecra M10-10W

Hi. I've got a failing hard disk in my Tecra, the existing disk is a Fujitsu MHZ2120BH G1. In an ideal world I would swap this disk for a solid state but I'm wary having read of others' problems installing SSDs. Has anyone any experience of successfully (or otherwise!) of doing this. Alternatively, I'm quite content to stick with a HDD but I wonder whether I can increase the size of the disk from the existing 120Gb? I've got some vague memory of having read about a limit on the size this laptop will take. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everybody.
My (Nick) Name is Marsu, I'm from Germany and I want replace a *dead* mainboard with P/N P000456600 (NV GF6200TE 64GB Tecra M4 PTM40E)
I figured out, that there are a lot of different boards with the same layout, but different p/n's around the world...

Here is my (little confused) question:
Is it possible to replace the board with maybe P000435380 or P000456590 without problems?
The mainboards seems to have exactly the same layout and chipsets, as I could see on some pictures...

There is a good offer in eb*y for the P000435380 and I don't want to throw that really nice but old one away... ;)

I have asked "Uncle google" and some sellers, but nobody knows...

Then I have found this forum here and it is my last hope :D

Would be fine if somebody can give me a helping hand with this dilemma...

Thanks in advance and a nice weekend

Marsu

A:Tecra M4 - Mainboard replacement

> I have asked "Uncle google" and some sellers, but nobody knows...
I believe this. It is not easy to get such info. Who knows how it works and what can be done is Toshiba service provider. They have access to Toshiba?s database and know which parts can be used with certain notebook models.

What I know is that Tecra M4 was offered with two platforms. One with part number PTM40E and other with number PTM42E but there is no big difference so I think if you buy mainboard for M4 it should be the right one. You are from Germany so order part offered for European model and I think you cannot do something wrong.

Of course it is just my personal opinion.

Hi,

I've got "new-old" computer at work and I want to increase perfomance of z50 so I wanted to change HDD for SSHD or SSD (i got both of them). But i have big trouble with booting OS on both of them. User before me used Bitlocker function.

Completely new system on HDD is working fine. The problem is when i switch orginal HDD with any other disk. I am installing WIN 10 PRO on new SSHD and it everything as usual to the moment when computer restarts after complete installation. Z50 after restart is not able to boot itself with new disk and it shows " Insert system disk in drive ..." I've tried everything i found and still didn't manage to run OS on new SSHD.

Maybe someone has any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Hi All,

I've just received a new Z50-C-12F and wanted to replace the 256GB SSD with a bigger one (Samsung M.2 950 Pro 512GB)

Unfortunately, the new SSD is not detected at boot, but I can't understand why.
The original SSD is a Samsung MZ-NTY2560 (B&M key) the new one is an M Key, but so is the connector in the laptop.

I have tried setting the UEFI to CSM (default is UEFI (Legacy)) in the BIOS but even booting from a Parted Magic DVD shows no sign of the new SSD.

Hey, anybody do this before? I'm trying to take out the cd/dvd drive of a Toshiba Tecra A8, and after a pretty thorough web search (and searching these forums), I have a pile of little screws on my desk, and think there must be a simpler way than to take the whole thing apart...
Halp?

ha, nevermind. got it.
2 screws hold it in place: one on the underside of the laptop, and one underneath the keyboard (this one is the same screw that holds in place the little metal plate covering the keyboard's connection to the board).

I?m sorry for my no good English.

I?ve a problem: my pc Tecra S11-128 is dead.

When the power is connected, the power led is light. When I press the power button, there is no response. Nothing. Dead.

I tried to get it repaired at a technical center, but they said they cannot fix it.

On eBay, I found this motherboard: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Toshiba-Tecra-S11-168-Motherboard-Mainboard-fuer-i5-/141290303681?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:DE:1123

Is it possible to change the my Tecra S11-128 with Tecra S11-168? Are they compatible?

Thank you.

As far as I know RJ45 port is soldered on the mainboard. So you must disassemble whole notebook, remove the port, find new one and solder it on the right place.

What to do? Please help.

A:Tecra S11 - After HDD replacement I can't update BIOS

> Error: Preparing to update was failed.
> You have not given permission to execute the update.

Do you have Admin rights?
Sounds like the issue could be related to missing privileges which are needed to run a update.

You could enable the admin account following these steps:
Choose command prompt (the black box cmd)
In the box type net user administrator /active:yes
Then log out. Usually an additional user account should be visible ?Administrator?.

Now log in using this account and try to execute the BIOS update.

Note: in many cases the VAP (value added package) is needed to run the update BIOS.
Be sure also, that package has been unzipped correctly before running the exe file.

Hi,

A friend asked me to fix her keyboard so we bought a new one from eBay and swapped it over. The new one is US-type and doesn't have the cursor-nub/trackpoint (whatever you'd call it) in the middle, and so only 1 ribbon connector on the back. I'm 100% sure I've connected it properly, I've checked and double-checked.
Mostly it works fine, but then some keys have stopped working like backspace and enter, which is big deal.
I've tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting. I've tried changing the keyboard type in the language settings in control panel.

No matter what we try, we can't get this keyboard with all keys functioning!
Is there some setting I have overlooked that need changing?
Any help at all would be very appreciated, thanks!

A:Re: Tecra A7 - keyboard replacement issue

It is not easy to discuss about this issue if you don?t use 100% the same and original keyboard.
Keyboard uses standard Microsoft driver so I don?t know which driver you can change to check keyboard functionality.

Is so problematic to find original and the same keyboard as original one? On eBay you can find everything.

So I am over at my sister's place Friday night and she asked me if I would like a laptop. I said sure, let me take a look. It is an old Toshiba Tecra S1 that she got from work and it is actually in decent shape and solidly built. I have fiddled around with it for 2 days and suprisingly it is very stable.

It has the latest BIOS (from 2005) and I was able to upgrade the Intel wireless driver that was dated from 2006. All USB ports are working (unfortunately no S-Video or Firewire). It has Windows XP Pro and I was able to install SP2 without a hitch. The cpu is a 1.4 GHz Pentium M. It also has a DVDE/CD-RW drive.

The only thing that I see as a drawback (besides old tech) is that the harddrive is a mere 40 GBs. I know very little about laptop hardware except the basics so can anyone suggest what harddrive I should consider as a possible upgrade? I have done research but as I said I am pretty much a noob concerning laptop hardware especially older offerings.

Thanks.

I've replaced a few Laptop HDD's so I know a bit about them and I'm on a Laptop now so I can help with this. If it is IDE I can't see any on Newegg.

In essence it is basically the same as a Desktop HDD. My Laptop used to have a 40Gb HDD I upgraded mine to 120Gb but mine was SATA and is only 2 years old Next Month since its Manufacturing.

A:Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:

(Just posting this here so people in the future can find it.) I replaced my motherboard and just wanted to leave this here for future reference to some poor soul who has to do the same.
If you replace the motherboard on your Dell Studio XPS 8000, (service tag 3L8DHK1) and you need a new motherboard you can use an INTEL DQ57TM, it's compatible and I did a successful transplant. Your processor is an INTEL Core-i5 750 CPU 2.67GHZ it uses a SOCKET LGA1156. It uses DDR3 memory.
Once you take out your old motherboard and disconnect all those usb and audio wires and the power button wires. To hook up your USB front jacks, audio jacks etc.... here's which blocks go where:
Wires from the audio jacks and usb ports go into these colored block connectors, and those connectors get plugged into those little rows of pins/jumpers called Internal Headers. Every motherboard manual tells you about them. Grab the manual for your new motherboard and it'll tell you where your audio1, usb1, usb2, usb3, usb4 Header connectors are they look like 2 rows and 5 collumns of short little pins. (They almost always have 1 or 2 pins missing on purpose.)
the wires leading to a YELLOW BLOCK gets plugged into the audio1 header on your new motherboard, it's for audio jacks on top of the computer
wires with the WHITE BLOCK gets plugged into the usb3 headers on your motherboard (they are for the usb jacks on the very top of the computer tower)
wires with the GREEN BLOCK gets plugged into ... Read more

Hi,

I'm trying one of this popular caddy's that allows me to put a second hard drive in the optical slot bay, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter besides connecting properly:

[http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub =2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with Toshiba BIOS that is expecting a ODD device in that Sata port and cames out with a "CD-ROM error", disabling the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, after BIOS post with anything in ODD bay, after starting Windows, I insert the second HDD in the ODD bay, go to "Windows Device Manager" do a "Check for hardware changes" and voil?, the second HDD is working fine, to me this proves a BIOS limitation.

Is there any help, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the last BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

This old Tecra was delivered with several HDDs (from 60 up to 120GB). God thing is that this Tecra uses SATA HDDs so; generally speaking HDD upgrade should not be problematic.

Which HDD can you use? In my opinion HDD with around 300GB should be enough for this old piece of hardware. Just buy SATA 2,5? HDD. Talk with your local dealer and buy high quality product.

HDD replacement is not complicated and you can do it alone. If you need some help you are welcome.

Hi,

Do you think it's possible.
Will I have some drivers dysfonction?

Thanks for answer !!

A:Tecra A11 - Win XP and Win 98 multiboot

Well, Win XP installation should not be a big problem because the Win XP drivers seem to be available on Toshiba European driver page.

But Win 98 might be a problem here since its not supported and the drivers are not available? you will need to search for such drivers at your hand and I think this might be a painful time? I doubt you will be able to get Win 98 drivers because this OS is really, really old.

I would recommend installing the Win 98 only using Virtual Machine (VM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine
or Virtual PC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC

This is very easy? running Win XP you can open virtual PC or VM and could start the Win 98

Hello,

I'm ready to buy a new one, but, obviously I want to be 100% sure the SSD is compatible this time.

How can I find a list of compatible devices for this laptop ?

As a SATA 1 laptop, I know the performance will be restrained, but I don't care too much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

A:Compatible SSD for Tecra A8-133

Hi

What?s wrong exactly?

I found some specification of the mentioned SSD drive from Corsair and it looks like the SSD drive is designed to support the latest high-speed standard SATA III (6Gb/s).
But it?s seems to be fully backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I. So it should be compatible?

From my knowledge there are no any special info regarding the SDD dive compatibility.
In some cases the SSD drive manufacturers provides an SSD drive firmware updates and sometimes such update helps to sort out some issues.

The only thing happens , is that I see the upstartscreen (in touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA) and icons at the underside of the screen indicating the drives. Then nothing happens any more, it doe not start up.

I can by entering F12 in a new startup procedure change to startup via CD rom, but this also has no effect.

Also it is not possible to enter the bios (esc + F1).

The keyboard is functioning because, after a while every touch result is a short " beep" .

I have removed the battery for a while and tried again with no result.

Hi All,

I have a Tecra P4 - PTS40A-02100V which will not recognise the new Hitachi 80GB disk (HTS541080G9SA00). The laptop is out of warranty and replacement disk was purchased. This is the second new disk the supplier has sent me. The supplier is an official Toshiba supplier in Australia. Customer has paid ~$400AUD for the disk, so this could be an expensive exercise.

I am able to get a vanilla Toshiba Restore to work on the PC, however our organisation uses a WinPE based PXE boot environment to kick off image and build of Windows XP. Using a generic Windows XP in our environment is not possible.

Diskpart in WinPE will not recognise the disk. Partition Magic and other popular apps will recognise the disk, others won't. I can create an NTFS partition and format. Can create basic MBR and MFT, no luck recognising. Also I can use the disk in a USB caddy in Windows XP on another PC fine.

This new disk will display the same issues in another known working P4. I see no options in BIOS to get around the issue. I have updated the BIOS to v3.20, however the result is the same.

Any clues?

Hey all,

I have a Tecra S11 which was updraded to Win 10. I want to revert it to out of the box state, with new HDD.
I managed to make a recovery USB flash with the Toshiba software (it was the only option, no DVD option).
Now when I boot from the USB and select the recovery wizard, it asks to insert the recovery media 1.

Do I have a solution to recover it using the USB flash?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Florin

The first three lights come on,when I try to start it . Nothing else happens no noise or anything. I have tried taking battery out, starting with external power only still the same.

Does it sound expensive to fix.

A:Tecra A2 is not powering up

Can you please post a bit more about this machine?
Have you bought it as used one and now you try to fix it?

Have you maybe tried to update BIOS and now you have this problem?

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer exact diagnostic but it doesn?t sound good to me. Maybe is BIOS screwed-up. Repair can be pretty expencive.

I want to use this old laptop which originally had win98. I managed to put win xp on it, but it is unworkable slow. Today I tried Lubuntu (a linux distributioon specific for oldies) but that too is too slow.

I just want a simple OS to browse.

A:Which new OS can I use with old Tecra 8100?

I don?t know which ?new? OS do you mean but fact is that you have old piece of hardware and if you want to have well working machine you should install supported operating systems ony.

Drivers for them you can find on Toshiba support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp in archive

Hello,

i have a question regarding the Ampere usage of the HDD and SSD.
MyvToshiba HDD uses 5V and 800mA. The SSD i want to use takes 5V and 1,6A. Thats double the Ampere used by the HDD.
Will there be problems with the powersupply?

A:Tecra S11-11P switch from HDD to SSD

> Will there be problems with the powersupply?
Why?
In worst case the battery working time would be a little bit shorter due to higher SSD drive power consumption but there should not be a bigger issue?

Hello at all,
I have some Problems with the sound of my Toshiba Tecra A10. I already installed the Realtek Audio Driver and I see the little Speaker symbol down on the right side, too.

But I hear nothing. The Device Manager has a yellow Question Mark on "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus".

I Installed the Agere Systems Modem, but nothing happened.

Can someone help me and give me a link for this Driver I need.
I use Windows XP.

Hardware Detail:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_11790001& REV_1002\4&9E9AEC4&0&0101

Regards,

A:Tecra A10 - No Sound using Win XP

> I use Windows XP.

Ok, I though similar issues with Win XP on other notebooks with new HD audio from Realtek.
The point is that you need SP2 and SP3!

The SP2 and SP3 provides important fixes and patches for HD audio?
So first of all uninstall the installed Realtek audio driver.
Then install the SP2 and SP3.
Then go to the device manager and delete the devices marked with yellow exclamation mark.
Then reboot the notebook.
Now Win XP should found a new audio device and should ask for the driver.
No you should install the sound driver from Realtek.
Reboot once again? and now the sound should works fine?

Does any one see any problems swapping out the 160GB HDD for a 1TB HDD i have already partitioned/formatted and installed XP PRO on the 1 TB HDD in my Satellite M-105 and it is working fine in there but would prefer it in the faster newer TECRA Laptop.

Thanks

A:Tecra M10 - HDD upgrade

Hi

I think this should not be a big problem since the SATA controller should handle the 1TB HDD.

You can test it using the HDD from the M105? the replacement is not difficult and both units M105 and M10 supports the same SATA HDD.

I wonder whether anyone might be able to answer a question for me.

I have a nice Tecra R10-11B and it has been very good for quite a few years. It runs Win XP and does everything asked of it without a problem.

What I would like to find out, though, is whether it is possible to fit a quicker CPU. I have a suspicion that the installed cpu may be permanently fixed and is not replaceable but I would like to find out.

I had played with the idea of replacing the Intel P9400 Core Duo with something a bit new, to allow perhaps installing Win 7 and more memory. There is 3gb of ram installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:CPU upgrade on Tecra R10

The CPU is socked and this means that the CPU is removable.
But the important fact is that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPU upgrade.
One of the main reasons is the BIOS which is mostly modified by notebook manufacturers.

But let?s start with some basic knowledge:
The CPU has to be supported by chipset and BIOS.

So let?s check what CPU would be supported by Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset which is part of the Tecra R10-11B
Here on this Intel Ark page you can find compatible CPUs
http://ark.intel.com/products/35505/Intel-82GS45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility

But even if the chipset would support new CPU, some compatibility problems may appear because of the BIOS.
However, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs ( Montevina Penryn) were equipped in different R10 models, so probably other Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs would be supported.

By the way: the RAM could be upgraded up to 4GB RAM

We have recently purchased 4 new m10 laptops with the intel graphics

We wanted to have dual monitors using a port replicator but it has come to our attention that the intel graphics is unable to display DVI

We were wondering if there was any way around this issue? Without having to buy a new laptop.

For example is it possible at all to upgrade the graphics card?

Thanks

A:Tecra M10 - how to display DVI?

Generally speaking graphic card upgrade on notebooks is not supported and I think not possible. http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

Back to your problem:
In user?s manuals is written
As the port operation of all DVI (Digital Visual interface) monitors has not been confirmed, some DVI monitors may not function properly.

Page 86.

Have you tested it with different monitors? I mean from different manufacturers?

Hi all,

This is a problem I have been facing for about one month.
I've already asked help to the Microsoft support and I manage to circumstance the problem, unfortunately without being able to solve it.
The problem is the following:

Every time I plug an external hard drive via USB I am asked to format it before using it. This of course I do not want to do. This problem appeared all of a sudden, before everything was working perfectly.

My external hard drives work perfectly in other enclosures namely other laptops.

Additionally, if I reboot Windows 7 in the "safe mode" I can connect the external hard drives via USB without problems. It appears it is something I've got recently which is conflicting to my external hard drives.

Could it be any Toshiba update? Do you have any idea about things I could try to locate the problem?

I thank you in advance.
Cheers
Andrea

A:Tecra M10 USB need formatting before use

Hi Andrea

Do you have Toshiba external Hdd or Toshiba laptop? I ask this because you ask for Toshiba update.
