Faulty USB port

Q: Faulty USB port

Hello!

I have a HP pavilion g6 laptop that I bought at the end of August. There are 3 USB ports on this machine and I have been using one of them to plug in my wireless mouse USB plug (the mouse is a logitech M305.) Now, this USB port does not work anymore. It doesn't detect the mouse USB plug nor does it read USB devices.

What can I do? Is it possible to physically replace a USB port? How?

Thanks!
Tine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The headphone port on my Thinkpad z60m 2529 rcu produces "uneven" sound. When I plug in my computer speakers, depending on how I wiggle the input jack the sound changes. If I hold it in the right place then the sound is as it should be. Otherwise, the sound is lower and portions of the music I am listening to is inaudible. I am tested this out on a number of songs and, as an example, I can not hear the bass guitar portions of a lot of the songs unless I put the input jack for my speakers in a very specific position and continue to hold it like that.

How do I fix this?
I was googling this and I read some forum posts about others users recommending people like me who have this problem to purchase an external audio device and do not use the internal sound card. They said it will improve the audio too. If I am not able to fix this, should I follow this route?

That is generally the most common solution as it doesn't require a tear down of the laptop. It may also not be possible to repair the broken port on the laptop or may require a new port or audio header/board. What's probably happened is the either the plastic port is broken and the connect the jack makes is poor or the pins that connect the port to the motherboard have broken loose and aren't making good contact. Using a PC Card, XpressCard, or USB sound card is generally the super fast and 100% effective fix.

I have a ThinkPad P51. I am trying to set up Thunderbolt networking between my P51 and my 2017 Macbook Pro. When I connect the cable from my P51's TB3 USB-C Port to the TB3 USB-C Port on the Macbook Pro, I get this pop-up:  Also, my Thunderbolt networking options are grayed out: The Networking Driver Version is "Unknown":  And finally, I'm unsure if this is normal or not, but when I pull up the Device Properties for Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15D9 it looks like this: Is my Thunderbolt port faulty? I did a complete uninstall of the Thunderbolt software and drivers, followed by a re-install using Lenovo System Update, reboot - same results.

A recent power outage has caused some of my hardware to function oddly...
My tv's hdmi ports seem to still work for say a ps3, but when hooking up to my gtx 760 I get "No Signal"?
I only have one hdmi port but several other dvi ports. My smaller monitor(plugged into dvi port 1) is functioning normally. It also seems the gpu is still functioning because I booted Dota 2 just fine with 60fps(vsync). Could this outage have fried the hdmi port? Should I be worried, should I return it or just buckle down with 2 dvi connectors? I was gonna test out hdmi to dvi cables to test my theory but am unsure what to do otherwise.

Hi guys this is my first post as im at a loss of what to do .
Recently my old monitor stopped working, it was using a VGA cable, but the cable is not the problem, my PC is. I bought a new monitor which requires HDMI, however the port on my PC will not respond to the cord, meaning I have no monitor :/ or anyway to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of would be to buy a USB to HDMI adapter? But even then I would need a monitor to install the device surely. I would usually take it to the shop, but with lockdown I am lost and without a PC for the forseeable future, help would be appretiated!

Hi Warro, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think anyone here can give you much help without knowing:

1: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of your computer and/or the motherboard.

2: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of any video controller expansion card (the card itself, not the manufacturer and model number of the graphics IC) plugged into the motherboard.

3: The operating system running the PC.

Hi, I decided to speed up my laptop by replacing almost unused ODD with a new SSD drive so mounted the disk into adaptive frame and plugged into the DVDR slot. Firstly everything looked up fine but after further attempts to clone old drive or install brand new Windows from bootable pendrive this new drive started behave unpredictably, ie. give errors, freeze, timeout partitioning operations or even wasnot visible as connected physical device case by case.
I firstly suspected the drive self so sent it to RMA, but the seller returned it with no hardware fault found. So now the surmise lies on faulty SATA subsystem. Since original HDD connected to SATA port #1 operates alltime without issues the possibly failing part is the SATA port #2 or SATA cable.
I will appreciate a solution to have flawlessly working SSD and possibly also keeping the old plate harddrive to retain storage space for less speed critical data
I.e. any chance to make working the problematic 2nd SATA channel, swap the ports, but then probably the old drive will be the one not stable. In the last resort I can try to change the SATA cable, but don't know which type I can use and if it's replaceable at all. Thanks for any good advices.

A few days ago I upgraded my PCs motherboard, from a MSI Z370 PC Pro, to a Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon (also MSI), at first there was no issues at all, until a few days after, my Ethernet speeds were dropping randomly.

One minute Ill have perfect internet speeds over ethernet (my normal speeds of 200mbps), then the next my download will be almost 0 mbps, while upload speeds are fine. This happens randomly, isnt fixed by a reboot, and Ive found no way to fix it. Ive tried the following troubleshooting:

Tried different Ethernet cables
Tried a different PC, and tested the speeds over WiFi (to see if it was my internet)
Removed and reinstalled the Ethernet drivers (once for each source: MSI site, Intel site and Windows device manager/update)
Assigning manual/static IP configuration within windows
Resetting BIOS
Updated BIOS

I should also mention that after the BIOS update (which did complete successfully) my 8600k was not being detected, I spent a few hours troubleshooting this and in the end what fixed it was either reseating the CPU power cable (wasnt an issue until the BIOS update however) or resetting the CMOS (Im leaning to this) But the core thing here is another issue seen is a CPU not being detected for a short period of time

As of now I cant think of anything else to try with troubleshooting the Ethernet port, and I am leaning towards an RMA. If anyone needs any more info about my specs I can provide them.

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a multifunctional laser unit via parallel port on a PC running XP Pro and is unsuccessful in getting it to print.

I have put the LPT ports into SPP and ECP modes with no luck. (have not tried EPP although I should as its bi-directional) I have also tried different parallel cable, different versions of drivers, tried printing from DOS using "dir > lpt1" and still no luck. The LCD on the unit says "waiting" then goes back to "ready" with no output.

I have connected the unit to my laptop running XP Pro. The LPT is set to ECP. I can print from windows with several versions of the drivers as well as from DOS without problems.

I also have a HP A3 Bubblejet that has a monitoring toolbox. This unit is connected via USB but also has Parallel support. I have removed this printer and toolbox software believing this toolbox was locking down the LPT port and still no luck with printing to the laser unit. I have connected the HP Bubblejet via parallel (with no toolbox software loaded) and also got no print.

Lastly, if i remove the LPT1 port in Device Manager and rescan for hardware, the PC detects the LPT port and the attached device. It installs the driver for the attached device and indicates all is installed and ready to use. but printing fails.

Thus I believe there is something going on with the PC not the printer units. However, I am still unsure if it's software or hardware related.

Hello, everyone.
I am using a Latitude 3540 laptop with switchable graphics (Intel HD Graphics, AMD Radeon HD 8850M). As soon as I got the laptop, I upgraded to 8.1 (probably a mistake!).
All of my drivers are up to date according to Device Manager, and I've updated the chipset and BIOS and everything according to the Dell website. But for as long as I've had this laptop, the VGA port will not work! I'm using a VGA cord that has worked with other laptops before without issue. The laptop will not output to projector, external monitor, or a TV. Pressing the win-P combination brings up the ability to extend and duplicate my screen. When I change those settings, my screen resolution will change, but the external monitor/projector doesn't display anything. When I try to detect displays in my graphics properties, it just doesn't detect anything that's connected.
Is my VGA port faulty? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try at this point? My laptop is still under warranty, so I suppose I could always send it in to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!

This is what happens: After a few hours of operation, svchost.exe crashes

Doesn't matter what I'm doing; Gaming, surfing, you name it.
Faulting module svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, faulty address 0x00000000.

A few seconds will pass as I accept, and my theme will change from the start blue one to the old grey one in a few seconds and then reset to the standard XP one.

Here's what I know so far: When this happens crashes, it takes Windows Audio and a few other services with it, which I have to start again using Run/services.msc. I know which instance contains the Windows Audio service, so the problem is most likely with one of the services hosted within that particular instance of svchost.

I'm a bit lost, though. I don't know what to do because it doesn't give me an address, it doesn't tell me which service is messing up, so I need some help. I have the windows error log and a decent recollection of what has happened since that error started: I got a new X-fi sound card, a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion. Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Thanks,
Marlon

I believe the initial crash was caused by overheating. Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time, more on that later. Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine. I can boot into safe mode, and I have already reinstalled windows. My motherboard is Asus B85M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV3A GTX 590.
How I got it to work for a short amount of time : I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver. After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers. I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller. So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk. It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel.
I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card. The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed.

Sorry that this is quite long, but I want to give complete details as to the problem rather than just giving a vague problem...
Nvidia 8500GT card has been overclocked for the last year:

Original: 450, 900, 400
Stable OC: 690, 1380, 547

Before you panic, it's been stable and temps have been fine (<70). My motherboard is a Asus P5N-E SLI board. The computer is dual boot to Vista (for general use) and XP x64 (for games). ONLY XP IS OVERCLOCKED. Vista is not overclocked at all. Only the GPU is overclocked in the computer.

Now, the problems started when I moved the computer. All the games on x64 crashed unless I underclocked the machine, except UT (ancient game) which garbled the graphics (weapon textures on walls etc). I found out it was because somehow the card wasn't plugged in properly - so I pushed it back and I was able to play again.

Since then, sometimes the card is alright and other times it isn't. The other day I was playing fallout (graphics intensive game) for around 3 hours without any problems. But right now, I boot to vista and within a minute it crashes. Other times I was programming (not even using graphics) and the mouse suddenly has a flickering box around it - then the computer crashes.

When it crashes, the screen goes weird colours (like its rendered the screen as 4 bit colours rather than 32 bit) and shortly after I get a blue screen with it complaining about a graphics DLL.

At first, giving the card a wiggle in the PCI-E slot fixed... Read more

This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or 0.0.0.0.80/443 which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Hi,

Please forgive me if any of my posts offend, as I am new to this site. I don't intend to be rude, but my ignorace may anger some. Also forgive the length of the post, I wish to be thorough as to avoid getting possible solutions that I have already tried or are not relavent.

I recently had some repairs done on my computer which involved reformatting my hard drive and when I got it back started having trouble accessing some internet sites. Well, this has me baffled. My Bell Internet Security Services Activation (I just installed it on a computer not used for some 4 or 5 months) popped up a window saying "Waiting for Internet connection"...and waiting and waiting. But my Netgear wireless connection to the router in the house indicates "very good" signal strength, which I thought meant I was connected. Obviously not!

I tried opening IE. "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" (much as I expected)

Clicked the button which was showing on the IE cannot connect page "Diagnose connection problems" and followed the instructions. The final diagnostic is "Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the ports HTTP...etc." Where on this earth are they?!

I checked the Windows Firewall settings and found it "off (not recommended)" so I switched it on.

I re-ran the diagnostic on the IE page and nothing has changed.

My question is:

How do I check the settings for HTTP port (80) and HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)? Also what do I set them to?

Many thanks, in advance, for a solution to my problem!

So you just installed an Internet Security Suite which has a Firewall built-in and then you enabled XP' built-in firewall? I am baffled as to why you would do that. The new software you installed has to be blocking it somehow. I would search their website for known issues.

A:How Do I change Com.port 1 to Com.port 3? My modem is silent. Dual booting problem

What do you mean by changing COM1 to COM3? Do you want to move a device? Reassign IRQs? Physically pick one up off the motherboard and move it?

Your modem sound is usually configured in two places. One is in the Control Panel, and the other is in the Dial-up Networking settings. Adjust the volume there.

Are you running Windows 2000 and Windows 98 on separate paritions (drive letters)? If so, you'll need to use special software to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS. I believe Parition Magic will allow this without data loss. However, I would never make such a large system change without first backing up data. There is always the chance that everything could get wiped out.

That isn't a problem cause it would stay in the same port. Anyway device manager said it was working we changed the charicter generator to com 3 but it wouldn't work. We no the cables are good. I then got a PCI Card with one serial port instead of two and installed it and it show right up in the device manager and said it was working and I for get what comport it was on but changed it to com 1. that port didn't work either. Finally brought in another windows xp computer and hooked everhthing to it and it works. The xp computer I brought in had no serial port so used the same usb to serial adaptor that we had used and it work the first time. Show up in the device manager just like on the first comp... I contacted Lenovo support today and got NO help in answering my question on this T470 Thinkpad. Is the T470 able to support two external monitors at the same time (one) using the HDMI port, (one) using the USB-c port (connected VIA an HDMI adapter lets say) to two 32" LGMA68HY-P 60HZ ISP LED's ( max res 1920 x 1080) that ARENOT 4K displays!!  Man it was like pulling teeth, upside down, in the dark, getting astraight answer from tech support on the issue. It looks like my Pro Dock will be useless in this application. As soon as I plugged in a VGA monitor the HDMI port died. HELP!!

hi,

Recently i've noticed that port 50 000 is blocked, and bitcomet says it is blocked from using this for listening. Port 50 000 used to be open, and i even forwarded it to my router.

Currently i have no firewalls running, not even the windows firewall. I also have no anti-virus running. I've checked the port forwarding settings on my routers admin page and they appear correct. Does anyone have any ideas how i could unblock this port? Thanks. I am running windows xp home.

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware.  I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor.  I am trying to connect all 3 via display port.  However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors?  When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator?  Is there a firmware update somewhere?

A:Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

The E6520 comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000.  The specs for that GPU are buried in the specs for the CPU itself, but if you go to ark.intel.com and look up your CPU, then scroll down to the graphics section and verify that it shows Intel HD Graphics 3000, you'll find that that GPU only supports 2 independent displays, which is why you see mirroring.  More recent Intel GPUs do indeed support 3 displays, but no Intel GPUs to my knowledge yet support 4.
If your E6520 has the NVIDIA discrete GPU, I can't find any information on NVIDIA's site about maximum number of supported displays, but based on your experience I would assume it's 2 unless indicated otherwise.

I'm doing terabytes of data transferring for months on end, and I was wondering if new hardware allows you to use multiple connections between hardware to transfer data to portable backup disks quicker.

Think Azure with a 5GB fiber line to RAID mirroring bay with only a USB3.0 and an ESATA port (dual banding) on the bay.

Hey Guys,

I have been messing around with Apache from (XAMPP) on my Windows computer. I know that it is not secure, but I am just testing it for right now (for fun).

I am behind a Linksys WRT54g router. I can easily access the apache server from internally (locally), and in order for me to be able to access it externally (external IP in address bar), I have to port forward in my router.

So, I port forwarded port 80 and everything worked fine. I just had a question about this.

Since most internet (HTTP) traffic is served through 80, and I just port forwarded 80 to one computer, how do the other computers on my network still have access to the net. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that this works, but I would just like to know how. Theoretically, wouldn't all the traffic that is coming through 80 be routed to that one computer?

Can someone explain this to me?

Also, when people use Apache to host sites, do they usually keep the apache ServerName (in httpd.conf) at localhost, or do they change it to a different IP? I would imagine they would keep it at localhost, so what would be the reason for changing that to a different IP?

Thanks!

A:Question about port forwarding port 80 (for apache) and a couple other questions

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

My laptop had headphones plugged in because I was watching a film, but while I was in another room, my laptop was knocked onto the floor (around 1.5-2 ft drop) landing on the headphones jack, the wire is fine, but the ports completely broken, I can see cracks and its loose and everything

The laptop has Realtek HD audio manager, and in my experience of this program on other desktops I've had, I was able to change what port does what.

My laptop only has a headphones port and a mic port, and I would like to see if I can switch the mic port to be the headphones port because I never use an external mic, however in Realteks audio manager I can't find out how to do this. In pictures I've seen on the internet there is a "Device Advanced Settings" button (as seen in this picture http://www.vistax64.com/attachments...ealtek-hd-audio-driver-version-hd_manager.jpg) but my program doesn't have this.

Do I need to download a newer version of the software? or is it just not possible to change my mic port to be my headphone port? I dont mind if I have to use third party software, I just want it to tide me over till I can get it sent away.

Thanks for suggestions, greatly appretiated

A:Realtek HD audio manager, change a mic port to a headphones port?

I doubt very much if this will be possible. The mic and headphone ports are wired directly to the Audio section of the motherboard, there connections cannot be altered.

Your best bet is to get the damaged port repaired.

I have dual monitors......my primary display monitor is a Chimei CMV223D
My secondary display monitor is an Acer AL1916W.

My graphics card is an HD ATI Radeon 5800.

PROBLEM:

My primary display monitor which usually has a display resolution of 1680x1050 is currently stuck on 640x480 and in the property settings it won't let me change the resolution. The cable running from the Graphics card is an HDMI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter. I have also tried using the DVI port of the video card to the DVI port of the PC which comes up with same problem. Using a DVI/VGA converter and a VGA cable the VGA port on the monitor works fine!!! SOOOO long story short there is definitely something going on with the monitors DVI port.........

This randomly occurred overnight and is driving me insane to know what I need to fix. I have used different cables and to no such luck. My secondary monitor is just humming away just fine! But I really need my primary display.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers for the graphics card which is the Catalyst control centre suite and all monitor drivers appear to be up to date.

WHY oh why is my monitor locked at this resolution!!??? How to fix please help!!!

A:DVI port on monitor is stuck res of 640x480 VGA port works fine

Hello guys,

I am being more concerned since few days about daily suspicious network traffic in my network about the below.

Looks like UDP port 137 from my private IP contacting destination port 137 to a public IPs (one source to many public destinations). I investigated these traffic by taking into consideration about 50 + offenses and 80% scan results on these PCs didn't find anything suspicious. Rest 30% detected some PUP programs from registry and some adwares, which I believe are not that much suspicious. (Scanned by Malwarebytes and Super anti spyware)

Below is a syslog log I am posting for your reference captured by my SIEM tool sent by Firewall.

<164>%ASA-4-106023: Deny udp src Internal:172.28.169.167/137 dst External:114.80.174.240/137 by access-group "My_CSM_FW_ACL" [0xb292c4f, 0x412e8e2f]

This traffic is happening on a daily basis, and to avoid security issues we have to unnecessarily scan those machines. But is this really a suspicious traffic ? Could someone please help me on this, please. After a brief investigation, if I find something good, I can save a lot of waste work by colleagues sitting abroad scanning the machines.

CDMA software requires a COM port to communicate with a cell phone. I'm using HW Virtual Serial Port v3.1.2 (single port, standalone install).

I have a separate modem and router. My Win8.1 PC is hardwired to the modem. Windows firewall is off. Windows Defender is off. Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation 5.9.0 is installed (directly from Moto's website for my phone although Win8 is not listed just Win7. I did not install in Win7 compatibility mode.). My Motorola Droid Razr HD is running stock 4.1.1 ROM. It is booted into BP Tools. WiFi is off. USB Debugging is on. It's connected as MTP (media device). Stay awake is on. Modem, PC, & phone have been rebooted. There are no errors in Device Manager for the Motorola USB Networking Driver.

In IP config, the IPv4 address for the Motorola USB Networking Driver is 192.168.137.1. In HW Virtual Serial Port under Settings tab, I unchecked NVT Enabled. On the Virtual Serial Port tab, I selected Port Name=COM10, IP Address=192.168.137.2, and Port=11008. When I select Create COM, COM10 is created and I can see it in Device Manager but I get a LAN status error (in HW Virtual Serial Port app). So something is not right. In Network & Sharing Center, I see it's an unidentified public network with no internet access (IPv4).

I'm at a loss on how to fix this. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thank you in advance for the help.

Hello,
I have trouble as described in the topic,
I have two most old laptop models, Dell Precision M6300 & Dell Latitude D630.
When laptops is docked to replicator potr dock stations D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) - bigger one model with DVD port,

headphone jack port not working under Windows 10 Pro x64 installed on both laptops.

On M6300 previously was installed Windows 7 Ultimate and on D630 was Windows 8.1.
On Dell  M6300 on Win 7 Ult. headphone jack port worked properly.
On Dell D630 on Win 8.1 I'm not sure due I do not used this on it (more years ago when it was on Win XP headphone jack port worked properly)
So when Ms start delivering updates do Win 10, I did it on doth laptops, everything on both models working fine, but only this headphone jack port in D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) wouldn't like to work when I'm dockind Dell M6300 (D630 I docked only
for test if on this one jack port will work or not) but not working too like on M6300.
So loks like drivers whih was made oryginally for Win Vista x64 ale which was workable for Windows 7 64b wouldn't like to work on Windows 10.
Maybe You have some tips what to do with this to press them to work?

I have had my desktop Dell, with Windows 8.1, well over 10 years, and now it has been hanging up after only a few minutes of booting up -- sometimes giving me a BSoD . I've spent many hours with different kinds of 'fixes' (which the computer couldn't eventually fix), 'refreshing' of the system', etc. I've given up on it . There are probably too many system errors to try and fix with outside-the-system apps, so I'm not going to even bother with it anymore .

Hello, I am an IT Technician for an electric cooperative. I am having a very odd issue that I can not seem to resolve and I am in need of assistance.

We have 4 Dell Latitude notebooks all running XP and we also have some very high end GPS units made by Trimble that we are going to be using to stake out points on a map. Whenever I connection through bluetooth with the GPS I am able to pair but the GPS control software never recognizes it when I chose the COM port assigned to it. Whenever I connect it directly through a cable(serial to usb) it never detects it either.

However this is the odd part, when I test this on my desktop I am able to connect just fine with the exact same method.

Any ideas?
