TrackPoint middle button does right-click - how to disable?

Q: TrackPoint middle button does right-click - how to disable?

Currently my TrackPoint middle button does scrolling as desired but when I release it, it pops up a right-click menu. I can't figure out how to turn off the right-click functionality. Any ideas? I believe I have fully explored the entire Mouse properties dialog from Control Panel, including the advanced one with the special TrackPoint options. I tried any option that looked even vaguely related, and nothing helped. Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Lenovo, Currently the Trackpoint's middle button can only do either scrolling or middle mouse button click in Windows. This behavior can be set in lenovo vantage or mouse settings. Could you provide option to enable both scrolling and middle mouse click functions at same time? In linux this is already supported out of the box for a long time. The only workaround in windows is by using third party software called TPMiddle, but this software only works with Synaptics trackpoint, it doesn't work with Elan or ALPS trackpoint.

I guess I need to stop installing drivers...  I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion).  Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore!  It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings.  I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll  I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

Hi,

On my X1Y3 it started about a month ago.  Bascially after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of the computer turning on my trackpoint icon gets stuck with the middle scrolling point icon anytime im in a text field.  It acts like the middle track point buttoin is depressed even when its not.  see below picture circled in yellow.  This is not related to a specific browser.  It happens in Chrome, IE and Edge.  Synaptics driver version 19.3.4.224.  I updated to the current driver about 3 weeks ago when this problem 1st started.  It happened on the prior driver too.

Hey folks, The middle button for trackpoint doesn't work. All drivers are up to date. Middle button is enabled for scrolling, not clicking. Middle button works when switched over for clicking. It just randomly stopped working last week, but it works when I switch it over to clicking in the settings tool. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes, there was a post several years ago describing this same issue which was supposedly fixed with an update of the Synaptics driver.  However, I am seeing this issue again on my X270 Windows 10 x64 Pro with latest driver version 19.3.4.219. If I set the mouse pointer size to something larger than default "1" it stays at the larger size until I use the trackpoint middle button to scroll.  the pointer then shrinks back down to size "1".  Just as with the previous report of this issue if I set the middle button function to "click" rather than "scroll" the pointer retains its larger size.  I constantly use trackpoint scrolling so that is not really a fix for me. Has anyone else seen this issue recently and perhaps found a fix that allows continued use of trackpoint scrolling with a larger pointer? Thanks.

Hi  Planner,
Welcome to the Community. Please add your system model and operating system when posting on the Community. To disable the track stick, click on start, control panel, mouse, wait for the Dell touchpad image to appear and click on the touchpad image, click on the option Pointing stick or device select, you should have an option to disable it there.
Thank you

I'm wondering if it's possible to change the default setting for the middle mouse button click in Firefox. When clicking on a link, rather than have it open the window in a new tab I'd like to set it to open in a new browser window. Is this possible? I'm using the latest version of firefox, fully patched on xp pro sp2. Thanks!

A:Customize middle mouse button click

In your address bar type - about:config

In the filter bar type - middle

Now from the few entries left locate - browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick and double click the line to toggle the value from true to false.

Hi Everyone, I see that some changes were made to the TrackPoint in the newest UltraNav drivers package -- namely, there are no more customized options for stick scrolling with the TrackPoint. Is there any way to reset the middle button to perform a middle click rather than stick scrolling? I see that the Registry options are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics, but there are so many options! Is there anyone out there who can help me with this? Thanks in advance! Side note: I considered the older UltraNav driver, but that doesn't have the Windows 8 charm bar feature. I also considered the latest driver from the Synaptics website, but it doesn't have the "prioritize for trackpoint" option and I feel that the palm rejection is inferior to that provided by the Lenovo one. Side note #2: My main reason for requesting this is to improve the scrolling experience with my ThinkPad. I've been able to optimize my touchpad scrolling with a modified version of TwoFingerScroll, and really need to do the same with my trackpoint. For the trackpoint in Windows 7, I liked DragToScroll, which I feel provides more sensitive scrolling than the one in the UltraNav driver in most applications.

Hi, hendhess

I'm not sure about fixing the issue through the registry, though I did find two threads on this issue that may be able to help you solve the issue. There's this one started by zsero that has some suggestions and the like. There is also this thread which is linked from zsero's. According to some, if every former Synaptics driver is removed and then the new one is installed, the middle-click functionality is restored, though this isn't universal.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I would like to use the trackpoint as a proper middle click instead of the (also useful) proprietary scroll mode. Basically same problem as discussed here: http://superuser.com/questions/91074/thinkpad-trackpoint-scrolling-and-middle-click-possible However that article seems a little old. The synaptics control panel on the W540 seems to be markedly different and I cannot for the life of me find out where to disable that or set the middle  click to be a regular middle click. Could someone please advise?

Yeah it seems they removed it (WHY.) from the newer model's drivers. It looks like the registry key is HKCU\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\StickPS2It also looks like the entry you have to change is Gestures to 0 from 0x80 (128).

The button is currenly only used to scroll with the knob. I suppose this is more of a feature request, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. Any help is appreciated though. Kind regardsZitrooone

I recently purchased an XPS 15 9550 and I need middle mouse click in some of my applications. Under touchpad settings, It only allows mapping 3-finger click to Cortana or Activity Center. Does anyone know how I can get the touchpad to send a middle mouse click to my applications?  On previous laptops I have owned, they typically included a Synaptics touchpad, which always made it easy to perform this mapping using a 3-finger click, but it seems like Dell has included something custom and no such options appear to be available. Long story short, im looking for a way to hopefully make the middle mouse scroll wheel / button be able to open a clicked link up in a new window automatically.
Just like firefox does.

NOTE: I am reffering to IE6 and not IE7, that has tabs and what not...I never seen the need to update it to IE7 since i dont use it
I know i put the word "tab" in the title, but thats just for helping other searchers find my post if its relative.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

All I know about my mouse is this:

A:Mouse freezes on [Hold RMB + click middle mouse button]

I've never seen any other posts with that same problem so it may be intentionally built-in to that particular mouse to prevent others using your PC when you're away from it. Read it's instructions if you got any with it, it should tell you if it's got a built-in mouse lock, although that feature usually requires additional third-party mouse software to be installed to recognise when the appropriate buttons have been pressed.

If no instructions were supplied, go to it's manufacturer's website to see if it's mentioned there.

Hi all,

I am working on a project for elderly and people with disability. The project is on "re-adjusting" a normal computer mouse. Some of these folks can not double-click, nor hold the left-click down for dragging files/folders. I found the following codes for changing the middle-click to left-double-click. One is written in C# the other in CPP.

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/MBtn2DblClick.aspx

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/MBtn2DblClickVC.aspx

This program would be very handy for them.

Regarding the 2nd part, what I am looking for, should work like the following:

1. Move the pointer on a file/folder
2. Press and release the Middle/Wheel Click
3. Move the pointer and it moves/drags the file/folder.
4. Press and release the click again and the pointer releases the file/ folder

This should work for the Windows environment. Does the description make sense?

Does anybody know if such a code has been written?

Thanks,

-Farzad

Hey! I'm quite happy with my new P1 2nd Gen, except the pointing devices suck. Lenovo seems to have switched the TrackPoint to ALPS which comes very stiff, choppy and inaccurate. I played around with udev rules and acceleration settings which made it a bit better, but it is still far from the awesome accuracy and smoothness of the W540, my last machine. Same with the three buttons on top of the TrackPad - especially the left one doesn't react reliably when hit on the lower right corner. I have to press a second time every ten clicks or so. This definitely sucks, so my question is: Is anyone aware of other manufacturers/options of especially TrackPoints and TouchPad-buttons for the P1 apart from ALPS? BestMarkus

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

So this is the second time I am experienceing a problem with my x1 trackpoint and with the debacle of shipping that happened last time, I don't want to have to go through this again. I have sent my unit into lenovo for the same problem about 2 months ago.  the problem is similar to the one outlined here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-erratic-trackpoint-Synaptics-19-3-4-99/td-...). the mouse finds a home in the bottom-left or top right corner.   However, I perfer the touchpad to the pointing stick, so this probably is not be a hardware problem (or it is and it's just faulty hardware from the start).   All I literally want to do is disable the trackpoint pointing stick.  but when I do, it disables clicking so that's not an option.   I really can't afford to go another 2 months without my laptop again.  not now.    Edit: I goofed my lefts and rights
