Default view settings

Q: Default view settings

I prefer to view details versus icons when I open a folder. I change the views to details but eventually, icons always return. Is there a way to change the default folder views to detail and have it stay that way?

Preferred Solution: Default view settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Default view settings

You may try this:

Open "My Computer", menu Tool/Folder Option, Under tab View, check "Remember each folder view setting"

I was wondering, without changing every single folder in My Pictures manually (I have many), how to change everything from showing automatically in filmstrip and picking thumbnails?

So far, I've had to go to each folder and change. Is there a way to set view for automatically viewing in thumbnails (or anything else, other this this default setting of filmstrip)?

I've tried setting the whole file at thumbnail (and other files folders that have file folders within them), but when I open a folder that I've not changed manually, it's in filmstrip.

I've even opened the options > view and can't find anything about setting the way it opens in view to thumbnails, tiles, icons, etc.

Also, some of the file folders shows some sample pictures of the file (up to four) and others are a plain file folder. How do I set, so I can see samples of the pictures within the file folder?

And is there a way to choose those sample pictures on the front of the file folder?

Thank you.

I have a fairly new (bought in March) Fujitsu FMV Esprimo desktop computer with English OS (yes, Windows 7) here in Japan.

It has worked ok until about a week ago. A couple of weeks earlier, my home computer (NEC LaVie C laptop with XP Japanese OS) would open gmail with html view, not standard view, and I'd always have to manually change it to standard. Now this is sporadically happening on my Fujitsu.

I cannot find anywhere on gmail or Google that describes how to make standard view my default setting, and I've scoured the Google forums to no avail. I don't even see a customer service contact link to Google or gmail.

I just ran a Malwarebytes full system scan and found nothing. I run Avast and update it every day automatically. Have found no viruses so far.

I exchange email between the Fujitsu (at work on a different email system, not gmail) and the NEC (at home where I only use gmail), and on occasion I plug in a USB flash drive at home with info from the Fujitsu, and vice versa, so it is possible there might be an exchange of malware.

(My NEC has crashed (see another thread), so I cannot access it anymore. Probably a hard drive problem, not malware-related.)

In a newly installed Win XP sp3, or in an existing XP installation, I can change a folder view attributes, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab and with "Remember each folder's settings" checked I can click on [Apply to All Folders] and [OK] that. Windows, after that will open any folder in the same attrib, say Details, and a given size, and it will remember its location. The big exception that is very annoying, when I create a new folder (and I am always creating a temp folders for special file moving/copying/separating operations) the new folder opens into the default size of 600x800. Yes if I can adjust the size, Windows will remember it, but this temp folder is deleted when I am done and the next new one opens with the default size again. What is more tiresome is that I move from computer to another several times a day in my work. I carry with me some basic files on a CD and on flash drive. Each time I open one of these, YES you guest it, Windows will open it in the default viewing size of 600x800 (irrelevant to display res). I have tried searching the web, ran into many people wanting the same, no one so far has any answer. Yes there TSR programs like Autosizer that will control a Class-size or individual size, but this mean installing this program, and configuring it, on every computer and taking away a piece of RAM.

I was able to keep my home page on the browser where I want it. However, I have a seach toolbar that shows up whenever I open the broswer. I can select not to see with the 'view' tab but it gets reselected for view whenever I open the Broswer.

I also get the same 'search' toolbar in other windows (Windows Explorer for example.

Another porblem which seems to be related to the same source, is that although I have remember file view selections when reopening a folder in 'Folder Option' it always goes back to 'Large Icons' (I want 'list')

The problems all come from the original Broser Hi-jack thing. Can anyone advise?

Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

Is there a way to change the settings?

Thanks in advance

This works both ways.

Right-click Start button
Click Open on the shortcut menu.
Locate the shortcut for the program you want to start, and then select it.
Click File
Click Properties.
Click the Shortcut tab on the window that opens.
In the Run selection (close to the bottom)
Click Minimized or Maximized
Click apply.

From Windows Explorer:
Click the View tab then choose what you want.
Click on Tools then Folder Options.
Click on View tab then Apply to all folders.
Click OK as needed to get out.

I want ALL my folders to show content as details.
Even if they are pictures.
How do I do that?

Tried the folder options in the Config Screen (sorry, trying to translate from Dutch) but that won't work, plus I'm in a wrong folder, because that's one of the few I want to see as icons...

A:Default folder view

The best way I've found to go about that is to open any folder you like, select the 'details' view, then open the Folder Options, go to the second tab called View, and once there, click 'Apply to All Folders'. I think I've done this for random folders on all my different drives, and it usually does what I think you are after. Every folder will now display the 'Details' view by default.

I've had this frustration for a long time. I sure hope somebody can answer this question. I know how setting the default folders view in Windows Explorer is supposed to work. I've followed the instructions until I'm blue in the face. The problem is that it doesn't work. It sets all the views the same ok, but what I want is the Details view in all my folders, but something somewhere is insisting that I want the Icons view. Arghh! It's driving me nuts. I reeeeeally don't want my folders opening in Icons view. I need to see the details of my files, always. I can set 'remember each folders view settings' and go through all 225,627 of my folders (ok, that's a gross exaggeration) and individually set each folder to Details, but what a coplete waste of time when the system is supposed to do that for me, so I leave that unset and keep hoping that by some miricle I'll find something somewhere in a hidden tweak that actual WORKS. But so far to date I just keep getting ICONS! Grrrr! I did a search in this forum for 'default folder view' but came up with nothing but a bunch of unrelated questions. Hard to believe that nobody has ever had this problem but me, but oh well. I sure hope some kind knowledable soul out there will tell me how to set my folder views to Details once and for all and lock them in place. Thanks very much.

The default folder view for small-extra large is the folder open on its side with some documents sticking out.

I find this view rather confusing and would like to have the same view that XP had with some images or the image of your choice on the front of the folder. This is mainly a problem with my photo collection. The Vista/Win7 view just makes it harder to quickly recognize what's in the folder.
