I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A week ago, a strange clicking noise befalled us whenever we attempted to boot the system. The BIOS welcome screen would run for much longer than usual, and then a message "No internal hard drive found." would display. We thought it would be a hard drive error and replaced it.

Now, however, placing in a bootable OS installation CD does not work! Whenever we try, the computer acts like there is no CD (although sometimes the CD does begin to spin), and says there is no boot device available.

I have tried a Ubuntu CD, a Windows Vista CD, a Windows XP CD, and none of them work. It does not matter what CD you put in; it does not work.

So what is the problem? Is it fixable? Was it the hard drive that broke?

The system is a Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop.

A:Solved: After upgrading hard drive for Inspiron 5150 laptop, CD drive does not work

Never mind, everyone! It turns out, after I took it out and put it back in, it worked again. Maybe a connection problem... who knows.

Ok here goes. I have just installed another Hard Drive in my computer. It is a Seagate ST310014ACE. And for some reason it wont go. When i turn on the computer all i get from the drive is a loud ticking noise, about one tick every second. After a while the ticking will stop and the computer will say that their is no drive installed. I have tried changing the jumper around to see if i could get the computer to recognise it but it wont.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with the drive.

Any suggestions would be awsome.

A:Hard Drive Wont Work.

Its broke, take it back. If you want proof its broke take that cd that came with it and boot up, try to have it pass the diagnostics tests. If it even finds the disk. Hard drives should never click/tick/squeek.

my hard drive crashed. SO i installed a new hard drive. i used the reboot disk. but, when i put the floppy reboot disk.. all it says is reboot ok. but, in never install... Pls help..

A:hard drive wont work

Whats the reboot disk?

If its a Dell, HP, or another big brand name system then you should have a Recovery CD/DVD. If its a custom built computer you should have a Windows CD.

With either type of disc you need to enter the BIOS setup, usually DEL or F2 on startup, and change the boot order so that the CD\DVD drive is the first boot device and the hard drive is the second boot device.

I just purchased a western digital 160gb SATA 2 hard drive but my motherboard only has sata 1. So i hook everything on when i get to the formating screen where i pick what drive to install it on it says no hard disk detected. What can it be from?

A:Hard Drive Wont Work

Most Sata boards require an external driver not on the windows disk to be detected during a windows installation. This is because SATA ports are integrated into the raid controllers on motherboards. The motherboard drivers CD should have raid drivers. you need to make a floppy disk with the drivers. and an OEMtext file. most comapnies offer an executable file that will put those files to a disk for you. No, you cannot run teh drivers from a CD. it must be from a floppy.

I just got a new 40 gb OEM hard drive (IDE) and connected it up with my other 40 bg IDE HDD on on the same IDE cable. I set the jumper on the old one to master and on the new one to slave so i know thats all set up properly. But when i start windows, my hard drive doesnt show up in "My Computer" but it does show up in device manager and in device manager it is listed as working normally. I'm unable to connect my WD USB 3.0 external drive (with a USB 3.0 cable) to my USB 3.0 slots on my computer. All my drivers seem up to date. The drive works connected to the USB 2.0 slot on my system.

I tried a different WD USB 3.0 external drive to my computer to see if it was my computer or the drive itself, and this other WD drive worked fine. I even tried the cable from the other drive to rule out of it's a faulty cable, and the cable is fine.

So what I've gathered is that the drive won't connect to the USB 3.0 slot for some reason. I'm thinking it's either that there is something wrong with the external drive itself, or there is some sort of setting which is interfering with the connectivity. Although I'm guessing it's the former, since the other external drive connected just fine?

Any ideas?

I wanna buy this one and I would like to know first of all if it's a good choice for me, considering I have now a 320gb 5200rpm and it's worked fine for what I do with my computer, and second I would like to know if it's gonna fit on my computer.

What do you need to know in order to tell me that ?

Noob here! I've been lurking a bit and realize how little I know about computers. Anyways, I have a work laptop and am looking to clean up the hard drive of anything that may be on there that's not work related. I'm not turning it back in or anything, just want to cover my rear. Any suggestions as to a program or ways to do it myself w/o clearing out all my work files? Sorry for the extremely novice questions and I appreciate the help!

A:Cleanup hard drive on work laptop

Try getting a program like ACE Utilities which will allow you to scan your PC and remove unwanted files, duplicates, registry, history, Internet caches etc. If not ACE Utils then get a Registry & History Cleaner which will erase (hopefully) all traces of what you have been up to an where you have been.

Hi, i have some problems with my 8gb flash drive.
i get a few error when i try to fix it the way i can only think off, maybe someone else knows how i can fix it.

firstly: When i plug it in i get this error:

I click format as i think it will fix it and i get this:
As you can see it says "unknown capacity" and i dont know why or how to fix it.

i then click format and i get this error:
i then click close on the format window as i dont know what else to do and i get this error:

I have it plugged in correctly as its only 1 and a half inches long and it plugs smoothly into my usb port. The only thing i can think of that has made it crash like this is that the school computers have the "safely remove hardware" feature removed so i have to just remove it. Nothing has been done to this to damage the actuall hardware physically.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this i would appreciate it, if you could point me in the right direction.

Hello again,

I'd like to know how to tell if my comp will work with a certain type of hard drive.

All I know about the current hard drive is that it's an ATA, the hard drive i'd like to get is an "Ultra ATA" is there any difference between a normal ATA and an Ultra one? Is there someway to tell if my comp will work with the Ultra? (some sort of program) or some program/more details I can give you good people here that will allow you to tell me if it will work?

Edit: Is there some sort of program that will give me more details on my current hard drive?

A:Solved: How to tell if my comp will work with a hard drive?

It should work, but you'll need an 80 pin cable if you don't have one.Even then, it will work, but you'll get a warning about the cable.
We could tell you more if you gave us the hardware specs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Solved: Would an SATA 1.5 Gb/s hard drive work in a 3.0 Gb/s motherboard?

Yes the old hard drive will work at 1.5 Gb/s transfer rate, and the old PCIe graphics card will work at PCIe 1.0 speed.

Regarding the 8GB RAM, I assume you plan on running a 64-bit OS? If running a 32-bit OS, it won't recognize more than 4GB.

I updated my hard drive last night and went from a 60 gig hard drive to a 320. I reinstalled windows xp no problem, and proceeded to reinstall all my drivers (first of course was my graphics and wireless card). However, as I was going through the drivers, my audio refused to install.

The site I have been getting all my drivers from is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&lang=en&product=3177437

The only difference in operating system is that my 60 gig is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 and this is Service Pack 3.

My sound card still works fine as since I have changed hard drives I have swapped them out and gone back to my 60 gig when I initially had issues with trying to connect to the internet and had to download the driver onto my external hard drive so I could get online with this one.

The only difference in hard drives is the size, they are both made by the same company.

Any help to getting my audio to work would be MUCH appreciated.

Also, this being an HP laptop with the touch sensitive music controls and quickplay, any idea on getting my quickplay working again would be apprecaited as well, just as a side quest for now =)

ok , I have a Toshiba MK1637GSX 160GB SATA Laptop HDD which i have been told has failed. I finally got a Sata/Pata converter card (only goes SATA TO PATA) in an attempt to recover the data. When i boot my desktop with my regular HDD (PATA) and the SATA HDD as the secondary, it would detect that it was a Toshiba MK1637GSX but would not boot. SO, I plugged the primary HDD in on its own cable in pl 1 and the SATA on its own cable in pl 2. I then was able to boot!!! The black screen at the boot showed the drive but when windows came up and I checked in MY COMPUTER(XP), the drive was not there. So i then went to ADD NEW HARDWARE and there was no help.
ALSO I have a second PATA HDD that i use to store files so i know i can have more than 1.

Update!: i ordered 3 BRAND NEW 100GB HDDs of the exact same type. I ran the out-of-box-state restore and it installed Windows Vista and set the new HDD as if it was OoB. When laptop restarted, it got to the Windows loading screen and the SD card reader light came on (with no card) and would not progress. I tried putting a card in and removing it, and it then went to CONFIGURING WINDOWS FOR FIRST TIME USE! Afterwards it restarted and got to the loading screen SD light came on and never progressed, even after trying adding/removing card. 2 hrs later, no progress.

Not likely, but it could be a power issue if your speakers have a high wattage amp. Try unplugging the power from the speakers and see if the issue remains.
