gfx card issue

Q: gfx card issue

ok i just recently have been having problems with any thing graphics related. Ok first off, the other day i was playing need for speed : hot pursuit 2 and it all of a sudden froze, the music was still goin, but then that stoped, and then nothing was doing ne thing, but all of a sudden it started going again, and i kept playing. So that happened a few times and it pissed me off so i stoped playing. So now today i went to play wartcraft III - Throne of darkness and on the main screen as i was selecting an option it just froze up like need for speed did. Now i thought this was really bad and i started to get angry. So i quit and then restarted, but that didn't fix any thing it just froze a little while into the game.

So now i decided to re install war3 and the expansion but nope still nothing. Then i tried using differnet drivers fo my vid card and still no. So I started to try out other games, such as cs and still that game froze up once i was actually playin in the game. Then i quit, did restore thing to an earlier point and still same thing happened.

Now tonight after all my struggles i reinstalled windows, totally new(format and everything). With no luck it still froze up

Now i have been talking to other ppl and they say this has to be a graphics card problem, now i have a geforce TI 4200 and have enjoyed it performance, untill now. IT is only one year old so it shouldn't be dying of age yet.

Is this a hardware issue you think and the card is just dying of old age, or is this something different?

Help and support is apreciated.....plz help me, im dying over here without a comp

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The computer's a year old, running XP, and my boyfriend and I have no idea what's wrong with it (it's his). I'd put in hardware support but I don't know which piece of hardware may be corrupted, exploding as we speak, or what.

It began last night. He's done this before -- he has two monitors, one meant for a TV (I believe) and another old computer screen. Normally it runs on the TV one because it's bigger. He switched to the older one to show me how he can adjust the settings so that it's all vertical. That was great and dandy and we didn't expect any issues. He's done it before and it really isn't doing much to the computer.

Later, after midnight, he goes to switch everything back to normal. First, the computer acts like the monitor is there but that it can't do anything -- it tries to go into sleep mode or something. Then I suggest he unplug, shut down, plug things back in normally, and power back up. This appears to work.

I was a bit happy then, until we got to the XP loading screen. It's going... and then after, it flashes, then goes black. Nothing comes up, nothing does anything.

And so the three hour saga of last night begins. We restart, we spam F8, we get into safe mode, he disables Nvidia but can't open the application. Nor does his mouse function in safe mode (I know some don't, but it really doesn't help the situation). I've used my laptop to bring up shortcut keys and we're functioning through everything that way. He restarts after disabling Nvidia, an... Read more

Hi guys i've got a problem with my toshiba qosmio g20. I've had it running sweet on xp and i recently upgraded it to vista ultimate lite. It for some reason won't read my graphics card geforce 6600. it says the best driver is already installed for you called standard graphics adapter but thats wrong so i can't play games so im gonna put it back to xp but to do that is a mission. this laptop has raid harddrives so I need to install a driver. so i press f8 or whatever it is(can't remember) to enter the menu thing (this is at the blue screen before you enter the partition menu) it comes up with something like "please enter you manufactuers disk into the A:" but i don't have a floppydrive built in to be able. i've tryed usb floppydrivebut it doesn't read as A: so can use on of them. I've heard about useing nlite to put the drivers in a cd with the rebootstuff but i can't getit to read the drivers too. it was easy enough going to vista as you could insert a flash drive with drivers on it.

Please help me fix this or ill have to take it into a shop and pay them.

Hello forum,
So I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.
I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch.
But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop.
After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?
You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand.
Any help would greatly be helpful.
Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).
While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?
I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.
Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Any help would greatly be appreciated, I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

So. I had a 64gb micro SD with music in for my mp3. Acquired some more music on a usb from my brother (legitimately bought) and though hey! I'll sort all my music out to folders and delete duplicates. You know how it gets. So after this. Thought I'd get a 256gb micro SD and put all my music on this (we're talking 59gb). So started the transfer. Said 10 hours. Yh yh fine. Then at the end. All the folders were there. But we're empty. So formatted it. Moved the folders bit by bit alphabetically. At the end as i safely eject it. It says corrupted and the same folders there with no content. So thought Instead of transferring from my laptop to my micro SD. I'll bypass the laptop and go from my external HDD to the micro SD. Transferred my music to the HDD then over the the micro SD. No problem first stage. And a faster transfer to the micro SD. And yet again when i eject it and insert into my mp3. Only 800 odd songs there instead of 12000 and the folders are again present but empty. Please help. I've wasted hours of my life on this!

I have a computer with ASUS A7V333 MB. The monitor went dead one day and found that I'd neglected to keep the dust cleaned out and found the vid card fan in pretty bad condition. I cleaned everything out inside, then rebooted, but the monitor was not working again, getting "no Signal" on the screen or such. I looked at the vid card fan and noticed it was not moving, so used my finger to nudge it and it started up and the monitor worked. Had to do this every day upon starting up. I found a tech article on how to take apart the fan to clean it and relube the shaft, but was unable to do this. I shopped around for a reasonably cheap card and got a GeForce 6200 LE 512mb AGP 8x card. When I put it in, nothing happened. I've checked the monitor and its plug/pins, as it works in my other computer. I read some other articles about changing something related to the vid card in bios, but I can't get to the screen to do that.

I'm wondering if there are any other ideas of what might be the problem without taking it into the shop, as I am unemployed and very tight on money. Can't get to the internet. I think my internal onboard one is bad do I bought another one. These are the things I have tried. I tried switching out the cable for a new one, I tried putting the cable from my computer from my PC to the modem directly and no go. I reset both my modem and router waiting minute or 2 in between. I tried a new card. I had linksys on the phone trying multiple things like disabling my NIC card, doing a repair, install drivers from their site over internet. I tried pinging my router to no avail.

I am at a loss. That is why I am wondering if I put in my XP cd and try and do a system restore? I don't know if that comes set up to run by default or is that something I manually would of had to of done because I didn't. If so, would re-installing the OS do the trick? Hello- just got a new Radeon 3870. When I installed, I just downloaded the latest ATI drivers instead of using the bundled CDs, as they are usually out of date. Everything works fine, except in my device manager I get an unknown PCI device that I can only assume is the new card. I guess it isn't too big a deal, but I would like to make windows recognize the drivers if possible. Thanks!

Oh and it also claims to have an unknown multimedia controller, but my sound works fine (audigy 4). Maybe its the onboard sound controller?

A:New ATI card issue

Multimedia controllers are usually sound or TV adapters or similar.
Check the display adapters in device manager to see if it is listed.
It may be that the secondary display on the card doesn't have the driver
installed, but I would guess it is something else.
Right click on the uknown device and click properties.
Click the driver tab and click update driver.
Let windows search for a driver.
If it's the video card,it should find it.

Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered.

I get that alot since and it's been a couple of weeks now. Everytime I play a game and the graphics card reaches 70-80 degrees a black screen appears and stays for around 3 seconds and then everything is back to normal. I downloaded riva tuner to make my fan spin faster on my Geforce 9800 Gt. I pretty much need to have the fans running at around 80% to keep my graphics card under 70 degrees. This wouldn't be a problem if it made no noise, but after a few weeks of just hearing that fan, I can't stand it anymore. I opened my case on the side to let in more air and nothing really changes. I used a can of compressed air to remove all the dust and nothing has changed. Is there anything I can do instead of buying a new card? I can provide pictures of the inside of my computer if needed. Help would be greatly appreciated

A:Graphics card issue..

opening the side of the case will attract more dust outside by all the fans you have. And yes please provide pictures. Also after looking on google the 9800Gt has some heat issues. And check this out (You are experiencing TDR's

TDR's can be cause by Driver conflicts on your system or bad drivers, or bad software

They can be caused by USB drivers, Network drivers, ACPI drivers, Adobe drivers, etc
I got this from MS support... they have a list of known problems
of which Nvidia driver could be one of the problems

hardware or software drivers
Corrupt or old DirectX can cause it (update it)
even the software you are running like a game (coded wrong, error in it)...update/patch software.

update your MotherBoard drivers first

Yes, there can be a problem with the driver... Im not discounting that
but most don't have the problem

so you have to look at your system first

A TDR does not mean that a NVida driver is bad)

Lucky last try use river tuner to reduce clocks to 669Mhz

Good luck
(sorry if those dont work)

First when I put it in a slot the resolution was low and everything was huge and when I tried to change the resolution in the control panel it didn't change anything. So I restarted and then it went past the computer loading screen then got stuck on a black screen and it wouldn't get passed it. So I opened up my computer and put it in a different slot, this time it started up.. got to my desktop and everything was still huge but my start bar was gone. Restarted again.. same deal. The card came with a cord, one end hooks up to the card and the other has a yellow head (Looks like those cords you would plug into your TV: Red, Yellow, and White). When I play the video on Firefox the sound is fine. I have an other video capture prog "Replay Video Capture" that normally can capture both video and sound from any source playing on the internet or a local player on the laptop. Replay isn't capturing the audio eather. Also Replay Has on it's panel 2 vertical bars to show audio gain, The bars are flat line during recording. I also have an audio only capture prog called "Moo0 Voice Recorder" that will capture the YouTube audio just fine (Moo0 has a horz type audio display on the panel). The other 2 won't record a peep. I also tried a cold reboot (pulling the ac cord from the laptop and removed the battery). Still no change. I have never had this problem before with YouTube downloader or Replay Video Capture. I have been using both prog's for a long time without any problems. I can't figure out why those 2 capture prog's won't record a peep. I also tried del and reinstalling both prog's. That didn't help eather.

Hi Titan.

Seems like you card misses its driver.
First thing you can try is reinstall the driver (latest one if available, try to get from ASUS download site)
But few question here. Did you do anything last night? Like updating, changing setting, connecting dual monitor, got powerline failure.? Or any event during running.
There is a routine I use to do, every few months I take out the Video card, clean it with dry clothe, and re-seating it firmly to the PCI-e slot.

Does the computer work? If yes, just let it be - it's not a real error. If not, then you have to look in BIOS setup to enable booting from off chip IDE controller. I think HPs have an option for that under "Boot" settings. Disabling the onboard IDE controller altogether wouldn't hurt either.

I'm having a problem with my laptop display. When it's plugged in the screen looks fine, but when I unplug it the display looks dim and sort of faded. Updating my graphics card driver solves the issue, but after I do that I can't open some programs like Skype and itunes. So I have to roll back the driver and deal with he display issues if I want to actually use my programs.

Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Mohterboard: ASUS M3N72-D
Monitor1: Samsung SyncMaster T240HD(DVI or HDMI)
Monitor2: Samsung SyncMaster 2433aw(DVI)
Old Card: HIS Radeon 4870/4850(dont remember which)
New Card: HIS Radeon 5870
OS: Windows 7

-I press the power button on my computer.
-Everything in the case turns on, Including the new graphics card.
-The fan on the card whirs up to a ridiculously high speed, but i do not get a picture on either of my monitors. (no startup screen bios or anything)
-The monitors both sit in standby mode. and the graphics card fan continues to spin at a high speed.

I have gotten everything to start up and run nicely without any issues once or twice, but if I turn the computer off and back on I run into the same issue.

If I reinstall the old card everything works fine of course, and it works fine if I run an HDMI cable to the on-board GPU.

I've tried quite a few things already to resolve the issue but none of them thus far has worked.
-Uninstalling on-board GPU drivers
-Uninstalling old graphics drivers
-Installing the new drivers for new card (did this one of the times it actually worked)
-All manner of cable setups (one monitor(either dvi slot), two monitor, etc.)
-Checked all connections to make sure they are secure.
-Both PCI-E slots on the motherboard.
-Configuring the BIOS to not run the on-board GPU (I'm not sure if i did this correctly, but i went back and set everything back how it was)

My limited knowledge is telling me that for some reason or another t... Read more

Hi, New to the forum. I did a search for cideo card forums and this came up so I hjope i can get my answers here. I hvae an Sappire ATI Radeon Atlantis 9800 pro( with 128 ram) and i have the new drivers instaled, and etc. well last week i revmoed my brothers Steam account with its games(half life 2 and etc) and then started my own steam account. After i did that i noticed what ATI is calling a bursting effect in games only. Now I tried re-seating the card, tried un-installing the drivers and fresh instlaling them, done all mal-ware scans and still have this issue(look at screenshots below). look in order too.

see those silver sparkling stuff as well as the transparency. those are what i'm dealing with. Now if my card is failing wouldn't it affect what i view online or even in non-games like watching a movie? and if not what are some other signs? Or does anyone have any clue what this issue may be? Also If my card is failing can someone suggest a better card that costs a reasonable ammount since money is tight?(this card was bought june 05)

Thank you in advance

Definately artifacts that can be caused by overheating. Does it do this immediately or only after playing for a while?

I'd inspect the card fan to ensure it's spinning full speed, as well as get a can of compressed air and ensure the heatsink isn't packed up with dust and debris.

If all else fails, it's possible you fried some vram on the card from higher temps.

If you do consider upgrading, I'd highly recommend the Sapphire X800GTO as it's 256mb, comes in AGP (be careful not to get the PCI-E version!) and can be had on NewEgg from $125 to $139 (depending on specials/sales, etc.). I've also gotten lucky and gotten full 16-pipe versions from Sapphire where GTO's are only supposed to have 12 (your 9800 is only 8-pipes to give you some measure of comparison).

I seriously doubt this is a NIC issue. My top suspect would be malware.

Howdy TS,
Well, heres the story. It's quite long so you'll have to bare with me.
I'm also not sure if this is posted in the right forums, so correct me if im wrong.
This is an issue that could or could not be related to my new G15 keyboard and is causing graphics issues.
From the top:
Ok, so i bought my new G15 keyboard the other day and absolutely loved it, checked out all the news and upgrades you can do to it etc. and made my plans to do some modding. I am a Counter-Strike: Source player so my natural instinct was to take it for a play of CS. The next day I was playing CS:S when mid-game my image froze, and sort of seperated strangely. The image wasn't the normal picture, instead, you could see the game, but it had taken it into like 5x10 pixel rectangles and changed the colour a bit. The sound started repeating in short intervals, like 0.5 seconds and it'd skip back. After a minute, i tried pressing the play button on my keyboard cos i had Winamp running underneath and i could play the music fine. After about 5-10 seconds of this, my monitor went black and into standby with the No Signal screen. Then i restarted my computer and everything had changed to 1024x768 resolution instead of my normal 1280x1024 [19" LCD]. I fixed my settings and tried playing again when the problem repeated. I normally get about 10 minutes game time in before it happens.
I thought this may be a problem with my new keyboard running with all the LED's and L... Read more

Hi There,

I'm trying to figure out if my sound card has gone bad. I have the red X of death on my speaker icon and the message "no audio output device is installed".

I have no option in the Device Manager for sound, video, and gaming devices.

I have no drivers on the machine and when I try to install the appropriate one, I'm told I have no device to install it on.

I'm assuming that the sound card has just finally died, however due to the frequent problem with Windows updates and the red X of death on the speaker icon, I figured I'd ask one of you more seasoned IT peeps.

Machine is an IBM thinkcentre A70z

I have a realtek 8188ce built into my Toshiba laptop. Initially windows 8 detects it and it works fine, however after a restart (or 2) the device manager will report that the device cannot start or simply wont detect the wireless card at all. I've also downloaded the latest drivers from realtek and the problem persisted.
The only way I can temporarily fix the wireless card is to go into the device manager, restore hidden devices and remove the wireless card. Windows will detect it upon restart and it will work fine again. Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Wireless card issue

Do the drivers claim to be W8 compatible. If not one idea is to run them in W7 compatibility mode when you install them (right click on driver)

Any half-demanding game (which previously my gfx card had no problem with) is now getting lots of errors. The best way for me to describe them is as mono-colour shapes, often protruding from moving objects in the game. For example, I play a lot of Civ and the workers will often develop long spikes out of their arms, stretching right across the screen.

Or sometimes, there are blocks of large pixels of different colours. These issues are annoying but sometimes the issue will make the game unplayable, for example sometimes most of the screen will go black or there will be a huge shape emerging from the scenery. Below is an example from the Medieval II - Total War Demo.

I ran 'HWmonitor' and the max temp for my gfx card was mid-70s which apparently isn't that high.

Someone else mentioned it might be the GPU, and I think that wouldn't be worthwile fixing (?). I've only had the card eighteen months.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to get a new one, because I want to get one in time anyway. I'm already struggling to run some of the newest games (Crysis and the Call of Honour expansion, at least).

I'm rather lazy so if its looking like its not fixable then I might just go ahead and get a new one rather than attempting a series of fixes and/or tests.

Thanks for reading and for all the good advice I know I'll receive.

it should solve u're problem to get a better video card, as the 7900 GT is getting to be an old video card and will not run newer games well.

I am new to upgrading my PC, but I have some experienced friends and I have stumped them all with my issue. I installed a new MSI Twin Frozr III R7850 graphics card in my HP Pavillion Desktop, I have a PCIe x16 2.0 and the card uses 3.0, however from research that should not be my problem. I installed the card and two startups in a row I got 8 1 second beeps. On the third startup however I got nothing, it just started up, no picture and obviously not loading any programing, but no beeping. I have tried the HDMI and DVI ports that the graphics card uses and I still have nothing. My computer, however, runs perfectly fine when I do not have this new graphics card powered. Am I doing something wrong, or is my card just dead?

A:Graphics Card Issue

Well ill go through a few basic things:

First did you hook up both 6 pin connectors?

Second what video card was installed previously, if it was NVidia, did you remove the previous drivers.

Third, have you tried different slots on the motherboard for testing, also does the motherboard have onboard video.

Try these solutions and lets go from there.
