I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is my first post here, so hi to everyone.
I just got an ASUS X401a Notebook and I want to use a flash drive to boot from Linux.
I need to change the sequence in the BIOS so that the flash drive is first choice to boot from.
I have no problem accessing the BIOS utility, but it allows me to alter only some settings. Those in blue colored font I can change those in black font I cannot. What drive to boot from first is in black and not adjustable.
I used command line to work as admin and I also set up a password for admin in the BIOS to access the BIOS utility, but still no go; some things are allowed to be changed some aren't.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi I am currently testing the BCU configuration tool to configure the BIOS. In the file I have these settings BIOSConfig 1.0;;TPM Specification Version 1.2TPM Device Hidden *AvailableTPM State Disable *EnableClear TPM *No On next bootTPM Activation Policy F1 to Boot Allow user to reject *No prompts The issue is that I get a error code 1 and 13 when I apply the settings with the TPM State not recognised as an example.Despite this the setting changes in the BIOS does any one know why. I am running in a Task Sequence. I know I can put overides for the error codes but would prefer not to see these errors at all.

Hi, We have a script using the HP BiOS Utility to change the vtx setting but we are currently experiencing problems. This script has been developped by a 3rd party and its been succesfully tested on multiple HP Models. In our environment, we are using the following HP workstations:HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFFHP Compaq 8200 Elite SFFHP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF By default, our BIOS doesn't have any password, the script will run the HP BIOS Utility with admin privilege, add a temporary password, enable the Vtx setting and remove the password. On the next reboot, we will run our software that needs vtx enable but the program will not see  that vtx is enable. If we enter the BIOS manually,  the Vtx setting will be enable, the only way that the software will recognize that vtx is enable is if we do another change to the BIOS and save that change.  It seems like Windows is not seeing the change that the BIOS utility did.  The intriging part is that on some machines, the script will work and the software will see the change. We have run the script numerous times, on multiple machines and on our different models but we can determine any patern and identify why it sometimes work. I was wondering if this is a known issue and if anyone already encoutered this. Thank you,

Recently my organisation deployed ~500 X360 G2 devices which unfortunately have the bright F5 key issue.  This can be resolved by changing the bios setting on each device, however I am looking for a way to deploy this setting over the network to all devices.  I have attempted to use the HP Bios Configuration Utility, however it does not appear to support this setting.  Is there any other way I could deploy this setting?

Hi all, I'm currently looking into getting bitlocker enabled on our company devices - I need to enable the TPM chips and ideally I want to do that without going through every system and changing it manually. I've looked at the config utility Lenovo offer and the E560 isn't in the supported list, and when running WMI scripts, no output is obtained. Does anyone know a way this might be possible as it's going to be very time consuming changing this manually for everyone! Thanks in advance.

I am unable to use the BCU to read or set the BIOS for a particular operating system image.  This is not hardware dependent, but is instead consistent under a particular software setup; if I reimage the computer with a different image, I am able to work with the BCU without issue. The image in question is not running antivirus, and is a reasonably "vanilla" Win7x86 build.  When I run: biosconfigutility /get I see the following: <BIOSCONFIG Version="" Computername="ZT-ACC1004E8E63" Date="2014/11/18" T

<SUCCESS msg="Successfully read BIOS config." />
<Information msg="BCU return value" real="0" translated="0" />
</BIOSCONFIG>It appears to read the BIOS, but does not display any of the settings in the <GETCONFIG></GETCONFIG> section. Any pointers for troubleshooting would be appreciated.  I have been using the latest version of the BCU, and tested using the same image on both an HP 6200 Pro SFF and an HP 6300 Pro SFF with no success.

Or, even stranger, the boot order seems to change but when the target computer is rebooted, the boot order reverts to what it was originally.  I threw a lot of rocks at this but none have hit anything yet.  Thanks for suggestions.

I am guessing that something quite wrong was done in 2.20 (and it persists into 2.21). There was no such errant behavior with 2.19, as I've confirmed by reinstalling 2.19.  Works perfectly and boots promptly and the BIOS Setup utility works lickity-split with 2.19, just like it always has.  But with the install of 2.20 the behavior changed drastically.
Looking at the README for BIOS 2.20 this definitely seems like the culprit:
[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where fan might rotated with max speed due to not reading CPU   temperature correctly.- Fixed an issue where system might not boot to OS when attached an external monitor   and its USB3 devices.- Fixed an issue where network boot might happened at reboot after resume from suspend   by Wake On LAN.
At first I thought I had blown the BIOS update, since my screen was simply black for what seemed like 1-2 minutes after displaying the Lenovo logo and "press ENTER to interrupt" message.  I pressed ENTER repeatedly but nothing happened, for a long time.  Eventually, the hard drive activity LED on the P70 started flashing, and seemingly almost 2 minutes later, the machine came to life and boot process continued normally.
Then, once I entered the BIOS, I used the right-arrow key to navigate through the tabs.  No problem until I got to the Security tab and then pressed right-arrow one more time to navigate into the Boot tab... and it hung!  Didn't go ri... Read more

Hi dear!

I got an old computer that I used for perhaps one year ago, and what I did to destroy it was to delete the language pack somehow. Now I would like to try to fix it, as I actually need it. But I do have some issues, maybe someone of you guys know. I can start it up all the way to where I choose between safe mode, and so on - then I get the blue screen that lasts the whole 2 seconds, amazingly enough.

I have Windows 7 Installation, that's all I have. When I start up my PC also says two fix the problem:
1 Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2 Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3 Click "Repair your computer".

Had this been as simple as the system claims, I would have been fixing it myself asap. The problem is that when I put the CD, restart the pc is also nothing happens. So I've searched up a bit, where you can do so in a way pc starts via cd so I can install windows 7 The problem is when I enter the BIOS I can choose between "Information, Main, Security, Boot and Exit ". When I go to BOOT it says "Boot priority order" and that's the list:

I can not do anything here, no matter what I press. It's sort of gray text, what I can do about is completely black. So it turns out that they are locked. What should I do ..

Have also tried ALT + F10, the Acer eRecov... Read more

I made a clean installation and downloaded necessary drivers from Lenovo's support site.
It has been a long time since I have had this laptop, so I decided to update the BIOS as well.
The updated BIOS version is B0CNA0WW. I'm uncertain of my previous version, most likely the version that the laptop was shipped with, as this is the first time I updated my BIOS.
Is it possible to revert to previous BIOS version without any further problems?
And if not, how can I get rid of the utterly displeasing BIOS splash in the boot? Or maybe change the splash image?
Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

I errantly switched the BIOS setting from Raid-AHCI to IEDI while attempting to allow my system to recognize a newly installed SSD.  The plan was to clone my HDD to the SSD as the boot drive, but it wasn't seen in windows.  Initially, was able to see it in the BIOS settings.  Long story short, I switched from Raid-AHCI to IEDI and have not been able to boot the PC since.  On boot, the pc turns on and the fans for the power supply and NVIDIA cards spin, but there is nothing visual taking place on the monitor. It's as if the devices are getting power, but the motherboard doesn't know they are there.  Tried clearing the CMOS (unplugged, took out CMOS battery, held reset button) and that didn't seem to make a difference.  There is supposed to be a "recovery" jumper on the MB (E15), but the pins seem to be missing on my motherboard, so that's not an option.  I'm pretty sure that if I can get the MB back to Raid-AHCI mode, it should respond for me again.  Unfortunately, without access to the BIOS on boot, I have no idea how to do that.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks in advance.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hi all hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have been given a HP 650 notebook and the BIOS is in Turkish. I have tried flashing the bios with the latest version but cant seem to change it to English anyone know how to do this? Cheers

A:BIOS language

Hi, Try the following. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu, then select f10 to enter the Bios Menu.  Select the System Configuration tab ( this should be 1 tab in from the rightmost tab ).  The first entry highlighted should be Language, so just hit enter, then scroll down to English using the arrow keys and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite with Insyde H2O bios. It says to use F2 for setup and F12 for boot manager.

I've tried all the function keys, as well as esc and del and they only get me to Windows Boot Manager. (This includes F2.)

The machine has Vista that stops loading when it gets to the network drivers. Could a corrupt BIOS be the cause? If I download a new BIOS can I install it from the command prompt?

If the BIOS is still OK are there other ways to get into setup?

(Meanwhile F2 works just fine on my Dell Lattitude)

A:Can't get into BIOS setup utility

Try using a USB keyboard...

"Could a corrupt BIOS be the cause?"

I don't think you would get that far in the boot process if the bios were corrupt

I need to enter bios, not the "HP setup utility", because in the utility there are no settings for SATA controller. I need to change it to IDE, but in the utility there is no option for that. How do i do it?

A:I need BIOS, not HP Setup Utility

Hi: Why do you need to change the setting to IDE? A BIOS update won't add that feature anyway. If you are trying to reinstall XP and get the blue screen stop error, simply add the SATA AHCI drivers. See this guide below.  Read the Intel section and then read the downloadable document for how to slipstream all of the sata drivers. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-... I have zipped up and attached the drivers you need to slipstream below...
