Automate downloads and email

Q: Automate downloads and email

Hi everyone,

I currently have a server setup with 1 desktop and 2 laptops connected to it. The server stores all of our media etc on it.

What I would like to do is have it setup so that when a user downloads a file to the server the user name and file name are extracted and when the download completes the user who requested it is sent an email.

in steps its

1. file moved to folderA user name and file name recorded

2. file moved to processing folder and downloaded

3. file moved to completed folder and user emailed file name and short message
I think steps 1 and 2 could be completed with a batch im just unsure how to do it and as for step 3 i think i would need some sort of watcher or something?

any help would be great! cheers!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Don't think you can do this natively. You would need 3rd party software to accomplish this.

Hello All,

I am basically trying build a script to autodownload a folder (with multiple files) from a FTP site to my local hard drive. I am using windows XP and I am using CuteFTP software.

The automation should work in a way that - as soon as someone post a folder/file, the files should be copied (autodownloaded) to my local harddrive.

Can this be done by a scripts? if so, please let me know the procedure to follow as i am very new to this field. but i love to work and explore as much as i can.

is there a way that i can get an email notification as soon as file has been copied to my local hard drive?

Please help.

My email just started downloading all my mail that I already received since Feb 2-6 up untill now. So today I have 1138 emails trying to download. But I have already downloaded them. If I close Outlook and re-open it downloads the same emails it just downloaded. I have not waited for it to download all 1138 emails. But know I have 4 x the same emails since Feb 2. I have made sure the setting to keep emails on the server is unchecked. What else can this be? Hope this makes since.

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

I have been having the following problem for several weeks and nothing done so far seems to help.

I use Yahoo mail as my primary non-work email provider. I only have this problem when using Yahoo mail, not any other email applications and my computer works fine other than this. When I recieve emails that have attachments, no matter what type; doc, pdf, jpeg, they never finish downloading. When I open the email everything pops up smoothly, I click the link to open the attachment, then a window pops up with a revolving green arrow to check for viruses, after several seconds it finishes and a button pops up that says "download file" so I click the button and then the windows download screen pops up asking me to save, open, or cancel. I have the problem if I click save or open either way. Once I choose an option the next window pops up with the little earth and a file folder and the paper flipping between the two. Nothing else comes up in the window. I am used to seeing the download speed and the estimated time remaining but it never shows and the download never completes. Sometimes I can download one or two things and then this occurs and its like my computer has gone into slow-mo and I have to force reboot in order to do anything.

I have tried several different things to solve this problem. My virus software and firewall are up to date and running smoothly. My computer works like a dream until this happens. Other internet sites function fine and my download and upl... Read more

A:Downloads from email attachments never finish

I know this is a super long post but I tried to include everything. The guts of my problem is that attachment downloads from yahoo mail never finish. And I mean never, not just slow, never. I never recieved any replies but I seriously need help.

Is the problem likely in my router if no virus can be found? I've used every anti-virus, anti-spy, anti-rootkit tool available, free and paid, nothing found. I don't have trouble with my other computers attached to the same router. I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

As of yesterday my computer has completely stopped downloading any file. That is, it will not download a PDF from my uni online library, it will not open an attachment word doc from facebook, it will not open an attached doc from gmail or yahoo. Obviously I must have done something, but I have no idea what it is.I am connecting to the internet just fine, so it's not that. Also, I keep trying to save my word doc for uni and it keeps crashing and giving me a warning that it can't be found (but then opens it, but often says not responding when I try and save and I lose everything I've been working on). I really need to be able to fix this. HELP PLEASE

We are running Outlook 2003 in XP SP2 Home Edition. My wife and I each have our own user name, etc.

We have 3 POP email accounts: Hers, Mine and Ours, with different usernames and passwords, all with the same ISP (Comcast.net). I have set up her Outlook account to receive Hers and Ours, with instructions to leave a copy of Our messages on the server for 10 days. Of course, I have set up mine to download Mine and Ours, leaving Ours on the server 10 days. That way, theoretically, I'll see all my email and our email, she'll see all our email and her email, unless one or the other of us doesn't get on for 10 days (highly unlikely...10 hours maybe).

Mine works fine. But she keeps getting stuff like the CERT reports, stuff from The Tech Guy, reviews from ZD Net and other stuff she doesn't want to wade through. When she opens one, at the top it is clearly addressed to me, not her or us. When she pulls down Tools and selects Email accounts, Outlook shows her only two: Hers and Ours. Microsoft KB search reveals nothing; ditto Comcast.net Help search.

Any clues? How come she can't stop getting mail for an account which is not listed in Outlook, or even in Start/Control Panel/Mail/Profiles/Accounts?

Thanx for any suggestions...

When I get new mesages in my gmail account, which I access through OE6, it says it's downloading 984 or 677 or 820 messages. But they are my own old emails from one specific storage folder (containing last year's mail).
If I stop the download and try again - it just raises the number of old messages it plans to pour in.
Can I stop this crazy downloading?!

Edit 3:40pm
Now it's getting worse. A password authentication box has started popping up when I try to retrieve mail. It wants the password "for this server," which would be gmail, I assume. But it's already displaying that information in the box. I typed in my gmail password, got the box over & over. The password is dots of course, but I retyped it about 20 times. The box that says "Remember Password" is grayed out. But there was a checkmark in it.

Hi marie500

Have you tried reapplying your POP settings in Gmail to be effective from todays date?
Use: Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on

Do you plan on keeping your old messages on GMail's server? If not, delete them from Gmail's server, then have Outlook Express download your messages.

Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

This just started today.... everything I download from AOL email is not being recognized as valid images. If I download a jpg and open it, the edit screen is empty. If I go to Windows Explorer, there is a file there, but the image will not display and if I click to open, it says no preview. PSP files can't be seen and/or recognized as a valid image file either. AOL says this is a Windows error.

Last week I had a problem with not being able to see, read, respond to or download from any of my aol emails. AOL says I had a corrupt file in my PFC. I reinstalled AOL without transferring any of my back up file and have not had any reoccuring problems until this today.

I've run McAfee, Spybot and AdAware and deleted everything that showed up. And.... even though I have McAfee Privacy Firewall, Panda Antivirus Platinum, and a LinkSys Router on at all times, all these 'things' keep getting through on my computer.

Can someone please help??

I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

Any file downloaded from the internet is immediately deleted, regardless of the browser used (Chrome, Firefox, IE9), regardless of whether or not antivirus software is installed (currently AVG 2013 but this has happened with previous versions of AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials), and regardless whether or not Windows Firewall is turned on. Internet Explorer reports that the download in question contained a virus and was deleted. I've run AVG from a rescue disk and found the computer to be uninfected.

Also tried downloading from Safe Mode with Networking and from a new User Account. Will try clean boot now.

Clean boot didn't work either.

A:Downloads from internet including email attachments immediately deleted

If you are having problems with the files deleting immediately on download you might want to download Malwarebytes from another computer to a USB drive or CD and then transfer it to the possibly infected system. You can use these instructions for downloading and running Malwarebytes...

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Right-click and Run as Administrator mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan as shown below.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

The log can also be found here:
Windows 2000 & Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs
Windows Vista & Win7:

I want to know how can i automate the running process of Deep Care.

I have already searched the folder, but it doesn't have the Deep Care shortcut. I have to run ASC 4 and from the main menu open Deep Care, and then select Scan and Repair. I wanted a shortcut that goes to Scan and Repair, and to end itself when its finished. I tried as a command line /AUTO, /SILENT and /QUIET but nothing.

Same thing goes for tuneup. I know how to do it, but i have to run a task directly from CMD. How do i run a task from task scheduler manually, from CMD?

Also, the argument to run tuneup automatic is $(Arg0) . how do i put that in the shortcut? i tried "filepath" /$(Arg0) but nothing.

A:How to Automate ASC 4?

I managed to discover the auto care thing, all you have to do is add a parameter with /autorun and all works fine.
But now the tuneup solution is killing me. The $(Arg0) thing is killing me. only solution would be to manually run the task from CMD. How do i do that?

I have 5 workbooks which are formatted identically (workbooks are updated by users). In the cell range A19:AW19 the data inputted by the users (from cell ref A20 down) is collated.

I also have a summary workbook which is also formatted the same. All of the workbooks contain 12 worksheets (months of the year)

What I need to do each month is summarize the data from the 5 workbooks in the cell range A19:AW19.

"January 16" worksheet cell ref C4 within the 5 workbooks contains the following data

Workbook 1 150
Workbook 2 99
Workbook 3 78
Workbook 4 125
Workbook 5 110

What I need to do is add these figures together and have the total (562) show in my summary workbook - "January 16" worksheet cell ref C4.

I have several PCs that I'd love to have scan automatically every week. The problem is this- in the past probably year or so, I've gotten almost no use out of any product but ComboFix. It seems that Spybot and Malwarebytes pretty much pick up cookies and maybe something else here or there, whereas if a PC has a problem- it seems ComboFix is almost always the cure. In all honesty- I haven't had a PC in at least the last year that once ComboFix ran, that the other two did any good. I still do it (for what reason I do not know), but it seems kinda pointless. Maybe I'm the exception and not the norm, but that's honestly been my experience.

However- from what I've read on the internet, automating a run of ComboFix is a bad idea? I guess what I'm trying to do is make sure I can keep these PCs clean without having to touch them once a month, quarter, etc.

So I'm looking for suggestions from some folks with experiences beyond my own. How would you suggest creating a process (scheduled task) on a PC that performed routine scans and disinfected or notified someone of any it found?

I'm using a Hauppage TV tuner card and am going to set it up on Windows Media Center. I know everything is going to go off without a hitch but it hit me the other day...."If this is like a VCR, how am I going to schedule turning my machine off and on?"
I mean Say for a show I want to record three days from now, I don't want to just leave it on all the time. If anything I may keep it in Hibernate or standby all the time, but still I'm not sure how I would "wake it up" to record something.

I did look into all the options in the BIOS but it's actually a confusing mix of options that none of which seem to have anything to really do with turning the PC on and a certain time. I also messed with one piece of software already called "Auto PowerOn And Off" and it didn't do anything. I still have a few others to try, but I'm not even sure if this is possible to do. I've also heard that I may be able to go through the task scheduler, but I'm unaware how to set that up.

Well, for no reason I can discern. See if anyone out there can crack this problem. I've searched the forums, and came up empty as far as finding an exact match of the problem.

The problem: Downloading EXE files and what I assume are EXE files (Flash Viewer update, Java update, etc.) stops after a short amount of progress. There's no warning message, no error message, no clue at all given by the OS; the progress bar just...stops. It waits patiently, even if I cannot. It'll stay there all day if I let it.

Replication: It's inconsistent in that some EXEs do download just fine, but consistent in that the same EXE files always freeze. Consequently, I don't have the latest Java updates, Flash Viewer updates, and more, and I can't download Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live Messenger. The latest problem: I can't play my new game, Company of Heroes, until the in-game patch downloader installs the latest patch. Problem is, it freezes.

System configs: This happens on both of my Vista Ultimate 32-bit machines at home: one a home-built desktop, one a Gateway laptop. The problem files, updates, and circumstances are identical between the two machines, so please no "homebuilt-bashing" or "Gateway-bashing" in regards to this issue. Seriously, the only things in common between these two machines are (1) I'm the user (2) the OS (3) same network. Desktop is cabled Ethernet, laptop is wireless 802.11g. I'd list all the memory, processors, hard drives, etc. here, except si... Read more

A:EXE downloads and plugin downloads stop for no reason

Hi Akambe and welcome to a world where there are 90% men.

I think I had the same problem some years ago. I'm not sure if this will do any good, but it's better than nothing.

Click on Accessories and RUN and type this sfc /scannow
This will repair windows or replace either corrupt or missing files.
Have the OS DVD in drive while doing this.

Also on RUN type msconfig and on the StartUp tab disable things you don't want starting up. Try disabling everything and see if there's any difference. Something could be conflicting with other applications.

Other things you can do is to clean your HDD with ccleaner.
Enable Advanced options while doing so which will eliminate a lot of garbage from your PC. It's all safe to do so.

A:Downloads FireFox only downloads partial files?!

It could just be host server related.

I had a similar problem with a NASA Mars panorama download. Half a day later, I tried again and there were changes to what was offered and the download was completed.

Hi All,
I want to automate the download process in the dialog box. Instead of having to scroll or wheel the mouse down the bottom button (?), to my favorite selection "User Defined", then up to the next button(?), the form type which I want to be "Text", how can I change these parameters so I don't have to do this endlessly?
Thanks for any help you can give.

A:I want to automate the download process

You can use AutoHotkey to send a series of keystrokes and/or mouse clicks.

Download the program, read through the Quick-start Tutorial and write a few simple scripts to get an idea on how it works.

Hi Everyone,

I know how to Schedule Windows XP to automatically take a backup of specific files at specific times

E.g. my computer will automatically take a windows backup of my files (Files that I specify) on the first Friday of every month at 7:00PM.

I also know how to then archive these files into volumes of DVD size parts and add a password to it.

I would now like to schedule WinRAR to automatically archive (in .RAR format) this windows backup at a specific time later (e.g. 4 hours later.... so 11:00PM) so that I do not have to do this manually, the way I would like the archive to work is to archive them into volumes of DVD size parts and to set a password on it just like I have stated above....The main problem I face is I do not know how to Schedule this task

Any Help Will Be Much Appreciated

A:Automate WinRAR Archiving

Just a quick note:

I can get Windows Scheduler to automatically start WinRAR at a specific time on a specific date e.g. my computer will automatically start WinRAR on the first Friday of every month at 11:00PM........ BUT this only opens WinRAR, I cannot/Don't know how to specify which files to archive and to tell it to archive it into DVD size volumes with a password protection on it.

Once Again Thanks For Any Help!!

I install software, select options and install - pausing along the way to select more options during the install

Is there anyway to capture all of the settings and options chosen and automate the install without doing it all over again every time you install?

I will ONLY be installing on the SAME PC - so all configurations, like OS and anything else will always be the same

I'm looking for a generic solution - something I can apply to multiple software

Try AutoHotkey, click on "Installer for AutoHotkey Basic".

Using keystrokes instead of mouse clicks will be more reliable. For most dialog boxes you can tab through the options and use a + (plus sign) to put a check in a box and a - (minus sign) to remove it.

I'm using XP Pro w/dialup. Is it possible to use Scheduler to automatically connect to the internet and then disconnect after a certain amount of time or will I need a 3rd party macro program to do that?
