I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, What is your laptop ? Does it have docking port and use a PROPER docking station ? If YES for both then yes, docking station will changer the battery on laptop, Normal USB port replicators (vendors also call them as docking startions) won't charge battery on laptop. Regards.

My HP Quickdock station is not charging my laptop and I've had to connect the AC adapter to the laptop since the battery went down to 40% yesterday. Is there a fix short of replacing it? I run a small business and can't afford to have these issues!

A:Docking station won't charge laptop

If I were you, I would take it back. If it's plugged in properly and not charging, I'd say it's a hardware fault with the actual HP quickbook station.

I have an HP Compaq nc8430 laptop running Windows 7 attached to an HP docking station HSTNN-1X01-444706-1.
The battery in the laptop will not charge when it is in the docking station, but will charge when I pull it out of the docking station and plug the AC adaptor directly into the laptop itself. All other functions in the docking station work normally except for the battery charging function.
I have also tried it in a 2nd docking station with the same results, so believe the problem is in the laptop and not the docking station.
HELP!

A:HP Docking Station won't charge laptop

It may be the power adapter.
I do know that Dells do this sort of thing where they won't both run and charge in a docking station if the power brick is not a 90Watt one. Use a 70watt one and it complains.

Check that the adapter is powerful enough.

I have a HP Compaq 6510b laptop attached to a HP docking station with Dual-link DVI (product # EN488AA, S/N CNU830Y0NH). The laptop power adapter quit ages ago, the docking station adapter (HP part # 384023-001) will fit both laptop and docking station.

I was trying to identify the old adapter and briefly plugged it into the laptop while the laptop was attached to the docking station. There was no power to the old adapter. The laptop switched to battery power and will not charge on the docking station. I can plug the adapter into the laptop and it will charge and run off the adapter. The problem is my network connections do not work through the docking station if it is not plugged in. Do I need a new docking station or is there an easier fix?

I am on my 3rd docking station.
The first two reported that my power supply was suppose to be 180w but apparently only 130w was being passed.
My current one only shows 60W.
I have all the BIOS updates for my 7510 and I have followed the procedure for WD15 and it too has the latest updates/drivers and yet, it still will not charge my laptop and I need to also connect my external power supply for it to charge.
Does anyone have this working?  Is it suppose to actually charge?  Should I return and try yet a 4th docking station?

At my work, I have a laptop that is hooked to a docking station. I've only been here for a little while, so yesterday was the second time that I undocked it. The first time, I did not use a power cord when I undocked it. It worked fine when out of the station. I used a power cord the second time. Before I left work, I put it back in the docking station, and I left. This morning, the laptop wouldn't start (in the docking station). I removed it from the station and tried to start it without the station. It still wouldn't start. Finally, I used the power cord and it began charging and would also start. After a while, I tried putting it back in the docking station, but it still would not charge. So right now, I am undocked and charging with the power cord.

Can anyone help me with this?

also, everything else is in working order when plugged into the docking station. The mouse, keyboard, internet, and monitor work fine. The only problem is the charging.

Is there any power management setting i need to look into? I checked on Lenovo Setting App and then click on Power where it shows 95% Charged. When i scroll further down i noticed that my threshold hoption is OFF so should i assume that 95% is Lenovo factory setting or it has to do with my WIndow 10? Please advice.

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:

Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

A:Satellite Click 2 Pro P30W-B - Docking station battery doesn't charge

Hmm… if this issue didn’t appear from first day of purchase, then the battery docking issue might be related to battery fault.
In such case you will need to contact the service to fix it.

But just one question: is your BIOS up to date?
Check the update within the service station and in case of available new BIOS version; try to update the BIOS to the latest state.

There is only one way (assuming you don't make the things) to test this.

Hook up the laptop to another one (or hook up someone elses laptop to yours) - there is no other way to test something like this.

Hi folks, I am looking for a cheap laptop with a docking station for my parents. They are nearly 80 years old. They also want/need a keyboard, a bigger screen and a mouse (they cannot work for a longer time just with the laptop screen). So I think the best would be, that they can put the laptop into the docking station and work. They also could take it out and use it somewhere else.It just should be very easy to handle and it should be an about 15'' monitor. They don't need a power machine (they only do internet, writing letters and watching photos etc., so nothing special). My question is which HP laptop does have a docking port and which station fits with it.I saw the "HP 250 G5"  which is an approximate specification that would fit. Could you list one or two with the docking station that matches to it? Thank you in advance for your hjelp.

The PC in question is a Dell Latitude D620. When off the docking station, the screen display is normal, however when it's hot docked, or cold booted from the dock, the screen displays only 1/4 of the screen, however it shows the entire image. It's hard to put into words for me, it's displaying the entire desktop, same resolution, however the image its self is maybe 4 inches. I did fix this problem on my laptop by updating drivers, however I would have to explain this process over the phone as I am a support guy, and if it doesn't work, then I'm back to the beginning. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I the only one with the off the wall calls..

Hello. I have a Thinkpad T470 and it worked fine for a few weeks. Just today I received my docking station for it and plugged it in for use with my external monitor. Everything was going great until I noticed that the battery, while it said "charging", was still losing percentage in battery. I undocked it, which rebooted the laptop, which I thought was weird. At this point I noticed that every time I docked or undocked the laptop, it caused the laptop to reboot. I had a T420 with a docking station and that never happened before. When I plugged the laptop in directly, I noticed it no longer charges. If I plug the cord directly into the laptop, it's like nothing is plugged in. If I put the laptop back in the dock, it will say it's charging, but it's not. The battery lost all its charge, and now my laptop no longer boots. I went through tech support and they had me reset my battery and all that and nothing worked. I even tried a new power cord. My question is: 1) why did my dock cause my laptop to reboot every time I docked/undocked it?2) Could the dock really cause my laptop to completely stop charging? It's a 40A1 docking station. I am using a genuine 20V adapter with it. The FRU is FRU 04W3948. I am getting a replacement T470 but I am worried I am going to ruin that one too and would really appreciate some advice. Thank you!

I have an IBM ThinkPad T22 laptop and I recently was given an IBM Thinkpad Docking station with port replicator and ultrabay 2000 slot (2631 20U). It also has a half-size (half height) PCI slot in it.

My graphics card in the T22 is about crap and I really don't need to get a new laptop for what I'm doing right now. But I would like to be able to have better graphics if the opportunity arose.

My question is, if I was to put a new upgraded graphics card into the PCI card slot of the Docking station, would my laptop recognize the new graphics card and run off of it, or is this impossible with laptops?

I know this is a detailed post but I figured someone out there may have an answer.

Thanks,
Dave

A:IBM Laptop Docking Station PCI Slot

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot

In a word (YES)

Info SOURCE
PCI Slot

Note this is a Half Height, or 'low profile' slot. Separate brackets are required for low profile PCI cards. Normal cards will not fit.

Many use the half-size PCI slot for peripherals like secondary video cards, TV tuners, audio cards, etc. This is considered by many to be the highlight of the Dock II, and is a feature that few other docks have. The Dock II does not support AGP or PCI Express. The Ultrabay 2000 slot can be used to connect other IBM peripherals, such as second hard disks or CD/DVD drives. Potential owners of the Dock II are often concerned about compatibility and recommendations of video cards. See the compatible video cardsClick to expand...

I'm looking for a laptop that will snap into a docking station. I haven't been very successful so far. What I find primarily are docking stations that plug into a laptop's USB port. The two problems that I have with these are that they generally don't seem to do video well, and they generally don't let you close the laptop, which leaves a clumsy setup for staff as they use it. I have a few Targus docking stations, but they're really not being used much. I'd like to simply replace desktops with the docking stations, and it seems that finding a laptop with a snap-in bottom would be ideal.

Any good recommendations for this?

Thanks.

Hey all-

I have a Dell Latitude D800 that I use with a docking station. Everything has been working but occasionally when I put the laptop into the docking station and power up, the external monitor will not come on unless I open the lid of my laptop. When I close the lid of my laptop, the system goes to standby and the external monitor goes out. I went into the power options and changed the option for when the laptop is closed to "Do Nothing". I would like to be be able to keep it on Standby like it had been working originally. Any ideas why this may be occurring?

A:Problem with Laptop and Docking Station

standby mode is known to cause system issues (instability, currupt files, screwed up settings). I wouldn't use standby anymore if I were you.

To get your old settings back in order, run system restore and choose a restore point prior to when the issue started happening. (then you should disable standby mode so that that doesn't happen again)

also... check your display settings, there may be an option for primary monitor default when docked.

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Hi. I am not a computer tech, so pardon my lack of pc language. I have a Dell Studio, running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit OS). I have a docking station that I plug into with a monitor, keyboard, etc. For the past few months, I have not used the docking station, but this past weekend, I plugged my laptop into the docking station. I got a request for some sort of update (sorry I don't remember what for, but think it had something to do with video/monitor maybe). I went through the motions, and I think the update failed to install. I rebooted the system, and it runs fine. The only problem I encounter is when I play Runescape online, my laptop provides no warnings, and it just shuts itself off after about 15 minutes of play time. I have tried using different internet browsers (Firefox and Google Chrome) and that does not seem to help. I unplugged the laptop, and played RS and I had no problems, so I feel that the issue is with the docking station or monitor. I have no idea how to proceed in attempting to fix this issue. Please help.

The Kensington universal notebook docking station is compatible with Asus, and all major brands in fact, I'd check that out...

There's a review of an admittedly slightly older version (from 2009) here, but it wins a best buy award and gets a very good write-up.

Certainly well worth considering. Hope that helps somewhat...

I am running XP on my Dell Laptop. When it is in the docking station, the CPU runs at 100%. I am running Norton and Spybot. I am unable to determine what is causing the issue. If I take the laptop out of the docking station or do not have the power cord plugged in, the laptop runs great. Please help me.

A:Dell Laptop runs at 100% when in docking station

Can you precisely identify the process hogging that CPU?

You could download and run the free Process Explorer. You'll be able to precisely identify the culprit. By right-clicking on the process showing high CPU and selecting Properties… > Threads tab, you'll be able to pinpoint the thread that's hogging CPU within the process. You'll need to slide the bar left of CSwitch Delta in order to see the CPU values.

Process Explorer doesn't require any installation. Simply run the executable file once downloaded. Then, configure the Process Explorer window to your liking. You can even replace the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) by clicking on Options > Replace Task Manager. You'll get a lot more features and details than with the Task Manager.

To determine which Process might be hogging CPU, click on the little graphs located at the top right of the window. A new window with four graphs will open, the first one being CPU. Click inside the window and press the spacebar to freeze the display. This will make it easier to hover your mouse cursor over the CPU peaks in order to read which process(es) is/are creating them.

I am getting a Dell Inspiron for a new job. I am now debating whether or not to get a new personal desktop for use at home or to somehow make the new Dell the "centerpiece" of a home configuration consisting of stand-alone hard-drive, DVD burner, printer, and monitor connected to either a docking station or just plugged to a powered hub that connects to the laptop. What would be some of the technical pluses or minuses of that setup? Thus would be under XP, and I think I could create two users, Jekyll and Hyde, one for at-home and one for at-work so the system would recognize or not recognize the peripheral configuration. Am I correct in this? Thanks for your thoughts.

A:Pros and cons of using laptop + docking station

Well, there's almost no technical pluses as except for not having save your print jobs to disk, or disconnecting and reconnecting your printer if you have the desktop and the laptop + docking station. It really depends on what you're going to be doing with it. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 and it can play all of today's current games, but it can't play them as well as my gaming rig. The only Dell notebook that could truly even compare with a well equipped desktop is a maxxed out Inspiron 9100 (that's what they're calling the XPS isn't it), and even then, you can't overclock, install as much new hardware, and all that other fun stuff. If you're not going to be doing much gaming or graphics intensive apps, I'd say that a laptop plus docking station should do just fine. After all, I went for months with mine before building my gaming rig, and only then because it was in the shop!

I recently acquired a Vaio laptop along with the docking station. I have little experience with laptops and was wondering if it would be bad for the battery to just leave the laptop plugged into the docking station when I don't need it mobile?

Thanks,

When I start my laptop or login to my laptop in docking station, the laptop screen often remains black. Appearantly it is sending the screen signal to the tv only. The tv is connected with an active 4k display port to hdmi adapter to the docking station. Windows key + p does not help. When taking the laptop out of the docking station, or, when disconnecting the display port plug from the docking station, there is no issue. Is there a way to set this up ensuring that the laptop always shows at least its own screen? I use the tv connection less often. I prefer not to have to plug in the display port for use. many thanks for your help!

My wife has an HP docking station that allows all the cables and such to be plugged in to that, instead of into the various outlets around the laptop. Sure is nice to be able to plug everything into one central location. However, her laptop was stolen. I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop and am wondering if it will work.

Anyone out there absolutely certain it would work? Obviously, unless I'm absolutely certain it won't fry my system I'm not going to try it.

Thanks.

A:Will HP docking station work with Dell laptop?

Unless for some amazing coincidence the connections on the back of the two computers are identical, a docking station for one manufacturer's computer won't work on another.

Will a HP ZBook 15 G2 Laptop with a A7E38UT#ABA 230W Advanced Docking Station run two Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz using both DisplayPorts on the Docking Station? I am currently running a HP ZBook 15 G2 Laptop using the A7E34AA#ABA Docking Station running two Samsung UHD UE850 Monitors at 4K.I am using the DisplayPort on the A7E34AA#ABA Docking Station to run one of the Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz.I am using a StarTech USB to DisplayPort adapter to provide a second DisplayPort. The adapter driven monitor will only refresh at 30 Hz and looks terrible compared to the 60 Hz monitor.  I can use the mini DisplayPort on the laptop to drive the second Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz, but I am afraid the laptop mini DisplayPort physical port will wear out quickly and give me trouble quickly because I remove laptop from the port at least daily. Can the A7E38UT#ABA 230W Advanced Docking Station run two Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz using both DisplayPorts on the Docking Station?Thank you.Bill

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 15R and want to use it to replace my desktop. There are so many docking stations and each review points out reasons to get that one. What is the best one with enough ports to support a monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, subwoofer with speakers, a printer with at least one open for camera, external hard drive, etc.?

Trying to find a docking station - have done a "Pavilion 17-g100 series search", I have also tried to locate on HP Support page [but I don't see this model or series listed on any of their docking stations...in fact they don;t even mention "Pavilion", only Elitebook, etc]. I'd love to find the correct docking station for this laptop which I've just purchased.

A:Which docking station for HP Pavilion 17-g136nr 17.3" Laptop...

Hi, Your machine does not have docking port therefore no docking station for it. You can use ANY (yes any) USB port replicator (vendors also call them as docking stations). Now up to you to choose depending on how do you wish to connect to it. For example: you need 2 monitors, 6 USB ports .... and you can find one for your needs. Hello, I am starting a new job where I will b working from home. Before my orientation, I purchased two monitors for my home office. I am currently at my orientation for this week and was just provided my work laptop (ThinkPad T460). My question is: what docking station or stations are available for me to purchase where I can plug my two monitors into the station and be able to use both the monitors AND laptop at the same time. I am not the most techy person, so you may have to dumb down your responses. I've read several reviews on Lenovo docking stations and some people are saying their monitors will only work with the laptop shut or if the laptop is open then only one of the monitors will work. I want both monitors AND the laptop to be able to be used at the same time. Are you able to point me in the right direction to the right docking station or docking stations that would allow me to accomplish this for my home office? Thank you very much in advance!

Every time I restart my laptop on a docking station, I get an error saying missing operating system. When I take the laptop off the docking station and reboot from there, it works fine.

A:Docking Station laptop Missing Operating System

Does your docking station contain a hard drive, or a hard drive bay? How about an external drive connected?

Boot it from the docking station and check the BIOS boot order.
