Cannot install Windows 7 on Lenovo B570 "The wrong volume is in the drive" 57%

Q: Cannot install Windows 7 on Lenovo B570 "The wrong volume is in the drive" 57%

I was trying to install Windows 7 ultimate on a Lenovo b570 that had Windows 7 Home Premium, I Gparted the drive to all unallocated, and started the W7 install, at 57%, it hangs for three hours, I take the disc out, notice fingerprints, used a CD cleaner, and cleaned it, I put the CD back in, waited for it to spin up, before hitting "try again" with the "No disc in the drive message" after hitting "try again", instead of it continuing like normal, it kept saying "The wrong volume is in the drive" despite putting the SAME disc in. No matter how many time I try to click, "try again", I get the same "The wrong volume is in the drive" message. If I hit "continue" I get a "Windows was unable to complete the installation" the computer restarts, but now I get a "Bootmgr is missing" Won't even boot to CD, not even Gparted again!

Any ideas on a fix on these various problems with installation?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. Is booting from a USB flash drive an option? It would be a lot more reliable, faster and one could even inject all current updates to the install wim file (a little over 7GB to date).
Just create the bootable drive
Extract the image to the root of the drive
Boot from drive and install

If all USB ports are 3.0 or better... one may have to configure BIOS to enable legacy and use a USB 2.0 drive as there may arise a driver issue when trying to install. One may pybass these errors by also including the secure boot option to Windows 7 installer.

Hello and welcome Baxter mate some more in depth specs please as that model Googles up as a laptop.
If you use this and find out what the motherboard is it would help a bit more

Using HW Info general components

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Go onopening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and it willhighlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detailed descriptionof that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailedand are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

See my picfor an example - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.
But I want you to open Motherboard

PS I did mean to add please see this for posting back pics of the screen

Hi, So, the latest Windows update could not be configured on my laptop, and the laptop keeps spitting out the following error: "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." The problem is, it won't let me do anything past that screen, so basically all of the usual troubleshooting options are unavailable. I've let it sit for an hour+ and it still sits on that screen. I've also restarted the computer and attempted to reboot in safe mode, same result. I contacted Windows support, and they told me to try and "force boot" the computer. The customer rep eventually had me go into the Boot Menu (F12 when the computer reboots), but he gave up, saying that it would be far too complicated for him to try and explain how to fix it from his end. How he explained the situation is that my computer is essentially in an endless boot cycle. Would anyone be able to link me to a guide or be able to explain how to force boot my laptop so I don't have to attempt to do it over the phone, or better yet a way to bypass the update? Or is my laptop just a goner?

A:Lenovo B570 updating windows error, don't know how...

hi Oglemi,

Just to verify, are you running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?

If you have Win7, are you able to login and go to the desktop when you tried to boot in Safe Mode or is the screen stucked to the Failure configuring Windows Updates screen?

If you're able to login into Windows, try these steps:
1. Press the Windows key? +R, type services.mcs and press Enter. On the list of services, look for Windows Update and set the startup type to Disabled.
2. Reboot the machine normally, undo the changes that you did in Step 1 and set Windows Update to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them under the Control Panel then reboot.
    - Link to picture
3. Install the updates one by one (oldest ones first).

As for doing a "force boot", AFAIK  this means bypassing the boot manager and boot directly to the boot partition where Windows is installed (more info here). This can be achieved by using third party utilities like UltimatBootCD, Hiren's BootCD, etc.

In your case, the Failure configuring Windows Updates error happens before logging-in to Windows, thus, you can't force boot unless you reset the updates that are pending to be installed as indicated in this guide.

Hi, I have run into a problem have (Lenovo B570) DOS-BASED. When i tried to install Windows 7 it did not let me do this and crashes within installation.

I am describing in following steps how and what problem i faced during installation
1- I put Windows 7 CD and laptop successfully booted with Windows Setup.

2- While copying windows files to hard disk.
3- After step-2, rather moving on next setup screen, blue window appears have a long error description. The key point in Error message was something like this:
"An unexpected error occurred and setup needs to shutdown" then nothing happens...

2- I have tried with with the replace of ram , I cleaned the motherboard fan too but same result!!!
I am think it need BIOS setting required?

3- I have gone through on some article and someone mentioned there that, on lenovo machine SATA configuration must be set to IDE rather than ACHI(in BIOS)!!!
Can you suggest me how to do the right thing, what should i do?

Thank You.

A:Windows 7 installation Problem in Lenovo B570 Laptop

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Check for newer BIOS update.

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI to try that first. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of marking it Active which overcomes certain install failures.

A:Windows XP installation Problem in Lenovo B570 Laptop

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
OR
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

Hey there specs are as:

Dell XPS 720
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU
[email protected] GHz
2.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

Anyways... I seem whenever I boot up my comp. a message constantly occurs:

a box appears and on top it says "CorelOMonitor.exe - Not Found", and below that, inside the box it states:

The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive. Please insert Disk into drive Z.

Thinking it was Corel Snapfire. I had inserted Corel Snapfire installation cd it said a similar statement, but at least it was on the same track as being a similar issue.

Because my iPod is connected via my ubs port, it always pops up whenever my iPod is connected.

Even though this is small issue, it can get very annoying as it is constant.

I had done a full scan using AVG 7.5, and had solved some issues, but not this.

I had tried changing the partition using "Diskmgmt.msc" in my RUN program on the start menu, and still no avail. also trying this going under an admin user.

Hopefully this is some what understandable. I mean green on these sorts of issues, and would really would like some support.

thanks, any more info, just ask.

I know just enough to get into trouble; not enough to fix my errors.
I have a custom made AMD Athlon64 3700 w/2GB memory and 2-250GB HDs. It's running XP Pro SP3 and all updates.

I had the two HDs installed and I ran XP on both drives as a dual boot system. [Don't ask why-I know it was a stupid idea]. After a few months, of actually running D: as my main drive, I went back to C: and erased/re-formatted everything off of D: so I could use it for something else. Trying to run the same programs on two drives and keeping them sync'd was more than I bargained for.

Now I have problems because some of the programs supposedly running on C: have some old connection to D: where they think there are files they should be using, but the files are no longer there. After formatting D:, I had to manually uninstall Office 2007 and re-install to get it to work. Every now and then Outlook still tries to write files onto D:. I changed D:'s drive letter to M: to stop the nonsense, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.

I had some problems with my printer software (HP psc 1210xi multi-function) and it wouldn't scan docs any longer. I couldn't fix, so I uninstalled, but now when I try to re-install it by running setup.exe, it stops after a few seconds and tells me there's an error opening the installation log file. The first messages were that it was looking for a file at D:\ProgramFiles\Hewlett-Packard. After messing with this and deleting every reference I could find to Hewlett-Packard... Read more

Hi everyone.

I did a new install of Windows yesterday and installed only what I really needed. The SSD is 120GB, but is 111GB for obvious reasons. Well, I almost ran out of space yesterday and I have no idea out.

If I highlight all of my folders on the drive and check the properties it states that 37.6GB is being used in them. WHen I go to My Computer, the drive states that only 33.4GB is available. There is 40GB that is being used, but not being shown anywhere. How would a new install and all folders being about 40GB somehow double what's being used? What would I look into to see what's going on? Thanks in advance!

Where did you get Win7? If you burned it yourself, confirm the ISO exact size and integrity or download another, burn to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Then make sure you have set DVD drive to boot first this way: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Next try booting using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen.

If these fail boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD which will autostart on its own, highlight HD by clicking on it, then from Disk tab Wipe HD.

This will in turn cause the installer to autostart. Be sure to confirm it's integrity first or it may fail again.

I have a good old Lenovo Essential B570, which has been working perfectly for the last 6 years. Sometime back, I had a fan replacement, which worked fine but I was fed up of the noise it created. So I ordered a new Lenovo B570 fan myself from China. When I opened the laptop to install it, I was surprised the fan fitted to the laptop was different from what I received. Here are the pictures of both. (left= new one, right=old one) What I dont understand is what's the portion marked yellow? Is it very critical because I could not make it stick to the motherboard due to screws issue. I thought if old fan without this worked quite long, it should not create any problems.looking forward to your comments

Ok, I'm not getting this, and I've been around computers for some time.

I've had my B570 for a bit over a year now. Worked great on home wireless network ( Brighthouse networks in Florida, with Ubee Wireless modem running Lightning or 40mb.)

Had to move to new place offering a house offering of wifi, had a bear getting that up, but finally did.

I've since moved to another apartment, and I have Bright house here too, but I'm using a different modem now, and a fraction of the speed.

Here's the q, and I've seen this on an HP laptop running Vista, but that one died and I got this one.

Go to Starbucks, Panera's, Dennys or just about any other public place, and I can see the routers and even connect, but can't get anywhere on the internet. I get either a limited or no internet, or identifying, but that's it. I know that their router is working because i can make the wifi connection on my phone and browse no problem, and I see other patrons with different computers logged in at the same time.

McDonalds, I can get in, and soon as the network connection comes up, browser will pop up and allow me to accept McD's access rights page and I can connect. I know that Denny's has one too, but it doesnt pop up, and ( I know that this will sometimes happen too ) if I try to connect to a website, sometimes the local accept page will pop up, but usually not for me.

Hi So I have a Lenovo B570 laptop that I got just over a year ago. My laptop will start up, and show the little *Lenovo* logo, then go to the *Starting Windows* screen. It takes a few seconds to start the animation, and once it starts, it'll stop, flash a blue screen with a bunch of numbers/letters, and show the *Lenovo* logo again. This time, it'll give me the choice to do a Startup Repair or start Windows normally. If I select start normally, it does the same blue screen thing. If I do Startup repair, it'll start it, then form 5 minutes to 2 hours later it'll say, "Windows couldn't fix the problem." It asks me click finish, and then the whole startup-blue-screen-startup-loop-thing. Now, this problem has happened before, and my uncle was able to fix it, but he moved. Please help

A:Lenovo B570 Boot-Loop

Hi Gosraj,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your B570 Laptop is displaying Blue screen error when the computer is turn ON, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue.
Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now Click on ?F10? Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Some program or startup is causing the slowdown. You can do a clean boot and from there add services until you find the one causing the problem. It would be a good idea to disable your startup items also.

A:lenovo B570(P/N:59316294) support mSATA?

hi yangwool,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Looking at page 38 of the B570 hardware maintenance manual, the Mini PCI-E slot is being used by the Wireless card and/or a WWAN card.
  - Link to picture

Although an mSATA SSD would fit on that slot, the manual doesn't indicate that the slot is electrically compatible with an SSD (unlike other models like the Lenovo Y460's mini PCI-E slot (more info on page 28 of HMM):

If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, it would be best to replace the stock HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD (like this item).

If she tries typing anything the keys bring up the start menu, as well as other programs such as a menu that says
"Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend, Projector Only"

There was nothing spilt on the keyboard to make it sticky, and the keys are not stuck.
We're are very curious what could be causing this problem.
If you could help explain or give us steps to fix this problem it would be very appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

A:Lenovo b570 Keyboard Not Working Properly

hi jenniby,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I believe it is the Lenovo B570 you're saying,
Try doing a power drain,
Remove AC adapter and Battery, then hold down the power button for at least 15 sec. this will drain off the power from the MOBO.

Reconnect everything and see if that works,
Also try using an external Keyboard to test out the Windows.

If that did not work I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical support for Hardware Concern.

Regards
Solid Cruver

hi there,

My son's Lenovo laptop has it homekeys not working in any typing interface, not even in BIOS setup. Some FN key combinations also not working including numbers 1 and 5 of the keypad.

I don't know how this happened or what might have caused it. However, this laptop's display has, for several times now, been having a distorted frozen display while playing games or watching movies leaving no option for access but forced shutdown.

My foremost concern right now is for the keys to work normally again. We now use it with a usb keyboard with no problem but haven't tried it with BIOS and FN combinations.

Please help.

Can you hook up an external keyboard and see if that works?

I recently acquired a lenovo laptop B570 CHEAP. had cracked screen and I knew so when I bought it, figured it might be worth fixing seeing as lenovo is GOOD stuff, right? Anyways I turned it on after ordering replacement charger from Ebay and it just sits on the POST screen. Any idea what could be wrong?? I tap the F2 to enter setup and it will say please wait for like 5 minutes-10 minutes. I pulled the HDD and it still wont pass post. It appears to have been dropped somewhat onto its side, hence the cracked screen. Is it a orst case/fried motherboard scenario??

I keep getting this message whenever I need to open up the task manager. It has become an annoyance, but now I am wondering if it is something I should be concerned about. Here's what it says:
Windows-Wrong Volume
Exception Processing Message 0x0000012 Parameters 0x7618023C 0x7618023C 0x7618023C 0x868FC54C 0x7618023C
Anyone have any idea what that means?

Apparently after I shut down and rebooted the computer, message went away in its entirety. Is this related to the UnrealTournament 2004 patch I just downloaded and installed? Otherwise I am good to go I assume.

We just got a 570 in today.  It's got an i5 7500u, don't know the storage capacity because it's a demo unit that was lended to us for a few weeks.  When I boot into the BIOS it doesn't show any drives.  When I use boot manager it only has PCIe LAN or Windows Boot Manager.  When selecting Windows Boot Manager nothing happens it goes back to that screen.  I can boot to WDS (where we have an image for the 570 with the 6500u) and it didn't see any volume.  I thought okay that's fine I'll boot from a Windows 10 USB.  I get the exact same issue.  I've messed around with secure boot, changed legacy and uefi settings.  The only thing I haven't done is open the machine up to see if there's even a drive inside.  Anybody have any other options I could try?

I got the error message when visiting the site http://www.7byte.com/index.php?page=hotcpu with Firefox 3.0.8, Windows XP:

titled: Windows - Wrong Volume
saying: The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume
into drive \...\DP(1)0-0+e.

I dont know why I got it but it seems strange. I dont think it has anything to do with the site or firefox, but could be wrong. I wasnt doing anything else at the time.

Could this be a virus or spyware? Or has anyone got an explanation...

Thanks,

I had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.

A:Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.

I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of them...ie 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.

Can I take the hard drive out of a T500 and install it into a B570 that has a failing Hard Drive?

A:B570 Hard Drive Compatibility

Hi Zathrus1,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Generally that would have same specification for the B570 storage so it would be worth a try.
As soon as the BIOS detect it that it can be operable but there is no guarantee current Windows would work as it may need Windows reinstallation on the new build in some cases.

Hope this help answer your query.

A friend of mine got a virus on his PC. The PC was cleaned, and the HD replaced by another drive, (BUT NOT REMOVED). When he and someone else(NOT ME) installed XP, they installed it to the E: drive.

Now, even with the original C: drive removed and the new drive set as Master, Installed correctly to the cable in which it should be, He cannot get XP to recognize the E: drive as the C:. There is NO OTHER Drive IN THE SYSTEM!
Now the drive is booting off of E: and acting as a C: drive, but the letter says E:.

I tried to help him, we went to the Disk management where you can change Drive letters and all he gets is a message saying he cannot do that. We tried several different things, and short of accessing the registry(which I do not want to do long distance) over the phone trying to help him...I don't know where else to go.

I even deleted the IDE drive in System properties and it found everything, but came back as E:.

ANY Suggestions???

HELP!

I have been trying to install a couple different programs and keep getting the same error message, that E is an invalid drive. I think they are all trying to install to the E drive (which I dont have) instead of my main C: drive. any suggestions on how to change the default? thanks
bart

A:Program tries to install to wrong drive

Program installers will allow you to choose where exactly the installation directory should be pointed to. When that options comes up, you can change the destination including the drive letter (change "E:\Program Files\etc etc..." to "C:\Program Files\etc etc...").

By the way you aren't trying to install from, say, a virtual drive are you?

Hello everyone, Yesterday I got a brand new B570. After first power on I got access to Bios (F2) and Bootorder (F12).Today, after installation of a win7/64 the B570 refuses to enter BIOS and Bootorder table.I found this :  message in this forum BIOS Access B570 i5 Sandybridge but it didn't work:He suggested: remove battery, remove BIOS battery and press power button for 30-40s.Has anybody an idea? I think BIOS rememered a wrong state of windows shutdown situation?May BIOS thinks that Windows in hibernation? Are there any suggestion or a way how I could reset BIOS this wrong situation ? Thanks in advancedWolf

A:Lenovo B570 (F2)NO BIOS ACCESS, no (F12) BOOT order Access

I have a circa Nov 2011 B570 that is now showing this problem.  It's out of the extended warranty as of Nov 14.History:  on Mon 3/16 while doing typing after a suspend I heard the awful "tink tink" similar to a HDD crash, got a blue screen and then nothing, just sat there for over 10 minutes trying to load the error data.  Powered off/on and now after PO and holding F2 it goes into the Please Wait .... with the blue task bar on the right at about 50% and nothing else happens.I removed the HDD and same symptoms.  Borrowed a known good 320G SATA drive from my son and same symptoms.  Disconn/reconn the BIOS battery on motherboard (I think that's what it is, small white plug accessable with large back HDD cover off near HDD compartment) no change. Tried the disconn and hold power button for 30 seconds shown in this forum, then reconn power and same symptoms.   I'm not going to pay for a new motherboard but it's frustrating a never-had-a-problem system goes "casters up" and isn't quite 3.5 yrs old.  Anyone got other ideas on what to try?  I do have both the recovery CD and a recent windows/system backup to a USB external drive if it turns out to be the HDD but I cannot get far enough to tell and am not enough of a PC expert to know how to force the way into setup or BIOS.
