Realtek 889A and Windows 7 Pulling my hair out

Q: Realtek 889A and Windows 7 Pulling my hair out

I have installed the latest drivers for this new MB and still it tells me in Device manager that HD Audio has been disabled and is using a M/S driver.
OK it may be me with this new OS so bear with me, I have looked in control panel and it tells me no audio installed.... I then look at device manager and there is NO audio/sound tab and under system it does show HD Audio but says it is disabled.
I am confused, any help PLEASE I really want to watch a Blue Ray this weekend....LOL

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is the Integrated Audio (or may be labeled HD Audio) in the BIOS enabled?

Also, when you first installed Win 7, many motherboards require "chipset drivers" and the chipset drivers usually need to be installed BEFORE installing sound drivers. One of the main things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard. Basically it's (1) Install OS (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers.

Please install a program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control."

Now, I've tried to do what was suggested, but if you've been in that folder in Win 7, with all the files listed, there is none that refer to windows live mail. All I'm trying to do is get to the internet through a link in my e-mail. But this problem persists. A:PLEASE HELP! pulling hair out

Hello s10extreme, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It sounds like your .reg files have the wrong association set to them as well. In Default Programs, double check to make sure that the .reg file extension is set to have the "Current Default" program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe).

Afterwards, try merging the exefix.reg file again.

Hope this helps,

I built myself a new PC about six months ago. I had never done it before so I knew that there would be challenges ahead. But, this latest thing has got me very frustrated.
Everything was going fine with all the drives. I had an extra bay that I wasn't using so I decided to put in an extra DVD burner.
I installed an Adaptec Ultra ATA/133 PCI card.
I worked on it, in my spare time, for a long time, maybe 1 1/2 months! I finally got the settings right and it booted Windows Xp and the extra drive was recognized in "My Computer."
Well, just two days later. I turned this thing on and it went through all the sequences that it normally did. But, then after going past the PCI device list then verifying DMI pool data, it tries to boot from cd three times and then "Disc Boot Failure Insert System Disc And Press Enter."
My original Bios setting was to enable boot other device with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd devices all disabled. This doesn't work and it now tries to boot from cd. I hope someone can help me. I did flash the bios with the latest version. That didn't help either.

Is your set up the 4 optical drives on the IDE connectors and the two HD drives plugged into the add in card with the WD as the boot drive?

Normally with this set up are the hard drives listed in BIOS or when you start up? And if so are they still there?

Have you checked the cable connection on the hard drives and card and/or tried reseating the card?

Please bear with me on this, I hope it's not too long winded. I have owned a computer for less than a year and use a Buffalo G54 Wireless Router. I use this to negate the need for cables running from one room (where the router is) through another and into the room where the computer is. But I have had nothing but bother with this item from day one. Anytime I switch on my PC there is a 50/50 chance whether the router will work or not. Whenever the wireless icon (bottom right of taskbar) says 'Status - not connected' I go to 'Buffalo Client Manager 2', click on 'profiles' then click on 'connect', sometimes this fixes the problem of Net access sometimes it doesn't. Another method is to click on 'profiles' then click on 'AOSS' then run through the house to the router and press on the router's AOSS button, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. Very rarely I'am on the Internet for longer than a couple of hours before the connection is lost. Sometimes the icon says 'Status - Connected' but I still can't get net access, this leads me to phone my ISP to see if there is something wrong with the Modem (which sits just below the router) there usually isn't. Sometimes rebooting the system works sometimes it doesn't. Eventually I was advised to uninstall Buffalo Client Manager and allow Windows to configure and run the router (that was AFTER pressing the Init/Reset button on t... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 518 with Windows Vista SP1 and have been running Norton AV 2009. Despite my best efforts to keep my pc clean, someone has managed to download a virus of some description. When I got back from holidays I immediately had warnings of a hotbar and something to do with zango, along with aquaplay and coolplay. I've run and run and run the AV and though some of this has been rectified, there are still drama's with the pc and I can't work them out. Any pages I open via google go to a varying addresses and a 'continue' button appears on them. Norton Liveupdate won't connect or run. Norton consistently tells me there is no virus, but there are too many weird things happening to the pc for that to be true. Today I used the norton removal tool and started afresh with Norton yet it still won't update. I briefly tried Trend Micro, which I have used with success in the distant past, however this too is unable to connect to it's update server (I have of course removed this product). Many pages that I open via links either don't load and give an error, or attempt to load a totally different site, very frustrating. I believe that I have followed all of the instructions in the sticky, and hopefully someone can help me with this issue.

I got the "un-mounted boot volume" error and have found and tried various fixes. Nothing will work, another problem is that the computer will not reconize the CD drive to use the XP setup disk. I did notice the when the memory was checking, it seemed to run for a long time and sort of erratic. Does this sound like the memory has failed?

I am at a loss at this point...

Thanks for any help

A:Pulling out the hair...

1. Unmountable boot volume - to fix this, you need to go into the recovery console and run "chkdsk /r".

2. Is the CD drive being detected in the bios? If so, make the CD rom the first boot device. If not, you can go here: http://www.bootdisk.com/ and get the appropriate .exe file that will put the boot info on floppies. So you can boot from the floppies and enter the recovery console.

3. How many memory modules do you have? If you have more than one, try mixing them up so that only one memory module is in the MB, and see if you get the same results.

If you get the unmountable boot volume fixed, download memtest from here: http://www.memtest86.com/ to check your memory.

I have a HP Pavillion DV8395ea, nice machine but it's decided to die on me. When it starts up it gets to the Windows logo with the loading bar and completes that. But then turns into a black screen.

It's got nothing on it anymore cause luckly I backed everything up so I thought I'd just re-install Windows Xp. Goes through the usual motions of the blue screen, hit enter if you want to re-intall Xp AND then a blue screen pops up saying no harddrive has been detected so it can not continue.

It has TWO 2.5" harddrives, primary and secondary, installed. I have checked both and the BIOS has stated there are good to go.

WHAT CAN I DO??

Please help me and thank you to any responce.

I purchased a gateway/router for my cable internet connection. Supposedly, I'm supposed to be able to share files, printers, and internet access with it. I bought the router, 2 NIC cards, and 3 cat5e cables, all the same brand. Installed the cards, no problem. Followed the instructions of the router to the letter! I have internet access on both pc's, but no file sharing or printer sharing. One of the pc's at least recognizes the other pc on the network, but the other pc gives me nothing. They belong to the same WORKGROUP, yet I get the "access denied" routine.

Additionally, both pc's have motherboards with onboard LAN. Neither has a J45 plug, but the ethernet adapters are there. I'm running XP Pro, on 2 AMD computers, one is 1.4Ghz, the other 1.3Ghz. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to straighten this out?

OK where to start, I got up at 6 this morning with full intentions of watching a bit of tv and finishing a few things I had going online. Well I opened my tv tuner and my screen got slidding lines across it blueish in color...now this isnt really abnormal, I would guess it is but for the system I just kinda got used to it. Well I goto reboot which usually takes care of it, and when it loads up I get a blue screen error (went to quick to relize what it said) and rebooted...well this went on 2 or 3 times then loaded up windows again as normal...EXCEPT this time all my tcp/ip protocol's magically went missing. Now I have been needing to reformat for awhile now, went through the whole routine and when it came time for it to boot up normal again...it just stayed at the loading screen with the moving bar at the bottom for roughly 45 minutes....now I know somethings wrong and cant figure it out. My first thought that my hard drive had had enough so I swapped it out with an older one and it still did the same thing. I'm coming up on my wits end and I really need some help guys.

My system spec's are:

Abit KN8 SLI
AMD (I want to say 6800)
1 Gig OCZ DDR
Nvidia 7800 256 mb PCI express video
Hitachi Deskstar 80Gig SATA HD

Currently I am running XP32 and want to upgrade with a clean install. Under my computer I can see the Windows 7 Logo when the DVD is in its drive but cant access the folder "the isntallation disk isnt compatible with your version of windows", which is fine I get that. But I cant get it to boot from BIOS either. I leave it in the DVD drive not my cd-rw drive and set BIOS boot option accordingly but I believe it is saying invalid disk or something. Am I doing something wrong? BIOS dates as of 2008. Thanks.

First, I'm running winXp w/SP2 with all current updates. IE is listed as being ver. 7.0.5730.128, 128 bit.

This all started about a week ago after my Son "Ida Know" was on the computer. You know the type! Who messed this up? A: "Ida Know!"

First, any games failed to play, YouTube wouldn't play. Kept getting an error message telling me I didn't have Adobe Flash Player installed or it was an outdated version, but clicking on the icon for it wouldn't install it, nor download anything else for that matter.

So I go to "Internet Settings" in Control Panel and find all scripting disabled. A few setting changes and IE is working normally.....almost.

Now when I boot IE, 98 pct. of the time I wait a few seconds, 'cause I know it's coming. The screen will Restore Down (Not Minimize) and up will pop up some stupid ad or other garbage I could care less about.

I've one by one changed some Internet Settings, but the problem persists. I've run my [up to date] Norton Virus Scan which found 1 tracking cookie which, when eliminated had no effect. I even tried Norton GoBack, but it didn't have a restore point that far back.

The last thing #1 Son installed on this computer was a Music File Sharing Program called Limewire. Now I know that in the past I've installed certain software that came with its own cookie "pop ups" and removing the pop up caused the program not to function properly, but I'm not sure about this Limewire program.

A:Pulling Hair Out Over IE7

Hi Bob

If your 'Ida Know' has been playing with Limewire, then there is high probability that your machine is infected with something that you don't want or need.

Limewire is known as a P2P File sharing software. It is not just music sharing. It's most common use is to download illegal copies of music, programmes and films etc. The P2P world is very murky and dirty with most programmes and file infected with anything from popups to key loggers, Viruses to Trojans. Un-install Limewire and forbid 'Ida' from reinstalling it!

This is a security problem, as such we, TSF, have qualified and trained security specialists in the removal of spyware, Viruses and Trojans etc.

I strongly recommend that you first of all take the '5 STEP PROCESS' and post the reports (logs) in the HiJackThis (HJT) section of the forum for our experts to help cleanse your machine.

The 5 Step Process: The TSF 5 step process

Post the logs here: TSF HiJackThis Help

Please bare in mind that our security specialists are very busy and are volunteers. It may take a little while for an specialist to take up your case.

Okay so here is the deal: This machine when set to obtain it's IP automatically will contiously pop up that the LAN connection has been disconnected although this is certainly not the case. when I run an ipconfig it pulls up an IP that is not only not mine but would apear to be nowhere in my state. So I can only assume somthing is amiss. I have run multiple scans and found that there is spyware infecting the machine. I am utterly greatfull for any help with the situation here are the logs from both highjackthis and panda :

If someone could take a look at my logs and point me in the right direction, that would be great. I'm going on 2 weeks + of trying to remove whatever this garbage is...

I know the 2 BHO's are some of the problem, but I haven't the slightest clue how to remove them.

I am so tired of M$ I want to contact Dr Kevorkian!! Opened my brower and accidentally hit the search button, to my suprise BING was on the list!! This may not seem like a big deal to you, but I have no IE updates, and I'm still using v6.

I have web/address bar searches disabled but I cant understand where it even came from. Did registry/directory searches but came up with nothing. Few years ago I read an article about how to add/remove search stuff from that list, but alas I am tired, its late, and now very pissed. So if I would rather ask the question than search the net for an hour.

Dont be shy, I am an old hand at computers, registry editing/hex editing/add/remove/delete/explode/stab/fire just let me know what needs to be done. I would very much like if the words B I N G didnt occur in succession anywhere on my computer, or it would instantaneously burst into flames!!

Seriously, I dont ever want the word to appear on my computer again. Of course I have it blocked in my hosts file, as my broadband provider sold out a month ago for DNS searches. There is no reason that it should be anywhere on my machine.

Just need to know how to surgically remove it, I will make notes.

Thanks,
C

Hi all,
I have this problem which I've been trying to solve with no success. I have a laptop and desktop (PC) connected wirelessly via a Linksys wireless AP router to a DSL modem. Both machines run XP Pro and have ZoneAlarm and Norton Antivirus Coporate Edition installed.

The problem is that I can't for the life of me ping each other. I can ping the AP and get access to the internet on each machine but cannot see each other. I can map each machine's drives using Netbeui but cant see each other. The router provides the internal IP addressses via DHCP and the ISP provides me with a dynamic
IP whenever I login

I've tried to get support from Linksys and they too were stumped. Both machines are on the same workgroup and subnet.

Aprrecaite all the help possible.!

Hi guys

Ok here goes... Yesterday I bought a Samsung Notebook (305V5A/3415VA/305V4A).. I tried connecting to the internet via ethernet but had no success.. I can connect by wireless no problem.. when I go to my device manager I see an exclamation mark on the "SAMSUNG-PC".. the status at the bottom says "needs troubleshooting"

So I click on that then it says that "the driver for the Ethernet Controller is not installed. Install the latest driver for the device."

I have the option to Apply Fix... which obviously I click on then it comes up saying that "Device driver software was not successfully installed" then No driver found.

I've tried looking online everywhere for the driver but to no avail. I have the option to go to where I got it from and swap it with another one but I'd like to resolve this now if it is an easy fix.

I'm running Windows 7

Please help me. thanks

A:Pulling my hair out!

If it's brand new, it should have shipped with all the required drivers installed. It's possible there's a hardware problem.

I suggest taking it back now and getting it replaced before the return/exchange period expires.

I have an issue (that is none existent when running win 7 on same machine) with downloading files, doesn't matter what it is or how large I get a download interrupted error on ie and network error using chrome. Same thing happens on wired or wireless. Have tried a clean install and an upgrade from a clean fully working win 7 install. Have tried another WiFi dongle although it happens when using Ethernet. The annoying thing is that I had a fully working win 8 install and I decided to do a clean install as my drive was full and cba going through it all. Im not finding google is helping me much this time. I have been getting connection reset error on Minecraft also. If anyone can solve this they'd be my hero lol

Not sure about a USB driver conflict but try plugging a mouse into the mouse port on the rear of your PC and unplugging the USB Mouse and see if this resolves your problem.

Hello everyone...

I recently bought a new case, motherboard and processor. My problem today is the motherboard. Its no serious problem, but its ungodly annoying.

Whenever I press Back or Forward in IExplorer the motherboard BEEPS. I looked around in the BIOS and found nothing relating to events or sounds.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7VAX/VAXP
I downloaded the brand new BIOS, installed it.

I may have missed it, but I found nothing in the manuel either.

Thanks in advance .

A:Pulling my hair out...

You've also looked in "Sound/Multimedia" in the Control Panel? Try turning off the different sounds one at a time. It may be related to an sound request that isn't available on the system so it just uses the computer speaker.

Just a thought.

Hi all, well it seems i have come across my first problem with 7 im not complaining though if this is the worst i get then im lucky. lol

Basically everytime i start utorrent my wireless drops. Not only does the signal go but 7 then says i have no wireless adapter lol.
All works well again on restart. Now the odd time i have got utorrent to start it works fine. If i exit the program however the wireless vanishes. So i dont close it i just stop all downloads and minimize the window. But i would like to know why my wireless keeps knocking out when im using it
Hope someone has had the same issue lol and can point me towards the light.

Have you run it in compat mode and all that? Why don't you try Bittorrent or another one and see if you have problems with it.

Hey guys, im hoping you can shed some light on a problem thats been bugging me for almost 5 months now that i cant seem to get rid of despite following the advice i found in most BSOD threads Well to start it off im running Windows XP my problem happens almost exclusively when im playing games but has also been triggered by random activities such as unplugging my headset the other night and trying to open a song in WMP yesterday. The crash can sometimes be predicted as well there are some times when all my programs become unresponsive and go into error sending then upon reopening them they just crash again, if i leave the computer in this state for long enough it eventually bluescreens and sometimes but not all the time before a bluescreen the game im in will become unresponsive and soon after the BSOD will pop up.

Sometimes the BSOD links the stop errors to drivers but theres also alot of times where theres no driver linked at all. The stop errors have differed over the months and as have the drivers that it links too, its given me nvidia.sys before which i assumed was the vcard drivers but upon rolling back and installing newer drivers i still crashed. Recently its been saying something like svart.sys cant really remember it off the top of my head.

Anyways on to what ive already tried. I have tried really keeping up on my computer housecleaning defrags and such, keeping more then 15% space on my HDs and ive already ran boot memory tests a few times with no errors, though ... Read more

Well, you have a peper trojan, which is easily fixed, you go to www.thespykiller.co.uk and go to downloads and download the peper trojan uninstaller, and then we can fix the rest, but if you can't go online, we have an issue because you have to be online for the fix to work.

XP

I got the nasty CPV feed on limewire, and have tried numerous things to get rid of it, as most have. . . but to no avail. . . it seems it wants to reside in my computer.

I have tried the following programs: Kaspersky Anti-virus 6.0, ATG, Ad-Adware SE, Super Antispyware Professional, and Spyware Fighter.

I just ran the following programs in safe mode: Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware SE.

In reading other posts, it was recommended to use the Vundo Fix program. I did that, and it didn't find anything.

Attached is my hijack this log file:

Please help, as I have tried everything on my own and I'm getting no where. My computer was running slow and we started noticing odd toolbars. We ran Spybot and AVG and removed some things I manually removed some toolbars from add/remove programs. AVG ran a scan and we moved things to the vault and deleted them. After that it still keeps poping up virus detected. Other things I notice are: my desktop background will not show, weather a personal pic or a windows pre-set. Also in IE I have to hit enter after typing and address atleast 2-3 times before it will even starting looking for the page. I ran a Hijackthis last night and with some research I deleted some items I felt safe deleting, that did not help. Spybot will not run a full scan anymore. Today I ran AVG in safe mode, with system restore turned off it locked up. I ran Stinger and it locked up-both programs are locking up at zipfldr.dll. I re-booted and ran Hijack This in safe mode here is my log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 8:04:28 PM, on 7/9/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\... You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix. Please download FixWareout http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exeSave it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal. When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed. )Fix these with HJT ? mark them, close IE, click fix checkedO17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B4EE3181-1858-4E70-85BE-CE5A47CCA59F}: NameServer = 85.255.116.90,85.255.112.219O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{EE8D4AB8-9B2D-4FA8-9799-BFBEB4794F50}: NameServer = 85.255.116.90,85.255.112.219O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.90 85.255.112.219O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.90 85.255.112.219O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.90 85.255.112.219If you have connection problems after this* Go to Control Panel. - If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category. Well i did a system build not to long ago. It was my first build and it went amazingly well. But just recently ive come across a small problem.. i have a Logitech G15 keyboard and a G5 mouse that suddenly quit working. Well i was looking around for solutions because my PS/2 still worked so I knew it was something with the usb ports. So i booted up one time and on my pre bios screen it lists my IRQ numbers and i noticed that my networking device and multimedia device x2 both had the IRQ number of 5... that raised a couple eyebrows for me so i thought id try to figure how to fix that. Haha easier said than done though. if anyone has ANY solutions to this problem i'm willing to do anything and everything to get this fixed.
