I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just bought a new laptop, and a glitch has developed where by lowering my resolution, the size of the screen decreases, leaving black space around the outside. This is particularly annoying in games that do not play at my computer's native resolution, and therefore run in a rectangle half the size of my screen. If anyone can help with this, I'd be very grateful. thanx

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

You need to right click somewhere on the Windows desktop then click Properties, then Settings. Use the slider to adjust the screen resolution to be the same as the recommended resolution for your monitor. If it won't let you increase the resolution, let us know what graphics adapter you have (manufacturer and model).

I purchased an HP 6735b laptop, designed for Windows Vista, without a hard drive. I purchased a hard drive and installed Windows 7 Professional. I did all of the important and critical updates from the Microsoft website and updated all drivers using Slim Drivers. Somewhere along the line the screen brightness dimmed and wouldn't allow me to adjust it.

Through the device manager, I found the display adapter, which is ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics. Went to ATI website for updated driver and found the latest for 3200, which I installed. It appeared to work, I was able to adjust the brightness back up.
However, when I shut the laptop off and start it again the screen is dimmed. The hot keys (FN + F10) will not work, but when I type in "adjust screen brightness" and go to the screen that allows you slide the bar up and down to adjust the brightness it suddenly pops into the pre-adjusted brightness setting.

I've tried to go to the AMD website and download their program that makes sure the drivers are updated, but after the program loads, you click on the button to search, I receive an message that says "Sorry, something went wrong".

Why won't it hold the setting after shutting down?

Not on the information you have given us.
Desktop or laptop ?  Make and model ?  Main component specs if it is self-built ?  Post back with this information
In the most general sense, if it is a desktop borrow another monitor, if it is a laptop connect it to an external monitor. This will at least tell you if it is a monitor/screen problem or a computer problem.

how do i change the size of the icons on the login screen on windows xp?

A:login screen icon size adjustment

Safest(depending on which program you use) and probably quickest way to change things like that would be via a third party theme app such as TuneUp Utilities WinStyler. It's a shareware program but a trial is available from their site. There are probably other programs which can do the same thing too..some may even be freeware but to use of those types of programs do sometimes carry a risk so use with caution.

I'm considering the XPS13 with a matte screen. However, all reviews I find mention that it's not possible to adjust the brightness with the matte display. Is this still the case? If so then quite honestly, a Dell is not the right one for me as my eyes have special needs, which require custom brightness and a matte display.

What about the temperature development at the bottom? I'd be using the notebook exclusively on my lap and I would not want to carry around a heat protection mat.

Thanks a lot :)

Hi, I observed a problem on my new pc with windows 7.

When I try to adjust the screen brightness, the adjustment slider is always in minimum in Control panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Option, as shown in this picture

but once I go to the "Edit Plan Settings", the slider is in maximum position, as shown in this picture

I can adjust the brightness under the "Edit Plan Settings" but not in the "Power option". Something must be wrong here, does anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks!

A:Problem on screen brightness adjustment(Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

Hmmm... That slider doesn't even show on my PC until I edit plan settings.

Is this a laptop? Is your screen dark?

If you can't adjust the slider on the Power Option window it likely isn't doing anything anyway. It might not be anything to worry about if your screen is operating normally. I know of no fix for it, but others might.

I cannot find where to decrease the sensitivity of the beautiful touch screen on my new Yoga idepad... and the users manual Lenovo Vantage directs me to is something of a joke on the matter... I'm used to using two-finger enlargement, but the yoga idepad seems to be set for one-finger. Perhaps that is in the same place as the sensitivity adjustment?

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

This problem started happening about a week ago and I've never had a problem like this before. The problem is that often (but not always) when I start a game, it goes into full screen and it will usually change the resolution like mosts games do, except when I either exit the game normally, or alt+tab out of it, the resolution does not change back to normal. I have my desktop resolution set at 1024x768 normally. This seems to hold true for almost all my games. Even the windows screensaver causes the same problem if it changes the resolution.

After this happens, if I go into display properties and try to change any settings whether it is resolutuon, color depth, or even the refresh rate. I get an error that says it can't be done and I probably don't have administrative rights. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420. Around when the probelms started I updated the drivers to some beta drivers from the Nvidia site. I assumed those might be the cause so I downgraded to the latest official foreceware drivers which I had installed before. The only other things I can think of that I have installed before the problem occoured was the new Microsoft Anti-spyware but I doubt that would have caused it.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I am out of ideas...

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, just joined actually, and I had a quick question. When I set my resolution to any other res other than the highest possible i get a black outline around my screen due to the resolution not stretching to fit my entire screen. This is fairly recent, as it never used to happen. I'm figuring it might be a driver problem, but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

A:When lowering screen resolution, screen does not stretch to fit

Hi SevenUltimate welcome to the forums

I see you have a Geforce 220, I have the 210, the model down from you and have exactly the same issue.

Firstly, yes it's a driver issue. I have had to roll back to 258 edition to get it working properly again.

Take a look at my post about it here: Make Full screen actually look full screen maybe the suggestions will work for you, although they didn't for me.

Failing that, I'm willing to upload the 258 edition drivers to my Skydrive if you want? (mods/admins: please let me know if this is against the rules, don't think it is, but you never know)

Hope it helps

Ok, something's gone wrong with my Windows 7. I was playing a game in window mode, told it to go full screen. The game worked, played it for a little bit, then I quit. Now my screen will not go back to the windows desktop, it just stays black.

I tried safe mode and system restore and cannot get it to work. I know windows is still working because I can hear the logon sound when it starts up, just a black screen. The monitor never shuts off or goes into standby mode, it just stays black - no cursor even, so I don't think its activation related.

Can someone please do me a huge favor and figure out what the key strokes are to change the screen resolution? My plan is to right-click and then go from there with the keyboard. Maybe changing the resolution to anything else will force it out of whatever mode it is currently stuck in.

Thanks in advance.

A:Screen Resolution Help

Right click on Desktop, press letter C, then hold ALT key and press letter R, then up and down arrows move the resolution up and down - I assume you want to take it to the top resolution allowed, especially if you are using LCDs, because Windows has a good habit of *usually* limiting resolutions to what your monitor can handle....

Any other things you need?

Also, have you tried a different monitor? Perhaps the game that you played stressed the monitor out and eventually broke it when you quit....

An alternate video card would be handy to test as well...

Finally, the default checking all connections and making sure the card is seated properly (make sure to do this when the computer is off) is a requisite for troubleshooting this issue as well...

A:Screen Resolution

It could be a poor connection, 2 of the pins in the VGA style cable are used to 'tell' the PC the resolutions etc the monitor can handle. If they don't connect properly this could cause your problem.

With all power off try removing and reconnecting the VGA connector several times at both ends, this should clean the pins and may improve connectivity.

If that doesn't help I would try a new cable.

EDIT : check all the pins are straight before doing the above !

For a laptop you need to use the native display of the screen. This is because the display is made up of liguid crystals and if the setting is wrong the display may look blurred.
