work offline / work online button with network location

Q: work offline / work online button with network location

I have a network drive, which I set up to save a copy of a folder for offline use using the instructions here:
Working with network files when you are offline - Windows Help

I am not able to find any option for setting the drive to work online or work offline. I did manage to set it up to work offline yesterday, but forgot how. Now, I cannot find any work online or work offline button. Is it in a different place in 10?

Preferred Solution: work offline / work online button with network location

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: work offline / work online button with network location

Reading the net, it appears that this is a pretty buggy implementation of working with network files offline. I was able to effectively use the offline files feature on another win10 machine. When I unplugged the ethernet cable, I could work with the offline files, and then when I plugged it back in, the computer went online and I synced the files. Back on the original machine, I turned off the 'enable offline files' option, rebooted, turned on the 'enable offline files' button, and rebooted. After this, the machine was still working offline. It said that the user had chosen to work offline (which was true at an earlier point). But there is no option anywhere to work online.

I followed the instructions to reinitialize the offline files cache as described here: How To Reinitialize The Offline Cache in Windows 7 . I found it elsewhere, and the general instructions are repeated on the internet in various places. This enabled the laptop to use the cached files online again. However, I still cannot manually get into and out of the 'work offline' mode. If anybody has any ideas, I would be grateful. If there is a registry value that would put things into and out of the 'work offline' mode, I could at least write a batch file to do this.

My real problem is that I have offline files enabled.
When I connect to the office with high bandwith VPN, I can sync all files, but when I connect through slower (HSPDA/UMTS) mobile connection, I just cannot make to sync files, thus I cannot see non-sync folders in my domain.
In many artcles like this:
I can read that there has to be a Work Online button somewhere in the Explorer in Windows 7:
"Now, with Microsoft’s Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems, there is a button right in the Explorer tool bar called “Work Offline ” that automatically forces the transition to offline mode. When you click
that button again, it changes from “Work Offline ” to “Work Online ” so that you can force the transition back."
Q1: Where is that? I just cannot see it anywhere.
Q2: Is there a good way to enable sync on slower mobile connection, too?
Q3: XP used to be set up to ask if I want to sync files if VPN was connected. How can I do the same with Win 7 (Ultimate)?
PS. our server is Win 2008 R2.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Ok, so I purchased and downloaded the "Quick 3D Carousel AS2" from UltraShock (www.ultrashock.com).

When I view the swf on my local machine, it works just as it should. But when I upload it to the server, only the background on it works, none of the images in the carousel work.

All of the images defined in the xml file are uploaded to the proper place on the server, the xml file is uploaded where it's supposed to be, but online it just won't work.

I have been looking online for days and I've seen a zillion posts on this, but can't seem to find a solution that works for me. I have uploaded the swf in both ascii and binary with no luck, have checked the export settings in Flash with no luck.

I am stumped, and would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY appreciate some help from someone. I am about to pull my hair out!

I uploaded the files to my server. You can download it at http://www.walstonet.com/~mccallsa/new/carousel.zip. To view the swf online in the php page, go to http://www.walstonet.com/~mccallsa/new. The swf is placed in the box under the logo. As you can see, the swf loads, but the images don't.

On a separate note, I am not a Flash wiz, but I am usually ok at editing already created files (not too great at starting from scratch), and would really like to figure out how to change the speed of this carousel to be a little slower. Unfortunately unlike other carousels I have downloaded, the speed is not controlled in the xml file, but I would i... Read more

I have most of a win7 64 bit/xp(3) network set up but the xp system can't access files on the win7 system.

Here's what works and what doesn't and what I've set up.

In Win 7, the xp files show in the computer/network window and are accessible from there. However, the xp files cannot be mapped. the control panel/network map shows an icon and name of the xp system and says "the following discovered devices cannot be placed in the map." no explanation is given.

In the xp system, the win 7 files show in network places but when i click them, an access denied message appears.

the win 7 system name is W520, the xp system name is XP
the work group for both is named workgroup

to give the xp permission to access the win 7 files, in the advanced sharing window, i tried to put in the location of the xp workgroup like this, but it wouldn't accept it: \\xp\workgroup. only W520 appears as a location.

i've already given permission for "everybody" to access the win 7 files, but i suspect that is everybody at the w520 location only.

how can i add the xp system to advanced sharing section and how can i get it mapped?

and is there anything i haven't asked that i should do?

thanks for any help.

Hello all!

I am requesting help! My knowledge is run out, I can't think of any other solution for my problem. I hope someone can help me.

My problem is that I installed windows 7 ultimate 32x to a old vista laptop. Windows 7 runs really nice and smooth on it. But the wireless function on the laptop and the icon in the right corner is not working. Ethernet is working perfect.

I read somewhere on this site with a case similar, where I look up the name of the driver via device manager and then download it. But it did not work (see picture).

Any ideas? I have Sp1 installed and tried to update everything via windows update. I can't find the motherboards name to update it.

Any help? I am really grateful!

Hello, folks!
I come to you with quite a problem.
My internet doesn't work, but only so far as browsers go.
I am on an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 7. In Normal Mode, I am able to swiftly and easily use things like Skype and even Steam; video games that go online or have an online component also seem to work, and can patch themselves or download updates. However, I absolutely cannot use any of my browsers. I have three of them installed: IE, Chrome and Firefox, and when I try to use any of them I get the same error.
My main browser is Chrome, and when I attempt to navigate to a page, the browser hangs for a little while and then displays the error, "This webpage is not available."
Sometimes I will see this error flash in the page for a split second before my default 'start' page (which really isn't a website) turns up.
All of the browsers lag. Chrome in particular says 'Loading...' for some time before it even loads the start page.
However, in Safe Mode, all of my internet functionality is present and flawless. My browsers open speedily and connect to the internet in seconds without any problems.
I am not on my home network; I am on a Verizon network at my cousins' house. Obviously the issue is not with the network, and believe me, I checked and checked and checked again to be sure of that, but I did not start having this problem until I got here and tried to log on. Initially, when I did so, I had the ... Read more

So recently I've come across this problem in Windows Vista with my laptop where I right-click the network icon in the lower-right icon tray and then select the "connect to network" button that I use to connect to my wireless router... However, when I click on this button, nothing happens. No error message or anything. I even try accessing it through the start menu, control panel, etc. and it does not bring up the window that lists the available wireless connections.

When I had this problem before, I simply did a system restore and it worked, but my restore points have been deleted so now I am stuck. I tried Spy-Bot, AdAware, Norton to check for viruses, but nothing was found. I also tried a clean boot using msconfig to test for software compatibility issues, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas? Could it be a virus or something?

Hi bap0620

You might first want to run some malware scans in both normal & Safe Mode, since the value for "Work Offline" is supposed to stay at whatever you last set it to. If you uncheck it, it's supposed to stay that way.

Try a little cleanup in IE as well -- in the "Advanced" tab of the Control Panel's "Internet Options", go to the "Security" section, and place a check next to "Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed". Then, from the "General" tab, clean up thing manually: click on "Empty Temporary Internet Files", and clear the History as well. If you find your browser going to strange search sites that you haven't asked for, you may have been hijacked & will need to do the 5-step removal http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968 -- but that's getting a bit ahead of your current issue.

On the desktop computer, can we assume you have the firewall, antivirus, & antispyware programs installed & running? And the Security Patches from Windows Update are set to download automatically? [Try visiting Windows Update, just in case you recently grabbed a buggy patch - sometimes Microsoft will have another update to "patch the patch"] .

You can also try this utility ---

You could probably start with Windows Update & cleaning out your IE temp files -- and if that doesn't do it -- then try the IEfix han... Read more

You can try this:

1- Edit the following key value...
2- Change the LoadLCE and the LoadSens values from "yes" to "auto"
3- The computer must be rebooted for the changes to take effect. If these values get changed back by themselves after a reboot, then check the Run key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run If you find an entry called "loadwc", delete it and reboot again.

Maybe I don't understand fully, but perhaps the reason that you can't access some webpages is because you are offline? When you say work offline, it means that it just stores pages that you have visited in the temp files, and accesses those files when you're offline.

I have DSL supplied by my ISP--BellSouth. From time to time I have been getting a dialog box telling me that I am not connected (in so many words) and do I want to work offline or retry to connect to DSL. I click on Retry and I am immediately connected again. This has been happening for about a month now and it has begun to get annoying. As you know, DSL is supposedly always connected.
A friend has been seeing the same message and he is on cable. Anyone know what is going on with ISP's? Are they trying to cut down on idle computers to save bandwidth or what? If so, how can I, we, prevent it's happening? Thinking I may get some feedback from this board, it will help in confronting my ISP with the proper questions. As always, TIA.

A:Work Offline OR Retry

It does suggest that you may have some micro-outages on the DSL service.

It happens here about once every couple of months as well, probably due to service issues at the DSLAM equipment level.

DSL can only travel a finite distance from the exchange before the level gets unreliable, so its also possible that you are in a fringe area.

Also you may have some connected equipment that is interfering from time to time with the phone line depending on how the DSL installation was performed.
