Strange virus that leads me to yahoo site link, link inside thread

Q: Strange virus that leads me to yahoo site link, link inside thread

Hello,
as the computer I am working on is fairly new and empty, I tried a system restore and that failed due to an unknown error. I tried a different restore point and the same thing happened.

I built this computer couple days ago and it is transferring me to  htxxtp://search.yahoo.com/?type=714647&fr=spigot-yhp-ch

I probably contracted this virus from downloading software via forums to resolve a hard drive malfunction.

PLEASE HELP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The virus is is disguised as a anti-virus program, it is a trojan. It has lots of pop-ups, it gives an error when doing anything(opening a program/folder/document), The error message says TCrdmain.exe is a virus, but I know that it is not. It changes the background to solid blue every few minutes, constantly opens pop-ups saying i have 38 viruses...It slows and crashes everything... Then i was told to use a link on this website that is supposed to help me fix this virus. It's a direct download for RKill, and I need to save it to my desktop.... First of all, I clicked on a facebook link when all of a sudden antivir popped up, at first I thought it was norton, so i was like okay, fix it, but then when it asked to install it i realized it wasn't. I canceled it, but it downloaded on it's own. I have tried many differen't programs and finally (hopefully) got rid of that as well as a bho trojan. Then I downloaded a keygen for something, scanned for viruses and nothing came up, so I opened keygen.exe and it disappeared. Then when I try to click on a website link it normally leads to a random website. This is a new computer and on start up it now has a black screen until i force something to open or it takes a few minutes.I tried to restore my computer 4 times now and every time it says an error occurred. I have tried, spyware doctor (rid of the antivir), registry booster, super antispyware, avg free, norton internet security, something zilla which i believe gave false negatives, malwarebytes, as well as bitdefender and f-secure online scanners. dllhost.exe and rundll32.exe are running as processes, not sure if they are bad or not. Hello,

1. When I click a link in the search results produced by Google I am redirected to a page different than the one the search results are supposed to take me to. When I click back sometimes it takes to another page instead of the search results. If I click back twice, then I can get back to the search results. After the first click back it usually takes me to site that is a domain name space holder. This situation is random and I'm not sure how frequently it happens. It happens in firefox and chrome.

2. Sometimes when I click a link on a site including this site, a random site will pop-up in another tab.

3. All of these pages appear to be random sites and I cannot tell if there is a pattern.

4. I ran Malware Bytes and Super AntiSpyware yesterday and they found some issues that were dealt with, but the problems (1 & 2) persist.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Whenever I click on a link, even if it is a link presented by Google as a result of a search, I am often taken to various different web sites I never heard of before. My husband is very computer literate but does not feel comfortable fixing this without your advice.

When I tried updating my PC-cillin information I got an error saying, "Update unsuccessful. Check your Internet connection, and then try again. Consult the Online Help for additional instructions. (-1)"

We think this could be a result of being highjacked. We do have internet connectivity. For example this message is being sent from the computer that is having the problem.

Recently I was told to download a codec that would enhance video quality and like a dumb ***, I went ahead and did it. After doing so I realized nothing had changed and did a search about this "new" codec. I came across this website with another person talking about the same problem. Tried to reply on the same topic, but was not able to so here I am posting a new thread. There is no signs of a problem...yet, but would like to make sure things are ok still. I followed some of the directions from the previous post and got a log file to be viewed. If you have the time to check it out, it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi! Recently, without me knowing, my cousin used my computer and downloaded illegal softwares which I guess caused to have constant attack of viruses, rootkits, etc.

ESET Smart Security found several viruses and disinfected them, however, there are still lots that ESET cannot clean. I scanned my pc with MBAM and managed to remove some malware. But the BSOD's still persists. I'm pretty sure that the infections are the one's causing the BSOD's and system failure.

Now, I cannot access my pc using the normal boot of windows and I have to go onto safe mode to be able to access it. Also, I am unable to do System Restore for some reason, clicking the next button after choosing the restore point doesn't work.

GMER doesn't work. It says that my pc is positive however, when the scan finished the buttons are missing, it's just "OK" and "EXIT" are available. And when I press anything, it closes.

I've attached the posts needed. Thank you very much for the help in advance.

IE6 was not allowing the user to click the upper right hand x to close the app nor select close from pull down or even right click and close from task bar... had to control alt delete and then get the "not responding error" when ending task.

I found they were on Win XP Pro SP1, I went to SP2, and every other DL that MS threw at me only to still have the same trouble, and now the tabs are just out of hand. The first one sticks on the settings page they default to, I changed Home page, reset all security and related IE Browser setting even though nothing was tampered with.. still no luck. Second windows tab will allow a new web address and then hang after loading..

Thanx

Good aft...

In the past, when I would click on a link to another site within a web page, the new site would open full screen maximized. For about 3-4 weeks now, the linked site opens in an approximately 3X5" window. I have to manually maximize the page (either the maximize button or using the pull down in the lower right hand corner).

My IE8 shortcut is set to maximize and when I open IE, it opens maximized. It is only when I attempt to link to a different site from within a web page that I get the annoying small window which I must manually maximize.

I've looked through all of the Internet Options. I've tried checking "Open site in new window" and unchecking it to no avail. There was no change in IE versions when this began happening, though I can't rule out a Windows update (XP) that could be the culprit.

Any ideas from the floor?

Larry

also, how to get it embeded into the body of the email that I am going to send.

Any help would be appreciated..thanks

A:Best way to insert a link inside a graphic that can be emailed?

What email program?
Many people use a website link as an email signature, and that might be your best bet.
In order to use a graphic, you'll need HTML format, and many people block such email as it's considered a security risk.

I have been working on this for YEARS, and still have not found a way to fix the file.

FACTS ABOUT THE FILE: I STILL can't repair this file... here are the details....

~ The file is from a camcorder using mini-dvd's, of my wedding. All other dvds work properly, this one doesn't play through the file.

~ The mini dvd is in physically working condition, and I have no problem copying the .vob file.

~ the .vob file is about 1gb

~ If I try playing it in any video player (tried many) it never gets past the first 2-3 seconds, and then freezes.

~ In VLC media player, it recognizes the video is 14:12 long... but still only plays the first 2-3 seconds.

I will do anything to get this fixed!

I uploaded the entire dvd to google drive.
HERE IS THE LINK
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6fIpo33hhIPTFViV1VVcVVxLTg&usp=sharing

The main file is VTS_01_1.VOB You can see it plays the first few seconds in VLC player, and then freaks out.

A:Vob file data/video recovery help!?! (link to files in thread)

Does the disc play properly in a DVD player or in the PC itself?

If not, the disc/files are toast. Depending on file type, basic file information such as length, is stored in the file header. So just because VLC knows the playtime, doesn't mean the file is useable.

Also, in my experience, if it doesn't play in VLC, 99.99999999% of the time, the file is toast.

having said that, I will take a look.

Have an issue with one of my browsers, SBC Yahoo in particular. If I get a web address embedded in an Email I can't highlight it and get to the site. The computer stops responding in the browswer application.

If I type an address in Word and then come back and click on it then it takes me directly to address.
So, in my particular application in paragraph one for some reason the link can't be made and the browers "not responding".

A:Solved: clicking on internet link leads to "not responding"

I am not quite sure what you mean by one of my browsers
If that browser is Internet Explorer, try these and see if any help:

A) Start with the easiest and see if it works:
IE->Tools->Internet Options->Programs Tab.
Click Reset web settings button.

B) Make sure you disable all popup blockers and see if that is the cause.

C) One or more of the following DLLs might be improperly registered.

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

5. Repeat, substituting each of these additional DLLs:
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

D) If that doesn't work:
For Windows version (Win 98/ME/2000/XP) - Download iefix:
http://www.winxptutor.com/download/iefix.zip

It is a general purpose repair utility for Internet Explorer which repairs Internet Explorer by registering it's core DLL files. Additionally if it detects Windows 2000/XP as the Operating System, it runs SFC to restore missing or corrupt Windows system files.

Requires Microsoft VB6 runtimes for Windows 98/ME systems, download here:

E) Start->Settings-> Folder Options->File types Tab

I want to be careful in wording this post. I am not sure but I think that a link at this web site led me to a site that tried to hijack my computer. I put up a post in the Operating Systems forum for Windows XP. The post was title "editing startup & restarting in safe mode" A reply was posted with links to a few sites with start up manager programs. I clicked on the 1st and then the 3rd link. The screen said that I was being redirected because the site had been moved. Then my screen went white. I could not close out the program, even tried the cnntrol-alt-delete method. No luck. So I manually shut down the computer. Then when I restarted, Windows Firewall warned me that a program was trying to gain access to my computer. I clicked "block". Then my Webroot Antivirus with antispyware program warned me that a program was trying to infect (might have used a different word) my computer. I checked "do not allow". Then I ran a full virus/spyware scan. I had done this just four days ago and the computer was clean except for the usual cookies. While the scan was running, a screen poped up saying I had been infected and I needed to download a program to clean the computer. It was not the webroot screen and it looked like one of those "fake spyware screens" put on by malicious programs to fool a computer user. I used ctrl-alt-dele and ended task on that program, which was called "sysguard". When webroot finished it's scan, it ha... Read more

DriverUpdate.net - Update Drivers for Windows 8, 7, XP, and Vista

Should I download the drivers that are offered from this website ????

Thanks for all of your help.

A:Is this website/link a Legit. Win.8 site

DON'T! I downloaded that, Extracted the files with z-zip - It will install ALL kinds of malicious CRAP and CACK into your system.

Just use Windows update to download new drivers, and use GeForce Experience to download new Video drivers - DONT USE crap programs like this.
