How to recover a deleted/formatted bit-locker encrypted partition?

Q: How to recover a deleted/formatted bit-locker encrypted partition?

Hello,
Could you please help me to solve the problem i faced recently. Let me explain you what happened in detail.
Initially I had 2TB Seagate Expansion Desk HDD, partitioned into 500GB, 13GB, 293GB, all three Bitlocker encrypted and 1 more 500GB unencrypted partition, the rest of the space was unallocated. Few days ago, by mistake, while I was creating Windows Recovery
Disk chose the wrong drive letter and ended up whole partitions above deleted. Here?s what I have in HDD now: 32GB Windows 8 Recovery partition and 1831GB unallocated space. After that I haven?t made any changes to the drive. I was able to restore the data
from the last unencrypted part by using Getdataback SW but with no luck in my Bitlocker encrypted partitions. I would appreciate any advice to restore the bitlockerencrypted partitions as I have the password and recovery keys to decrypt and retrieve my data
back.

Softwares I have: Recuva. Handy Recovery. R-Studio. Getdataback. M3 Bitlocker Recovery. Starus Partition Recovery. TestDisk

I can provide the snapshots of the results from recovery softwares should you need them. Thank you very much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I may need some help
See, my little brother accidentally formatted an encrypted partition of my HDD (Disk drive D: 100 GB to be exact) which contained really important data that I need back! It had all of my photographs from the past 5 years (which I was too lazy to back up on cloud storage).
Would this help me recover the lost data? I do have the password and the recovery key. I hope this works

Since it was formatted and not just deleted, it may not be as recoverable. Especially since it was encrypted with BitLocker. You might see if you may be able to recovery the partition using the method in the tutorial below.

Recovering files is easy to do and you can easily do it by using Recuva (which you'll find a link for in my signature, it's highlighted dark brown/redish).

Hello,
I accidently formatted one of my drives which was previously encrypted.
I tried some third party software as "recover my file" but it didn't work.
Later then, I experimented on a formatted (not encrypted before) usb drive to recover files by same software and it did work.
After that, I encrypted the usb drive and then formatted it. Then I tried to recover by same software, but it didn't work. So, it's apparent that it is not possible to recover from a encrypted and formatted drive by a usual recovery software. Is there any
other method that can help me.
Please inform, I'm in a dire need.
Thanks.

Im using dell inspiron 1564.this is a dual boot system-(windows7 & ubuntu). Recently my system got affected by viruses. Even-though i have a working antivirus I get frequent pop-ups saying "threat detected". I'm tired with deleting those viruses. so decided to restore system from OEM partition to get rid of all those viruses. before installing ubuntu I had a single partition (c:\), then i made it into two partitions one for ubuntu clean install. now if I restore my system to factory settings from OEM of windows7 will the partition of ubuntu get formatted or deleted? I need help please. Thanks in advance for any kind help....

A:will the partition of ubuntu get formatted or deleted?

Are you sure the pop-up is from your AV or the Win7 Firewall and not a fake AV trojan which you clicked on from a pop-up which has now infected your System. If so you'd want to run Combofix to repair infection. There are other steps in posts 9 and 11 here which can overcome this type of infection: Fake AV infection - files hidden?

Normally Dell DataSafe Recovery will restore the HD back to factory condition when it is run, unless it offers to direct the restore to a named partition. Dell Restoring Your Computer?s Software to the Factory Settings

A better option for you might be to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 while deleting the Win7 partition to recreate and format it during install. Everything you need is in the blue link.

Then follow Barman's procedure here to set up the Dual Boot so that GRUB can't corrupt Win7 as it can do otherwise when on the same HD: Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7

I have this broken partition on my computer. If I open it in the disk administrator it says that it is formatted. The problem is that it isn't formatted correctly and that I can't read it, change it's properties or delete it. If I try to do anything with it the tool says that the file is not found.

I really want to delete it to get the space back. What can I do? The problem is likely that my harddrive has recorded somewhere that a partition exists while it in reality doesn't. Is there a way to make my computer realize that it is actually unallocated space?

A:Broken partition cannot be deleted formatted or resized

Run Disk Check
What tool are you using? Use Disk Mgmt or Partition Wizard installed version to make use of its Check File System feature.

If it fails Then run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

You may need to use a 3rd party tool to delete the partition from outside of Windows.
Most folks here like Partition Wizard on a bootable CD (ISO file).

A 250 gb partition in my 500GB Corsair Force LS SSD ATA hd stopped working.

I have decided to reinstall windows (win 7 pro sp1 64bit), deleting/merging the faulty partiotion.
In the installation proccess, I succeeded in the deletion of the partition,
but to my surprise, the list showed me 2 options of drives to intall to; a 250gb (my c: drive)
and a 476GB option. (750GB drive?! surly somthings wrong if the system/hd can't understand that the two options are of the same drive and actually make up 500gb total)...

After intalling, under disk managment, I tried to create a new simple volume out of the 476gb of unallocated space and succeeded but failed formating it (saying "windows was unable to complete the format").

what can i do?
how can I restore my HD to its 500gm state?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I have two HDs, 80 Gig primary and 120 gig secondary. I had win xp installed and running off the 80 gig and I backed up all my files onto the 120 gig. I then decided to format the 80 gig drive

I used a win 98 boot disk and formatted the 80 gig hd. then I started the win xp cd and it asked which partition I would like to choose. I chose the partitioned 120 gig drive not realizing what I had done. I confirmed the partition removal and then realized what I did. So I start flipping out and I restart my comp

I looked for my files and 120 gig drive but it was gone. I'm really going crazy. So I researched a little and I have two utilities on disk (mbrwork and testdisk) I started to run mbrwork and it has been searching for recoverable partitions for the past 2 hours. I don't know what to do and I really need the files on the 120 gig HD. I didn't install windows and I haven't done anything other than run the utility. Can someone please help me. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get my files back.

Thanks

A:recover deleted partition please HELP!

Rob, There are utilities that can rebuild a File Allocation Table. I have never used one but I understand that they work by installing the hosed drive as a slave to another bootable drive and running the software from the boot drive to fix the slave.

I can't tell you any names but a Google search should get you plenty of hits.

Good luck. There is hope.

Ok so I apologize in advance if this story is a bit long, and horrifying (actually it's probably entertaining xD). I purchased the Lenovo y510p gaming laptop on back on July 14th 2014. I got the laptop, and it just didn't work for me. It didn't play the games I wanted it to, it had overheating issues, the keyboard had a really sharp edge making typing uncomfortable as well. After installing Sony Vegas and Avast, and just shifting some of my personal photos/music over, I made a backup of the laptop using the OneKey Recovery software. This backup was made to one of my 500GB external hard drives. So I then decided that I just didn't like the laptop, and it was time to return it. I called Newegg, and got my RMA all ready to go. Because I had lot of my personal files and programs, I decided the fastest way to delete everything would be to use the OneKey Recovery by Lenovo, and do a factory reset. At the time, I didn't think anything of this then simply putting the laptop back to exactly how I got it. I even booted it up after the factory reset, and it looked just like the first day I got it. Fast forward 2 weeks, and my RMA is denied from Newegg:   Your RMA (RMA Number: 60470880) return was received and sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. 34-313-740 NB LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510P 59406636 RTSystem has been modified/altered original manufacturers operating system has been removed cannot access restore partition, this voids Newegg w... A:How to recover deleted "Recovery Partition"

If you only used One Key Recovery by Lenovo, it should not delete the partition. (I hope you did not format the whole system) Once you receive the laptop, you can check if this partition still exists in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management. It should show some drives, other than the C: , D: and the SSD (if you have). Those drives are the recovery partitions. I can post a sample screenshot in the evening. Sadly, I do not know any way to recover that partition. As I have seen on this forum several people who lost that partition could not roll back their laptop to original settings without a recovery drive (which is different from a recovery backup).

I just made a terrible mistake!

I've recently set up a desktop PC after 2 years without one.

Anyway, I've been backing up all my old 3.5 Inch HD's to newer and larger drives.

I just got finished moving a heap of files to a new drive, and when done, accidentally deleted the partition of the new drive and was just about to format it thinking it was the old empty drive when I realised what I had done...

So my question is, is it possible to recover a deleted partition? I'm guessing all the information is still on the drive as I haven't actually formatted it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:How can I recover an accidentally deleted HD partition?

Yes.

Undelete it.

Partition recovery function on any number of partition tools will do that.

Partition wizard free is popular.

Best done from a boot disc here: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

If you didn't create a new partition and installed files or a new OS over the space that was once the old partition, then there is a good chance you can recover.
Use the Free TestDisk program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another partition or drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to.

While trying to reinstall Windows 8 on a home PC we pulled the wrong hard drive and did a clean install on a drive that was being used to store a ton of files (videos, images, documents, etc) rather then a smaller drive that should have had the OS installed on it.

The original partition (on the storage drive) was deleted and then had 8 clean installed on it.

Is there any way to recover that deleted partition to get the files back?

Right now we're running a SuperScan with [email protected] Partition Recovery on the drive in question and it looks like it's going to take about 5 hours to complete. What's worrying us at the moment is the software is showing the deleted partition, and has folders from it in it, but there are no files. For example no videos or images yet.

I'm wondering if that just means the scan needs to complete or what. I don't know if anyone here has used [email protected] or has a better recommendation for partition recovery (if it's possible at this point) but the partition we're hoping to recover is listed as "Good".

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, if you need any more information, just let me know.

My Laptop is a Lenovo Z580 and I haven't done anything after deleting the Windows 8 partition.

Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).

Error message when you boot from the Windows installation media in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. (see screenshot below)

That is because Windows can only be installed to MBR disk in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode, but you plan to install Windows on a GPT disk.

I have two hard disk in my computer, Disk0 (500gb) and Disk1 (150gb). Problem is with disk1. 1st it was being used for Windows 7 (EFI, one main primary partition and Windows hidden system partitions) then I formatted it as FAT32 and used for backup and data.

During Windows 8.1 installation, when I was erasing partition on Disk0, accidentally / mistakenly deleted all small partitions on Disk1, didn't touch the bigger main partition of 149gb where the data is stored, now the situation is that in Windows Storage Management it's showing that partition as healthy partition but not as FAT32 but as 'Other' and I can not assign drive latter to it as all options are grayed out.

Tried some data recovery tools, can recover data using some of them but it's messed up, no folder hierarchy, no proper file names, very difficult to sort out, would you please suggest any better option, any way to recover partition to working state, or any data recovery with proper folders hierarchy?

A:Recover deleted partition table

If a partition is deleted but not formatted then it can be recovered using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Try also using PW to assign a drive letter to the data partition. How to Change Letter with partition manager - Partition Wizard Video Help.

If that fails try using Diskpart to assign a drive letter from booted Win7 installer System Recovery Options Command Line: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx

A failed partition which cannot be assigned a letter using steps above can sometimes have its table restored using DiskGenius trial.

Once you can assign a letter I'd back up your data which should have already been backed up if it has any value to it, then run Disk Check or Partition Wizard Check File System

I deleted a partion using the windows 7 installer disk. Unfortunately I was a bit click happy and deleted my secondary drive (one partition if you call it that, as it took up the whole disk). This is my data drive. I keep everything there including a lot of very large, multimedia files that I cannot live without. After picking my heart back up out of my shoe I started asking for help and downloading as many free tools as I can. None of them have worked satisfactorily. Find and Mount looked extremely promising, saying it would find a mark on the HDD where a partition had been made previously and then allowing me to mount a read only version, then copying all the files as though the partition had never been damaged, if I wanted. Funnily enough not only did it fail to find a visable or lost partition on this drive, it even failed to find working partitions on any other drive. Pfft.I've tried Paragon Partition Manager. It told me my drive had errors and to run chkdsk. I did this but it didn't help. The programme had the same errors when I tested it on another drive. Another pfft.I tried EASEUS Partition Manager. It found the files... but it copied all 253 gb of them as 'raw' files or something like that. This means they were completely out of order, no folders and renamed 'file001.jpg' etc. This is useless for me as a lot of my files are .RARs that need to be in a sequence to option or similar issues and also with over 25000 files I cannot be arsed o... In Disk Management, RIght click on the drive and set a partition and format it . . this will erase all data so be sure that is ok!

Hi Guys

I'm running XP and Lubuntu on an old pc. I recently erased my Local Disk D, which had most of my personal data on it. Local Disk C is still there and contains the XP OS.

I'm not so bothered about losing the data that was in D (the really important stuff was backed up) but Disk D took up nearly 40GB of space which I am now unable to access or utilise.

The full story is long so rather than recite it here if anyone is able to try to help it would be better if I just supply information as and when you require it.

I should say that I'm very much an IT beginner; until this all started I hadn't even heard of partitions, and sadly I'm still struggling with them.

Needless to say, very grateful for any help.

I was installing Fedora 18 and Windows XP was already installed on my primary C drive. one of my partitions deleted accidentally during installation which contained backup data. The file system was NFTS. I used EASEUS data recovery. It took too much of time and all of the files were not recovered ( or I was unable to recognize them.) I had some important flv files but they didn't recover. Please tell me some free software you may have used which may efficiently recovered the data.

Hello,

when i used my win 10 my (media) Hard disk suddenly unallocated with 2 partition one it. one of the partition was encrypted with bitlocker

Now I used window 7 ultimate and to try to recover my data I follow steps according to the great guide :
http://www.normanbauer.com/2013/07/25/how-to-recover-data-from-a-deleted-bitlocker-enabled-partition/
Now the problem was on the step to create recover.img :
when i type "repair-bde F: E:\recover.img -rp 517253-653510-042988-665027-063393-559515-700700-268211"
I get ERROR: cannot use 517253-653510-042988-665027-063393-559515-700700-268211 (the recovery key) to unlock the input volume, please try different recovery password or recovery key

I am sure that it is the right recovery key.

Hello,
Yesterday as i was working on my machine, a windows 7 ultimate OS, 64 bit, all of a sudden i saw this dialog box stuff saying CBT locker, your files have been encrypted. When i checked i discovered virtually all my files have been encrypted.

I started looking for a solution to first of all remove the virus, cos i concluded it must be a virus. After careful search, i discovered that i can remove the menace from scheduler to stop it from running anytime i start my machine.
I also used Windows essential to scan and remove the malware.

Although after removing the stuff from the scheduler, the pop-up stopped and my system boots normally unlike yesterday when it pops up whenever i restart the computer. Now how do i know its finally out and how do i recover the encrypted files?
i need help urgently because it affected some very vital documents.

Thank you,
LearnerMachin

The malware is gone when I set the pc back to a few days earlier, but all files stay encrypted to .rlwmnbe files. Changing the filename back to .pdf .doc or .jpg doesn't make them accessable again.

So the pc was set back to the infected state by making the systemrestore action undone.
I tried to run og3patcher but it couldn't find the virus/malware files to stop, I suppose because it is for a different malware/virus

The frst and addition logs are in the attachments.
I hope someone can help the files decrypt

I was infected with the CTB locker. My IT cleaned my computer from it but my files on the computer are still encripted, or at least it looks like that.
I opened the http://w7yue5dc5amppggs.onion/ page with Tor Browser as I was instructed in the message received with the CTB locker and here got the option to decrypt 1 encryted file before I pay 2,5 Bitcoins to convince me that decrypt is working. So I have uploaded 1 file with the extension "ingoauj' (all my infected files have this extension) but I received the message that this file is not encryted.

Is this possible? It says that is not encrypted but I cannot open it.

Could someone help me?

A:decrypt CTB locker encrypted files

The newest variants of CTB Locker typically encrypt all data files and rename them as a file with a 6-7 length extension with random characters. The newer variants also do not always leave a ransom note if the malware fails to change the background, like it generally does. Compounding matters, the newer CTB-Locker infection has been seen in combination with KEYHolder, Torrent Locker (fake Cryptolocker) or Cryptowall ransomware. Unfortunately, there is still no known method of decrypting your files without paying the ransom and with dual infections, that means paying both ransoms.A repository of all current knowledge regarding this infection is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CTB Locker and Critroni Ransomware Information Guide and FAQThere is also an ongoing discussion in this topic: CTB Locker or DecryptAllFiles.txt Encrypting Ransomware Support & Discussion. Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that topic discussion.ThanksThe BC Staff

My 11 year olds Compaq laptop running 8.1 has been infected by what I guess you'd call a ransom virus. The desktop screen has "Your personal files have been encrypted by CTB-Locker" running across the top and then instructions on how to pay before time runs out. Which it already has. We have none of the files backed up. The only files we are really concerned about retrieving are the photos which we can't access now. Is there any thing that can be done? I'd appreciate any help and advice that is offered. Thanks in advance.

A:personal files encrypted by CTB-Locker

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CTB Locker and Critroni Ransomware is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this topic: CTB Locker and Critroni Ransomware Information Guide and FAQReading that Guide will help you understand what CTB Locker (Critroni) does and provide information for how to deal with it. At this time there is no fix tool and no way to retrieve the private key that can be used to decrypt your files without paying the ransom.More information in these articles:New CTB-Locker campaign underway increased ransom timer and localization changesNew Critroni variant offers free test decryption and now uses CTB2 extensionAt this time there is no fix tool and unfortunately, still no known method to retrieve the private key that can be used to decrypt your files since there is no way to retrieve the private key that can be used to decrypt your files without paying the ransom. With dual infections, that means paying both ransoms. There is also an ongoing discussion in this topic: CTB Locker or DecryptAllFiles.txt Encrypting Ransomware Support & Discussion.Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that supporttopic discussion.
