Could not install the CP to a defined partition

Q: Could not install the CP to a defined partition

I wanted to install the CP to a partition I defined on my eSata drive. But it never gave me any option to select a partition. It just installed it into my Win7 C partition. Fortunately I had anticipated trouble and had made a Win7 image before I tried to install the CP. Now I got rid of the bugger and wonder how I get it to install in a double boot.

Preferred Solution: Could not install the CP to a defined partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Could not install the CP to a defined partition

Beta-fish doesnt like some dual boot installs. Took several attempts (and an image) just to get it working. Ugh!

I am continually getting the error "Run Time error 1004: Application defined or object defined error," each time a user clicks one of the cells within this excel file. It comes up as apparently a visual basic error. I've search other sites and unfortunately do not know enough about macros or excel formulas to know what to do next, so I thought I would post about it here. One user apparently has no trouble opening it while every other user has the same issue. Here is the debug code:

Private Sub Worksheet_Deactivate()

End Sub

Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142
Target.EntireRow.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
Target.EntireColumn.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
End Sub

The "Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142" portion is highlighted in yellow, so I assume that's where the error is. From there, I'm not sure what to do to change it. Please let me know as soon as possible what direction I should take.

A:run time error 1004 application defined or object defined error

To be honest...I would assume that the file is corrupt and try to replace it. All seemingly meaningful links on this error involve VBA coding and things that can go wrong with it...way overhead my head and out of my interest arena .

If it truly is a coding error (as seems implied), I would take it to the originator of that file, since it throws an error.

Very strange that e pluribus unum...manages to use it without problems .

Trying to do a clean install and my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 seems to have an aversion to putting the system reserved partion on disk 0. My HP notebook has two identical disk drives. If I boot up the windows install with both drives unallocated and do a custom install, the window where i select the partition for the install if I click new to create a partition on disk 0, it creates one partition on the whole disk. If I do the same for disk 1 it automatically creates two partitions, one for the system reserved. If I try to do that in reverse order by partioning disk 1 first it will still create two partitions on disk 1 (one for the system reserved). It wont partion disk 0 with the system reserved partition.

I tried to install windows with only disk 0 plugged to into the motherboard and that worked when i partitioned the drive during the windows install it created the system partion on disk 0. However once i had windows up in running, I plugged disk 1 (unallocated) back into the mother board and windows woudnt boot up.

I could jsut install windows on disk 1 but ive read that it is better to install it on disk 0.

A:Clean install wont partition Disk 0 with system reserved partition

Welcome to the forum.

When you tried to boot with both disks installed, did you go to the BIOS and check that disk 0 was the first in the boot priority?

As the topic says; after installation of a fresh copy from the original disc win7, my second partition "D" has been renamed itself to the Recovery Partition. You can see it only in the application "Disk Management". I do not have access into it at all. When I click the right mouse button ?help? option appears only . There are very important files to me.
I tried to use EASEUS Partition Master but I'm afraid of losing data.
Please help.

A:[SOLVED] After win7 install, 2nd partition has renamed itself to Recovery Partition

Have you taken the install disc out ? Sounds dumb but the d: partition is generally a reserved partition and indicates your CD-ROM drive, to me it looks like your install disc, the file system is UDF which is universal disc format, you have two recovery partitions on top. Remove the disk, reboot. Then choose a different letter other than D for your recovery partition.. Best to start with z

The fact that the file encryption is UDF, you will not have the ability to modify it, its not NTFS, FAT or FAT32.

Primary OS is Windows 8.1 but I need to install a Windows 7 partition for testing. I've followed threads dealing with others also having problems but they've not solved mine.
I've several SATA and one SSD HDD. Windows 8.1 is installed on SSD. I'm trying to install W7 + update 1 from msdn supplied ISO burned to DVD onto an empty 2TB HDD. I've unplugged a couple of USB flash drives. Checked that AHPI (or whatever it's called) for my SATA drives is turned on. Had safe boot off and on. Checked it's MBR partition and not GPT. I've also run through the installation problems thread.
When I get to the pictured screen, I select the empty disk and attempt to set it up but nothing happens when I press Apply and I get the following message when I press the next button. I've never had problems like this before and don't know what else I can try to fix it.

A:W7 won't install on partition. Disk drive partition problems

If the 2TB drive is empty (not used) then delete all the partitions until it's just unallocated space, then click Next to start the install. The installer will create the partitions it needs then do the install.

I have bought a powerful new computer preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and I would like to try and make future life with this computer and Windows 7 as easy as possible.

So I am wondering if I create a new separate d:\ partition and restore all my old and new programs and my data files to that d:\ partition, will all my own programs operate? For example, will Firefox operate if I install it to the new d:\ partition? And if I install Firefox to the d:\ partition will it install entirely to that new partition, or will it throw certain Firefox files into c:\windows or possibly other directories on the c:\ drive?

The reason I am asking is that it seems to me that it would be great if I could occasionally reinstall Windows 7 to the c:\ drive (after formatting the c:\ drive first). As reinstalling Windows 7 from the Recovery partition is so easy, it would be great to know that if Windows 7 becomes sluggish or develops problems at some point in the future, or if I just mess it up with configurations and I want to get back to the clean factory default, I could just reinstall it to c:\ WITHOUT losing all my own programs and my own data on the separate d:\ partition (of course I would always have been saving everything of my own to that separate d:\ partition).

What's causing me to ask this question is my recollection that back when I was using Windows 3.1, many years ago, a number of my personal programs (like Microsoft Word, for example) used to place *.in... Read more

A:Install personal programs to a partition separate from OS partition?

Some will work if installed onto a drive other than C:\

Some won't.

In any case, you'd have to re-install them to make them work, you
can't just copy them over.

I keep the OS and installed progs/apps on C:\, and nothing else. All
my progs save to D:\ and not into the C:\ drive.

I then use Image Backup to create an image of C:\ on an external drive.

This is updated monthly, or whenever I make changes to C:\.

Haven't had to re-install from scratch for over two years.

Hope this is of help to you.

I recently have posted aboutan issue with recovering from a partition whichwent fine.

So I went through to do a clean re-install of windows 7 with a boot USB to get rid of factory bloatware and when I do. it gets to the option to write to a partition it sayscan't write to a GPT partition. Which is not really a big issue as plenty of tuts to.change to MBR which I have read.

But also if it dont make it to the option to write to a partition I get an error where windows says cannot find the device drivers installation. I have spent a day trying to find a way to get drivers on there.And I dont want to convert to MBR and still get the same driver error.

Hi, all!

I've performed a goodly number of XP Repair Installs in the past, all of which have been successful. However, my latest attempts keep failing due to a problem I've never encountered before. When I reach the page that lets me select the partition I wish to "install" to, instead of an 'R' option to perform a Repair Install, I see the message:

"You chose to install XP on a partition that contains another operating system... Installing multiple operating systems on a single partition is not recommended..."!

I almost always use nLite to fold in all post-SP3 updates, but when these failed to permit a Repair Install, I tried an unmodified 32-bit OEM SP3 CD just to see if it was an nLite-related issue. But it's not -- the same thing happens.

I've read Warning 2 from the michaelstevenstech.com article about Repair Installs, which briefly discusses this situation, but the suggestions to delete boot.ini, run BootCfg /Rebuild, etc., don't solve the problem.

I need to perform a Repair Install because that particular XP Pro/SP3+ installation won't boot because of a corrupted registry hive (SYSTEM, I think). I can access that registry hive from a backup, but not only is it a bit old, I've read that the only reliable and effective way to repair a corrupted registry is to perform a Repair Install.

(If it matters, I can boot up Win 7 from a different disk if it would help).

Isn't there anythin... Read more

A:XP Repair Install instead tries to install multi-OSs on same partition?

You have to have an XP Disc that offers the Repair Install option. This option is only available on Retail versions of Windows XP. If the disc has been slipstreamed or is an OEM disc, then it will not offer this option.
To repair the boot, Boot off of the XP CD, Get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Check Disk will take awhile. Try to log in normally when it's done.
If this still fails then back in the RC type FIXBOOT and press enter, reboot and try to log in normally. If that fails, back in the RC type FIXMBR and press enter,agree, and restart and try to log in normally.

would like to reformat hard dive, but new motherboard will not detect cdrom and floppy drives. when i boot up it says that there is no array defined..... so how do i find the cdrom so i can reformat.........thanks

A:no array defined

If your mother board won't pick up or reconsize the floppy or hard drive or cd when it starts to boot watch and somewhere on the screen usually bottom left corner you will see something like to enter setup press delete.

Do this and go into set up and have the motherboard find them and then all you will have to do is accept the settings and save and exit.

The floppy you might have to tell it that it is there or another problem might be you have the cables on backwards or a pin might have gotten bent.

I know the last suggestions you might think stupid but we all do make a mistake every now and then so it won't hurt to check. Not trying to insult your intelligence.

Also you might want to check the mother board jumper settings.

That's a message that your onboard RAID controller is trying to see if it has any drives attached to it forming an array of disks, and its not finding any. If its upsetting you, try disabling the onboard RAID (which I am guessing it is) in your machine's BIOS.

Dunno why that would make your other problem happen, though ("when in enter window, every program I enter will jump to another program,it keep blinking and fool around, how to settle the problem?") - I am not sure how that is related to the RAID controller issue.

It has been a while since I have dabbled with VB so please be patient. I have been searching how to do this for a couple of days now. I am trying to create my own data type. I have done it before but cannot think how for the life of me. I want to store a number of objects and have, for example, it's height, weight, shape in a type. I don't want to simply use integer values, I can do this easily, but I would like to have, say, "Small", "Medium", "Tall" for the height and "Round", "Square" and "Triangle" for the shape, etc. As I said, I know that you can define a list of items that you want in your own type, but search as I may I cannot find reference to it. A:Startup problem where no arrays are defined

The scanning array is because you have raid enabled in the bios.

That board shows two separate raid controllers; a promise and the ati/southbridge. First of all, where do you have your drive connected? IE to the promise or ati controller.

Next if you are not using the promise, you can disable it in the bios.

Next swapping boards without a clean install is just asking for a problem. Vista is much better at this than xp however in any case, I would do a clean install.

Under Windows 7 users could setup a shortcut with auto-expansion and auto-marking that directory (sample: C:\data) in left side tree view with the following command:

%windir%\explorer.exe /n,/e,C:\data

It works fine in Win 7.

When I try to setup the same cmd/shortcut in TaskBar of Windows 8 it does not work resp. does work only partially.

Yes, on the right side the content of C:\data is shown.
But on the left side tree view the tree is NOT expanded and the directory C:\data is NOT marked.

How else can I achieve auto-expansion + auto-marking in Win 8 analog to the Win 7 command?

In addition, you could use this below instead to also have it do so without Expand to current folder turned on, but it opens Data as a separate group in the navigation pane.

%windir%\explorer.exe /n,/e,/root,C:\data

i'm trying to get rid of a shortcut that's preventing me to assign a new one. have searched the HD for .lnk -files, and there's none that would have that key combo.

would there be a way of getting a compiled view of all the shortcuts that are assigned?

i'm on 7-64, but was sometimes wondering about this for the past several years on other flavors as well.

A:who knows where the info on user-defined shortcuts is kept?

Shortcut Key Explorer is a nice small piece of software that does exactly that. It scans your computer for global, non-standard keyboard shortcuts. Free download: RJL Software - Software - Utility - Shortcut Key Explorer - Download

Trying to run an older program(Gems of Darkness) on win XP.
I've run the compatibility program, adjusted my virtual memory to fix the first 2 problems. Currently I'm receiving and Script error : handler not defined
I have tried other sites and have yet to find a fix for this problem.
I have come across other people with the same problem with different programs.
It has been suggested that it could be a problem with Quicktime.
The company (H + a) who made this game seems to no longer exist.

Any suggestions?Click to expand...

I am getting the same error message from a game called Riddle of the Sphinx. I don't know what is causing it either and have uninstalled quick time and reinstalled it and it still doesn't work.

A:Script error : handler not defined

If it needs quicktime to run, quicktime may need to run in compatability mode too. Don't know exactly how that is gonna work though.

Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. While not necessarily malware, adware is considered to go beyond the reasonable advertising that one might expect from freeware or shareware. Typically a separate program that is installed at the same time as a shareware or similar program, adware will usually continue to generate advertising even when the user is not running the originally desired program.

Thanks for the explanation
One question, what's your opinion, is trojan, or virus more dangerous, I mean, can make more damage? From your experience that is, or that you heard of.

I'm trying to install an old game for my son, Fisher Price Great Advetures: Pirate Ship. However, when I start the program I get the following error message

Script Error Handler Not Defined #file10

I've looked online for this error message, but all I can find are posting for pre-Vista operating systems.

I've tried adjusting my graphics settings (which seemed to be the thing to do on older operating systems) but I got the same error message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My son loves the game.

When support for DOS 6 was ended by Microsoft, we who wanted to continue using it, could. The same for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 2000. As long as we can find compatible hardware, we who want to use it can continue indefinitely.

But there is a worry I have about Windows XP; it requires activation. When Microsoft chooses to cease support for Windows XP, what is to keep them from simply refusing to activate it?

Is there anything in the license agreement that says we are guaranteed the use of it after its Microsoft-defined life cycle ends?

I've been a little confused over the past few hours. I'm following a tutorial and everything has gone fine up until the past few steps. Is the String "fname" defined? It's confusing as the program doesn't do anything. Even when I add "fname = "test.txt" or something similar nothing is read.

Any help appreciated.

Heres the code:

long numChar = 0;
long numLine = 0;
long numWords = 0;
String line;

line = in.readLine();

if (line != null)
numChar += line.length();
numWords += wordcount(line);

while (line != null);
System.out.println("File name: " +fname);
System.out.println("Number of characters: " + numChar);
System.out.println("Number of lines: " + numLine);
System.out.println("Number of words: " + numWords);
