Computer freezing entirely, odd pictures popping up on screen while computer turns on

Q: Computer freezing entirely, odd pictures popping up on screen while computer turns on

My laptop is a Gateway 450 ROG and it has had this problem for the last week. It will run for roughly 40 minutes, and then (even when small programs are running) it will freeze up. My mouse wont move, no command will respond and i am forced to hold the power button and shut it off.
2nd Problem, occasionally when i turn on the computer it wont boot up. The screen will turn on and stop with a dash blinking in the top left corner, not proceeding to any boot up of any kind, and just recently while i shut it down from this sort of freezing up, little pictures of pixel hearts and dots started appearing until i shut it off. This problem has gone on since i bought this computer from my brother but the pictures havent until this last week .
Here is my Hijackthis log:

Preferred Solution: Computer freezing entirely, odd pictures popping up on screen while computer turns on

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Computer freezing entirely, odd pictures popping up on screen while computer turns on

Hello snow_yehti and welcome,

Unfortunately, there is nothing readily apparent in this log. We'll run a few tools and see if any malware is revealed.

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

******************************************************

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the programOnce you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on " Recommended actions" and then select " Quarantine".
Under "Reports"Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. (Not Recommended for XP64).

------------------------------------------------

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

------------------------------------------------

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! or move them to a permanent location.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the "Temporary Files" and uncheck the box for "Scan drives for file matching" if it's checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Do NOT reboot/logoff when prompted.

------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions" **Please ensure it is set to Quarantine
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close AVG Anti-Spyware.
**AVG Anti-Spyware is compatible with most AV and anti-spyware products, and the free version will continue to be useful as a second anti-malware scanner.

-----------------------------------

Reboot into Normal Mode.

-----------------------------------

Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
Click on see report. Then click Save report

Please include the following in your next reply:

MOTHERBOARD: M3N-HD HDMI
CPU: AMD 6400 duo core
RAM: 4gigs
Video: Geforce 8900

I was playing a game when the system just turned off. Prevously, I had a few times it reboot. The system will turn on ( fans and leds' ) and HD loads and CD loads but I get no video on monitor nor do I hear any system beeps or seems like it is getting past the BIOS load. I took the machine to a shop and they said my PSU was bad... So I purchased a new one online since nobody locally carries anything above a 450w same one as I had before 700W. I installed new PSU but I get the same simptoms.

I took out the motherboard out of the case and put only 1 stick of ram in it reseated the cpu with heatsink and fan with new heat paste. Plugged in the VGA adaptor for onboard video. Plugged power into the motherboard at the main adaptor and the cPU 12v. I short the power swt to turn it on and I get the same thing. Fans turn on LED on. No beeps or video. I tried a 2nd speaker and tried again no change. Any suggestions?

A:Computer turns on but no screen

It's possible you let your computer get too hot and it burnt up the motherboard... that or possibly the graphics card... if it's getting power but not posting, then it's not your power supply, although it may have been bad too. It's either going to be your motherboard, graphics card, or processor... a failure in either three could cause it to not show up... You saying it doesn't have any bios beeps leads me to believe it's either the motherboard or the processor, not just the graphics card.

Hi,

My computer's screen recently turns off once in a few hours. Sometimes days.
Before it turns off, the computer gets stuck for 2 seconds.

I wonder if it's overheating of the CPU or something else.

What do you think?

I've connected another screen to my PC and it just turned off, so the PC itself is the problem.
Any idea what can cause this?

Ok, I've been going through some of my old stuff and found some old computers, and i've been trying to build a system from different parts. These are the following:

Videocard: 7600gt
Motherboard: P4 Titan 533 GA-8SR533
RAM: 1gb PC3200 DDR HYNIX
CPU: Pentium 4. (im 99.99% sure, but the written stuff has been rubbed off =(..)
PSU: Codegen 300W

I've built this system, took it apart, dusted it all off did EVERYTHING i can to try and fix it. When i try and turn it on, it turns on, (i can tell by the fans spinning and lights turning on the MB) but nothing comes up on the screen. I know its not the monitor because when i plugged the monitor out of the videocard, it says no signal on the screen. When i turn the computer on im pretty sure its not the videocard because the screen's power is blinking with green? (thats what i read from the internet )

So i tried my best to fix up this old computer, and the last option i need is anything involving MONEY, (Im veryyy short on money atm...)

Thankss =]

A:Computer turns on but nothing on screen

Have you installed the drivers for the 7600GT ?
That is probably not the problem, but the card may be defective... How do you know the video card is good? If not working, it may not show anything on the screen.
Can you test it in a friend's machine?

So one day a week or two ago I turned on my PC to say that it had an issue and it needed the windows installation disk to repair it. So I put the disk into the PC and I clicked repair and it took a long time but it said all issues are resolved. I was happy as I thought I solved my problem, however, to my disappointment I was wrong. The computer reset and I saw the dell logo and the loading bar moving across and everything however after I wait the screen turns black but i can still see my mouse cursor and if I move the cursor around I can see it move but just my wallpaper is not there, the windows bar is not there, my folders and shortcuts aren't there nothing is. I tried pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up task manager but that does not work. I didn't make a backup recently and I put the repair disk back in and I scan for issues and it says there are no issues. I'm at a loss here and I'm desperate. I have all of my photos that I have taken from my vacations over the past 4 years and I can't get to them so I was really hoping that you guys could help me fix my PC. If anyone could  help me I would gladly appreciate it.

Hey Jason,

Some times 3rd Party software creates conflict during the startup.
You can try booting into Safe mode with Networking and disable unwanted 3rd Party Startup Programs and services from MSCONFIG and Task Manager in case of windows 8. You can also run a malwarebytes scan to check for Malwares.

Hello everyone - I am a new member of the forum and hope that someone reading this might be able to help me with a problem I have with my computer.

In recent weeks the computer screen keeps freezing with the cursor being replaced by the hour glass symbol. This usually happens after several hours' computer usage - but sometimes it occurs soon after the computer is turned on.

When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains.

In order to be able to log back into my broadband internet connection I have to turn the computer and and off twice and then on again .

Sometimes when the computer screen image freezes a message box appears always saying "End programme" (i.e. "End programme - CiceroUIWndFrame" or "End programme - mixer").

My computer runs on the Windows XP operating system.

I changed from Internet Explorer browser 6 to 7 yesterday but the problem of the computer screen freezing persists.

Any helpful advice on this would be much appreciated.

How old is your computer? Have you ever reinstalled your OS?

What I usually recommend is if your computer is at least a couple of years old and have yet to do a clean install of your Operating System now is the time, especially when it starts acting up =)

Hi

I have a compaq computer running on windows vista home basic, I have a problem when I start the system, the desktop loads ok but then after about 30 sec the display turns white and I am unable to get the desktop back, I have restarted the system a number of times but the same thing keeps happening.
When the display turns white there is a strange message on their which you would get if you were trying to load a web-page but had no internet connection.
I have 2 users on the computer one works fine I can go in there and use the internet but the other is where I have the problem, and this is where all my work files are.

Can anyone give me any tips.

Thanks

Rick

Looks like you got a virus, I've had this one before, it opens a fullscreen internet browser which you cant click away and it whants to give you something where you have to pay for. I'd suggest you'd go to the virus removal section of this forum and repost it there.

Good luck!

Hello. I've come to hopefully find a solution to a boot up problem I'm having with my computer. There are several factors that I'm honestly not sure will play a role or not, mainly because I'm not very understanding when it comes to computers.

The problem is that when I push the power button of my computer, it sends no signal to my screen. I can't tell if it loads anything or not either. I can think of a few things that might have some effect on this, but I'm not sure.

About three months back after cleaning my neglected tower of dust and such, it started to shut off rapidly after boot up. To inspect the problem, I had a friend look at the computer. He removed the cooling unit on the Processor revealing that my 8year old computer had next to no thermal compound. So after putting of ordering some for about three months, we had applied some about 2 days ago. The computer then booted up fine, but seemed to have an excess amount of lag. So I wiped the computer and reinstalled XP tonight. When it was booted up, it worked fine, so I went into IE to download firefox as it's my preference, then started reinstalling my drivers. First I installed my Videocard, then kept my computer booted up for my sound drivers which I got from the Compaq homesite. After doing this, I rebooted my computer. Not I wanted to get simple things such as AIM and and Java. So when i go to boot up Firefox from it's default homepage, my computer shuts down. when I go to reboot it, it doesn't start and I'm ... Inverters and bad backlights can be hard to diagnose without just replacing the parts but it sounds as one or the other is out/going out.
If you check these out yourself, good luck. Laptops are a bear and unless you've done a few, a repair shop may be best.
Good luck.

Recently my computer started acting up and shutting down randomly while under high load. Now it won't even boot into the bios and I'm left with a blank screen. On my motherboard I'm getting an error 62 (Installation of PCH runtime services) and when I tried using a new graphics card, I would get an A6 error (Detection of SCSI devices). Anyone know what's going on and how I can fix these errors? I am under the assumption right now that I fried my gpu but before I just go and buy a new one I'd like to be sure my problem is not solvable without new parts.

A friend asked me to look at her Toshiba Satellite L455 Laptop. Apparently her dog chewed the power cord while her daughter was playing on it. The computer shut down. I replaced the motherboard thinking that was it and that didnt help. I replaced the screen inverter and the backlight and neither of them worked. The computer does turn on but the screen is black.. What could be the problem? If I replace the screen would that work?

First off, this is my first time on these forums, and i'm not sure if it's in the correct ones, so if an admin can move it or something? thx,

Allright, so about 2 and a year ago i bought my MSI, which i've been enjoying quite a lot. I use it daily for gaming and school related work, but 2 days ago, the screen suddenly turned black (while gaming) and then said a kind of "RRRRRR" noise. I restarted it, and it worked fine again.

Today, the computer did the same thing 4 times, expect that the screen turned light blue this time. It still said the "RRR" sound, I update my drivers regularly, and i just updated them before it happened again. Restarting works by the way.

I'm using a MSI GT663R, with these specs:
CPU: Intel core I7-720QM
VGA: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 460m / 1,5GB DDR5
LED Panel: 15,6 FHD, 1920x1080 (Glare Type)
Ram: DDRIII 6GB (2GB*3)
HDD: 1TB (500GB*2 RAID 0) 7200RPM
RF: 802.11b/g/n

That's atleast what it says on the sticker on the PC, note that i'm not very good with computers and i'm really hoping to get a simple fix, because i don't want to use money to get it repaired if not necessary.

Thank you really much in advance, i really love my PC, and it was quite expensive, for what i earn, so i really hope it isn't broken or something similar

Usually the amber color indicates a power problem... as if your power adapter or cable to the power adapter is broken, or the power socket is damaged.

Ok so, im trying to help my friend with her broken computer.
She got hit with the avsoft virus, It took me a while but I finally got malwarebytes on her system, and had to rename the .exe in order to get it to run in safemode and it seemed to have worked pretty well, i then wanted to boot it in normal mode and run a full scan to make sure we got everything.
Anyway, we were experimenting with it for whatever reason (i guess malware removal had us feeling brave) and we unhooked her monitor, and plugged her desktop computer via the monitor cord into my laptop. i know that you can plug a monitor into a laptop and use that instead of the laptop screen, so we wanted to see if it would work with the desktop instead of the monitor. You know, like use my laptop as the monitor and keyboard.
I went into the my laptops nvidia control panel and messed around with some of the settings
All of a sudden my laptop screen went black.
I just rebooted, and my laptop was fine but when we plugged her monitor back into her desktop and rebooted it would not reboot correctly.

The lights on the computer would turn on, you can hear it is running, the fans are running, it makes one beep, just like a normal startup. the screen displays a logo (not the windows logo) an everex logo for a few seconds, and then some text comes up (like normally) and looks like it proceeds to load but it flies by so quick you cant read it, and then nothing. Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I got it for my birthday, I think I got it on the 13th of September, it worked completely fine for a long time and then I can remember one day I just would not turn on, I tried and tried to get it to turn and it just wouldn't do it, the next morning it turned right on...with no problem at all, and then it was fine until about the end of January, then it turned off once and I got it to come back on after trying several times, then the next day when I went to use it again, it would turn on but the screen would not work, and it has been like this ever since, I have gone on the dell technical support website and they were no help at all. They had me taking out the hard drive, and the media board, and all of this other stuff and they didn't tell me anything, all they basically had me do was take it apart and put it back together. My father bought me this computer and it was the last birthday present I got from him before he passed away, so I am deeply attached to it. So if there is anything anyone can tell to do to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. THANK YOU.

Could be a number of things most likely your graphics card/ monitor, is your computer situated in a particulary warm or cold place?

Checked the fuse?

Is the environment particularly dusty?

Do the cables look secure in there ports?

Have you tried holding in the power button on your computer without any power leads in?

these are some basics to try, if that doesn't work we need to address a deeper issue.

My configuration is Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, X1950XTX Radeon, 2gb ram, 250HD, 500w powersupply.
So one day I'm using my computer, which had been working wonders for 3 months, and it just shuts down. Then it wouldn't turn back on, at all, no power anywhere. So, I replaced the power supply. I made no other changes other than the power supply. Now it powers up, all the fans turn on (including from the video card), LED light turns on, even the CD rom driver works but I get nothing at all on the screen. And since i get a blank screen with both of my monitors I can't see how it's a monitor problem. I also get no beeps when I turn the computer on, and although I am not sure, I think the hard drive disk spins.

I can't see how it would be the video card since it was previously working and nothing changed on that. The only thing that makes sense to me is that when the old power supply broke the motherboard or, i hope not, the CPU got damaged. Has anyone seem or heard of someone having a similar problem? What Should I try? How can I find out if its the mother board or the CPU malfunctioning? Thank you for the help.

A:Computer Turns on but Screen is Blank! Tried Everything, Please Help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First things first, when you installed the new PSU, did you connect the power cord to your graphics card? Did you connect two power connections to your motherboard? Both the 24 pin and the ATX12v connectors?

Assuming you did, I'd strip down to the basics to help with the troubleshooting. Remove your motherboard from the case, and set it on a box beside your case. Intall ONLY the cpu/heatsink, one stick of ram and your graphics card (unless you have onboard graphics as well, in which case do not install your graphics card).

Connect the case's speakers to the motherboard.

Connect your monitor to the graphics, and then use a screwdriver to quickly "short" the two pins normally connected to the case's power on switch.

Tell us exactly what happens at this point. What lights are on, what fans are spinning, and what beeps you are getting. Good luck!

Also, please give us your motherboard make/model number, as well as your PSU maker name.

Hi Everyone,
This is my first time posting on these forums. I have a dell inspiron 5447, and I love it. It looks great, and, for the most part, runs well. However, whenever I move the laptop, or even slightly touch it, whether i move the screen or touch the body of the laptop, the screen glitches on and off, sometimes a few times in quick succession. When this happens, the touchpad also disables itself, and sometimes turns itself back on, but I usually have to go in to mouse settings and disable the mousepad and reenable it for it to work. I am thinking I need to send it in to be repaired, but I am not sure what the problem could be, or how much it may cost. I am also a college student that needs a laptop, so I cannot be without one for a long time.

Thank you for your help.

But now my laptop won't shut down all the way, but the screen turns off. The keyboard's LEDs stay on, and the fan keeps blowing. It stayed that way for at least five minutes, between me getting a snack and coming back. I don't know if they reinstalled from the disc that shipped with the laptop or gave me a knew windows 7, but this particular issue only started when they reinstalled the OS.

After running my computer for approximately 10 to 20 minutes the monitor shuts down without any warning and simultaneously the sound cuts off, rending my computer unresponsive and useless. I suspect it's overheating but I have never experienced these issues before, they are obviously obstructing my work.

I have an ADM Radeon HD 5670 and I have never experienced or noticed the device reaching over 60 Celsius. The ventilator works within normal parameters as far as I can see with the Catalyst Control software and as far as I know all drivers are up-to-date.

I have posted my system information in a previous post regarding BSOD here in case it is of any relevance.

I hope someone is able to provide me with some help, I'd hate to buy a new video card.

A:Screen turns off, computer frozen.

The PC itself shuts off or is it still on? This is an important factor!

If it just completely shuts off, most likely one of these:

You could be having a power supply going bad.

You could have a dead case fan.

Thermal paste and/or heatsink/fan on CPU has failed in some way.

Heating failure is something that just shows up one day, so welcome to the wonderful world of PCs.

I assume that i need updated drivers, which i did. but that didn't work either.

After getting a couple blue screens I am having the following issue:

When I turn my computer on, the fans and drives all start up. After approx. 2 seconds the computer shuts itself off. After another 2 seconds the computer turns itself back on again. This time it stays on but i have no monitor output. I don't hear a beep which tells me it is probably not posting.

I have read a few other threads that have a similar issue but not the same. I am thinking it is either the mobo, GPU, or PSU.

I would like any guidance and assistance that you guys can give me on this specifically what i should look at first and how to diagnose. Thanks. system specs below:

ASUS P5Q Pro ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896-P3-1265-AR Video Card

A:Computer turns on, turns off then turns back on but has no video output

I have helped somebody who had a similar issue and it was the motherboard being shorted out by the case. We took the motherboard out of the case and it booted up just fine. Something you might want to try before purchasing new components.

Hello, I've been experiencing this problem off and on for the past couple of months, where the computer screen just turns fuzzy and crashes, then five seconds later is completely black (like the monitor is on but is not connected to the computer) I believe this generally happens while I'm surfing the internet (Mozilla) , often (perhaps always, I'm not sure) when I'm watching streaming video.

Ran a couple of different anti-virus programs (Adaware, Malwarebytes' Anti Malware) and Adaware turned up a bunch of cookies.

This has only happened a few times, most of the time everything's fine. Any clue on what could be going on here?

A:Computer screen turns fuzzy and crashes

Sounds like a vid driver problem to me...I'd try uninstalling current video drivers and then installing fresh ones (either from CD or manufacturer's website).

ok so the problem is that sometimes you can see the picture and sometimes you can't see it. i don't know what causes that but that's what happens. i got it working again. but after it went to sleep the screen never came back on. would that mean that there is something wrong with one of the windows files? i know one of them is the one used to bring the computer back from sleep mode. it's running windows vista. maybe this isn't a hardware issue?

I've been trying to solve this problem for over a months, going on different forums, trying to contact a one on one guy to help me, pressing all types of buttons on my keyboard but nothing seems to be working!

I have an all in one Dell desktop that refuses to display not even the start up logo. This problem happened right after I updated my computer. The update said it was going to automatically restart but it didn't and just turned off so I decided to turn it on and thats when it all begun.

I'm not 100% sure if it was the update or could be another problem. I should mention that when i turn on my computer an amber or orange light is present as if it's sleeping rather than the normal white light.

I've tried to reinstall windows on a flash drive but I'm lost and don't know where to go past the everything is installed in the flash drive now I plug it in.

I've haven't had any success in finding a solution anywhere near close so I would really appricate the help!

Heys, nice to meet everyone.
Well my first problem is that ever since i got my pc (6 yrs ago) it frequently restarted. So i turned off automatically restart & frequently got bsods. The first was DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL & the second one was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I searched on google the problems and it said something about my NIC & Sound Driver. So i decided to open up my computer and try to swap my NIC whilst in the process just check out my graphics card and my ram to see if it was faulty, After that i turned on my computer and at first it beeped, then made this screechy sound for a split second and i smelt something weird. After that i turned it off re-inserted the RAM, NIC, GC & when i turn it on i get a blank screen. Both my cd drives keep resetting or blinking and wont open up, All my fans work & the red light and green light under my power button just stays there.

Specs of my computer:
- Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
- NVIDIA Geforce4 MX440SE 64mb
- PC333 512mb RAM x 2 (1024mb)
- 80GB HD + 120GB HD
- GIGABYTE Motherboard (MODEL: GA-8SG800)

--

The BSODs are caused when i play games like; Counter-Strike & Warcraft III. Also while i listen to music using WMP10. It can sometimes just be caused from sitting there.

Hi all,

My faithful desktop of 2 years has started pushing up daisies:
I was playing GTA5 when the monitor lost connection to the computer and I had to restart. When I started back up, the message that appears after a bluescreen popped up. This started happening more and more frequently, whenever I started any game, then sometimes when I'd just have Firefox open, then about half the time I tried to start up the computer it'd happen at the login screen.

I did a Malwarebytes scan a few days before this started happening and it turned up clean, and I haven't changed the hardware in 2 years. I tried updating my video card drivers, to no avail.

The weird thing is how inconistent it is--I was able to play GTA for several hours last night, then it happened again. Sometimes it automatically restarts, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the power light flashes. Sometimes it makes me go through Startup Repair (which never finds anything).

I have no idea what could be causing this. BlueScreenView says it's a graphics driver about half the time, but not all the time. Memtest86 said the RAM was fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can post SysInfo results and the minidump files if they'd help; I'm on my laptop right now because the system in question is really unreliable.

Thanks in advance.

Hello all

Just got myself this (old) new computer, that I was going to use for a media center. But it randomly crashes, and i can't seem to figure out why. I formated it yesterday, so I doubt it would be a virus.

Sometimes it goes black, and picture returns within a few seconds, but other times it freezes up completely. When I restart it (with the power button) I cant get pasted the BIOS screen, but if I unplug the power supply, and hit the power button a few times and then plug in the power, it starts up like normal. (does that make it a RAM issue?)

Freezes have happened doing the following: Using XBMC (both in menus and while watching a video), while Internet Download Manager was running. While file transfer was running, and a few times while i wasnt at the computer.

Specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
ATI Radeon HD 5670
Intel Core i3 CPU

Phillips TV (Connected with HDMI)

Let me know if you need any other information.

A:Computer restarts on boot up before the screen even turns on

Hi ShikariAtryao. Welcome to TSF!

This could be a number of issues. Bad PSU, intermittent RAM module(s), bad device in your system, etc. If you have more than one RAM module, try removing all of them except for one and try booting again. Make sure that the one module you use is in the correct slot as well. Step through that process exchanging RAM modules until you've tried them all and see if you're able to boot.

You could also disconnect devices such as your CD/DVD player (both data and power cable) and try booting again. It's basically a process of illimination. Also check the power cable to the motherboard and such.

One other thing is to check the little cables that connect usually to the edges of the motherboard. One of them is for your HDD, one if for the POWER LED, etc. There are usually several of them. Make sure they are all seated correctly as well.

Good day!

Mike

This computer has been working since 2013, and just lately have I have been having issues. When turning on the computer, the computer sounds perfectly fine, all fans and everything works. There is no damaged, or burnt anything inside the computer. When turning on the computer my keyboard & mouse do not turn on, and the computer light works and doesn't work. I have tried everything that I can think of and anything that I have researched on the HP guides. And my computer still does not work. I have tried changing monitor, and the cables that connect to these monitors. I have bought a new PowerSupply and that made it work but once I had to restart it it did not turn back on (nothing pops onto the screen, it is black) I have a GTX Geforce 750ti FTW graphics card and nothing is damaged or misplaced. All connectors and connecitons work properly. I have reset the computer several times and it still does not work. Just now when turning on the computer the light (the botton) does not turn on, but the computer does indeed turn on. I don't understand that if there was something seriously wrong with the computer why it would sometimes work and sometimes not? If the motherboard was bad it wouldn't be working period, let alone working.  I really need some help, thank you.

Hello everyone, I'm new here, and I want to start by saying I have minimal experience with my computer (I just built it yesterday using a YouTube video to guide me) so when replying with an answer, don't hesitate to ask obvious questions.

I built my gaming computer yesterday, and it turned on, I installed Windows 10, and everything was working fine. However just a while ago, I took out one of the smaller cables that goes into the CD drive (not the one that supplies power, but the other one) and connected it to my hard drive, because I only had two of those cables and one was going into my SSD. I wanted my computer to detect both hard drives, so I went into the BIOS, and I saw that it acknowledged both hard drives, and then I clicked save and reset. Unfortunately, the new problem is, my monitor won't display anything. It was working 100% fine, and all I did was change the smaller cable from the CD drive to the hard drive, and now my monitor won't display. The cables going into the SSD and the HDD are both connected into the SATA ports on my motherboard, and they both are also connected to my power supply. I have checked to see if it was the monitor by some unlucky chance, and it is working fine (I plugged it into another computer, using the same power outlets, so it's not the outlets either). My computer turns on, and I hear no beeps or anything, and my screen does not display "no input" or anything like that, it simply has a black screen, the monitor is on, and c... Read more

Fitted the motherboad today and put in a larger PSU. It powers up but nothing is displayed on my screen. Have tried a PCI Express graphics card and an old PCI graphics card but neither seem to output anything to the screen.

The PCI Express graphics card was working fine in the computer before it broke.

Another possible problem would be the CPU rather than the graphics card. I have tried 3 different processors (the one that was in the previous motherboard and two others) but using a different processor doesn't do anything.

Would it be right to assume that this must be a graphics card problem?

Could it be something else entirely?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is starting to frustrate me,
Thanks,
Michael

Got the computer from a family member, I tried fixing it for them first and I thought it was the video card so I tried a different one and still nothing. So it was unplugged and stored for months then they just gave it to me. Well I took it home and started messing with it turned it on a cple of times nothing. Moved wires around put different psu in nothing, put it back to normal it started right up powered screen up I got into windows but it had a lot of lag so I went to restart it so I could do a fresh install and screen shut off... note when it wasn't working before this point the cpu fan ran at full rpm when turned on but slowed down when it worked this first time. I turned it on and off cple times nothing unplugged psuand back in it worked enough to reinstall windows and went to restart nothing. When plugged my speakers in to see if it beeps it started up! Its toying with me, restarted it again nothing so next try I pushed on the cpu thinking the mobo was bad it started up and woked for a cple restarts and quit... I tightened. The mobo screws down to the case and worked for awhile and then started acting up on restart. It will turn on once after it sits awhile unplugged with the bios battery out. I'm confused... bad bios or the mobo? I have unplugged all things that aren't needed for start up different hd with same effect. Only thing I haven't tried yet is the ram. I'm at work and will mess with it more later. Its a compaq presario or w.e amd 3800+ 2.4 ght proc two 512m... Read more

A:computer turns on but screen stays black

The PSU was probably bad, replacing it should have fixed it. There may be bad caps on the motherboard or something is grounding on the MOBO to the case and causing it to not boot. Take everything apart. Take Heat Sync off of processor and apply Thermal Paste. Take MOBO out of case and check to see if there are any burn marks, bad caps, or if there are any risers missing off the case keeping the MOBO from touching the case.

Well it started awhile back when my PSU died so I got a new better one, but the computer would still turn on but stay at a blank screen. I tested my parts and came to the conclusion that it was either my mobo or CPU or both, so I went to the store and got a new Asus mobo and a sempron chip and installed them. The computer still has the same problem and I don't know why and what to do. Sorry for my english and any help is much appreciated.

Please use descriptive thread titles from now on.Thanks.

A:Computer turns on, but I get a blank screen after replacing bad psu.

So how did you test your parts?

Start with a minimal system - nothing but mobo, PSU, video, CPU and a single RAM module. Preferrably not in the computer case but on a nonconductive surface like a wooden desk.

If it doesn't work, replace the video (if external) and RAM.

Look over your habits. Did you take anti-static precautions when putting the thing together? (Something as basic as touching the computer case or the PSU before touching any other components.) Did you happen to work on the thing while it was plugged on and you dropped a screw on the motherboard?
