loss of connectivity to mouse and keyboard

Q: loss of connectivity to mouse and keyboard

So this issue started with my new build. Originally I was using a Logitech G19 keyboard and Logitech Performance MX mouse. After building the PC, I updated to the latest BIOS version. After installing Windows and during the numerous reboots when installing updates/patches, I noticed that sometimes as Windows was loading, my keyboard would not be lit and thus I could not enter my password into the login screen. A reboot or two would usually resolve the issue so I was just dealing with it.

Now, starting two weeks ago when I upgraded to a Razer BlackWidow Chroma keyboard and a Razer DeathAdder Chroma mouse, EVERY time that I boot, the keyboard/mouse will light when the PC is powered on and remain lit until Windows splash screen. Then, right before the login screen appears, the mouse and keyboard lights will go off and I will not be able to login to Windows (ie: keyboard and mouse do not function). However, if I move the mouse as the lights go out, the lights will come back on and both will remain operational.

As this occurs towards the end of Windows loading, I'm leaning towards this being a Windows issue. I've just never seen this before and have no idea how to fix it.

I can give the full hardware specs if needed (or you can check my system details to the left), although I don't see how other hardware would be a factor.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

when I boot the computer, I do not have access to the keyboard or mouse. System restore is turned off. THe keyboard works in the boot menu and in bios. bios shows the mouse and keyboard enabled. I tested the mouse on another system, and it worked fine. I also tested another mouse on this system and it failed to work in the same way. If I go to last good config in the boot menu, I can boot and have use of the keyboard but not the mouse. I cannot get into safe mode because it won't let me do a combination of last good boot and safe mode, so I cannot type anything in the login window. When I go to last good boot and navigate via keyboard to the device manager, there is no entry for the mouse. when I open the control panel and then open mouse properties and go to the hardware tab, it shows no driver and no mouse.

The fact that there seems to be a logic to this leads me to believe it is a virus or rootkit of some sort rather than a hardware problem.

ANy help getting my computer back would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to avoid a reformat.

Hey everyone.

I hope this is the correct place for this kind of problem.

I would say, about two months or so ago, i starten having the problem where devices that are plugged in to the USB ports stopped responding.

Mouse went dead (Using the Logitech G9x, and the "sensitivity" light would start flashing)
Keyboard went dead
Headset sort of died, i still had sound, but i am unable to use voice.

Only solution was a "hard shutdown" of the computer.

The problem have been there since then, with an average crash every other day, and some days up to 3-4 times.

I'm not sure what other information i should add, but let me know and i will supply it.

Thanks in advance

p.s. Might also add that during this time i have also had quite a few randomly apearing BSOD

In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Goon opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and itwill highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detaileddescription of that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These arevery detailed and are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

Good day,

Everything on my computer was fine this morning when I left for week, but upon my return I noticed that my keyboard/mouse wasn't working. I restarted my computer and confirmed that my keyboard works in the bios and whatnot, but when I get to the windows login screen, I get no response from the keyboard or mouse.

The mouse is a simple USB one, and I'm using a PS/2 keyboard, so I doubt it's some sort of sudden driver issue.
I tried logging into safemode, and I get the same result, can't move my mouse or use my keyboard.

Does anyone have any idea how to possibly fix this issue? I'm unable to restore from an earlier state either.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Sudden loss of keyboard/mouse input

Do you have a Windows Disk? If so you can boot to that and choose the repair option instead of the install.
If you don't have a Windows disk, can try another mouse and keyboard. If another mouse and keyboard work then the keyboard and mouse drivers can be removed and windows will automatically reinstall them on boot.

Suddenly after starting the computer and going online there was a loud buzz on my stereo output. The output goes from my optical audio. This has never happened before. I flipped the receiver to radio and it's fine. Typing on my backup computer now. The sound from this computer to a different input on the same receiver is fine.

The mouse and keyboard are fine here too. But none of my mice or keyboards work on my main computer. I have a wired mouse and keyboard bridging the two computers with a KVM so they can share the same screen too. On the main computer I also have a couple of mice and a keyboard attached wirelessly. This setup has been fine for a long time. Years.

But with the mouse and keyboard unresponsive (I've unplugged all but the wired one), there's no way to shut it down safely.

Can someone provide a plan to diagnose the problem or tell me how you solved a similar problem please?

A:Buzzing on audio output and loss of mouse/keyboard:can't shut down

First up is the machine listed in system specs the problem machine? Also have you tried other mice or keyboards wired or not on the problem machine.
Even if you can get at least a keyboard to work you can safely shut down using that.

Now the set up I do have a problem imagining it in my minds eye it sounds quite complicated. having said that if it has gone for years like that then maybe you have some serious hardware problems with either the plug in devices, the machine components or both.

Now I have Googled KVM (never head of that abbreviation and never used one) and find it is a piece of equipment too that could be going south?

I purchased a A485 and worked well but quickly replaced Mech harddrive with SSD. After reinstalling windows 10 I noticed I loss the function of the backlit keyboard, as well as my mouse cursor kept freeze when using the Track point when I would use the middle button for scrolling. all drivers up-to-date and even tried reinstalling windows and drivers again...still have this issue the mouse freezing is the must fustrating since I primarily use the Trackpoint to control my mouse functions. I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

Hello, I have been having a problem recently with my desktop's wireless connections. I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Hi Murpg,Sorry for the delay, this forum is swamped right now.Because it has been quite a while, I need to see a fresh HijackThis log. Before you run the new HijackThis scan I want you to replace your old version of the program with a new one. Please delete the version currently on your computer, then click here and download the new version to your desktop. To use HijackThis, double-click on the icon. When it runs it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis. If you would like to extract it to another location you can change the directory. When it is done installing, HijackThis will automatically launch. When the license agreement appears, select I accept and then click on the Do a system scan only button. When the scan is complete, click on the Save Log button to create a log of your information. When you post the new log, please post it directly in the body of your reply, rather than attaching the file.Dave

Hey all:

I'm having a MAJOR problem with one of my computers. Dell Dimension 8300, approximately 2.5 years old.

Symptom: I lose internet connectivity after a variable period of time of being logged into my computer. I can actually ping and do tracerts to verify that I can "see" the internet. But, my any other methods of accessing the internet do not work! I can't surf using a web-browser, my IM clients do not work, and I can't play any of the online games. Recent changes: I added a computer to my network about 10 days ago. I also put the Dell and the new computer on a Belkin KVM switch (soft switch). I put a third (existing) computer on a wireless interface, but this was done AFTER the problems started occurring. I'm traveling in Hungary and I've encountered a problem that I can't figure out how to solve. I've got my Asus EeePC 1000H with Windows XP Professional SP3. I'm trying to connect to the Internet via my Apple AirPort express which is plugged into my friend's wired router. It's acting as an access point. Everything works fine in Ubuntu, but not in Windows.

I have no internet access in Windows. The output of ipconfig doesn't show a default gateway, but everything else is correct. Setting it manually does not help. However, if I run the stack repairs and reboot, I get internet access for a few minutes (somewhere around 10 minutes) at which point it stops. However, the output of ipconfig shows the correct default gateway.

I've scanned for malware with AVG and MalwareBytes, but neither find anything. Nothing interesting shows up in HJT either. I've tried using System Restore to restore an older registry, etc, but still nothing. Running the netsh int ip reset reset.log command brings back connectivity on reboot for about ten minutes.

So, I think I must have missed something obvious.

Thanks guys.

I regularly get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pages when surfing the internet. My internet cuts off for any other programs using the connection as well. Every time it happens a tool pops up asking me to "diagnose connection problems." After identifying the problem, Windows states that the computer has limited or no connectivity and offers me 3 solutions. 1. Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Local Area Network" 2. Try turning off modem, unplugging it and restarting, or 3. Reset the network adapter "Local Area Network."

All three solutions work for a time But the problem keeps persisting afterwards. Some days it will only do it once or twice. Other days it does it 3 times in 30 miniutes. Usually its not a big deal, since the repair always works, but if right in the middle of DL a large file, they often come through corrupted after the restart. Any help on how to alleviate this problem permanently would help greatly. Thanks in advance.

I've tried the help desk of my ISP and the help desk of NetGear and I still don't have a solution. So, I turn to the people who REALLY know what's going on, TechGuy.

I have an ADSL connection for my internet connection at home. The phone line is connected to an Alcatel SpeedTouch Home modem. I have the LAN connection of that modem going into the internet port of a NetGear RP614 DSL router/switch. Both devices are up to date on all firmware (at least as far as I can find from the manufacturers pages). My PC is running Windows XP Home edition and I'm using a NetGear NIC.

For the most part, on initial power up, everything works fine. However, regardless of whether or not a user is logged into the PC, the router will occasionally lose sync with the DSL Modem. By the indicator lights on the modem, it is functioning normally. Likewise, the indicator lights on the router appear as if it's functioning correctly. But no connectivity through the router to the internet is available without first cycling the power on the router and letting it re-connect to the internet connection.

Internal networking appears to be fine (using DHCP on the router to connect my two PC's on a LAN). I can browse my local network fine, access shares, and print on the shared printer. But internet connectivity is not available.

I need some advice as to how to proceed from here. I've found a few articles on the net concerning the Speedtouch home modem doing something called ... Read more

I can ping any IP address without getting a time out. I can do "nslookup," and it gives me my DNS IP at Verizon.

When I perform a "tracert" using the 64.233.167.99 IP, it does 30 hops and returns. However, when I use "tracert google.com" I get: "Unable to resolve target system name google.com."

I flushed the DNS. I have changed the IP address. I have switched off the Wi-Fi. I just changed the DNS to another that Verizon uses, and get the same "cannot display the Webpage."

It sounds like a DNS problem if it cannot resolve the web page's name to an IP address. I just do not know what else to do.

Any help would be highly appreicated

Heya,

This has been an issue since I upgraded to 7201. It isn't constant, and seems to be worse when I'm downloading large files, especially multiple files from one source (like an album in iTunes). It is fixed by release/renew (or just letting Diagnostics do that).

If I'm not using a lot of data (regular web browsing, working on a database online, etc), it seems perfectly fine. It is holding so far downloading one track at a time on iTunes, but if I do 2, it drops the connection.

I'm using the Home network config, router is working normally, and I can't recall this happening before 7201. I've reset the router, upgraded firmware, and it only happens on this PC. I've set WINS, tried all settings for TCP/IP 4 and 6, and using the other ethernet port on my motherboard.

More of an annoyance, really, but I can't figure it out and it is bugging the hell out of me.

EDIT:

I can still get 1 mb/s on a single download, but trying 2, I get 600/400 for about 10-15 seconds until it disconnects.

A:Loss of network connectivity

I'm not sure if it's a related problem but I'm running 7100 and in the past week I've started getting frequent loss of internet connectivity while downloading torrents. Disabling/enabling the network adapter fixes it but sometimes it'll be less than a minute before it goes again, or up to an hour.

Again, it doesn't seem to happen during regular browsing while not downloading. I'm on a wired connection btw, my NC10 running windows 7100 and iphone can access the internet fine (wirelessly) during these disconnects, which rules out a router issue.

Raynian - Welcome to SF,

Are you using any 3rd party utility software to wireless connect?

If you're using a laptop, is there an On/Off switch to activate your wireless?

If that's not an option for you try to disable and enable your wireless connection.

Ok Im at a loss with this one but I figured I would make a post to see what others think.

First my computer specs although I dont think that it's too relavent here.

Intel Quad Q6700
4GB OCZ DDR2
Vista Ultimate x64
Nvidia GTX 260

Now the problem I am having I first noticed when I would play online games, and randomly my ping or latency would jump up by about 30-70ms. Some days it would be fine and others it wouldnt. I read on alot of forums people having similar issues since im running on wireless and Vista equivilent to WZC checks for networks every 60 seconds or so. But after doing all the solutions I could find with that, it still didnt fix anything. Also my problem is random like I said, and not something that seems to happen every 60 seconds as it did with other people.

Ive checked the router and swapped the Linksys speedbooster with a Netgear N, but that didnt make a difference. My computer was scanned for spyware and virus's with a combination of programs including Kapirsky and Spybot. It's clean. It seemed as if it was the wireless card at first glance since it's an old crappy DLink with rigged drivers to work on Vista. But even the computer in the other room was experiences ping issues when I tested it. I was however unable to test how the other computer performed in the video game since I can't install it on there.

Here are two screenshots of continuous pings I did both to the router and to the outside internet (yahoo.com) from my wirele... Read more

Yes, that's almost certainly the ISP. Truthfully, those changes are not totally unexpected.
Run a few of these tests and post the results links.
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

This may turn out to be a malware problem. For that I have a plan. I posted the problem in the network forum to gather your thoughts & advice as to how to approach the issue from a networking standpoint.

About a month ago, the LAN began losing connectivity. The office closes at 1530 & re-opens at 0630. The computers are left on all of the time. The loss occurs between 1530 & 0630.

Network consists of 14 PCs, in 2 locations. "A" & "B" are separated by about 500 meters, connected by a fiber optic line.

Also, the local server connects to a server, remote by a distance of hundreds of miles. This is supposed to occur at night.

The site has 2 locations; 4 PCs & a server at "A"; 10 PCs at "B". The server runs Win 2000 Pro SP4. The PCs are a mix of Win 2000 Pro SP4 & Win XP Pro SP2. All PCs & the server run Symantec AV Corporate. All 14 users are supposed to store their data on the server at "A".

Internet is currently DSL , at 128 kbps. A T1 line will be installed within the next 30 days.

The computers arrive from the remote, corporate office, configured for the local LAN, with Symantec AV Corp, static IP addresses, et al. The local office has no IT person on staff.

"A" is staffed by users who state they do not engage in dangerous internet activities. "B" is staffed by users who, among other things, play "Party Poker" at lunch time. They have been playing PP for &... Read more

A:Solved: Connectivity Loss

You're far ahead of me on this whole issue, but I'll throw out a couple ideas in case you can build on any of them.

"... get onto the network by unplugging the power of the SpeedStream 5871 modem, Cisco PIX firewall & HP router & turning off all of the computers ... "

No way to tell from this where the disconnect occurs--ISP/modem? modem/router? router/computers? Maybe you already know, but it would certainly help to know if the computers can still communicate with (ping) the router in the morning; or if the router still has an internet connection; etc. Has anybody tried to reconnect by trying just one of the quoted fixes?

Phone lines and coax cables can give slower service and/or disconnects in colder (or hotter) weather because of an insecure connection or a faulty component. W/o any knowledge I'm guessing that fiber optic connections can also be imperfect. So it is not impossible that the cold is an issue.

Hello,

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a number of problems with my internet that have culminated in a loss of connectivity. When I open the wireless networks available none of the previous options are shown apart from an unsecured network called meshnet. I know that there is no problem with the standard network as my phone uses it and so does my flatmate with his laptop.

Prior to this happening I was continually being redirected to different web pages than the ones I had selected and they all contained admarketplace somewhere in the address.

I can only assume that this is some sort of virus but I have no idea how best to get rid of it as AVG 9.0 cannot identify any problems with my system. I tried to restore the computer to an earlier point but this is always unsuccessful.

I am not really sure what other information I can give you at this stage. I would like to know if it is possible to clean my laptop but if not I should have access to the original setup material if a reformat is required.

Thanks in advance.

Like some other recent posts, I have experienced a sudden loss of connectivity among my home network. I can access the internet from all the networked pc's.

Here are the details: I have 3 pc's on my network - 2 desktops (hardwired) and a laptop (wireless). Cable modem connected to a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. Desktop pc's connected to router with cables.

The desktop pc's can each "see" the shared folders on the laptop and access, copy or delete the files. However, the laptop can't "see" either desktop pc's shared folders, nor can either desktop pc "see" the other's shared folders. I can search for the computer and find it as well as see it if I explore the entire network, but I get the standard error message that I do not have permissions and the like.

I am running CA EZArmor Firewall on each pc.

Here's what I have tried: Completely removing the Firewall, then uninstalling the network connections (Client for MS Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks.) Then I reboot and reinstall the network stuff, then reinstall the firewall. This did help one pc regain access to the laptop, but this process didn't work for the other pc's.

When I run the network setup wizard, I select "..connects to the internet through a residential gateway...". I've tried the other choices with no success.

I am an experienced pc user and have always been able... Read more

"..connects to the internet through a residential gateway..."

That is the correct choice.

Firewall is always the first suspect for this type of problem. If you had complete connectivity and lost it without installing or reconfiguring a firewall, than it's probably not the firewall.

Again, if you had complete connectivity, made no firewall or network changes, and suddenly couldn't access, I'd guess you have some kind of corruption. If so, the fix is either a simple registry fix, or a clean reinstall of XP. Whoops, I assumed you had XP. Anyhow, take a look at this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/t371938.html

So now im convinced, something in myspace is causing my problem. I have an SMC 2804wbr wireless router and i am cabled . the other computers in the house r connected via wireless cards. I have the same issue when i browse myspace using my wireless laptop so it doesnt matter how i connect, it causes my router to hang and no internet. one thing i havent tried is viewing other computers on my network or not to rule out wether it is totally frozen or if im just losing internet. I have to power cycle the router to regain connection.
Can someone suggest how i can narrow this down to find the precise cause? im toooootally stumped.
Thanks!

Help !!!

Situation so far:-

HP laptop with in-built WiFi adaptor running Vista SP1, connecting by wireless to D-Link router on home network. All working OK until today. Used laptop this morning OK, then shut down. When switched on this afternoon, no longer able to make wif-fi connection.

Checked that all IP settings correct. WiFi software seems to see other networks in my areas - and even connected briefly to one! - so physical adaptor probably OK. Router reports no obvious problem and I can link to it OK with another old XP SP3 laptop, so probably a problem specific to the Vista machine. Windows reports 'timeout error' whenever I try to connect to my own network. I have deleted existing network entry, re-booted and re-submitted several times with no luck. It appears to be some problem about the security keys - see the event log extract at the end of this message.

One possible clue......when I shut down the laptop this AM it ran some Windows updates. Might this have a connection ? (excuse the pun!) I tried to roll them back later on, but System restore failed

Just upgraded to 7 from Vista and have immediately faced a number of issues.

For starters, and relevant to this forum, my internet connectivity. After a restart I can connect to my wireless network, but after less than 10 seconds the computer looses connectivity, telling me suddenly that I have local access only. The thing is, the computer is getting an IP from the router (as verified by both accessing the router admin from another computer and an ipconfig query).

I have already tried updating the display driver, which then really messed things up (would not even recognize the internal network adapter) and I did another install of the OS.

Additionally, the system's shut down is incredibly slow. I cannot say that I have watched the whole cycle, I usually leave the room after 10 minutes or so and wander back later to find it booted up. This has made troubleshooting the issue incredibly time consuming and frustrating. Any ideas?

A:Loss of network connectivity after a few seconds

Local access only is sometimes a DNS problem - you could try specifying your ISP's DNS servers and see what happens... did you 'upgrade' or reinstall Windows 7?

I recently upgraded to my Telco's (Qwest) 1.5 Mbit DSL service from the 640K service and have been experiencing intermittent connectivity problems ever since. My old setup involved a Cisco 675 DSL modem and separate Linksys Wireless router/4-port switch. Never had a problem with these.

The new gear is an all-in-one Actiontec GT701-WG Wireless G router with a built in DSL modem. I have a static IP address.

I am running Windows XP Pro and IE6 all patched with the latest and greatest.

Frequently (6 times already today), I will click on a link, choose from favorites or type in a URL and I get the dreaded "page not found" error. Frequently, if I close the browser and then restart it, I get a "connecting to 1.0.0.0" message at the bottom of the browser and no home page. If I stop the connection attempt, I can usually type in a URL and it will go there *except* for my home page (www.cnn.com). Once I get the dreaded 1.0.0.0 I cannot go to my homepage even if I type in the URL.

I have already tried running netshell to reset IP configuration (netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt) and flushing DNS (ipconfig \flushdns). The problem persists. I have removed IE and resinstalled through Add/Remove Programs. The problem persists.

I can successfully ping the Actiontec DSL gateway but not the ISP supplied DNS IP addresses (even when everything is working properly).

I only have this problem with the PC connected to the DSL gateway through the ethernet cable. The two... Read more

I can surf the net at full speed all day long no problems what so ever. Until I start a large download, by large I mean anything over say 250mb. At that point my browser (Fire Fox) will cease to load pages as will IE. My download however will continue and my MSN messenger will not disconnect nor will my Thunderbird unless I close it first. If I close MSN it will fail to reconnect indefinitely until I completely reboot my computer then all of a sudden everything is back to normal. Hey there! This issue I have has been bugging me, and I don't quite get what's causing it. For some reason my wireless internet connection likes to keep dying on me. One moment I'll be on AIM talking to a friend, the next I'll lose my connection and have to go downstairs and reset my router. Yet, when I check for connectivity, my signal is PERFECT. What's the deal?

Today especially my internet has kept dying, and I've had to keep resetting it. I can do up to a few hours and sometimes only a few minutes without it crapping out on me. As of this moment I haven't lost my connection for maybe a good 7-10 minutes.

Two days ago I lost internet connectivity suddenly on my desktop (Dell XPS 630i, onboard Nvidia network controller, running windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) and have been unable to restore it. As my laptop (winXP sp3) can still connect to the internet and the router settings have not been changed (Dlink DGL4500), I'm making the assuption that my networking problem resides on my desktop alone. the network adapter gives me a 'limited connectivity' symbol and refuses to connect to my network, even though the router acknowledges the desktop's wired connection. The troubleshooting diagnostic sometimes finds nothing, sometimes finds that the computer is not obtaining a proper IP, and sometimes claims the problem is the router. I've also disabled windows firewall. Throughout this whole process I have been getting a 'Drive Power State Failure' BSOD during restarts (about once every four or five restarts, not consistently). At first I was unable to replace the drivers or uninstall the adapter through device manager. After reinstalling the drivers using the Nforce 650SLI drivers on their website, I was able to do this, but this did not solve the problem. I have a 1 yr old Dell Inspiron 530s from a client. They never opened the box and let the computer sit for the past year. So, it is essentially brand new. The OS is Vista Home Prem. x64. Upon setting up the unit (and I've set up hundreds of new computers), it intermittently loses it's network connectivity.

I have it connected to a Motorola Surfboard cable modem w/ Comcast as the ISP. Other systems, which I hook up to this connection, have zero issue.

I've run a ping test with the (-t) switch... it will show about 4 to 5 replies each w/ a normal speed of somewhere between 11 & 50 ms. Then, it will stall & either tell me that it cannot find the host or the ping location. Or, will show a reply but the speed will be 2000 to 3000 ms.

I've tried disabling the onboard NIC & installing a 10/100 NIC (w/ x64 capability)... exact same issue. I then moved the secondary NIC to a different ISO slot... same issue.

I have now purchased an Intellinet USB 2.0 adapter. EXACT same issue.

I'm guessing, at this point, that it is an issue with the motherboard.

Has anyone EVER seen something like this? Is this a known issue with Vista Home Premium, or with Vista x64 environments?

THANK YOU!

Seph

Hi, I would appreciate any help you can offer with the following problem I am experiencing.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista Home Premium, and I am using a Hutchison 3G USB Broadband Modem. I have used it for nearly a year with no problems until recently.

Basically, I connect to the internet via the usb modem and all is fine for a approx 7-10 minutes, then I am unable to browse pages and all internet applications (msn, skype) fail. The first time this happened I clicked the modem's icon to see if I was still connected. It showed that I was connected and that I was still sending data (I could see the MB figure rising), but the figure showing the amount of data I was receiving had stopped climbing. I disconnected and then reconnected, but the same thing happened after about 7-10 minutes.

This is a continuous problem and I have spent hours reconnecting. Sometimes I will be lucky and I will be able to use the internet for up to an hour before it cuts out, but other times when I am forced to reconnect, it can often take several attempts to get the "receiving data" figure to start rising, and until it does, I cannot access the web at all.

I called my ISP, and told them of the problem. They have said there is no problems with their servers and that the signal is very strong in my area. They got me to perform a manual connection to their network on the modem's software, but this has solved nothing.

A short while ago, after I lost connectivity, but befor... Read more

hello again, mates...(it's been years, i think)...

just came over from XP Pro...had to get a 64-Bit machine; & went w/ an ASUS running Win7 Home...which I upgraded to Pro.

I began to lose my internet connectivity, intermittantly...& noticed that, when it happened, the Network icon in the task bar showed TWO networks...(???)...

...one labeled 'Network - No Internet Access'...

...& the other labeled: 'Unidentified Network - No Internet Access'.

Sometimes the problem would go away if i rebooted, but eventually it became a permanent dilemna.

Verizon checked my modem...said it was fine, but sent me a new one anyway. Same problem continued.

Took the PC back to Best But & swapped it for a new one...& it's been fine 'till this evening. It denied me access once...I rebooted; & got it back.

Obviously, something is amis w/ Win 7 Pro in the way the network connection is set up...can't be two modems or two computers.

anyone have any thoughts on how to rectify this problem...???

thanx,

I don't know if it was before or after all this, but i began getting pop ups from sites i know do not have pop ups, like my own. ran all the programs again. the same offenders keep popping up... i have posted my logs on this site but sadly no one had responded.

anyway, now every time i restart my computer, I get a dll error. every time it is a different dll. also, when on for an extended amount of time, say overnight, i lose internet connectivity, even though my cable modem is showing that there is lots of activity going on...

can anyone givew me a clue what's going on, or where i can begin looking? should i just scrap it all and reformat my computer?

thanks

A:Solved: dll errors, ad ware, loss of connectivity
