Tecra M10 - BIOS update says "This computer is not supported"

Q: Tecra M10 - BIOS update says "This computer is not supported"

Recently been given an M10-10I to reinstall the OS. WinXP wont install at all so am trying to update the BIOS as it seems quite old (V1.5). Latest (and only available) version for this machine appears to be V3.0. Download and attempt to run the file "P0065V300" and get the message:

TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.3.3.0
This computer is not supported

What can I do? Its supposed to be for this model!

Also would prefer a boot disk version but hey I can use a Windows version assuming it will run on Win7.

Preferred Solution: Tecra M10 - BIOS update says "This computer is not supported"

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Tecra M10 - BIOS update says "This computer is not supported"

Hi

Tecra M10-10I belongs to the PTMB1E series and according to the Toshiba EU driver page, the BIOS v3.00-WIN is the latest BIOS version which is available for this model.

The BIOS update requires some additional Toshiba tools like VAP (value added package for Win 7)

If this driver isn?t installed, the BIOS update would not work.

Hello,

My laptop is a Tecra R10-10J PartNumber PTRB1E-00D002FR, BIOS version 1.40 13/11/2008.

I recently purchased and installed two 4GB RAM modules (8GB). Entering BIOS setup, I see 8GB detected. Windows 7 64bit also detects 8GB but only uses 3,80! MemTest and CPU-Z diagnosis are good for entire 8GB. I switched RAM modules from one slot to the other but nothing changed. If I replace one 4GB memory module by a 2GB, Windows 7 uses 5,80 which is well. Same result whichever 4GB memory module or slot I use.

I assume that issue comes from BIOS. Version 1.40 does not support Memory Mapped I/O feature.

So I followed instructions on "http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/?download_drivers_bios.jsp?" to find last good BIOS update package for Tecra R10-10J. I downloaded and executed BIOS310?.exe but received error message "This computer is not supported"?.

Is anyone can tell me how to update my BIOS or is anyone has a better idea to enable full support of 8GB RAM?

Thank's to all !

Hi

You should install the VAP (value added package) or if this package is already installed, you should reinstall/update this.

Disable Antivirus software and disable security things like firewall etc?

Hope you have luck...

Hi

Is the a reason to update the BIOS or do you want to update the BIOS just because new BIOS is available?
Do you have an serious issues with the notebook?

I did not update the BIOS even if new BIOS is available for my notebook because I?ve got no issues.

However, the BIOS requires the VAP (value added package).
This package can be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page?
If there is some problem with VAP, the BIOS update would not start.

So reinstall this VAP to check if this helps?

Hi

Did you install the VAP (value added package)?

The VAP is necessary in order to run some Toshiba tools and to update the BIOS.
I found a threads with the same error message but the user used Win XP.

The issue could be solved by installation of Common Modules (only for Win XP).
But the VAP is released for Vista and Win 7 and common modules are within the VAP package.

There are many problems with this Tecra A10.

As Windows Xp is off, I tried Windows 7 which is too awkward, so I wanted to try different OSes from eSATA. Although i could install Lubuntu to the eSATA it didn't want to boot (no hard disk inside anymore) from eSATA, but booted from USB.

Read in the forum, and put the Windows 7 Home 32 disk inside again and downloaded the BIOS update only to get a "not supported" answer.

The A10 has a Windows Vista Business sticker beneath, is that the only OS from which this Tecra can get it's BIOS updated?

We don't have any Windows Vista disks.

Installing Windows 2000 or XP is really time consuming, same for 9x.

The latest beta demoCD with eComStation, todays OS/2Warp, works fine on this Tecra, it has Windows 3.11 integrated, will that do? Installing Windows 3.11 to an SD card should also be swift and possible. If there are drivers available?

ReactOS (freeWindowsXP) is usually capable of booting, but it's still in alpha stage!

What about plain DOS? There are liveCDs with DOS.

One can also find Vista LiveCDs socalled VistaPE CDs on the net, but their origin is unknown.

What is the best option? Is there only one option?

A:Tecra A10-12Z BIOS 1.6 wanted to upgrade to 3, but "not supported" - W7H32

Hi

>Although i could install Lubuntu to the eSATA it didn't want to boot (no hard disk inside anymore) from eSATA, but booted from USB
I assume the BIOS does not support the booting from eSATA port but just from USB port.
But this is just an idea... this should be checked once again within the BIOS settings.
Maybe an BIOS update would help too.

>Read in the forum, and put the Windows 7 Home 32 disk inside again and downloaded the BIOS update only to get a "not supported" answer.

BIOS update can be executed from running Windows system only. But the BIOS update requires also some additional Toshiba software which depends on the system.

In case of Win 7 or Vista, the Toshiba value added package has to be installed. In case of the Win XP, you need to install the Common Modules package.

To be honest I don?t understand what you want to do?
The Tecra A10 is a great unit. I?ve got the successor called Tecra A11. I use Win 7 and its really great OS. Much better than the early Win XP

Hallo,

I have an old Tecra 8100 an I want to upgrade the BIOS. Who know which Harddisk is supported (20 GB, 40 GB) and where can I find the specifications?

Thanks for your information.

Georg

A:Tecra 8100, upgrade BIOS, whitch Harddisk is supported (40 GB?)

Hi

As I?m not mistaken the Tecra 8100 supports an IDE HDD controller.
In such cases it should be possible to use the 2.5? IDE HDDs.

I cannot say much about the supported sizes but fact is that the supported HDD size depends on the HDD controller. The older IDE controllers until ATA-5 (also called Ultra ATA/66 or Ultra DMA/66) supported the LBA 28bit which allows you to use max 120GB HDD.

Since ATA-6 (also called Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100) you can use IDE HDDs bigger than 128GB.

So if you want you can check your IDE HDD controller using an hardware diagnostic tool (i.e Everest home edition). Then you could find out what IDE controller it is and what HDDs are supported.

Cheers

Hello all,

I'm trying to install the 1.70-WIN BIOS update of 12/09/12, delivered in a zip folder called "bios-20120907140253", without success.

Everytime I run the .exe file I get "This computer is not supported" returned in Toshiba BIOS Package Ver.4.2.1 window.

My laptop part number is PT22LE-00E004EN.
Toshiba's Tempro software advised me to install this BIOS upgrade.

Is anyone else having this problem, and is there a solution?

In my personal opinion you don?t need to update the BIOS even if the new BIOS was updated.
I?ve got a laptop? its running perfectly with old BIOS and I did not update to newer version even if new updated were released?

Nevertheless I found really interesting thread with a solution:

Here is another thread with the same error message:

The solution -> recover the notebook back to factory settings using HDD recovery and try again.

PS: before doing this try to reinstall the VAP

You are right. On Toshiba support page there is 1.60 update available for old Tecra 9100. As I can see just one option is available ? WIN option. That means you must do it under running Windows. So the option with bootdisk cannot be done at all.

Start your Windows, download update (910078v160.exe) and extract it to the desktop. Close all running applications and execute exe file. That?s it!

Do you have Admin rights?
Sounds like the issue could be related to missing privileges which are needed to run a update.

You could enable the admin account following these steps:
Choose command prompt (the black box cmd)
In the box type net user administrator /active:yes
Then log out. Usually an additional user account should be visible ?Administrator?.

Now log in using this account and try to execute the BIOS update.

Note: in many cases the VAP (value added package) is needed to run the update BIOS.
Be sure also, that package has been unzipped correctly before running the exe file.

Laptop is working fine but I could see that after recommended update by Service Station to BIOS ver. 4.30 sometimes the screen is not turning on while the PC is turning on. The same situation is when Windows is turning off screen for battery saving, when I connect an external screen (VGA or/and HDMI) while splitting the signal, sometimes when screen is going to be active from battery saving mode it is with lowest resolution possible and I need to change resolution to the max possible, sometime the Windows is showing me that driver has been crashed ( igfxext.exe) and recover correctly.
I didn't have this issue before BIOS update. I also know that there is not a problem with windows driver itself as the problem sometime appears when I turning on laptop (POST).
The only solution to have a screen working is to close and reopen screen lid (multiple times) or turn off and turn back on the laptop.
And if you take a look on change log of bios then you will see:

1. I have a 500 MHz processor on my 8100. I'd like to upgrade it to max capacity. My guess it's 800MHz since that's the highest the series went to.
But if it is 800 MHz, will any PIII Mobile on this frequency do? Or should I check for special parameters of the processor?

2. I don't have a floppy drive, neither means to get one. And I'm not going to ebay one just for a BIOS update. Any ideas? Will a bootable CD with the files do the trick?

3. What's the slot of the DVD-ROM and what replacement models can I use? The 8200 went as far as an 8x DVD-RW. Could I go further?

Thanks. Hopefully my post is OK like this instead of three different posts.

A:Tecra 8100 - max processor, DVD-ROM and BIOS update questions

1. Have a look at the other Tecra 8100 models to determine what CPU's are compatible.

2. I dont think a bootable CD would work, you need to follow a special procedure to update the BIOS, and it requires a floppy drive. If there is a Windows version, you should use that instead.

3. Upgrading the DVD drive can be difficult since you need to use the correct Master/Slave settings and it needs to have the same faceplate design of the original one.

Personally, I would sell the laptop and buy a faster second hand one. It may work out to be cheaper.

I am having difficulty updating BIOS for a Toshiba Tecra A9 -11i laptop, (using latest update from the official toshiba european site); after running the bios launcher (version 3.2.8)
I get the following message ' this computer is not supported"? The current installed bios version is 1.5 , date 7/5/2007

also if i may add a couple of further issues:
the function buttons tdon't appear to be working;,,
the led light for the 'FN' key lights up when key is pressed so assume FN key works, but there's no response when pressing the ''FN' key and one of the f number keys - i installed the command module software as have been advised but this hasn't solved it.

I also having difficulty getting AHCi' mode to work in Windows XP Pro SP3; I have intel chipset 965m +ICH8M, the Intel ICH8M serial ata storage controller-2828 shows in device manager- the matrix storage manager won't run so i copied the file iastor.sys from the matrix manager folder into C:/Windows/Driver/system32 and edited the registry as read elsewhere on the forum but have had no joy.

any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

This error message appears if you want to update a BIOS which is not compatible with your notebook model.
Toshiba European driver page provides the 2.10Win BIOS for this notebook model.
So you used definitely wrong BIOS.

> there's no response when pressing the ''FN' key and one of the f number keys
Common modules controls the FN buttons.
So the issue should be solved installing Common Modules v 6.06.00, Utilities 4.30.15
Note; You have to press FN + 1, 2, 3 etc? DON?T press FN + F1 etc?.

Firstly be sure that AHCI is enabled in BIOS!!!
Furthermore the Intel Storage Manager controls the AHCI so you should slipstream the AHCI driver to the Win XP CD as described here:

Dear all, This morning, I received a push update from Lenovo Companion (or whatever it's called) about Bios update and I agreed to it. After what seems to be a normal update with progress bar and standard reboot, the computer is now stuck at startup with NO bootable devices recognized. I ran Lenovo diagnostics and it reported that the Storage had failed to do read test and I have an unknown device (Manufacturer/Model both Unknown). I read from an Asus forum and some past posts here that a buggy BIOS might have caused the issue, but I couldn't know for sure. Anyone else having this issue? My Lapotp model is: T460s, running windows 10 Pro 64 with 12G RAM an I5 7200My SSD is Samsung 960 Evo 500GB. What I have done so far: 1.Called Lenovo Support (absolutely waste of time)2. Tried complete power off and pressed the power button for 30 seconds and reboot (didn't do a thing)3. Fiddled with BIOS configuration based on suggestions I pull from the web (ditto)4. Swapped the factory SATA SSD back on and is able to get back in and hence typing this thread right now. Help!!!

Hi all,

I was hoping to download all necessary Windows XP drivers for the Tecra P10 (PTSB3A) from Toshiba's Australia/New Zealand website (where this model is marketed). As far as I know Windows XP is supported.

So I navigate through the website to the downloads section, select this model, and it comes up with a list of 51 drivers/software - BUT only 2 are for Windows XP. Where did the rest go? Missing is drivers for Wireless, LAN, sound, etc. I am at a loss as to where they can be found... I really need them!

I appreciate your help,

Michal

A:Tecra P10 (PTSB3A) - Windows XP supported so where are all the drivers?

Seems it?s a Toshiba Australian notebook series.
I presume it a new series and not long on the market.

Maybe the Win XP drivers will be published in the next time? let?s hope.
If you don?t want to wait then you could try to collect the XP drivers at your own hand.

I mean you could try some 3rd party drivers from the chip manufacturer.

Good luck

Hey folks,I got my T61 last week and been very happy so far. I installed Windows yesterday and did all the updates and driver installation with the automated Matrix program (not sure what it's called). One of the updates was a BIOS update.I tried to access my BIOS afterwards and it asked me for a password (it has never done that before the update). I never set one, so I just tried to hit enter and to double check also my usual computer password (I set that for Windows but not for BIOS, I just wanted to double check). Now I can't access my computer nor my BIOS anymore.Any idea what I can do? I am sure I never entered a password and so I am pretty frustrated. Thank you. Robert

A:Locked out of computer and BIOS after BIOS update

You need to provide more information before one could suggest anything concrete. However, here are some generic suggestions. Is the machine totally dead?Take it to service. It starts up and then acts up asking for password. If you have set up password recovery in ThinkVantage Security Solution, you could recover the password. You may have to use ThinkVantage Blue button at the start up.Have you made Windows Password Recovery disk? This would help you recover windows passwordAs last resort try to set to factory setting and re-install to original setup. But before that go to service, particularly if the machine is under warranty.

Hi all, just joined this forum today in the hope of solving my problem, any help would be appreciated.
I recently bought a group of laptops for my business and amongst them is a Tecra A9, on booting there is just the word
"password" in the top left of the screen. As of yet there is no OS. I presume it requires a bios password, so my question is
does anyone know the best course of action to get this fixed?

Hello there,

so I've recently bought this Toshiba Tecra S11 on eBay and I've sucessfully installed Windows 10 on it but one day I noticed that my built in Webcam doesn't show up at all. So I asked google about it and it said the webcam could be disabled inside the BIOS. So I shut the Laptop down and tried to boot into BIOS but nothing happend, it just booted into Windows... I've tried F1, F2, F11, F12 and every possible combination and nothing worked. After more research on google I've read that if there is only set a supervisor password you need to boot while holding doen the INS Key - which I did but as you can guess it doesn't work. So to sum up I've never seen even a field to type in a BIOS protecting password!

So my question is how can I boot into my BIOS and is it possible to reset these Passwords?

Thanks

Dear members

I have the Tecra A10-IC5 (-ptsb0e-03d01ken), and have *windows 8* installed on it. It was my wish to update the bios to the latest version.

Accordingly I navigated to the Toshiba website, and, using the auto-detect tool that Toshiba provide, was directed to the drivers list for my model.

The list of drivers included bios update, and it was designated as "operating system independent".
Therefore I downloaded and unpacked the file, and launched the program.
(bios 2009110452403)

However as soon as I did this the program abruptly terminated with the message "this computer is not supported"

With that in mind I would like to request advice - could anyone please tell me what I must do to update bios

thanks you
Ian

A:Updating BIOS on Tecra A10-IC5

As I can see BIOS version 3.00WIN is available for your Tecra.
Do you want to install this version? You can install it on any OS except Win8.

If I?m remembering well Toshiba offers BIOS updates for Win8 and all available versions begin with version 6.0 and higher.

Is there some problem with your Tecra and some reason for BIOS update?

I am the owner of Tecra 540.
Full details:
Tecra 540CDT/4.0 SYSTEM UNIT; Model No. Z7013615.

I have just downloaded the newest BIOS for that laptop (bios-20071126170622.zip)

Two files inside:
CHGBIOSA.EXE
BIOFCE7T.COM

Now I am looking for a way to flash BIOS. This machine does not have floppy drive but CD-ROM.
I was looking at Toshiba site where "how-to" for upgrading BIOS is described for any of Toshiba laptops but not my :(
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07

Can anyone please let me know what steps do I need to upgrade the newest BIOS ?

A:Tecra 540 - BIOS upgrade ?

Hi

On the Toshiba driver page in the Tecra 540 section you can find two BIOS packages.
The one package BIOS 8.00-TRAD contains an BIOS Tecra 540 exe file and some pdf documents which describes how to update the BIOS.

Furthermore the Toshiba FAQ document +?How do I update the BIOS on my Toshiba Notebook and where can I get the latest BIOS for my machine??+ provides a step by step instruction.

Please check the last point *?BIOS Upgrade Procedure 7?*

It says:
For all models except those listed in procedures (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6)
So if your model was not listed in the early procedures then you will have to use the last ?Procedure 7?

I bought a M5 from a local computer recycling company for my Granddaughter as her first laptop it was not a lot of money because it needed a hard drive and was password locked.

I was told by Toshiba to take it to a local PC World to get the Response Code but repairs are ?200 whatever the fault!!
As it is not faulty and only needs a code can anyone suggest a reasonable agent/person who may be able to help.

Thanks, John.

A:Tecra M5 is locked by BIOS

Hi

I cannot believe that deleting a BIOS password would cost ?200.
Also the HDD upgrade should not be really expensive.
However, I recommend asking an Toshiba authorized service provider to delete the BIOS password.
Only the authorized service partner can delete this.

Here you will find a database containing all ASPs worldwide.

Hi

I assume You are upgrading in Windows?
If so certain modules need to be in place before this upgrade.

If You're in WinXP, make sure You have Common Modules installed.
If You're in WinVista or Win7 make sure You have TVAP / Value added package installed.

Hope this helps.
