Preferred Solution: Anyone know how many lanes the thunderbolt connection on the T570 has?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you want to use an eGPU you need 4 lanes of PCIexpress otherwise the loss is too great for it to be worth it.  But you only lose about 10% of the  original power if you have 4 lanes of PCIexpress through Tuhunderbolt 3.  So, what do the 13" and 15" models offer for the number of PCIexpress lanes?

Folks - Just wanted to share the early results of my experiment with adding a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosure to my T570 laptop. I just got this up and running, but everything operates mostly as expected so far. The only negative items so far are that my Ultradock does not have a Thunderbolt 3 port, so I must connect the TB3 cable directly to the laptop. Also, when cold booting with the laptop installed on the dock, the bitlocker password screen will not display on monitors attached to eGPU. The logon screen only displays on laptop screen (even when laptop is closed). My configuration is as follows: System specs Lenovo T570 Thinkpad LaptopIntel® Core? i5-7300U CPU @ 2.60GHz8.0 GB RAMIntel HD Graphics 620Machine Type Model: 20H9000PUSWindows 10 (64-bit) eGPU hardware Akitio Node EnclosureNvidia GTX 970 with 3 ea 1920 x 1080 monitors attached Installation stepsInstalled updatedThunderbolt drivers (16.3)Plugged in Akitio Node with GTX 970 installedInstalled Nvidia driversUpdated Akitio Node firmware Benchmarks Cinebench R15OpenGL with internal Intel HD Graphics 620 = 31.80 fpsCPU with internal graphics = 290 cbOpenGL with Akitio Node and GTX 970 eGPU = 98.4 fpsCPU with external graphics = 326 cb Now running 3 x 1920 by 1080 monitors on the GTX 970 plus the laptop display. Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

Unfortunately I still haven't resolved the issue with my laptop. It's rather frustrating because we have an identical laptop and hardware setup with one of my colleagues and his works fine. No combination of BIOS update software uninstall and reinstall has resolved this issue. It's a shame because I have been accustomed to using the docking station for my older Compaq based laptop / Workstation and I really do love the feature.

I have three ZBook 17 G3 that I cannot get a Thunderbolt dock installed correctly on. The first does not seem to want to install the thunderbolt driver, so that one's fun. The other two are having a different issue entirely. I have read multiple threads here about similar issues, and none have offered a solution for my situation.I have tried the latest BIOS, I have tried an older BIOS, I have downloaded the drivers and firmware(which won't install because it doesn't detect the dock) Whenever I plug the dock in, Windows installs the drevices, but gets stuck and winds up with a "Base System Device" that it cannot find a driver for. I have tried three different docks, and three different cables. All have the exact same result. Is there an obscure driver that I need to download to install that is not obvious in all of my searching? Any questions or clarifications, I'm happy to respond. -Keith

I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) started experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It has been connected to this dock for over a month without this issue. I'm not sure why the sudden issue as I don't recall any updates or new software prior to this happening. The dock is connected to 2x monitors via HDMI cables, and an ethernet cable. I connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop. If the dock is connected to the laptop on startup, it reaches the login screen before BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. It never gets to the point where the monitors display anything. It can boot with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as this seems to disable it from working. I have updated all drivers and the BIOS (including downloading the Softpaq Download Manager) but there has been no change. I've also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change. What should I do next to solve the issue?

A:BSOD upon connection to HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock

I would personally try isolating the culprit, then go from there: 1) remove 1 monitor from the dock, then test2) remove ethernet from the dock, then test3) remove the last monitor and hook it directly to the laptop, so the dock is attached with nothing to it, then test4) I have my dock set to "Always Connect" in the thunderbolt software, not sure if that helps any.

Probably.  I read somewhere that since Dell is pushing their Alienware external GPU stuff that uses a proprietary connection, they never enabled external GPU support via Thunderbolt.

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

On my ASUS P9X79 WS, the top PCI-e slot (blue) has x16 assigned to it. It is paired with a black slot below it. If run a GPU card in the top blue slot and nothing in the black slot, the card will run on x16. If I put GPU cards in both the top blue slot and the black one below it, both will run at only x8. What I'm wondering is what would happen if I had a GPU in the blue slot and a x8 card in the black slot? Would the GPU still drop to x8?

I am trying to purchase two samsung 960 pro 2TB model, and bit curious whether it will work or not.I am using P70 with xeon 1575Mv5, and in the Intel homepage, there seems to be maximum 16 lanes are supported by CPU.It seems to me that those 16 lanes are totally occupied by the graphic card. As P70 was configurable with two PCIe-nvme SSDs, I guess it will use two x4 PCIe ports.apparantly this configuration is using more PCIe lane than it supports.. Therefore I think I have to figure out following questions before making the decision for purchasing new SSDs..Is P70 have some kind of way to use more PCIe lanes? How much PCIe lanes P70 is capable to use?If, somehow, my configuration is using more lanes than supported, what happens?(Will it operate, but with crippled performance,or blow off?Or.. I am totally misunderstanding the concept of capability of PCIe lanes, and the system will operate without any problem?) Thank you in advance.

I've been studying for my A+ certification lately, and I've run into a little bump where I'm having some confusion.

According to what I read, the highest PCIe multiplier currently is x16, as there currently can be no more than 20 PCIe lanes. If this is true, though, how is it possible to have motherboard chipsets with a 16x and 6 1x's (which by my math should make 22 lanes)? I'm really confused, any help here would be awesome.

Hi I wanted to know if there was a 775 ddr2 motherboard with 3 pci-e 16 lanes, as I was thinking of using 2 lanes([email protected]) for my 5870's in crossfire and the 3rd lane([email protected]) for my old spare nvidia gtx 280 for purely physx work, I would like to know if this kind of board exists and if it does, would this even work well or not at all, or if there's no point me even trying to attempt it due to pci-e bus limitations or ati/nvidia software driver incompatibilities.

I want a 775 because i want to use my existing e8400 chip and 4gb of ddr2 ram, all help will be appreciated.

There are a few choices for ddr3 ram or nvidia (no cf tho) but for intel/ddr2 is this is all i can find.
Newegg.com - Foxconn ELA LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Just not that there is no way all those slots run at 16x. Probably an 8+8+4 config at most if all are in use. Wont make much difference in gaming though..

Edit- Also don't forget that you're going to have to hack the drivers to get physx to work with ati

Hi all (Dell - mods - would especially appreciate your response):
I am considering buying a Samsung 950 SSD for my XPS 13 9350.  The machine currently has 128GB SATA SSD.
Does anyone know - and I called and chatted with Dell Tech Support and it seems like they are not too familiar with these concepts - whether these machines support 2 or 4 lanes PCIe for the SSD?
One Dell rep on the phone told me 2 lanes.  A Dell chat support told me 4 lanes.  Neither seemed too confident in their answer and one referred me to a Wikipedia page as a source.
I know the 9350 supports PCIe connections.   Just trying to figure out if it is 4 or 2 since that will impact the speed - and decision on what SSD to buy.
From what I see the machine also supports NVMe - but if anyone knows this for sure please let me know.
Thanks!

Here I go again, problem after problem it's been this week.

So I started with a motherboard that got a little upset by a power surge (would only read 1 stick of ram even though the slots and sticks were fine). Then I got my new motherboard yesterday and the graphics cards were showing moving green pixels all over my screens. Finally I went out and bought some extremely cheap graphics cards to replace them - I only went cheap as I only use this machine for audio production (three monitors).

The issue it's now thrown up, is only one PCI-E slot will read the new cards - Palit GeForce 210 1GB DDR3 http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=1411

It's PCI-E 2.0 complient, so I understood that it would be perfectly fine in the 3.0 lanes.. would it though? No. The only lane that will read these cards is the black one right at the bottom of my motherboard.

Red = Working / Orange = Didn't work

To confirm that the new motherboards PCI-E lanes aren't dead, I tried one of my old 'half dead' graphic cards in them both and got results.
Is it just a case that these cards are utterly poor? All I do is audio production, slightest bit of photo editing (rarely) and web browsing.. would I still be better with a higher spec card?

Thank you

this is for someone from Dell to answer.
I just bought an 8th-gen Dell XPS 13".  it has the Core i7-8550U and i ordered one with 16GB LPDDR3 1866MHz memory, 256gb PCIe SSD .
my question: for M.2 slot, how many PCIe lanes are available?  are they PCIe 3.0?
i am wondering in case i decide to upgrade the SSD at a later time and I don't want to buy an SSD that is faster than the bandwidth available to the M.2 slot.
bonus question: what Intel chipset does the motherboard use?
thanks.

A:Dell XPS 13" 8th-gen: what kind and how many PCIe lanes on M.2 ?

If you already have this system, use a utility like HWInfo64 to expose the information you're looking for.  The 9350 and 9360 both had 4-lane M.2 slots, and I'm fairly certain they were PCIe 3.0 since that's been around for a while now, so I imagine the new version will be the same -- in fact when I last checked Dell's site, even the version with an 8th gen Core CPU was being called a 9360.  That said, that doesn't mean your SSDs will always perform at their max.  I installed a Samsung 960 Evo into a friend's 9360 and I think it got something like 1.4 GB/s read, regardless of whether I used the native Microsoft or Samsung NVMe driver (BIOS set to AHCI mode to bypass Intel RST).  Reviews of the 960 Evo have indicated that they can reach around 3.1 GB/s reads in certain systems, although I found several other reviews with numbers closer to mine, so I don't consider my result anomalous.  It's possible that having a U Series CPU (low-power) is creating a bottleneck at such high SSD speeds given that the reviews I saw with 3 GB/s+ read speeds were typically performed on desktops with a top-end K series CPU.

Hi, the PSREF document for the T480 mentions that the M.2. 2280 SSD slot has 4 PCIe lanes (see http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificatio...). However the german site campuspoint.de who sells campus models of the T480 states that the M.2 2280 SSD slot in this model (unlike the T480s) is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, just as on the previous T470. I wanted to be sure and asked them, and here is their reply: We were stumbling over the same point in the PSREF. The difference to the former Models like T470 and T570 made us suspicious, since the new models use a very similar Adapter. So, we made a simple test. We took a T580 with a Samsung PM981 SSD, which should be able of up to 3200 Mb/s of read performance and made a simple benchmark. Our test showed a read performance of roughly 1800 Mb/s at max. This is about the same score as we had with the T470 and T570 Models and just slightly under what is theoretically possible with two PCIe Lanes. It looks like Lenovo just didn?t mention the restriction by the Adapter. This has nothing to do with Campus Models or not. The Campus Models use the same parts as used in other Thinkpad models. As you mentioned the T480s doesn?t have this issue.  Can Lenovo confirm there is a mistake in the PSREF of the T480 and T580 with respect to the number of lanes for the M.2 2280 SSD slot?

Yes, you can add M.2 SSD in the form factor of 2242 like this 00UP432. And also have a look on this thread

I have a T570 20Hx.After updating windows 10, it now tells me that my TPM needs a firmware update.Win 10 tells me that my TPM is v 1.16 (Fri Jan 15, 2016)However, my BIOS has been updated to the latest version (1.32). When I look at Lenovo support, it appears that it tells me that my T570 is affected by this issue, but the fix appears to direct me to the update for the BIOS.  I already have the most current BIOS.Is there another fix available that I am not finding? Is there some reason that the fix is not being automatically made available to me?Or, is there not yet a fix available for this TPM version?

Yesterday while playing a not strenuous game the laptop was quite hot, on my mac i had installed a fan control software (smcFanControl) where the OS would only be overridden when i chose to manually turn up or down the fan, i tried that with this laptop and the fan control software most highly recommended seemed to fiddly so i uninstalled it.  Now the laptop is running hot with the fan on for tasks like Word where it never ran hot before. Any ideas on how to fix this? Laptop is less than two months old

Why my T570 lost the "AMT"  in "BIOS config" tab, even I update the BIOS and AMT firmware version Is the Lenovo provider disable the option before sell it.
