Unable to use windows fire wall or windows update all windows security disabled..

Q: Unable to use windows fire wall or windows update all windows security disabled..

Hey all,

Firstly I hope i have posted this in the right forum.

As the name states I can not use any of my windows security I know this is because of a fake anti virus i had at one point, I also can't install any other virus protection or firewalls onto my computer.

I'm assuming this has to do with what the virus has done with my computers registry, correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to restore my registry back to its default I have tried the reg restore /? command in cmd but it comes up with (see attached picture) and am not sure what this means or for the next step for me to take to continue the command.

Is there any down side to restoring my registry to its default as well?

Preferred Solution: Unable to use windows fire wall or windows update all windows security disabled..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not too sure whether this is related to Windows 7 or Windows 10.
I've found Windows 7 has to have its Windows Fire Wall down in order to have its folders shared with Windows 10.
However the other way is not true.
Windows 10 can have Windows Fire Wall up while sharing its folders with Windows 7.
In other words while fire wall is up on both Windows 7 system and Windows 10 system, Windows 7 system can access shared folders on Windows 10 without any problem while in the meantime Windows 10 system cannot access Windows 7 system at all.

Hello -
I' am trying to get my Blackjack to connect to my computer with Active Sync, my computer recognizes the device but still it will not connect. I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem but have had no luck, I went to Microsofts troubleshoot page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ubleshoot.mspx) and was told to make some changes to my Windows Firewall.

I click Start > Control Panel > and double click Windows Fire wall, but when I double click this nothing happens and I get this error "Due to an aunidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall Settings".

Can someone please help me, I need to connect my phone to my computer so I can use it to it's full capabilities.

Thank You!!

So I've had windows 7 recovery virus earlier in the day and I removed it using the guide that was here in these forums/site. I unhid all the files/icons and removed the virus completely however I have a issue...

Something wasnt right I felt, so I went and checked different parts of my computer in control panel and I noticed that the Fire Wall was off.

So it said to click here to use recommended settings which I did however a error message popped up:

"Windows Firewall cant change some of your settings.

Error Code 0x80070424"

So I checked online to see if there was a solution however I could not find one but a result of it according to some sites was that it could of been a result of the cleaning of the virus via a third party software (malware bytes or etc).

I also checked the services to see if I can activate Windows Fire Wall but it wasnt even there...

So I am wondering now what I should do? Please help me.

P.S. Windows Security Service Center isnt working either...

I would install Bitdefender antivirus plus and use the windows firewall of windows 7
It seems to be a 2 way firewall.
I also enable the SPI firewall of my linksys router E2500
The devices I use are all wifi devices: 2 laptops, an ipad and a smartphone.

Is this windows firewall secure enough?

A:spi firewall + windows fire wall secure enough?

Windows Firewall is a 2 way firewall but the default setting allows all outbound connections so it's basically a 1 way firewall in the default state.
It's a good firewall. I only recommend advanced users to take control also over the outbound connections as it can be difficult to configure properly.

Your router will probably block all connection attempts from the Internet which means the Windows Firewall won't have to do much. Unless you've directly or indirectly opened up ports in the router with Remote Management, Port Forwards, UPnP etc.
You can try with the different tests in the service ShieldsUp for example: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
Then disable Windows Firewall and run the tests again and you'll know how the router is protecting you.

If the router blocks all incoming Internet connections it means the Windows Firewall is left taking care of connections from other devices inside your local network (LAN).

Hello. Windows Security Center is telling me that ZoneAlarm firewall is currently turned off. Windows Firewall is off, and ZA is currently running. Is there any way to fix this problem without telling Windows not to monitor it?

This Just Started today, did system restore; no joy there.
WIN XP Pro SP2
ZA Pro v5.5.094.000
AVG AV v7.xxx

More info;
It Seems to be a Windows Issue. I Downloaded the latest update 6.1.737 did a clean install. Ran the setup wizard restarted my PC Windows does not recognize ZA pro. It (Win XP) asks if I would like to turn on Windows FW, I said yes, which causes a message "Windows can not turn on its firewall". But Windows shows their FW is On and ZA pro is functioning correctly.

I have Screen Shots but am unable to upload them.

A:Windows Fire Wall Stoped Reconizing Za Pro

Hi,

First of all Welcome to Bleepingcomputer.com, Hope all your queries will get answered here.

If you have ZA and its in working condition then all you need is to say windwos that I will manuly monitor my Firewall Information.

Herez how you can do that:

Goto Start-> Settings-> Control Panel -> Security Center

On the security Center if you have ur windows firewall turned off then it will show the status as OFF, click on Recommendations button below and put a check mark on "I Have a firewall Solution ... " and click OK.

This will work for you.

My problem is outlined in these two threads and stated better then I can; they also show the same errors im getting with some pictures at these two links .

1 Enable Windows 10 firewall to install fonts - 404 Tech Support

2. Unable to install fonts on Windows 10 - Super User
Yet they don't offer a solution. Windows Fire Wall will not Start. Fonts Will Not install. These issues are supposedly related.
I suspect a hacker , after I used some questionable software.; that is what I believe caused this. But I am unsure.

All I know is I have to get this issue resolved so I can install my fonts and get back to work. I'm losing money because clients want me to design for them, and I can't without getting these fonts installed.

Long Story Short......

Was having difficulty getting onto internet. Error code referenced a problem with NT Services.

Ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Found a bunch of stuff, including Worm.Koobface and Trojan.Agent along with some Adware and numberous Security.Hijack registry problems.

Malware says it fixed them all and, indeed, I was able to connect to the internet.

Later, when manually trying to run Windows Update, the program failed. Hijack This Log shows a couple of NT Services (O23) problems with wuauserv and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). (HJT says they are fixed, but they appear on all subsquent scans.) At this same time, I ran another Malware scan and found 93 problems with security.hijack registry entries and disabled.securitycenter, including AntiVirus, Firewall and Update Disable Notification.

On repeated Malware scans, the 93 problems as mentioned above almost always re-appear.

I don't know if not having a critical windows update may be the cause for "re-infection" or if this is all rooted to the original problems with the malware found.

In any event, I need some help and I would be grateful for any assistance you can lend.

Thank you.

I found some questionable files this week that had been downloaded by my son. I have since spent a great deal of time trying to scan and clean the computer. Each malware/spyware/anti-virus scanner has had varying levels of success.

It seems that the bulk of my issues have been resolved but I am still unable to install the following update from Microsoft: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2719177)

Each time I try to update it, it aborts and gives me an error code (80073712), that is not showing up in any google searches or searches of microsoft's site.

Additionally, every time I shutdown or restart the computer it shows that new updates are being installed.

I am using Windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Fire Wall Question? Do I Really Need 3 Fire Walls Running At The Same Time

I am not familiar with your specific modem, but as it is external to your computer it will not adversely affect the system. It is likely a firmware or hardware firewall. This is a good thing, and provides an additional layer of protection. Usually a third party firewall turns off the native Windows firewall by default. Zone Alarm, for example. I am suprised that McAffee does not. It is not necessary to have both on, and since McAfee is 2-way (Program alerts) I suggest that you use it. Windows can be told to stop "bothering" you about the firewall situation. Security Center is found in the Control Panel. Once open, notice the words "Change the way Security Center alerts me" on the left. After clicking there, a dialog will open in which you can arrange the alerts to your preferences.

Hi there!

I hope that this message finds you well.

First of all, I am not sure whether my laptop is infected with a virus, its hard drive is failing, or there is something else that is wrong with it, but here's what I've observed so far.

The problem started when I tried to open a word document and got the following error message: "Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user. The application will now shut down". I restarted the laptop, hoping that this would solve the problem; however, when it restarted, (1) my task bar changed to the "classic grey look", (2) my attempt to restore the system to a previous point in time using system restore resulted in the following error message: "System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information. (0x80042302)", (3) Windows Security system stopped working, (4) my internet stopped working, and (5) my sound was disabled.

I have avast! installed, which didn't detect any problems, even after I ran a boot-up scan. I also tried several other anti virus/malware programs that have not been able to solve the problem. Specifically a bootable Kaspensky disc did not detect any suspicious program, superantispyware found and removed several cookies, and malwarebytes (which was outdated because I couldn't ... Okay. Now I know this is going to sound stupid but the other day I was trying to download a keygen for a friend. I don't do this for myself. So I was going to test it, then Avast! says threat detected and it said trojan virus. Ignoring this because some keygens are not a threat even if it says it is, so I opened it then it started to extract files. Closed out immediately. Didn't have problems for the rest of the night. Then I turned on my computer in the morning. The Windows Aero theme was disabled and I have a windows 2000/95 ish theme instead. Also the flag popped up in the notifications saying the windows security center has been disabled. When I try to enable it, it says error cannot start. I ran services to see what was disabled. Color, Defender, all of that was disabled. When I try to enable, it says failed to start. So I ran a full system scan with Avast. Nothing. Use Spybot Search and Destroy, 4 threats. Removed them, restarted. No difference. Then I downloaded NOD32 AntiVirus. scanned. 4 threats. Cleaned. Restarted, and still no difference. I've tried everything I could think of. I even tried system restore. It gave me the error " System restore is functioning correctly " My friend that I was getting the keygen for also has my Windows disc ( I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit). So I am currently downloading the ISO for the Windows 7 disc and I am going to try to repair and or use system restore with that. If that doesn't work then I am completely lost. T... Read more

Hello, and thank you ahead of time for the help.

My brother's laptop is pretty badly infected; his homepage redirects to hxxp://www.searchqu.com/406 and constantly redirects from google searches.
I've ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and ComboFix already to no avail.
There is a program called White Smoke installed that will not allow me to uninstall.
And in Services, Windows Security Service & Windows Defender are automatically disabled.
I try to enable them but within five seconds it reverts back to disabled.

Please help with this issue and once again, thank you for your time.

UPDATE: I've run DeFogger and DDS as instructed by the preparation guide, logs are attached.

Hello, I have recently been having issues with my computer following a nasty WoW account hack. After my account was hacked I have been unable to use Windows Update and get a connection error or no result. I have tried to follow the Microsoft help and none of their troubleshooting has helped. I have ran AVG scans multiple times as well as MBAM and sometimes find infections but have them removed. Currently neither show any infections. Rkill also finds nor terminates anything but C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe. Today I am unable to connect to the internet using IE7 or connect to many of my online games, but can connect via Firefox. I have Hijackthis logs if requested. After reading this I realize I gave very little information... Sorry Please feel free to ask additional questions. Another machine with issues. Booted to safe mode and install malwarebytes. Removed 3 pup programs (including coupon clipper and rocket mp3 - tried to use windows uninstall to remove some of them after malwarebytes cleaned up) (over 100 files were cleaned up). Booted in normal mode. Windows update did not update for about a week. Trend Micro firewall/av not updating. Noticed windows defender message in logs (not starting). Updated mailwarebytes and reran - came up clean. Had to reinstall Trend Micro so updates would work. Ran trend micro scan - Nothing found. Ran malwarebytes rootkit checker - nothing. tried to run windows update. Not all updates worked (especially windows defender update). Tried to get windows defender to work - Failed. Ran windows update - Noticed 1 update for office 2010 not working - hid the update. Ran it again - found 5 updates. 1 installed but the others failed. Rebooted machine. Windows update stated that windows was updated. ---WRONG BEHAVIOR Those 4 updates should still be there-- Suspect some kind of virus but none seem to be obvious--. Good morning.

Events:

I just started having some problems on my PC. I'm using Windows 10, x64, Professional edition. Non-secure boot.

I got a notification from Windows to the effect of "Warning you are not running any security software".

I immediately tried to open Windows Defender but what I got instead was all sliders disabled. On opening my Updates tab I saw the message "Some settings are managed by your organization".

On trying to open Windows Security Center I didn't get anything. Checking services showed me it had been set to disabled.

Steps taken so far:

I tried setting it back to Automatic delayed start and restarting the service but immediately it was disabled again.

At this point I was running a malwarebytes scan. Malwarebytes found a "Chromebrowser.exe" PUP which I removed.

On a rescan it has so far yet to detect anything.

Checking Group Policy shows all entries are set to default "Not Configured" except one for automatic removal which I disabled myself when I first installed Windows 10.

Changing group policy settings for Allow Telemetry under Data collection and Telemetry (under Computer Configuration, Admin templates, Windows components) to full, then disabling again resulted in the "Some settings are managed by organizatio" notice going away, the previously disabled "Get Started" button for Insider Program became enabled again.

A friend, who exhausted his resources at hand for trying to clear my infection, recommended I post here.

The issue:

* Was getting google search result redirects (seemes fixed after changing my DNS server)

* Cannot start Windows Defender (message: The Windows Security Center Service can't be started.)

* Cannot start Windoes Security Center Service

* Cannot start Microsoft Security Essentials (appears for a brief moment before evaporating)

* Malwarebytes comes up clean, Rkill comes up clean, Spybot detects two registry changes, says it "fixed" them, but the error remains in subsequent scans.

I am currently recovering from an infection (Google re-direct) and am now unable to update Windows.
I am not sure if this issue is related, but I obviously need to fix it either way...

I noticed that my Windows Security Center icon in the task tray had the !
It told me that my automatic updates were turned off, and I was unable to turn them on from there.
Every time I went into system settings (System, System Properties, Automatic Updates) to verify, I had automatic updates selected for daily downloads.

So I manually selected Windows Update from IE Tools -
when I got to the Microsoft site, it started checking to see if I had the latest updates.

Hi,

I am a tech idiot and I need help. I appreciate anything anyone can do.

For several months I have been getting messages that our windows may not be genuine. It came installed on our Dell and we bought directly from Dell so I basically ignored it. Recently we got a message that it is not genuine in the bottom right corner of the screen and windows things on the screen started to look clumsy and not run right.

I tried many times to follow the validation processes to fix this but it would never complete. I had my stepson try to fix it and he is a computer pro. He tried remotely and came back saying that the windows version itself was apparently too corrupt and I needed to reinstall it from the original disk - which seems to have got lost in a move. Ugghhh. Oh yeah, several times in my efforts I was told to run chkdsk - did so and it identified different issues, seemed to fix them but made no difference in my ability to fix the validation issue.

So, I bit the bullet and went out to BestBuy and got a Windows 7 Builders Pack. I tried to update windows several times using it - no go. It got to the same point every time and quit. It basically said there was a file that was not correct and install could not be completed. So, I decided to back up and do a full install. Same result. I am at my wit's end. I ran the diagnostic below. Before I try more dramatic moves like hard drive replacement - or new computer, I thought I would give it a last go here.

Any help appreciated.... Read more

A:Windows 7 - Genuine Issues Leading to Unable to Update/Install Windows

So, you`ve reinstalled windows 7, you`ve downloaded the network drivers from dell.com and installed them, and you`ve tried to activate windows with the key on your COA or the key from the system builder pack, and it will not activate ?

And you`re saying you went to BestBuy and they had a Windows 7 builder pack ????????

Amazing How much was that, if you don`t mind me asking ?

If you used that license it should say OEM System Builder, but yours says OEM SLP which means System Locked Pre-Installation. Are you sure you`re trying the right key from BestBuy ?

The fake anti-virus appears to be gone, however I can only update Windows Security Essentials manually (Error Code 0x80072ee7), and the windows update site (windowsupdate.microsoft.com) gives me a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error message. Other sites appear to work fine.

Also, after having Firefox or IE open for a few minutes, a new tab gets opened telling me I've won some sort of prize.

Security Update for Microsoft Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2572073) keeps saying it needs to install even after it's installed several times. Despite the other issues with the .cab files being digitally signed (and not) -- I've discovered that it also doesn't recognize KB3197867 as missing/needed.

I use another patch management service that indicates that the patch is needed, however the MBSA doesn't show this file as missing -- and therefore it doesn't install.

This patch is not already installed on my system, and if I download an install it manually it's fine -- but the issue is that the MBSA isn't showing it as missing.

Is this a known issue? Or does anyone else have this issue?

This occurring on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue that I just noticed today. Originally, when I would click on links in Google, I would get redirected to some random advertisement site. That was a red flag to me, so I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and went ahead and deleted whatever it found. Then, I started noticing that my Microsoft Security Essentials is not working. It says "Security Essentials is not monitoring your computer because the program's service stopped. You should restart it now." When I click to start it, I get the following message: "Couldn't start the Security Essentials service. The specified service does not exist as an installed service. Error code: 0x80070424." This raised another alarm for me as that usually is a sign of an infection, I believe. I then went to my control panel to check on Windows Update and noticed that the icon for it is just the red shield thing with an X in it. When I click to check for updates, I get: "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I also noticed a little bubble on the Windows Update screen that says, "Find out more about free software from (null). Click here for details." I can't say that I've ever seen that there before, so it's a bit suspicious. Lastly, when I go to check on Windows Firewall, I see it in red and saying "Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings to ... Read more

Try System Restore to before the problem began. This might force Updates to install correctly this time.

If not work through these steps:
Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Forums
System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

If these don't help check the System File integrity: SFC /SCANNOW Command

A:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wi

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus application and if you have a third-party firewall installed, enable the Windows firewall temporarily but disable the third-party one.

This has solved the same problem for many other people according to what I've read elsewhere on other forums. Seems to be a common problem with Net Framework updates.

If this solves the problem and the update installs okay, you can re-enable your antivirus and third-party firewall, but remember to disable the Windows firewall as having two firewalls running together is not advisable.

I recently downloaded the Sims 3 Pets from Origin. Think it's possibly not a coincidence that when I searched through the similar topics for the virus that people had the Sims 3 in their files. I checked the file location for something MalwareBytes picked up and it was created the day I downloaded this game. I can't seem to get rid of this virus. Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall and Windows Update will not turn on. When I scan with M Security Essentials and with M Security Scanner it gets to a certain point and then comes up saying there is a critical error and the laptop will restart in one minute. What can I do to get rid of this virus? I've uninstalled M Security Essentials now and have installed MalwareBytes. My details are:

64 Bit Operating System
Dell Inspiron N7010
Windows 7 Home Premium

The same restarting seems to happen on MalwareBytes. It's got to the same file on a quick scan three times:

C:\Windows\Installer\{c614d3bf-243a-3fd7-a4fd-36cd3756874b}\U

There are three files inside:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

Once it's identified it, it says it urgently needs to restart.

Microsoft Security Essentials identified it as Win64/Sirefef.B
