I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to install Windows7 Home Basic 64-bit

You didn't say why you were installing a fresh copy, but if it because Windows has slowed down to a crawl on your PC, that's a strong indication of drive hardware failure -- and if that is the case, installing a fresh copy is not going to help at all.

I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.
And please if you have an answer, something for me to do, it needs to be A.B.C.'d out step by step as Im not an expert. But I guess I already proved that...
Thank you in advance.

Hi Ramarao,

You may create as many partition as you need but there is very much possibility of data loss after doing this. So I would recommend you to backup your data before doing this. There are many third party patitionaning software available over Internet. Here is a link from where you may download it:

I am trying to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 ultimate RTM version but it doesn't complete the installation. It starts and when i click on the "Upgrade Version" it keeps doing a compatibility check and throws out an htm report (i can't see anything on the report) and ultimately stops the installation.
I didn't choose to do custom install (clean) since windows compatability advisor shows i should be able to upgrade from 32 bit vista home basic to 32 bit windows 7 ultimate.
Anybody saw this? Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks.

For the past 18+ days I've been unable to download and install updates on Windows7 x64. I've tried all the trouble shooters and the update readiness tool, I've sought and received advice from windows answers to no avail, 14 days ago it did allow some updates but now its insists that IE9 on IE is not downloaded when I can see it is and all the time I keep getting Error Codes 80073712 and 9C48 , I've attempted and failed on at least 21 times now and every time it looks like it may make it but then it fails. Please if anyone has any info please let me know as the the response from Windows is pathetic.

Hello, excuse my weak English please, i did search the web & specially this site for what i'm looking for & didn't find it till now.
got a desktop with win7 home basic x64 already installed on it (Russian) - (English/Russian interface), it's registered to my name, got the product key & everything but no installation disk, the recovery partition is 8GB (empty) & can't even see it from my computer (have to go to > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management) so i can locate it, now when i click on it there is only 1 option "help" - can't do anything else not set active, not anything like that, the partition isn't assigned to letter.
Volume: nothing, Layout: simple, Type: Basic, File System: nothing, Status: Healthy (Recovery Partition).

OK what i want to ask is: is there any possible way i can create my own win7 install disc?
creating a restore point or system image isn't helpful for me now as i am stuck with lots of errors/mistakes. want to format & start over again. any tips? help please

sorry again for the weak English, hope you'll be kind enough to reply in simple Englsih.
P.S i did contact the company that made the desktop & they asked for big amount of money to send me the disk & it's only a system image for my desktop model.

A:Help: Creating win7 home basic x64 install CD/DVD (don't have it)

I suspect you have been sold a system with an illegal duplicated product key.

No legitimate company should supply Windows without a functional Recovery Partition and / or Installation Disc.

My reactions would be to :-
Threaten them with a report of problem to Microsoft and your local Consumer Protection authorities;
Follow up with those actions if the company does not immediately give satisfaction.

A:want to install w2003 on a w7 Home Basic genuine

How Can I able to install Windows Server 2003?

You can't install it unless HP has drivers compatible with Windows Server 2003 for that laptop model, which is very unlikely given that it's a new or recent model. They only have Windows 7 drivers for the G6 series according to my research on their website.

Like all laptops, HP laptops need custom-made drivers to match the proprietary hardware, and you can get them only from HP.
So essentially, HP decides which versions of Windows you can use on their computers.

Second, I ran the installation compatibility check for an older computer. It says it failed because the graphics chip won't support Aero. But my understanding is Home Basic doesn't use Aero. So, can Home Basic still be installed on this computer, or will all versions simply fail to install? thanks

Having said that anything is better than Vista - but the specs mate really important to what you should load / install.

A:Vista Home Basic 64 Bit - Trying to install - error on boot?

Did you load the driver? You can download the floppy install driver for the Intel Matrix Manager software, has to be loaded at beginning of setup under Advanced, I beleive. Same area you partitioned and formated drive. Its under here Intel? Matrix Storage Manager - Intel? Matrix Storage Manager support
Under software drivers on that page for the Get F6 floppy installation.
On Vista it's not F6 anymore, that's XP. You load the driver on page you format and partition drive when running setup for Vista. Make sure you know which you need x86 or x64.

Yes, it pretty easy.

Your screen shot is not much use. Disk management always gives more information.

Type diskmgmt.msc in start search box and it will pop up.

You will be better using the official win 7 Home basic installation media. The recovery discs you made will probably be full of oem bloatware.

First off, I must state that I am not trained in computers, but I have been using Windows PCs for many years now. This machine was purchased just a month ago and we have been trying to install Windows updates during this period. I could make out that some of the updates have been installed (eg., Bing desktop and many other important ones), but not all of them. Every time the process stops at about 15% of completion, and the system proceeds to shut down. During subsequent power up, configuration would also progress up to 15% and will be terminated with this display:

"Failed configuring updates, reverting changes" or similar message.

I have tried to gather all the information that was listed in this website (the update posting instructions I received after I registered here) Windows Update Posting Instructions except for one, item 3. Windows update error codes. However I tried, I could not gather this piece of information. If it is the correct thing to do, I can upload the screen shot showing the results of the command prompt scan and also the the zipped CBS file.
I will wait to hear from you.
Thanks for your time

Windows.old is a backup of the old OS (in this case, it's probably the XP installation). I'd suggest exploring it first to see if it contains anything that you want - then delete it to reclaim the space on your system. Also, run a defrag after deleting it so that they system will effectively utilize the space right away.

I have an Acer Netbook running Wondows 7 basic and I have wireless issues. My machine shows that it is connected to my network, but I dont have internet access. I mean, I have it for a couple of days, but then one day it just decides to not let me have internet access. The Windows diagnostics is blaming it on "an issue with the modem" but never specifies. Hard wired computer never have an issue, and this was happening both with my old D-Link router and my brand new Netgear Router. I am connected to the network, but just not getting past the cable modem for some wierd reason.

A:Windows7 Basic internet access problems

if any of the following steps solves your problem the rest will be unnecessary..
First make sure your router isn't set up with an access list
2nd disable any firewall you have running
then delete the wireless profile for your router by going to network and sharing center and selecting manage wireless networks. try reentering your passkey
Then unplug your router and your cable modem, leaving them both off for at least a minute before first starting up the cable modem, then your router. Once the router and modem are both up and running, try connecting again

I'm sure there's a more intelligent progression to the steps above, but very rarely have I not been able to get a laptop to connect after following those steps

Please help, My friend Wants to Buy Windows 7 Ultimate but first wants to try the 30-day trial version. He's using an HP laptop with Windows Home Basic 64-bit OS. He is wondering how to do this so in turn I am asking you guys out here right now. Does it need a clean install? He already downloaded a retail dvd for the Windows 7 Ultimate OS ISO. Also one of his concerns is that there is an image backup of his OS with the system factory settings, we're both wondering if it would still be accessible (it's on a different hdd partition) once he successfully installs the Ultimate OS.

He's doing this at first, and then he's planning to try out Windows 7 Professional next and then decide which to Buy to replace his original OS.

We'd really appreciate any feedback about this.

Hi

I just bought a Dell 15z 5523 Ultrabook (i7-3517U Processor, 8GB DDR 3 1600 Mhz RAM, 256 GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB card etc.) pre-installed with Windows 8, not PRO.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I just hate it. I know I know, some of us don't want to learn new things or be forced to change our ways just because of some corporate's whim....

That being said, I have searched quite a bit online, and still haven't found a reliable resource which can help me remove Windows 8 completely and install Windows 7 Home Basic. Have received a lot of contradictory advise.

Dell did not give me a Windows 8 installation disk. Just a drivers CD. I have the old Windows 7 Home Basic installation disk and drivers. Also, I have already activated 8.

If someone asks me to stick with Windows 8 or give benefits of 8 over 7 or tell me to install stuff like Classic Shell it would be a total waste...

Can someone give me a step by step guide or a link which has everything explained?

Regards

Spinning

I'm using an Asus UX31E laptop. Have been trying to install IE 10 without success either through Windows Update or manual installation. Usually I am able to solve most problems by myself through Googling but this problem has me stumped.

I followed the instructions on posting:
1. ran System Update Readiness Tool
2. ran a sfc/ scannow in command prompt as administrator
3. have taken a screenshot of the error when trying to install via Windows Update. Got code 9C59.
4. Compressed the whole CBS folder into a zip file.

Currently my CBS.zip file is 45mb, too big to attach. Any suggestions?

Please help!

My daughter got a "new" second hand computer and asked me in format and install her Windows XP Home. I did format the 100 gig hard drive and started to install Windows. Part way through the installation it froze and said it couldn't install a certain file. It asked me either to quit the installation or skip installing that file. I quit and tried to install again. That's where the problem began. When I restart the computer it does not boot from the CD but goes to a screen which says:
"NTDR is missing. Press Ctl Alt Del to restart"
I tried to boot form the hard drive and got the same message.
I changed the DVD player from secondary master to slave. Didn't help
I changed the DVD player for a CD ROM player. Didn't help.
The computer is recognizing all the drives.
Can anyone help before there is an instance of patricide in this family?

Unable to install or update any software from all user accounts including Adminstrator on a XP Home system.

Just to give a little background, this is a notebook that my daughter is using in college. She got infected by a virus (unknown type) from an emal sent by her professor. I was too far to help and she took it to their on campus tech center. They were able to clean it out, but she is now unable to install anything. I suspect the technician took the drive out and installed it on a XP Pro system to clean out the virus(s). As a part of the process, he changed the privilleges of the administrator group. The tech center is closed for the summer and I am at a lost on what he did. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Going to XP Pro would be the ultimate goal....One of the other symptoms that I did not mention is this problem is also preventing me from backing up the system.

Hello,
I just formatted my laptop with Windows XP SP2, and since I've misplaced my drivers CD, I downloaded the Ethernet drivers for my laptop, from my PC and transferred it using a CD-RW.
Having installed the ethernet drivers, I activated Windows, and downloaded avast 4.8 Home. I did not do anything else online.

After downloading the installer, when I double clicked it, it showed me the certificate and all, and then the installer started. I clicked Next once... the next screen appeared.. and it vanished before I could even read it. Same thing happens everytime.
I even tried running it as administrator, but it doesn't help.

Please help me. Thanks a lot in advance.

-Pritin

Edit : Also, my Ctr + Alt + Del says "Disabled by administrator", even though I didn't do it. It's just been 2 minutes since I installed Windows.

A:Unable to install avast! 4.8 Home

You seem to not have the correct Windows Installer for the application. The first thing you should do is to run Internet Explorer and type in the address bar: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate and make sure that you click Express to scan for the highest priority updates. It will also look for hardware updates for you. It could take quite a while to download all the updates and install them. After you have everything installed, then try the install for Avast! again.

While installing Dolby HT GUI, its say'n that PCEE needs to be installed.

What is PCEE,How can i get it?? After installing, any problem persists with my previous audio driver?

A:Unable to Install Dolby Home Theatre

According to the Lenovo site, this PC came with Windows 8. The Dolby may be designed for Win 8 and does not work on Win 7. Also, do you have the correct sound driver from Lenovo? If you only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed HD Audio Codec that could also be the problem.

Hello, I recently purchased a new computing system and I am unable to install Xp home edition. I have searched other places on the net but was unable to find an answer.
This is the new parts:
Asus P5GD1 Motherboard
Pentium 4 2.66
Maxtor 80 gig (master)
Kinsgton 512 X2

old Parts
Western digital 160 gig
benq DVD+-

I set the boot order to the benq reader, Insert the windows setup disc and it goes through the procedure up loading all the files, then enters the stop error screen where it displays error 0000007b, Describing such things as check for viruses (I am using brand new master Hard drive), check configuration, remove and new controllers etc.

I tried removing the old 160 gig thinking that it has a chance of a virus, and checked connections on the mother board and elsewhere. Anybody have any tips for completing this installation? This is getting to be very annoying.

A:Unable to install xp home on brand new system

Hi,

Might look a couple of places to start:

First of all, I would download the maxtor utility from their website and prepare your disk from this utility previous to setting up the OS. This utility is free (or if a retail version, came with your new drive) and can partition and format your drive and have it ready to go.

Second, your boot order needs to be:

CD/Dvd - 1st
floppy - 2nd
Maxtor Hard Drive

Don't forget to save before you exit.

Third, make sure you have turned off the raid feature in the BIOS setup menu for your IDE drives to keep it from searching for a raid drive. Don't forget to save before you exit if you change the BIOS setup menu.

Put the Maxtor drive on IDE #1 on the end of the ribbon cable with the jumpers set to master, the CD/DVD in the middle of the ribbon cable with jumpers set to slave.

If everything else is set correctly, you should be able to put the OS disk in the drive, boot up and let it load the OS.

Let us know where you are on this process.

I have a HP Pavillion A620n that needed a new hard drive. Before installing the hard drive I rest the Bios and memory by removing and re-installing them. Installed the new HD and booted the system. The screen came up with press F1 for setup or F2 to continue. Pressed F1 and changed the boot order from the HD to the CD. Saved the settings and rebooted the computer. The same screen came up and this time I pressed F2 to continue. The next screen came up black with a small dash in the top left corner flashing. Tried opening my CD to no avail. Tried opening my DVD to no avail. Now I'm unable to install my OS.
Is there a way to install my OS?

A:Unable to install Windows XP Home Edition

My guess is you need an original OS disk or recovery disk to do the install or is that what you're refering to when you say "Tried opening my CD to no avail."

Hello,

I recently ran into some performance issues with my Acer Netbook. It is an Aspire One that is about 2 years old now. I thought that it was the result of some malware, but was not really sure. Things went from bad to worse when I allowed my brother to "fix" my computer for me. The first thing that he did was open my registry and started looking for things that he said shouldn't be there and then deleted them. I do not have a list of what was deleted and he does not know, but I was watching and it seemed like he deleted and/or changed several things. When I continued to experience problems he tried to fix my computer again. This time he ran COMODO System Cleaner and a Free Windows Registry Repair. Things have still not improved. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, it will not boot to a home screen. When this happens I turn off the power and turn it back on again, it seems like if I do this 1-3 times, eventually the computer will start up to a home screen. I tried to run the ACER system reboot, but that program is no longer available. I have tried to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, but I get a message that "A disk read error has occurred." All that I want to do at this point is to completely reinstall Windows XP. I have the product key from the sticker on my computer. But, I don't know how I can do this because I do not have a CD ROM and I do not have a Windows XP CD. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for any help th... Read more
