I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey Guys,Im trying to get a laptop working for my brother. He has a Yoga 500-14IBD. The laptop works perfectly fine with the current hard drive running windows 10.He has been sent out a new hard drive which has been preloaded with windows 10 but adapted with specialised software (which shouldn't be too important for the issue).I installed the new hard drive into the Laptop and it won't boot past the Windows Boot Manager. The laptop does recognise the Hard drive and see's it is connected but wont boot into it. Where it gets weird is that I tried this hard drive in my other Lenovo T420 Laptop and it boots into the hard drive no problems. This rules out hard ware issues. Is there something which needs to be adjusted in the BIOS to allow the Yoga to boot up into this hard drive? I have tried switching from UEFI Mode or Legacy BIOS mode but this didnt make any real difference. There was an error showing in Legacy mode regarding PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Error but this occurred when the laptop worked in my T420 so it shouldnt be related.  I have tested another Windows 10 installation Hard drive on the Yoga (the one from my T420) and it worked. Just a note the hard drive that isnt working is not and SSD but the ones which are working are SSD'sAny advice would be appreciated

Hi Everyone, I'm at my wits end and was hoping someone might be able to help me understand what exactly I need to do, purchase to bring my laptop back to life. Long story short, I have had this for just over 2 years, no more warranty and the hard drive I believe is going out/has gone out. It all started with a failed windows 10 upgrade, kept looping, finally I blew away I guess everything on it. Now when I am trying to re-instal windows 8.1 it tells me that it cannot because the hard disk may fail soon. I can get mostly through the windows setup but it always ends up failing. My question is, can someone help me identify what exactly needs to be replaced? I am fairly tech savy good at following directions and installing things by myself. (garbage disposals, haha). What I am not good at is trying to track down what hard drive to buy would be? I hate to bring it to best buy as its $200 just for a diagnosis and then whatever to fix it on top of that.  Can anyone offer insight and help me become enlightened? Thanks so much, L

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR with the 32gb internal hard drive. I thought it would suit my purpose well as I only want to use it to run software to check error codes on my car (not much hard drive capacity required). I'm really disappointed though as I thought it would be super-fast to boot and use with 32gb SSD that only runs the operating software; how wrong I was... Long story short I?m trying to improve the performance and would like to install a 64gb SSD; I have remove the back and found the connector (SATA_CONN1) but it has no cable connector. Does this mean the motherboard will not support a SATA drive or does it mean I need a connector soldered on (this looks very tricky as the pins are so close together). See attached photos of the inside of my notebook and the connector cable I intended to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated; if I don?t get this resolved the notebook will be going in the bin and I?ve wasted a reasonable amount of money. Final resort is to down grade from windows 10 to windows 7 and free up some disk space. I?d like to do this anyway but struggled for 6 hours already to undertake this task; I keep receiving an Error Code: 0x6 Thanks, Richard

Please can someone give some links to where to buy the additional stuff? I was thinking of replacing the RAM with an 8GB one. And maybe switch to an i7 (I saw a pre-owned one for like 20 only on ebay!) but I have no idea if it is compatible with these upgrades. Any advice will be appreciated!!

I had real trouble finding a straight answer to the question of whether there were still problems upgrading to Windows 10 on the Yoga 2 Pro three years after it was released (I upgraded in August 2018). This post is just to add my positive experience so that others might find it when searching instead of having the usual problem that only negative experiences are reported. So, basically I was moving from Windows 8.1 64 bit to Windows 10 Build 17134 and the short version is that absolutely nothing bad happened.  I did have all my firmware/drivers up-to-date, so I didn't even have to make any changes there. The only problem I have encounted is one that I already had, which is to do with Bluetooth cutting out maybe because of WLAN interference (seems to vary with intensity of use). So overall I am happy with the result.  Especially as I successfully used the tool described in this ZDNet article to perform the Windows 10 upgrade for free even though officially it stopped being offered on this basis years ago: https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

If you're able to make the switch, do you have the means of installing Windows 7 Professional 64-bit in it?

Today I experienced 4 times a 'hard shut down' of my Yoga laptop when browsing Chrome.- the screen went black within 1 minute after launching google chrome and browsing chrome --> the laptop then 'died' in without any notifications or error. I did not ever experience this before. I was hoping that Chrome was the issue, so I de-installed it. Unfortunately that was not it ... Now the same happens when I pull out the 'power connection', the laptop then shuts down hard, and will not come alive anymore, I can only turn it on when the power is plugged.- this now looks like a broken battery issue, however with the experience of the multiple 'hard shut downs' on the same day (with power plugged) I am not that sure anymore... Is there anyone that has an idea what could be the issue? many thanks, Jeroen

Hello, Yesterday I bought a new lenovo yoga 720 (15) along when lenovo active pen 2. The laptop is fantastic, but the pen experience is not great. It is not writing smoothly. I had to put some pressure to write on the screen. At first I thought the pen is faulty, however I noticed that at some parts of the screen the pen is able to write so smoothly, whereas in other parts, the pen is facing friction. I don't know what to make of it. I cleaned the screen, changed the nibs, tested on different apps (one note, xodo) but it is showing the same behavior. To be specific, the left bottom and right bottom of the screens are smooth to write on whereas the top area is causing friction.  Any solutions to resolve this?  Thank you

A week ago, a strange clicking noise befalled us whenever we attempted to boot the system. The BIOS welcome screen would run for much longer than usual, and then a message "No internal hard drive found." would display. We thought it would be a hard drive error and replaced it.

Now, however, placing in a bootable OS installation CD does not work! Whenever we try, the computer acts like there is no CD (although sometimes the CD does begin to spin), and says there is no boot device available.

I have tried a Ubuntu CD, a Windows Vista CD, a Windows XP CD, and none of them work. It does not matter what CD you put in; it does not work.

So what is the problem? Is it fixable? Was it the hard drive that broke?

The system is a Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop.

A:Solved: After upgrading hard drive for Inspiron 5150 laptop, CD drive does not work

Never mind, everyone! It turns out, after I took it out and put it back in, it worked again. Maybe a connection problem... who knows.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Has anyone undertaken an upgrade of the hard drive in a Libretto U100 to a SSD? This would surely improve performance significantly. What dimension is the hard drive in the U100 and what connector is used to attach the drive? Can anyone advise if this mod is possible?

Spymaster

A:Upgrading hard drive in Libretto U100 to SSD Drive

So, I have a machine with an SSD drive (Tecra M5) and it works like a charm. Unfortunately the drives are too expensive at the moment but you can gain some real performance.

Regarding your question: Should be possible. You have a 1.8" inch drive installed and there are SSD drives which have almost the same form factor. Usually the U100 was shipped with MK6006GAH or MK3006GAL drives.

Here?s a site which could help you, since the drive has the same connector like the drive in your machine: http://www.dvnation.com/microatapics.html

Just check it out and I hope you can use my hint for further research on SSD drives.. :)

New here..in fact, fairly new to computers. I have Dell PC that a friend gave me when he got a new one. It is a Pentium III (550 mhz) with 384 mb of ram and running Windows 98SE. It has a 6gb hard drive which I want to upgrade. So I have bought a 40bg Maxtor hard drive. Ideally, I would like to create a small segment (maybe 2gb) for the os and leave the rest for my other programs. I want to do this because the last PC I had, a Packard Bell with Windows 95, was always self-destructing and I had to use the recovery disk to reload the os at least 4 times a year, thus losing all my programs every time. While I find 98SE to be much more stable, I thought segmenting the drive would be a good idea. Am I wrong about this? Can I just fire up the PC with this new hard drive in it, install the os and use a program like Partiton Magic (I have a disk for this) to segment the hard drive or is there more to it than this? Do I have to format the new hard drive in some manner? I appreciate any help you can give this old timer. Thanks.

Does Windows 7 Ultimate have a utility that will allow me to upgrade my hard drive? I want to copy my installation from the old drive to a new drive and then take the old drive out of the PC? I don't want to have to make an image then reinstall the image to the new drive.

I know that there is software that can do this but if Windows does it I would like to keep to a minimum the amount of software I have installed.

If not what is highly rated software that does this task?

I like to do clean installs regularly but I don't like to have to make new images when I change how I have my system or have to do a lot of software installs after I re-image my drive.

I am going to do a clean install to my internal drive and an identical install to a USB drive that I can run Windows from. The purpose is this, Windows installation evolves with time, new settings, configurations, and software installation. An Image file is fairly static, there is little change that can be made to it, you may be able to delete or copy a file but you cannot change systems configuration, install or uninstall software to the image. With Windows install to a bootable USB drive I can decide to add any settings, configurations, or software installation to it that I like on the internal drive after a trail period.

Is there a way to change the drive letter to c:??

Thanks in advance

Basically, no. All system drive paths in the registry now point to H:.

How did you transfer? If you used Drive Image or Acronis, you had the option to hide the new partition from the old. You can then name the new drive as you want.

Hello...
I currently have a 36 GB SCSI u160 on my Dell Precision 530- Windows XP Prof. (upgrade). The drive Im looking at adding is the Seagate ST3146707LW- 146GB, u320. I have a series of questions:

1.) Will this drive will be compatible with my machine? Other forums indicate that the u320 drive will default to the u160 speed (I have an Adaptec AIC-7892 PCIif that helps)
2.) Once Ive backed up all of my info, is it just a matter of installing the new drive giving it SCSI ID 0 (and giving the old one a different ID#) and reformatting? Or are there additional steps that I need to go through?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I have an Hewlett-Packard Pavilion PC, Model 8240. This system is a Pentium 233 MMX CPU, 96MB SDRAM, and Win95 OS. The current system has a 4GB Hard drive. I have an opportunity to aquire a Quantum 20.5GB Fireball Plus Hard drive.

My 1st question - Will it work as a replacement for my system? I have read that alot of the past system could only handle up to 8.4GB max.

I want to upgrade to Win98.

My 2nd question - If the above drive will work, can I put my original drive as the 2nd hard drive and pull off the files from the original drive onto the new one. Or will the Win95 OS being installed on the original drive conflict with new one. I am trying to avoid backing up all my files and I have alot of them. If I had a CDRW, backup wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the info.

A:Upgrading Hard Drive

Being that you want to upgrade to win98 I would think the best way to do it would be to remove your current drive by disconnecting the ide cabe, leave it physically in the machine.
Install the new drive as master.
Fdisk and format the new drive, choose y to the lba message, if your system won't see the entire drive you may have to use a manufacturers overlay to get the full size.
Install win98 to the new drive, it will ask for your original win95 cd to verify if it's an upgrade version.
Once you have win98 running, reconnect your old drive and set it as master or slave depending on which ide you have to put it on.
You should be able to copy what you need off the drive then you can format it and use it for backup or whatever

How much should I plan on spending for a hard drive?

What is a good brand to buy from?

Should I get a 7,200 rpm or 10,000 rpm hard drive?

Can I transfer my files on my old hard drive to the new one without losing/corrupting some of the files? Will I still have all the shortcuts and start menu items when I transfer? Will it be exactly the same as with the smaller hard drive except with more space?

Thank you for your help.

We will need the full model number to post specific upgrade instructions. Some recent models are very difficult to disassemble, but any laptop with a SATA hard drive will run a SATA SSD. The best one on the market in terms of price/performance is the Samsung Evo 850: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E500B-AM/dp/B00OBRE5UE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491858147&sr=8-2&keywords=Samsung+Evo+850 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi guys I?m new to the forum and need some help. I?ve never had this problem before and am at a loss for just what to do.

Upon restarting yet again I decided to go back into windows and look for a solution. Remembering that there?s an option to manually dismount the HD and reformat it in Windows that?s what I decided to try. However, this is where I?ve run into a serious snag as the HD will not dismount no matter what I try to do. I?ve deleted any spare accounts thinking this might be the problem, reloaded into safe mode, without any luck attempting the same procedures and have manually tried to dismount it every way I can think of but the system still refuses to dismount the drive or even give me the option to reformat it ...
