COD4 Server Issue

Q: COD4 Server Issue

I downloaded the 1.6 and 1.7 patches to my Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

For the past month I have been playing CoD4 with no problems. But after I installed the patch, non of the servers on the server list show up. I click refresh, and it connects to the master server, but then nothing appears.

I know for certain that my firewall isn't blocking anything.

IS there a way to fix this so the servers come up? Or even a way to remove the patch so I can go back to the older version that actually worked?

Preferred Solution: COD4 Server Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I forwarded 28960...blah blah blah...

Okay, so now I start a new server...after setting it up, COD 4 exits, and opens CoD4 Console like usual...
(My server is dedicated to internet)

I open CoD4 back up
So now I look at my lan list...and theres nothing there...odd...
I type /connect (My External IP)
and it goes awaiting connection... 1...2...3...4..5..6 and it keeps going until it says

"Server connection timed out"

I dont know whats wrong!?
Anyone know how to help me?

this is really starting to get to me.

I've reinstalled COD4 numerous times for Numerous reasons. i tried running the game without a sound card at one point cause the nboard sound on this PC shorted out. i took the sound drivers out, never realized it NEEDED the sound card. dumbass me.

so now i pop my audigy 2 ZS in, game starts and runs ok.

but it runs ok.

heres the specs:
AMD Opteron 146 OC'd to 2.5 ghz (for now)
512MB RAM (yes i know this is a bottle neck, but i have no more money)
Radeon X850 Pro (my moms PC has the same card)
DFI NF4 Ultra-D motherboard

when i start the game, and go to the server browser it seems to be running fine.
but when i click rfresh server list, it starts refreshing, MAD SLOW. i'm talking instad of 100 per second its doing maybe 30 per second. its so freakin slow, i cannot figure out whats wrong. tried both onboard ethernets, tried reinstalling drivers, checked the internet speed (used speedtest, then compared it to another computer in the same network), ran 3d mark 03 and came up with 11107 points, good enough when looking at the futuremark orb.

so its isolated to call of duty.

or so i thought.

i installed quake 4 and during the server browser it does the same thing as COD4 does. it finds servers mad slow, and doesn't go as fast as it should.

but why won't it work? i mean the freakin game runs great on my Athlon XP 1700+ @ 2.2ghz with 512MB's RAM and a 9600XT, i mean. come on, somethings gotta give.

Are you using a firewall or router? If yes, try using a direct connection to the modem and see if that makes a difference.

My problem happened a week ago. I logged into cod4 multiplayer and refreshed list and all of the servers were locked (100%)of them. They were also showing that no one was playing in those servers (98%) of the time. So I randomly selected a few servers and Message: Invalid Password. "OK" I said so restarted my computer. Same problem, so I updated my drivers, checked ports, made sure my firewall was on ...(all good so far). Then went to auto update and started downloading all the patches in order. Installed them, went back into game..(still didn't work). Restarted computer....(still the same problem). I tried starting a new server myself and I can get into a multiplayer game and run around and blow up cars (all by myself).
So I uninstalled cod4, all patches, and re-installed it. Re-installed patches, updated drivers, checked ports.... No success. Same thing happens with all the locked servers.
Can someone give me some more insight? I may be looking in the wrong place.
I'm running windows xp, ATI Radeon HD 2600XT, 4GIGs RAM. My system can support the game for sure. But my problem is with the locked servers.
Please help.

A:Solved: cod4 server problem

OK. I guess I figured it out. You have to delete Everything related to cod4 with the uninstall. Before I tried to keep my stats (10days worth). But uninstalling everything then re-installing it does work but you loose all your stats. Sucks but it works now.

A:Solved: cod4 dedicated server

I am afraid I cannot remember the COD4 dedicated server setup procedure (I have not played recently). However, I thought you could set it up without having to configure the target line thing. If it is similar to COD5, then you should be able to set it up within the game.

I am hoping someone here can help me figure out why this is happening. When I play Call of Duty 4, the game will often go black...sometimes I get an audio loop of a second or two and my PC reboots, or sometimes i have to do a hard reset to get back to playing. I know it's an old game but it's one most of my friends play. I read the instructions and have attached the zip file.

I suspect it was sound related. I followed a suggestion that stated to disable on board audio which I did but I still crash same as I did prior to the change. Before I disabled On Board Audio the BBCode I was getting was 116 and not BCCode "a" like I am now, not sure if that is good or not but I would truly appreciate any help anyone can give me on this!

Thanks for your time,

Hi, I played the cod4 demo on my laptop with the following settings:

Textures - Normal
Texture Filtering - Trilinear
Anisotropic filtering - Full
Model Detail - Normal
Ragdoll - On
Rest - Lowest settings

I can get a good 30+fps and in close quarters I get 70+.

Can I run the full game (sp and mp) with the same settings and get the same fps? I'm particularly worried about maps with lots of grass (overgrown, epic sniper level in sp) as I heard it kills the frame rate.

Also just wondering, how come I can't set model detail to high? Do I need SM3.0 for that?

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.

Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
Check various registry entry settings.
Disabled cashing on the File server.
Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2

Any help or ideas would be most welcome.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

It may not be as hard core as Battlefield 3 but they do keep upgrading to high res graphics. My computer is a prebuilt Dell Studio XPS 8000. Intel i7 core 860 processor @ 2.8GHz. Graphics card a Nvidia geforce GTS 240. 8 Mb memory, Windows 7 home premium os. Now that said I am experiencing stutter sometimes while i'm playing. My fps go from 60 which is where it should be to 10 or less. I,m not sure if this is the game card or a lousy connection to the game server as we do get discoed sometimes. The computer is a year and a half old and don't remember experiencing this before that much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not against getting a new card and probably need new power supply.

I am averaging around 30-50 fps in my game and i want to know if there is anything i can do to increase this, cos atm im getting a lot of FPS lag, and it really mucks my gaming up to the point that i cant really play properly. When i look up to the sky it shoots up to about 70-80, but 99% of the time it is in the red. It is even dropping to below 15 at some points and then i cant really do anything.

Below are my PC specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Hard Drive: Radeon X1550 Series
Video Card: Radeon X1550 Series (512mb)

My current in-game screen resolution is set to 800x600, and even if i lower it i still experience the same FPS around 30-40. I also have everything turned off aswell or set to low, yet this still doesnt help

Any help would be much appreciated as it is really irritating now.

Q: CoD4

How much of a difference will this make?

Hi, I am getting a lot of fps drops (normally from 40-55, and sometimes as low as 30-40). My PC is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ EE
Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2X1GB

My computer is more than capable of maintaining 60+ fps at the settings I am using, which are:

1280X800 resolution
Everything on or high, except for:
Sync Every Frame
Specular Map
Depth of Field
Soften Smoke Edges
Model Detail

What can I do to get 60+ fps constantly? I am already using the latest video drivers, and the AMD dual core fix (both of them). I have Windows XP SP3.

A:Lag in CoD4:MW.

Anybody? Also, I forgot to mention that I also have AA off. And, my resolution is now 1280X720.

Hey, I decided to try the CoD4:MW demo today, but I got lag on 1280X960 and low-medium settings. The fps went to as low as 21 sometimes, but usually stayed around 50ish. I know it seems kind of realistic on those settings, but I heard from a lot of people that my game should be able to run on high (not max!) settings. What would those be defined as?

Here is my PC:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.5GHz CPU
Mushkin 2X1GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM

Could it be my drivers? I have the latest from NVIDIA's website. Also a possible solution is that I'm running PeerGuardian and uTorrent right now, both of them turned on (the latter is currently downloading a big file, around 4GB). Could that be it? I have everything on the control panel turned off for CoD4:MW, so I don't know what else to do, lol. I don't want to play on the absolute minimum settings!

(Sorry for the long read)

I uninstalled CoD4 on my computer; I am now trying to reinstall it. And even after trying so many different things and scouring the internet for solutions I am still unable to get it to install.

I'm running vista.

Let me start from the beginning:

I uninstalled the game, after doing so I found that I didn't uninstall it completely as it was still showing up on my "programs/features" list. So I attempted to uninstall it again and failed. Well after trying again I gave up and went on to other things. This was a while ago.

Today, I tried installing a different copy of CoD4 and after running the autorun on the CD I clicked "install" and it said it was loading up the installer. Then, it popped up asking me if I wanted to UNINSTALL CoD4, realizing that it was picking up on the copy I failed to uninstall before, I figured it would be able to clear that up and then let me install afterwards. Well, the uninstallation was instantaneous and when it popped up for me to click finish I did so. When I tried to install the game again... it did the same thing, instead of letting me install the game it asked if I wanted to uninstall.

Worried I searched google and found that some other people were having the same problem so I followed the instructions... which led me to do this:

-go in Regedit
-Find every item that had "Call of Duty" in it and Deleted them
-restart my PC
-Try to install again only to find that it still did... Read more

I have an issue with Cod4 online. Whenever I join a server with Punkbuster, I get stuttering/hiccups at the very start when I first join the server.

For instance, on my lagometer I get yellow bars passing through above the middle blue line. These bars pass through at 4 second intervals of one another. This maybe lasts for about 30-45 seconds. Then it clears up. However, sometimes they will re-occur in the middle of my game. Obviously when the Yellow bars appear, I stutter for about a second, with 4 second intervals.

I'm certain that it's a Punkbuster issue. I've read other threads, but I've yet to find a fix. Some say it's due to Vista, but I'm running XP Pro 32 bit. I've done some research into Port Forwarding, but that's only useful if your using a router. I tried playing Cod4 with my router and then only my modem, however the problem still persisted. So, Port Forwarding is eliminated from the remedy for this issue.

Any suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated as I'm eager in finding a solution.

Yeah ... COD 5 crashes all the time.... every 5 minutes it will freeze and I have to C-A-D to task manager to reset ..... it gets a CPU spike ... tried all the solutions on the activision site but to no avail. I only bought the computer 2 weeks ago. It plays COD 4 perfectly.

What should I do? Should I load DirectX9c .... if so how do you disable DirectX10 to load DirectX9c..... or is some tweak in the settings?

So i figured out how to turn on the FPS display and find out that in those certain parts of maps i get a frame rate of like 25 - 50 and sometimes over 70 .. when its over 40 its not as annoying and i can deal with it .. but i also get some sudden drops down around 10. I looked inside of my case to see if i had some dust build up.. which i do and i am going to be getting some compressed air tomarrow and spray out all that dust.. i think i have enough cooling.. i have 2 exhaust fans and 2 intake. The video card i have is the Radeon ( sapphire make) X1650 with 512 mb. The rest of my system is

Pentium D 3.0 dual core
2048 gigs of memory both sticks are kingston
stock sound
100 gig harddrive with 56 gigs left for space
450watt powersupply by logisys

i think i have covered it all if not let me know what i am missing and i will fill in
thank you !

This may be off the subject of Vista OS, but I would like to backup my personal data and rank on CoD4 multi-player. What files I need to save. Thanks.

A:Backup myself....CoD4

Well, I found the answer:

"try this... go into C: drive, look for the Activision folder, open that, you will see a folder that says players, open that you will see a folder that says profiles copy and paste that folder to a backup hard drive, flash jump drive, cd or what ever you choose.
this way if you ever loose your stats, harddrive, what ever , you can just reinstall the game using your original screen name, log on to multiplayer then logout close out the game, replace the "profiles" folder into the C: Activision\ players\profiles and paste your saved b-up over the new one choosing yes to all when prompted, you will have all your controlls, stats, etc back. you need the new patch as well I believe its 1.5.

This seems to be a great little tool to back your rank up, that way you won't have to worry about the IW server crashing, not saving your rank, and you being shiz out of luck.

Heres the download.

My Call of Duty 4 seems to hang up in Singleplayer and multiplayer even though my system is good enough to meet the requirements for this game.

My specs are:
Vista Home Premium 64 Bit
4.0 GB of Ram
AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core Processor
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (Integrated)

Even though you may meet the min system req., with the hd 3200 series gpu you'll need to use low video settings. Even then, when things get complex with a lot happening in the battle the 3200 probably can't keep up. The rest of you're system is fine. I experienced the same thing with a 9800 pro. You really need a high end gpu to run COD4 smoothly. I now have an HD 4870 and the difference is amazing.

Hmm...I might be able to help out a bit. Can you give me a complete, step-by-step to recreate the problem? When/where does it freeze? Always?

Looks like a pretty decent system, so I doubt that's going to be the issue. But, we'll have to see. My guess is software setting somewhere.

Hello all, I'm Dave!!! This is my first time posting here so please take that into mind.

I have been playing CoD for about 5 years or so now and recently have had this problem. First of all, I did not download CoD from steam, but rather bought the CD to install the game. It is legit and not downloaded or hacked or anything like that.

So, as I said, I've played for a while with no problems. I played it on a computer I had just before the one I'm using now as I recently upgraded (built a new machine) in trying to stop this problem from happening. When I had this problem crop up, I tried the following steps to find out what the problem was:

1. Bought a new video card (old card was a Radeon Sapphire Nitro - https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-r7-370-100386nt4gocl/p/N82E16814202152?Item=N82E16814202152). The new card (which is the one I'm using now and used in the previous machine is an NVidia GeForce one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4KGTNI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
2. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game (several times)
3. Tried running it with no other drives attached in the machine

So, here is the problem.
I play a map.......no problems in game play I might add and the map ends. The title of the new map comes up and if don't have the map file on my machine the download proceeds and I get all 3 files needed. I believe it's on the download of the third file that the download stops and I have a win... Read more

I just upgraded my machine to a BFG overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB to handle the newer games coming out. I also beefed up my power supply to 550 watts to provide the needed power. Anyhow, I just got Call of Duty 4 and I'm having a lot of problems with it. At first it ran fine, smooth with no errors. I played mostly at 1280x900 or something. Than it started crashing randomly, my game would freeze up then a blank screen, than I could do nothing. I tried playing on lower resolutions like 1024x768 and usually it made it better. Sometimes I could play fine, other days it would repeatidly crash. Now I can rarely make it into a server without a crash even in the lower resolutions. I've been constantly updating my Video drivers, as well as Direct x drivers. Other than that, I have a Pentium Dual core 2.8 ghz processor and run 2 gigs of ram. Could someone help me sort this out?

Hi guys pretty new here and just wanted to ask a question about my fps in Call of Duty 4.
Ill give you my setup first:

AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz

4.00GB RAM

Windows Vista 64-bit Operating system

ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics card.

Ok well i havent played cod4 before on this rig, because ive been playing Counter strike:source and on CS:S i get around 60fps and drops no lower than 50 and that is maximum settings, but it seems that when i run COD4 i get terrible fps (around 5-15 max!) and to me that is wierd as the half life 2 engine seems to be more graphically better than cod4 engine. Ive tried everything to changing packets to changing fps to "0", "125" and "250" and still the lag persists. I used http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/ to check if my pc was capable (i fully knew that it was) but just to make sure, and i was on the end of the scale.

If anyone could give me any advice to maybe stop this horrible lag that would fantastic,

Thanks Matt

P.s all of my drivers are up to date of what i know of, i only used to windows updater on the properties to check and nothing showed up.

Whenever i play Call of Duty 4 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 i get a BSOD within 30-60min of gameplay.
I Recently reinstalled windows 7 and havn't had trouble with BSOD on this computer witch is about 2 years old. Also since i got my new HDD i have sudden short freezes for 3-6 sec. when i empty trash can or open a movie or during a movie and such.
I acctually never gets BSOD when playing thease 2 games, it just freezes and sound is like repeating over and over. I wait for 3-4min and no BSOD so i reset my PC and i open BlueScreenView and it says: The problem seems to be caused by the follow file: Ntoskrnl.exe.

Updating & resetting BIOS.
Take out CPU, RAM, GPU and put them back in after removing dust.
Setup Realtek HD Audio Manager like i used to do when COD4 "stopped working" (Cod4 and Realtek onboard sound is not very good friends).
Change Anti-virus program from Windows Security Essentials to NOD32
