I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I looked online and I'm still a bit confused whether I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchase. Can someone explain to offer a suggestion as to which one is best?

Thank you in advance.

A:dual band wifi card vs single band wifi card

I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchaseClick to expand...

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?

what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously

the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be

if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term

some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

I'm having problems with my pavilion 17-G192DX.  when I have the wifi on, it works for about 10 minutes, then basically shuts down my home network - TV locks up, no other computers can access the internet.  As soon as I turn the wifi off, everything goes back to normal.  HP troubleshooting can find nothing...when the thing is working, that is.  I'd like to upgradethe wifi card with a dual band unit?  I'm thinking the Intel 7260 2x2.  Will that work in this computer?  Any other options?  P/N is V0Q01UA.

A:can I put a dual band wifi card in my pavilion 17-G192DX not...

Yes you can install any wireless card of the right form factor which for your laptop is an M.2 adapter. See the Manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655191 The 7260ac is a mini-pcie card and is not compatible but you could MAYBE install an Intel 8260ac card: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-8260AC-8260NGW-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B01ERMBDCK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&q... Start on p. 31 with removal of the back cover and read through p. 39. The hesitation is that, to install a dual band card you must have 2 antennae and on some HP models with lower-end wireless cards there is only one. So if you want to do this I recommend open it first and count antennae. If two, you can install the card linked above, which will perform as well as any wireless card you can buy.  Let us know if there are other questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as SOlution" to help others find it.

Ok so i have a shot in the dark question, I am not sure on what parts are avalable for this laptop. I just picked this up on a trade and so far has been a pretty decent little machine. It has stock 2.4ghz wifi, which i know is pretty standard. My question is, is there a different internal wifi card i can replace the stock on with that will give me access to both 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz. I have been considering going the usb adapter route for both wifi bands but would like to keep some usb ports avalable without needing to get a small hub. Any info would be Appreciated! Thanks

Hi: Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03593667 Unfortunately the 3 supported wireless cards listed in chapter 3 are all single band cards. Back when your notebook was produced, HP had a BIOS whitelist which prevents any other wlan card from working other than the ones listed in the service manual.

Hi,You can install dual band wireless cards only if there is 2 antennas from factory, else you need to do major disassembly of entire notebook including the display panel area to properly run the required 2nd antenna, cables. Hello

I recently got the newest NETGEAR router device, the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router, and I am unable to connect to the 5GHz WiFi it provides on its Tri-band WiFi. I am currently only on its 2.4GHz WIFI, which I assume is lesser than the 5G. I am able to connect to the 5GHz on my smart phone, so I know it exists from the router. I am running a windows 8.1 currently on a desktop on an HP Envy 700-213 Desktop PC.

Edit: My computer supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n radio types - which supports 5GHz WiFi
My adapter is a Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Any ideas for why I am unable to connect to this WiFi?

A:Unable to connect to 5GHz Wifi on NETGEAR Tri-Band Router

The most likely explanation is that the wifi adapter in your HP Envy 700-213 doesn't support the 5Ghz band.

If you really want to connect at 5Ghz you will need to get a new wifi adapter for your computer.

Hi,
Just purchased a 13" Inspiron 5000, got it set up, things are going fine. Then I do a speed test on wifi. As background, I have 1gbps broadband with an Ubee cable modem/router that supports AC protocol. I have a 3 year old Lenovo laptop with an Intel DB 7260ac that pulls in 300-400mbps. I also have a 5 year old MacBook Pro with airport extreme b/G/n card that pulls in 250mbps. The new Inspiron only gets 150mbps.
I've been trying to figure out why. The 3165ac card in the Dell has a theoretical max of 433mbps. That's already disappointing, since gigabit broadband is now available. But working with that, I have the Ubee router set to N/AC only protocols, using 5Ghz, wmm on, 80Mhz bandwidth, SSID set. It seems like it should agree with the 3165ac card to negotiate the fastest speed, but it seems like I'm only getting half N speeds.
I have the latest Intel drivers, windows fully updated, removed all bloatware. All speed tests (ookla, Google fiber, Xfinity, etc) are consistent. Is this a limitation of the wifi card? Of note, I see the 3165ac is a 1x1 card. My Lenovo has a 2x2 card. I just makes no sense that my newest laptop has the slowest speed.

A:Brand new 13" Inspiron 5000 wifi capped at 150mbps (dual band 3165ac)

The 1x1 antenna design is the culprit.  The AC7260 remains a great 2x2 card even today, and the AirPort Extreme card is probably 3x3 since it's 802.11n (it's rare to see 3x3 AC devices other than routers). Extra antennas allows multiple simultaneous data streams, which can significantly increase maximum real-world throughput. The fact that the 3165 is rated for "up to" 433 Mbps is pretty meaningless in the real world, just like every other WiFi speed quoted in marketing materials.  The AC7260 is rated for 867 Mbps, for example, and clearly you're not getting that level of performance out of it either, although in fairness, the only WiFi ROUTERS that can push that kind of bandwidth in the real world to begin with are very recent 4x4 802.11ac routers (like my ASUS RT-AC88U), and then only when acting as a media bridge to another 4x4 802.11ac router. There aren't any 4x4 AC clients to handle that, so making the most of gigabit Internet still requires a wired connection for now.Anyhow, if you're comfortable opening up your system, you can see whether there's an extra antenna already in the chassis (its connector would probably have a plastic sleeve around it since that card can't use it), in which case you could buy something like an Intel 8265 for ~$30 (in the US) from Amazon/eBay, which is their latest and greatest 2x2 AC card.  If you only have a single antenna in the chassis, then you may be stuck.  You MIGHT be able to... Hi All,

Win8:
I have two wifi APs in the home and I have it all set up so that one is the Internet by cell phone tether and the other is the cabled network via the router wifi.

Works just fine - except.

On wifi 1, Internet I have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does.

On wifi 2, Network I also have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does NOT do. I have to go in and connect manually even though the "Connect automatically" is checked.

It seems win8 sees "Connect automatically"and does it but then stops checking other connections. Probably a "feature."

Is there some way to force both "Connect automatically" to happen?

Thanks

A:Wifi Auto-Connect to two-wifi APs, problem

There is a group policy setting for this, but even if both are connected you will only be using one of those connections at a time.

So my ipod touch does not want to connect to any wifi network that requires a logon page, as in an html web page where you are required to enter details to access a wifi hotspot.

I have one of these at work which I can access for free and it was working fine up until a week ago. Now it wont connect to any internet that requires an html logon page, not just the one at my work.

I should say that it does actually connect to the network it just wont log on to the login page, therefore the ipod assumes that it does not connect to the internet.

It still connects to my home network just fine.

Any ideas?

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

OK, this is my first time being a part of or using a tech related forum so here it goes:

I'm trying to help save a neighbor some money by fixing their wireless network.

WNDR3700 Dual band Netgear router.

2.4ghz wireless b/g/n with enabled SSID broadcast, channel=auto, mode set to 130Mbps
WPA-TKIP + WPA2-AES. wireless isolation is not enabled.

5Ghz wireless a/n enabled SSID broadcast, channel = 44, Mode is up to 300Mbps
No security encription. (i know...bad, but the lady has lots of kids and family members coming
and going from the house so she doesn't want one encripted). Video network enabled

Both Radio frequencies are enabled, fragment and CTS/RTS set to max

WPS settings = keep existing.

IPv6 not enabled, No repeating is enabled, No guest networks are enabled(however ssid broadcast is enabled for guest profile 1)
The problem, and reason for fixing the problem is that the 2.4 Ghz band light on the router is ON however the SSID is not being seen by any client in the house. the netgear interface says it is on and working. the neighbor needs the 2.4ghz band to work because the printer is wireless and will only recognize 2.4Ghz SSIDs. Also they have older nintendo DS clients they would like to use on the network.

During the day the 5 Ghz band works with very seldom (1-2) disconnects while the 2.4 Ghz band wont be visible to any device. in the evening both bands will come online, and very often will every computer get disconnected from either, the 5Ghz band wi... Read more

Hi, I have a HP 250 G3 laptop and I'd like to upgrade the N wifi card on it to a Dual AC wifi card. There are quite a few options available  on Amazon but I don't know which one to pick up. Vendors and Users have conflicting ideas. Where can I get sound information about the right AC wifi card? Thanks for your time, Aaron

A:What is the right AC Dual Wifi card for HP 250 G3 laptop?

Your notebook has a 1x1 antenna. It would have to have a 2x2 antenna setup to use 802.11ac. Unfortunately, That means that an  802.11ac wifi adapter won't broadcast or receive any signal broadcast by an SSID using 802.11ac protocol.  I suggest  that you save your money and purchase a notebook that already has the capability of using an 802.11ac adapter. This is the list of optionally installed adapters that could be in your notebook now.

OKey here is the plit-> i have a usb modem that i connect into my laptop wihch has wifi n all that now i create an adhoc n/w first on lapi--the xbox detects and connects but still test connection fails(the xbox is unable to connect to the adhoc n/w)
second i tried creating a adhoc n/w on my xbox-->lapi connects to that n/w but still the test conncetion fails on the xbox

I have checked "Allow users to use this n/w" for my USB modem connection which i use to connect to the internet In Properties-->Sharing
But here it asks to select the n/w connection out of 3 options Wireless conn,Wireless conn2,Local Area Conn.
Sometimes it shows only Wileless Conn and LAN
i tried every possible combination of all these settings but nothing is working.
The internet on my laptop works fine.
I am using Win 7 Home Premium.
I just need to connect my Xbox to my laptop wirelessely and use the internet connection my laptop is using.

i tried some manual settings of ip.subnet n dns server on my xbox n lapi, in this case the xbox connects to the network (while connection test) but does not connects to laptop.
HELP guys

I have an HP Pavilion g6. This laptop used to run fine with no issues. Now no matter what I do I cannot get the computer to connect to any wireless networks. I can still connect via direct LAN eithernet cable. There is only a LAN Network symbol where the Wifi symbol used to be. The wireless key's light remains solid orange and does not change. No message appears when it is pressed. The divice manager only lists the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller and does not list any Ralink driver as it should. I have tried everything. Reseting does nothing.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

A:Laptop wont connect to wifi. Wifi key light is always orange...

Check if you have Wireless adapter under network adapters in Device Manager.

So I bought my laptop, a Pavilion 17-f113dx a little over 3 years ago.  I am swapping the drive for an ssd drive and I thought while I go to all the trouble of disassembling the laptop that I would change out the wifi card with a dual wifi/bluetooth card to improve wireless performance. I understand that there may be a whitelist in the bios of compatabile cards for a laptop this old.  Where would I be able to find that list?  Or is there a solution short of installing a hacked bios?

A:Compatible wifi dual card for 17-f113dx

Hi: There is no whitelist, but there is almost a bigger problem... 1. The notebook requires extensive disassembly to get to the wireless card.  If you can overcome that, then #2 is the killer. 2.  On most of these newer HP notebooks with single band wlan cards, there is only one antenna connected to the card, and there isn't a second one present. A dual band card such as the Intel 7260 N or AC requires 2 antennas to work. It will take even more disassembly including the display panel area to run the 2nd antenna. Do not rely on the picture in the service manual which normally shows two antennas. You will need to physically inspect your notebook's situation before buying a replacement card. If it has two antennas, then you are good to go. I would recommend the Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card for your 3 year old notebook.

hello,i have recently purchased a new y50 70 leptop computer, to replace my old hp pavilion g series leptop, the leptop works fine but im am getting really bad reception from my wifi router, i have a two storey house, my wifi router is located on the first floor and i use my computer on the second floor,so that the router is quite far from the router and has a few walls seperating them. the problem is that my old computer the hp pavilion which is a 5 year old computer is getting a very good reception and is working fine, while the new y50 70 reception is very bad and very unstaible, i have read alot of posts and tried varios netowrk adapter settings and upgrades,i have disabled WMM, switched to only 2.4GHZ bandwith to improve penetration, installed the latest windows 10 network drivers from lenovo's website. but still the reception is very un stable, for one minute i could be getting full reception and after a minute only two strips, and after anoter minute no reception at all. when i am closer to the router the reception works alot better, and dosen't act so un predictably. seems weird to me that my old computer manages just fine while a new computer dose alot worst,i bought this computer to upgrade not downgrad.  some details:my lenovo y50 70:- uses an dual band wireless ac 3160 driver- runs on windows 10 my hp pavlion g series:- uses broadcom  4313 802.11 b/g/n driver- runs on windwos 7 my r... I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?

A:Replace WiFi PCIe card with WiFi/Bluetooth combo card.

Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

A:Unable to find Wifi adapter - Cannot connect to WiFi

Hi @jgkelly2, Welcome to HP Forums! I understand that wireless connection stopped working on your laptop. I want to help. Please run the Component test - Wireless Module to verify if the wireless network adapter is functioning well.HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) If the test failed, the wireless adapter needs to be replaced. Wifi doesn't connect when i move away from wifi router. I have a wifi router installed in my drawing room where i get good browsing speed on phones and laptops. But the problem starts when i take my laptop from drawing room to my bedroom which is not more than 5 mtrs from router. Wifi signal drops to zero on laptop whereas it remains decent on phones. Earlier my laptop used to connect in bedroom as well..This is happening lately. Is there any solution?
