Microsoft ODBC for Oracle - Fail to create

Q: Microsoft ODBC for Oracle - Fail to create

Hi all,
I have a strange problem that occur on lots of our machine,
We deploy a fresh Windows 7 32Bit OS from SCCM.
I created a script that adds a "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" DSN on all of our workstation (part of the task sequence).
I tested the script and its work great, but...
Some users have problem that the DSN is not showing on the "ODBC Data Source Administrator"

Now, when I try to manually add the DSN, the moment I select "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" i get the following error -

I'm googling the web for few days now and cant find a solution...
Please help...

Preferred Solution: Microsoft ODBC for Oracle - Fail to create

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Correct, I based my opinion on the error about the components apparently missing. Here is a Knowledge base article about troubleshooting this very issue:
How To Troubleshoot an ASP-to-Oracle Connectivity Problem
There is a similar thread on the Oracle forums which contains some solutions you can attempt to fix your problem:
Thread: Oracle client and networking components were not found

Do those steps resolve your issue?

We recently switched from Oracle 8 databases to Oracle 11g. I have an existing Access 2002 database with a report that runs off a schema in the Oracle database.

I created a new ODBC entry to link the tables in Access to the new Oracle DB, however I am getting an OBDC failure error when I try to link them in the link table manager.

Is there anything I need to do, download new drivers for example, to get the report to properly link to the tables?

When I search for Oracle ODBC drivers, I can only find drivers for Windows 7. I have seen installation instructions for installing Oracle 11g on Windows 10 (the actual database software) but I can't find anything on installing Oracle 11g ODBC drivers (32 or 64bit) for either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I've also looked on Oracles "Instant Client downloads for Microsoft Windows (x64)", but only can seem to find ODBC drivers that work with Windows 7. What's taking so long? This would seems to be a rather highly requested driver.

Good afternoon Lord Bob,

I have installed the Oracle 10 g drivers, but MS access 2007 x86 can't seem to see the ODBC driver. I tried to set up manually, but got a non administrator Fail answer. I am an administrator.

so what am I missing? I can see and connect using the SysWOW64 odbc driver, but the application can't,

Not sure why you asked me this, and I have little experience with Access and Oracle software.

Have you checked the Access and Orcacle FAQs and forums for this problem?

I have to deploy this front end to about 200 people and don't want to visit each computer to do so. I need to install the drive which i have built a script to do, and i need to create a DSN. How do i create a User DSN or a system DSN with a batch file with a script. I tried to use a File DSN,Which would have made my life easy as i could just have copied that file to all the computers, But it promoted the user to log into the database when a form is open.  I have windows 8.1 and i use wireless keyboard and mouse.  Shall i just unistall that failed updates or it might affect my mouse and keyboard performance? Thank you!

A:microsoft - pointing drawing - microsoft hardware usb mouse download fail.

Hi Alona,
If you receive Windows Update error 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that might be less compatible than one you already have installed.

So, if you did not encounter any performance issue about mouse and keyboard before, you can hide these updates and don't install them again.

I am trying to create a system image of my C Drive (Currently a Samsung 840 EVO SSD) to an external HDD. When I try to do this I get the following error:

"The backup failed.
There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volumes in the backup set.
Additional Information:
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."

Can anyone help me with this problem? I am currently using windows 8.1 using an Inspiron 7720, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU, 8gb ram,

I haven't created a system image in awhile and figured my SSD may be going because when playing games recently I have been getting a stutter every couple of minutes and figured the drive is failing. Or is this caused by something else?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

After seeing the "hard drive error" message fropm Windows and establishing that te hard drive was in fact failing, I attempted to create a system image of the drive to restore it. I freed up some space on my external drive and started the process, but had to leave; I was told that there were error messages, but she couldn't say for certain what they were. I'm thinking write error messages. Anyway I attempted to restore the image but couldn't get the laptop to see the image, or even the drive, so I plugged it into my other laptop and a computer at work. This drive is no longer being recognised anywhere (device manager, disk management). What can I do?

A:Lots of fail; tried to create system image from failing HDD

Am I correct that you are trying to make a backup of a failing or failed hard drive? Personally, I suggest not.

Instead, remove the drive, and put it in a USB or other external enclosure and access the externally mounted bad drive from a healthy PC. Copy off the files that you need to recover (/users... etc.).

I recommend looking at scootersoftware. I like the BeyondCompare utility because it will allow you to copy, compare, and log failed file copies without interruption. I don't like other utilities which error and pause or error and stop when failing to copy a file. BeyondCompare will "keep going" and report the failures for your later inspection. When finished, you have a comparison of source and target directories and will know what failed to copy across.

Just a suggestion.

Hi there
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum as I don't know if this is a System Restore problem or a update problem or a "Windows Update Agent" problem. If it's wrong would someone move it to the correct forum. Thanks
I run Vista Home Premium and I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.
I have always used automatic updates and I have had no problems for about 3 years
There has always been a System Restore Point created automatically before an update
was installed but 2 weeks ago I installed an update called " Windows Update Agent"
All seemed OK until later I went to System Restore and found all the restore points had disappeared except the last one which was a Schedule Check Point for that day.
Since then I can create Restore Points manually ok and Schedule Check Points are ok
but it does not always create restore points before an update. Mostly it does not.

I have run a full scan with MSE and Malwarebytes, both were clean.
I have found if I go to Control Panel Admin Tools Services and go to Volume Shadow Copy I usually find it " stopped" I can " start " it and apply it but when I go back to it later it will be " stopped " again It is set at "Manual" but I think this is
Everything else is working as it should and I could live with it as it is but I'm curious. What caused it ??? Was it the "Windows Update Agent" update install ??
Should I uninstall it ? Would that sol... Read more

Following this, most updates on both computers fail. Downloads from the internet fail. Updating flash on one - failed. downloading .net framework update - failed.

So I'm attempting to help someone fix their laptop. When he has his path as the following, one program he uses works, and the other does not:

If he swaps the first two entries, like so:

Then the program that did not work before works, the program that did work before, works no longer. To clarify, they begin asking for the paths to their databases.

I know that this is because the PATH uses the first folder it finds with an identically named file. What I don't know is how I can either A.) Circumvent that behavior or B.) Reconfigure one of these programs to go directly to the folder in question instead of referring to the PATH variables to locate it's resources. He's running Windows 7 enterprise x64.

Hi there,
A couple weeks back I tried to connect my son's new Ipod touch to the PC. I encountered error after error, so I thought that maybe I needed to be sure my computer had all it's updates. There were 3 critical updates that failed when I tried to install them.

My system is Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service pack 3

My automatic updates is on but the history shows nothing prior to Feb 26 (the day I tried to run updates).

These are the updates that failed to install:
Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB960715)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB961260)
Update for Windows XP (KB967715)

With the same error code: 0x8007F0DA

The only one that has installed in the past couple of weeks is:
Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353)

I've tried to do a couple of suggestions on the support pages but I fear that they don't all apply to me. I don't want to mess it up more than it already is.

I'm not sure if this is relavent or not but, I had installed Windows Onecare months ago. About 2 months ago I had ended up taking my PC to a computer repair shop (I had a broken fan) and they uninstalled Onecare. After that I would frequently receive errors related to Onecare (according to Google - service excutable).

I figure that the first step to getting my computer back on track (and eventually my son's Ipod working) is to have all it's updates installed.

If anyone could walk me through thi... Read more

Hello,I've been at it all afternoon and am fed up with Microsoft's supposed solutions to my problem .I cannot get any updates via the update site. It said it downloaded fine but would not install. After checking around for common problems I finally manually installed WGA and let it verify my software. The update site no longer asks for WGA verification but the problem persists . . . the site shows I need 2 critical updates for IE7 (I was using 6 and upgraded to see if that would fix it but no luck) I try and install these 2 updates and they download fine but always get the message 'updates failed to install' there is no error message or code such as 0000000X0000 whatever those long codes tend to be just message saying the update failed. When I select the updates to install it shows that there are 2 updates ready to download/install for a total of 0KB so I wonder if I am really getting a good Download or not.I don't remember the last time the site worked for me but it used to have the activeX bar at the top of the page pop up reque... Our laptop wanted to reactivate but we tried and tried and now the three-day deadline has ended and Microsoft can't help, I guess. I talked to them and couldn't get anywhere. It wants to download this actshell.htm file for firefox but it won't allow me to do anything with it once it's downloaded. During the three-day period it gave us to reactivate, we had this "limited or no connectivity" problem and we stopped being able to get online since then, even in safemode with networking (we can only log on under safe mode without being forced to log out automatically). It refuses to run a lot of things and when not in safe mode it logs us off when the actshell and reactivation fails. I wouldn't really mind wiping out the whole thing on the computer and reinstalling windows if I knew how, there's nothing on it that any of us need to use. Any thoughts on this? How to force it to reactivate, why it's going wrong, if it's the connectivity issue? When we tried to fix that connectivity issue, it said couldn't renew the IP address. I don't know if the connectivity caused the reactivation not to work or if the reactivation troubles are causing the connectivity trouble. I've never had a computer prompt me to "reactivate" it. I've tried to install Microsoft .Net Framework updates for several weeks now, but all but "Update 5 of 7" fail. I know these updates are important to my security, so does anyone have a solution?

A:Microsoft .NET Framework updates fail to install

.NET Framework is different from other apps. You may or may not need the different versions if they are required by an app. The problem users have is when you uninstall an app that uses .NET Framework, the app leaves .NET Framework behind. To fix this, open Add/Remove Programs and attempt to remove all versions of .NET Framework. If a version can't be removed, leave it alone. That means you need it. After removing all .NET Framework versions, run the cleanup tool at the link below. That should get rid of the updates. You shouldn't need to reinstall the removed versions of .NET Framework.

Hello Cowlag, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Unfortunately, all modern apps (ex: Mail app) that use a Microsoft service require that you be signed in with a Microsoft account to be able use them.

If you like, you could either use a 3rd party email client program (ex: Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc...), or sign in to your email account online in your web browser. This way you could still sign in to Windows 8 with a local account.

Hope this helps,

I've spent hours trying to install the Microsoft Home Use Program on my personal notebook PC at home with no success. My workplace enables me to purchase a licensed copy at a cheaper rate to put on my home computer, whilst I remain employed by them.

I click on the link to http://hup.microsoft.com/.
Select the country "Australia".
Enter my corporate email address.
I enter the program code that work gave me.
I check my work email account and receive the email successfully.
I open the email which says "congratulations, you are eligible to purchase the home use program for $28".
I click on the green "Buy Now" button.

Then, this is where it all goes wrong.... Instead of taking me to the screen that allows me to purchase my license/product key and download the software to my PC, the screen reverts back to the previous one which asks me for my corporate email address and program code! I am going around in circles! There are no error messages.

I have tried turning off the antivirus program and I have tried cleaning and fixing my drives. I have a brand new ASUS notebook PC model PRO50G with stickers on it saying windows vista and intel pentium.

Can anyone please help me to install the home use program??! Thanks:)

1) I'm using Microsoft 2000... I would like to know how do I go about creating a Yes/No prompt.

For example, I created a macro that will delete all records in a table. However, before an end-user run the macro, I would like them to be prompted with a message that says "You are about to delete.... Do you want to continue"? If the end-user was to click "yes", the macro will continue to execute. However, if the end-user was to click "no", I want the macro to be disabled.

2) Another question I have is how do I design queries so end-users cannot save changes to the data (upon them filtering the data).

Specifically, I created queries that end-users can only read the data, and they do not have access to the design view. However, after the end-user filters the data, Microsoft Access prompts them and ask them would they like to save the changes. I want it so they cannot save the filters they created.

Each time I re-start my computer (I am using Windows Vista SP2, for those in the know) and I keep getting the MS .NET Framework error message saying it can't create the ActiveX component, which is necessary to keep Adobe Flash Player operational w/o uninstalling and reinstalling. What do I do?

The error details go away before I can be able to look at them further. This has bugged me to no end.

Please offer the correct solutions!

Thank you,

I work with a charity and we have just received a second-hand pc from a local company. The pc us running Windows 10 Pro.
I want to set up a new user, using a Microsoft account, but there does not seem to be an option to do that.
It came with a user set up as Local Account/ Administrator.

When I follow the normal path to add a Microsoft account, there is no such option available to me. Is this because of the way the current user is set up?

A:Unable to create New User Using Microsoft Account

When setting up the user, you might have missed "Sign in without a Microsoft Account." Go through the process and see if you see it with a sample user. Make sure it's not checked.
