Inspiron 15 7000 gaming has grey vertical lines after opening the lid

Q: Inspiron 15 7000 gaming has grey vertical lines after opening the lid

I just got my laptop 2 days ago and it almost immediately started doing this to me. When I open the lid all I will see on it are gray lines with the mouse being a square shaped slightly off color gray line area. When it does this I have to completely power down my laptop to make it go away. Once I power it back on again it works perfectly fine though.
How do I fix this on my own or do I have to send it back to dell since its a faulty laptop? I really don't want to send it back though so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Send the system back for replacement - the other option is a repair, which will also require sending the system back -- and makes little sense on a brand new system.

I recently purchased an Inspiron Gaming Series Dell laptop and since yesterday when I open it/turn on the power button the screen displays green/white vertical triangle lines (can provide an image). It DOES NOT display the Dell logo at all and doesn't even give me the opportunity to sign in, it just stays stuck on the screen.
This laptop is fairly new, purchased back in August, so it should still be under warranty, but it worries me that it is having issues when it is still fairly new. What could be the cause of it? Any way I can fix it?

I bought an ATI 64Mb videocard Saphire 7000 that worked great for a couple months, then a few weeks ago when I play games (WW2 Fighters/Shogo), after a few minutes the screen is covered with dark vertical lines. Surfing the net and other activities work fine, just the games. I have to restart the computer to get rid of the lines. I have reloaded the driver, reinstalled the card, switched power supplies. My computer is pretty ancient, 350Mhz P2, 10G HD, 392 Mb EEC Sdram 2x AGP win98se Intel chipset. Any ideas???

A:ATI 7000 vertical lines

I have almost an identical card, ATI built, and never experienced what you describe. I'm not a gamer, but I did notice that attempting to do 3D benchmarking on the card, the display would go crazy. I've since upgraded to a newer card.

You might try posting your question on the Rage 3D forum, which focuses on ATI cards of all types. I'm fairly certain someone there might be able to help you out.

Good luck.

1) A couple of months ago 3 vertical lines have appeared on left of laptop screen.  Then the last couple of weeks all of a sudden the entire screen turns into a grey color with vertical lines.  Happened three times already and don't know what to do.  Not too computer saavy (I'm a senior) and will bring it in for repair but I don;t want to get cheated and want to be at least knowledgeable on what it might be.  Read something about an inverter (don't know what this means).  When this happens I obviously turn off the pc wait a couple of minutes and turn it back on.  Just do not know what is causing this. Perhaps I need to change the screen, is this costly? 2) Also I'm on a wireless network and the pages sometimes have a delay in loading or it says it's not connected.  Have called my provider and they do not know what the problem is.  Fox six mos their service worked fine, all of a sudden it doesn't and of course they blame my pc.  Would anyone know why this would happen intermittently ? Thanks in advance. Appreciate all of your help..........

I replaced the screen on my laptop with a new one. I watched how-to videos so am positive I did it correctly. However, the new screen displays a grey screen with lines. Only once, upon repeated off/on tries did it displayed correctly but once I tilted the screen it went back to lines.

I've Googled and done these tests:
1. Re-checked my screen connections 3X. There is only one 40-pin connector to the screen. It doesn't look to be damaged. Note my old screen was cracked and did not display anything so switching back to test will not help. Also, I am positive it is the correct screen for my laptop.
2. Installed Dell System Detect but when I clicked on icon in task tray, nothing happens. But when I click on Dell Support, it recognizes my laptop.
3. Ran Dell self-diagnosis and it only showed SMART Short Self Test - Failed WHD16-28O. Every other test passed. From what I read, that is a drive issue and not screen display related.
4. Laptop LCD Built-in Self Test (pressing D key & power button and Pre-Boost System Assessment). I could not try either because the laptop screen does not display.
5. If I press lightly in the right bottom corner of the screen, I can make the lines config to other lines. The screen will not display but it does change the non-configuration. Pressing on the edge of any other part of the screen will not make this happen.

One other thing you can try:  hold the D key through powerup.  Does that lead to good, solid-colored screen images from the built-in self test?  If it does, it sounds like a damaged mainboard.  If it shows the same fault as you've shown here, it's a  bad screen.

I have a dell inspiron 15r-5537 laptop and it has developed vertical lines of pixels on the center-left of the screen. The color of the pixels seems to depend on the color being displayed behind them. see the link below for more info on what the lines look like. https://imgur.com/a/HREN8
anyway, i have reinstalled the video drivers so i do not think that is the problem, but they also do not seem to be dead pixels because they change colors sometimes. If anyone could help me fix this problem it would be great. thanks.

A:Inspiron 15R-5537 vertical lines on screen

Hi Mykalsson,
There seems to be problem with the LCD screen on your computer to confirm we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

Turn of the computer.
Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the vertical or horizontal lines are appearing on the screen.

If you see the lines appearing on the screen while the LCD bist is running you will have to replace the LCD.
Also, connect the laptop to an external monitor or display to check if issue reoccurs.

I open and close the lid a lot and since a few minutes my laptop have a pink vertical lines on the whole display and they appear everywhere. On the start sceen, bios, windows etc. Also when I change the position of the lid most of the lines dissapear for a while. I have run the lcd bist test and the lines are not shown there. Does this means that the problem is in the lcd cable? Could it be the lcd display itself or the video? I am also using an external monitor and it working fine there.
Thank you.

It could very well be the wiring harness -- andd that would be the first thing to replace.  If you need a part reference, please supply the complete system model information (i.e., Inspiron 5521, etc. - NOT just Inspiron 15).

Good afternoon. So I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7567) for my wife on July 13 and it was delivered on July 21st without any issues. The purpose for the laptop is more work and school since my wife is not a gamer, but I wanted to get her the best possible specs for the long term. All drivers on the laptop are from the Dell site and the laptop shipped with Windows 10 Pro. On the night I received it, my wife decided to watch some Netflix while I slept and the next morning, she sent me the attached screen shots. According to her, the screen just turned that way after having watched about 30 minutes of full screen material. She also stated that it flickered and that Windows was for a short while somewhat unresponsive (she couldn't restart the system). The following day I turned on the laptop without any screen issues. I did research and noticed a lot of driver issues with the Nvidia GeForce 1050 Ti GPU were being posted, but most specified BSOD issues with the Nvidia drivers not the Dell drivers. Nevertheless, I removed the Dell drivers and clean installed them again. Afterward, I did a barrage of tests on the laptop to see if the problem was hardware or software related. These are some of the tests I ran:
- Dell BIST tests
- AIDA64 Extreme Stability and Monitor Diagnostics tests
- Futuremark 3DMark SkyDiving Benchmark and Stress Test
None of the tests could replicate any issues with the screen. No artifacts whatsoever.
That same night the issue came up again, while wat... Read more

I got back from vacation and plugged my laptop in to work on pictures when some vertical lines and a bunch of horizontal squiggly lines popped up.  I can't figure out what has caused them.
I've run CCleaner & Super Anti-virus to ensure it's not malware.
I've run the Dell PC Diagnostic full test (which said their was an error and could not provide the results).  So I ran individual tests on video card, video stress test, monitor, and they all came fine.
I am now going to reboot in safe mode and see if I can run off a motherboard video system & see if it's the video card.
I don't really have any idea what I'm doing so any help would be great!

Hi All,
I have Inspiron 5558 Signature Edition Laptop which i bought in 2015 November  . From Past few months , i see Purple Vertical Lines and Display Flickers a lot  . I ran Dell Diagnostic test and it passed Display Test ..Also i downloaded all latest  Display Drivers ...Still issue continues
Can someone  please suggest if there is a potential need to replace the Display Panel ??

A:Inspiron 5558 Signature Edition - Purple Vertical Lines and display Flicker

Attach an external monitor - if the fault doesn't show, the first thing to check/replace is the wiring harness that runs between the mainboard and back of the display panel.  If that doesn't help, replace the display.
If the same fault does show on an external screen, you're likely facing a bad mainboard.

Dear all,
Yesterday I received the new Inspirion 7000 gaming (7567). As it only has 256gb in the m.2 ssd slot I wanted to add an extra SSD in the HDD area. I already tried changing configuring the disks from RAID to AHCI but this doesn't work.
Are there any known compatibility issues between Dell and some SSD's manufacturers or are there any other solutions?

Have just bought a new Inspiron 15 Gaming and noticed that the battery doesn't seem to last nearly as long as the reviews I read. I haven't done a formal check but seem to get only around 4 hours of use, and not particularly hard use (I don't use it for gaming or much in the way of graphics) as it's for business.
Is there any way of checking whether the battery is actually the battery that the configuation says it is? This should be a 451-BBPZ : 74 WHr, 6-Cell Battery (Integrated). I would expect a 74 WHr battery to last a full working day, especially when new. I guess I could take off the bottom cover to check but wondered if there was some other way. There didn't seem to be anything in the BIOS that identifies the battery.
I should add that I'm running Linux.

A:Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming - correct battery?

Your power management settings should list the battery type - there's only one for this model.  And 4-5 hours is about all  you'll ever get from a gaming system like this - especially if it has an i7 CPU and/or a 4K screen.
Even the 97 WHr battery in the XPS 9560 doesn't do much more than 6 hr. with integrated video and a 1080p screen.
If you're looking for all-day battery run, get a system with the smallest, lowest resolution screen you can live with -- and an i3 or Celeron CPU.

I have a problem with my display adapter Intel driver version It is causing a problem of vertical lines on the screen when waking up from sleep, the only option is to reboot the machine.
I previously solved this problem by rolling back to the driver in the device manager to the previous version This fixed the issue until a recent update on 8th November when my driver was updated again.
Now when I enter the device manager the option to Roll Back Driver option is greyed out.
I've tried searching for a download of the old driver but can't find one.
Can anyone help with this problem?
And then once I've fixed it is there a way to stop the driver updating itself again?

A:Inspiron 3650 back from sleep issue - vertical lines on screen - rollback Intel driver problem

Assuming you are running Windows 10? With Windows 10, it is possible to stop it from auto updating drivers. Read this. You should download and save the Intel driver to its own folder on the C: drive in case you need to reinstall it again.I do not use sleep or hibernate modes on any of my computers (laptops or desktops). The only powersave option I use is the setting to turn the monitor off after 5 minutes. At the end of the work day, I save my data and close all running applications. I then turn the computers off.

A:Windows Downgrade for Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming 7567

It's not an option - with the seventh generation CPU you have, only Windows 10 is supported - there is no support for Windows 7 on this model.
If you need Windows 7, you'll need to return the system and order a different model with a Skylake (6th generation) CPU -- the last one with pre-Windows 10 support.  Some Latitude models still offer 6th generation CPUs.

I received a Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop for Christmas and so far whenever I attempt to download any program like Steam, Blizzard Battle Net or Origin the screen will freeze and display this. I've called tech support four different times to fix this problem and seemingly we've done everything but nothing will stop the screen from appearing. I've checked the hardware with F12 and D buttons many times, factory restarted the system, and installed BIOS updates, Intel Graphic updates and NVIDIA updates as well as run tests for both. While running one of the tests for the video graphics, the laptop also gave me a blue error screen which was the cherry on top of all of this. I was also directed to a call with software home support with dell which they offered to look at it for a fee of $120 which I cannot pay. Is there anything I can do before I have to just return the system?

I have a new Dell Laptop, the "New Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming", specifically the 7567 variant.  Before I start, just to let you know my technical experience, I work in the IT field, and have extensive knowledge of building computers, how drivers work, etc, just to give you an idea of my experience.
I have a couple of problems with video output on the HDMI channel.  The problems I'm having are when I use the HDMI port with my TV.  My TV is a Vizio M422i-B1, and using up-to-date cabling.  I don't have any problems using the laptop with it's built-in panel, and this laptop works perfectly when used in that way. I though will be using this laptop primarily attached to an HDMI port to my TV, and I'd like to know if changes could be made somewhere on the Laptop in a BIOS or utility I'm missing, or if I may have come up with some feature updates in future BIOS revisions - if possible.
The first problem is there is no video signal sent out on the HDMI port during boot and in the BIOS screens. When Windows starts, video signal is sent and everything appears to be working normally.  This is a problem if I want to access the BIOS, or boot to Safe Mode, or do something in the preboot environment such as booting from a USB drive. I don't see anything in the BIOS or anywhere else that would allow me to enable sending video through the HDMI port in this boot phase.
This leads me to the other problem I'm having.  After Wi... Read more

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop yesterday, and it's all great, except for one thing that kept me up for hours last night without getting very far. In short, Realtek High Definition Audio does not seem to be available or even compatible with the system.
The Problem
Realtek High Definition Audio and all of its features are missing from my laptop, in particular:

Realtek HD Audio Manager is not present on my system.
The tab for enhancements for recording devices (containing noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellation) is missing.

What I have tried

Installing audio drivers from Dell's website. I think this may have changed the name of the sound controller under Device Manager from High Definition Audio Device to Realtek Audio, but other than that nothing changed. This is in spite of the fact that the installer states that it is a Realtek High Definition Audio driver.
Updating the audio drivers via device manager. Device manager states that the drivers are up to date.
Installing audio drivers from Realtek's website. Attempting to do this left the installer in an endless loop, stating that it was trying to uninstall the current drivers, restarting, and then simply repeating the same process. It seems that the previous drivers simply 'respawn' as soon as the system restarted. So then I tried:
Uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling using the installer on Realtek's website. I tried using both Device Manager and Control Panel's ... Read more

Hi, I had bought my laptop in late September of 2016 and am just outside of my warranty period.  I use this laptop for school work (involves some autocad and waveforms 2017 work).  Recently the display has started flashing black with it being more off than on.  This makes the laptop unusable for me as I now have to connect it to an external monitor to use it.  With the desktop extended or cloned the external monitor works fine through HDMI and the laptop screen flashes and pulses.  Some times the screen works fine for a minute and then will go back to flashing.  The first couple of times it happened was while in fullscreen mode watching youtube.  I would close chrome and it would start working normally.  This put me down a software path.
I have tried updating both the intel video drivers and the Nvidia drivers.  My current drivers are Nvidia: and Intel:  I recently also updated my BIOS drivers to 1.2.4 to try to solve this issue.  No adjustments I have made in software has made it better and it seems to be getting worse with time.  The screen on this one is the 4k touchscreen.  I mostly keep it in 1080p though due to software compatibility issues. Even with the screen flashing the touchscreen still functions normally and tracks at all corners.  I am hoping this is not a hardware issue as I will be extremely disappointed if that is the case.

Open the base cover to see what's installed - it could be an M.2 SSD (card drive) in which case the system will take a 2.5" hard drive.
It could equally well be a 2.5" SSD - in which case the additional drive would need to be an M.2 SSD (the system has space for just one 2.5" drive).

I bought the new Inspiron 15 7000 series a few weeks ago. Touch-screen, light, SSD - worked really well.
However, after a few weeks light usage I picked up the closed laptop. I heard a crack and, upon opening the lid, noticed a hairline crack across the top of the screen. This is exactly under the area of the laptop I used to pick it, roughly where the touch-pad would be if it were open - but it was closed.
There is a lot of flex on the rear of the screen. It's a plastic construction but is very thin, unlike all the other Dell laptops I have bought over the last 15 years. There is also a small gap of a couple of millimetres between the screen and the keyboard when the laptop is closed. The combination of a lack of protection on the rear of the screen, allied to the gap, combined to transfer sufficient force from just picking up the laptop to cause the crack.
I immediately messaged Dell. I was asked to send photo's of the crack, which I did. I was then told that, don't worry, Dell will take care of it and my laptop needs to be sent back for repair.
It was picked up and queued for about a week or so before it was looked at. The Anovo tracking said there was an issue. I contacted Dell, who told me on 2 separate occasions - in writing -  that they had authorised the repair and it should be back with me soon. I even had an unsolicited telephone call from Dell, telling me the laptop was fully fixed.
Imagine my confusion when, upon opening the laptop today, I discov... Read more

A:Inspiron 15 7000 Screen Cracks Upon Opening

I have an Inspiron as well  and its lid recently broke.  Now I have had it for a few years but all I did was open it and the left had side broke. I did not handle my labtop any differently when I open it.  I can no longer close the lid in fear that the break will grow.  It in great condition and there is no reason I need a new one except for the lid.  TORN!

Dear Readers,
I've been having some trouble with my newly bought laptop. I have been using it for about 2 months (daily) and recently a problem has occurred. Namely, when my laptop goes in standby mode, and I turn it on, the screen shows colored/grey stripes.
I have already looked if it did the same when in the BIOS, this showed nothing strange. Also, when I attached my laptop to another screen during the occurring problem, it showed the normal screen on the external screen and I could execute everything.
I would appreciate a little help with this problem. Please let me know if you have any solution in mind.

After the last automatic driver update the screen gets gray fuzzy after waking from sleep. Other people are also getting the same problem (see this forum). The problem seems to be happening only with this laptop in particular and, therefore, I ask Dell for help.
Please don't tell me to rollback the driver and edit the registry to stop automatic updates.

This morning, I was working at my job and opened my computer to a patterned green screen.  I moved my mouse around and i could see a box where i was moving my mouse.  so I restarted my laptop by holding down the power button and it worked fine after that.  Then I closed the lid and it happened the next time I opened the lid.  So i tested it.  When I closed the lid and opened it again, the light on the power button went off.  When i clicked it, the screen was a patterned green again.  Here is a picture of the screen.

Recently whenever i attempt to play a game on my laptop (Inspiron 15-7000 7559) it powers off, just like that, instantly (not rebooting). It depends on the game/settings how long it takes but usually around a few minutes and it powers off to black, without a blue screen or whatever notification.
First thing i did was testing different drivers for the gpu, with no result.

So i started searching the internet ofcourse and i found everyone saying it's due to overheating. I have cleaned the laptop of dust, but there really wasn't that much. Then i reapplied thermal paste (arctic silver 5), it lowered temperatures a bit but not drastically (I have no warranty left so it's no problem opening it).
Temperatures of my cpu never go above 89 degrees C. gpu around 65 while gaming. Seems pretty normal to me.
i also reinstalled the bios with the original dell driver, same with the gpu driver. still no result.
The event log wasn't really that helpfull because it never gave any reasons, only that the shutdown was unexpected.
I also used MiniToolBox and that gave me a few errors with more info, if necessary i can post those here as well.
i also tried a full reinstallation of windows with no result.
so yeah i'm desperate by now.

p.s. Minecraft seems to run fine, even on all settings maxxed through the roof.

I am just about to make a purchase on the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (7567). I would like to use this with external monitors via the HDMI port (and leave the laptop CLOSED). I have seen that some people have experienced issues with this:
-lag/stuttering on the external monitor
-black screen on the external monitor
-video drivers crashing

Has anyone else hooked up external monitors via the HDMI port? Have you experienced these types of issues?

It would inform my decision to buy or not.

Thank you,

Hello -
I have an Inspiron 7567.  Been reading the forums to educate myself of any quirks or design considerations for this laptop as it's a bit different than the SATA-only laptops I've worked with in the past.
This particular model has a Toshiba m.2 512GB NVMe (PCIe-x4) SSD.  Bios is configured for AHCI mode, not RAID.Running Windows 10 1703NVMe driver is presently Toshiba's RD400 driver v1.2.126.843.AHCI driver is presently Intel's iaStorA (AHCI) driver v15.2.0.1020.
That said, there's an empty standard 2.5" SATA slot in the laptop I want to take advantage of since m.2 + HDD was not a configuration option at purchase.  Which is fine, I have several spare HDDs to choose from.

If I install a SSD in the SATA slot, the drive is not recognized, intel's utility shows "Internal Empty Port 1"
If I install a HDD in the SATA slow, the drive is recognized properly and is useable

Tried an Intel SSD Pro 2500 (360GB) from a Dell Precision T1700, not detected in BIOS or Windows
Tried a Crucial M500 SSD (250GB) from a retail box, not detected in BIOS or Windows
Tried a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (500GB) from a retail box, detected and working properly
Updated Intel iaStorA drivers from A06 to A07, no change in behavior, SSDs are not recognized
Updated BIOS from 1.0.6 to 1.1.0, same results, SSDs are not recognized

Can anyone shine light on why this might be the case?  I've neve... Read more

A:Inspiron 7000 Gaming (7567) - Problem adding 2nd hard drive

On the Seagate that is working in the BIOS, do you know what it's formatted as? That's the only thing I can think of... Also, on the Crucial drive was it ever formatted or fresh too? Sorry on the silly questions, but this is pretty interesting since the Seagate is working.. This is out of scope, but I will see if I can find anything that helps. Best regards,Brad
