T430s will not start with battery in

Q: T430s will not start with battery in

I have a T430 that will not boot when the battery is in the laptop. I thought this was a battery issue so I bought a replacement from Amazon and the problem went away for about 3 months. Now the issue is back so I ended up buying a new battery directly from Lenovo just to make sure I was getting a good battery. Last night I put the brand new battery in the laptop and again it will not boot with the battery in. To be clear. The laptop works fine when it is either docked or plugged in with the battery not installed. The problem is only when the battery is in the laptop. It blinks once and then shuts right back down. I know the battery is good since I bought the brand new one directly from Lenovo. Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've recently purchased a used Lenovo T430s. The battery appears to be dead, so I purchased an EBK battery from Amazon. The EBK battery appears to work fine as long as the charger is not plugged in. Shortly after the charger is plugged in the system reboots. I've read that Lenovo laptops will not charge a 3rd party battery. Is this correct? At this point in time I can't be sure that the charging system in the laptop is functioning correctly. Is there a utility that will test the laptops charging system? Thank you,Alan

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

Hi and welcome, moreryanIs the battery Lenovo genuine, has Lenovo FRU p/n?Have you get it from the Lenovo related store?Could you make a snapshot of the battery surface labels with quality enough to recognize labels, symbols? As you can't publish images here, in the post yet, provide an external link. Also, as your OS is win7 and I hope Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, what are the values of the second half of the battery parameters (manufacturer name and followed) PM shows in the Battery tab? Make a snapshot as well.Answers and images are needed to understand whether the battery is faked since the battery for T430 should have HW authentication.

When I use the battery as the power of my laptop, it always shutdown abnormally before the battery reach the ?critical low battery alarm?.For example, I set the power manager to sleep when the battery lower than 10%. However, it will out of power when the battery reaches 12-13%. It wasn?t a normal shut down, it suddenly goes down without any alarm. It seems that the power been cut down by someone. My laptop is a new thinkpad T430s, it seems something wrong with the battery. I try to Perform Reset the battery, but it still not work.

I have a thinkpad t430s and I bought a new supposedly oem lenovo 43 ultrabay battery. When I insert the battery it is recognized that a battery was plugged in but it stays at 0%. I've tried all different combinations of reinserting it before and after reboots turning on and off the ultrabay in the bios. The CD / DVD ultrabay drive works fine, although since the connectors inside are totaly different I doubt that is relevant info. What is the best way for me to figure out if the problem is this battery or the laptop? Or could it be a software issue... any help would be hugely appreciated. One of the main reasons I acquired this laptop was the use of the ultrabay batteries. Thanks

Hi,

I left my laptop sitting open and running for a few seconds while I ran outside for something and I came back and the screen was black. It wasn't asleep, it was just black and still running. I restarted and it won't do a normal boot. When you first turn it on the "Press Enter to Interrupt Normal Startup" screen will come up, and if you do so or not, it'll take you to a menu with all of these options. I have no idea what's going on, can someone please help. It's a ThinkPad T430s

Hello, I have replaced screen on my T430s (used from T420s, because they are similar), before fully assembling (all the bottom screws), I tried to boot on battery and everything worked fine. After I finished assembling it, I couldn?t start my computer on battery, only with AC adapter. Battery is genuine (Panasonic came with T430s), I can charge or discharge it, tried battery gauge reset, tried to reset bios (take out CMOS battery), updated BIOS, nothing helps, by the way works with my T420s just fine (tried T420s battery on T430s same, nothing). Removing AC adapter causes laptop to shut off immediately.Am I missing something or it is a fault in mainboard?   Thanks in advance for any suggestions

A:T430s - Won't Start

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but I think it is most likely the main (7-amp??) fuse by the battery connector, which is similar to the fuse for AC input.  The main battery fuse is separate from the smaller charging fuse.

Ever since yesterday I've had this problem, I tried several solutions and none of them worked. Basically the problem is: The laptop only works on battery now. When the battery is at 0% the laptop turns off even if the AC is plugged in. To make matters worse, when the laptop is on I get this message "plugged, not charging". So basically the AC no longer works by itself and only charges the battery when the laptop is off. Here is what I tried so far:- Changing the settings on the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool- Uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool - Taking off the battery and AC, pushing the power button for 30 seconds, putting them back in and turning on the laptop.- Starting the laptop on safe mode- Praying to God None of these things worked. Somebody help.

Hello, Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad T470 UltrabookType: 20HD I usually do not have my laptop's battery installed when it is plugged with the AC adapter as I use it mainly at home. But today, while I was out, I inserted it (while the laptop was off) and I received the following error message: "Battery 2: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." I've had this laptop for only a year, and everything is up to date. I only take out and put in the battery when the laptop is turned off. According to the battery percentage, it's stuck at 49% and says it's not charging. 49% Not ChargingBattery 1: 100% and fully chargedBattery 2: 0% and not charging I tried checking the battery in Lenovo Vantage, but it just keeps showing the loading animation, but with no info. Does this really mean the battery needs to be replaced (already)? Could it be a software issue? Thanks.

Good Evening, I purchased a Lenovo Z50-70 a year and five months ago, It has been running perfectly fine until yesterday evening. I had left it unattended for approximately 3 hours plugged in charging, when I returned I was using it for around 15 mins and then I noticed that the battery was low (even tho it was 5% battery it was saying 2 mins to fully charge), it then turned off and refused to restart until I unplugged the AC but when I plugged the AC in once it had started it just turned off. I tried the power button solution that was posted (press 10 times in 30 seconds) and restarted the Laptop, it started fine and I plugged the AC in and it stayed on but the battery led was flashing orange (Still would not charge) and then the battery ran out and the Laptop turned off and I can't get it to work now. I have tried to use the laptop with just the AC but it will not work. I have ordered a new battery hopefully that will work but I am wondering if it should aleast work on just the AC for the moment.

I can't start my ThinkPad W540 without connecting to AC power (not always, but most of the time). When I press power bottom nothing happens even the battery is fully charged. As soon as I plug the laptop on to AC power, the power bottom works, and I can unplug the AC power immediately after it starts up. I believe this problem started after upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, however, could it be a hardware issue?

my compaq presario 1688 laptop suddenly won't start - nevermind boot - if the battery pack is not installed. also, i'm not sure if it's related, but my battery charge goes down when even when the laptop is plugged into the wall outlet. it is a Li-Ion battery. the battery meter says "charging xx%" and shows the "i'm plugged into the wall" icon, but the battery life still drains. is this a "feature" of Li-Ion batteries to keep themselves fresh or something?

about a week ago, i posted here because i soldered the internal power connector back on to the motherboard and the laptop would not boot but just made this kind of whirring noise right where the "laptop is on" LED is located. the LED flashed and whirred. that was it. then i put in the battery and it booted ok.

when i first got the laptop, i did not need to have the battery inserted to boot. as a matter of fact, i did not even HAVE a battery. i did notice however, that the battery life drained when plugged in and supposedly charging - even before i started my soldering adventure.

any ideas?

A:laptop won't start without battery installed...

Ummm, well I can tell you the battery is not supposed to drain on its own. Either the battery is going, or there is something wrong with the laptop itself. The only time the batter drains itself is when one is re-calibrating the battery (which I don't think has been put on too many laptops..i just got lucky). I would ask compaq. I'm assuming the laptop is out of warranty, so they can't do too much for you.

EDIT: By the way, the laptop is supposed to start/turn on whether or not the battery is in or not. That confuses me right there !!

I purchased a Flex 15D-20334 that the previous owner had complained that it would not start or sometimes shut itself down. The prior owner did remove the hard drive in which I replaced and installed Windows 10 Pro. After testing it I found it would run perfectly and experienced no unexpected shut downs. What I did find that the laptop would not start with the charge cable plugged in. Removing the charge cable the laptop starts normally. If I plug in before Windows starts the laptop immediately stops the boot process and shuts down. Could this be a weak power component in the motherboard? I have another Flex-15 I parted out that had a bad motherboard that I ordered an Intel board to resurrect it. Should the Flex 15D prove to have a bad motherboard could this Intel board work in the one with the AMD processor? The best solution is to find the issue with the AMD board (Flex 15D) and get it going. Does anyone know why this laptop not start with the charge cable plugged in?  Second question. Hello everyone, I've been using my Lenovo U31-70 for a few months now with no issues until a week ago when attempting to start up the computer I encountered problems. At first, it took a few minutes for the system to start up and then that even stopped working, reaching a point where the power button is on, but the screen stays black and no start-up process is in effect.  I've read about issues like that and eventually followed a guide by someone who said it might be related to the battery. I removed the internal battery - and to my surprise - the computer works fine (a bit slower now from direct current), no issues on start-up.  What could I do now? the battery L14M2P24 is nowhere to be found, not even with the official labs. Is there any solution or the battery is dead and I'll need to send it abroad? Regards and thank you,

 Hi hornedz ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

To best check on the battery performance you may run powercfg /batteryreport  elevated cmd .

I was also thinking of probable power relation on wake up under battery option that may also exhibit same symptom wherein if the pc is on this setting waking up is affected.
You can initially set power options to high performance first.
Under advance option to disable hybrid sleep.
Disable fast start up. and clean boot to eliminate software related causes.

When you removed the battery it ,ay be the you were at the same time ended some processes causing the delay in wake/ start up. The settings above are changeable that is worth a try.

You can also try checking battery performance using Energy Manager.
Uninstall to test and re install from the support site.
Yoou may also check the part availability thru Lenovo Encompass in your location .

Test the performance with such changes and update us how it goes.

A:U31-70 Doesn't start up & Battery issues

Hi Alexand,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Method 1.
I had issue where it did not charge at all. Disabled the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driver. Shutdown the pc and unplugged it overnight. Switched it on. Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery still disabled. Enabled it and restarted. Now it?s charging. Try that?

Method 2.
You may shut down the computer completely, unplug the power cable, remove the battery and let it rest for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, put the battery in its place, plug in the power cord and restart the computer to check if the issue persists.

Method 3.
A simple way to check the integrity of the battery is to remove it entirely and plug in the power cable to the laptop. If the laptop powers on properly, the problem is likely with the battery.

A non-charging battery can sometimes be caused by an overheating laptop. If the laptop is charging for a very long time then the battery becomes quite hot. As the temperature rises, the battery sensor misfires, telling the system that the battery is either fully charged or missing completely, causing the charging problems. This problem becomes far more likely when using the laptop on the couch or in bed, with a blanket or pillow covering the cooling vents. Let the system cool down and take the time to make sure that the air vents are clean and unobstructed.

I hope the above information helps.
Regards,
Shashi

Hi Nordic74,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding which to buy G50-80 or T430s
Even mine preference will be T430s as it is a business class segment with better battery backup, screen resolution & lot other options. In G50-80 there is an option of AMD discrete Graphics and 15.6" screen but resolution is 1366 x 768 only.
T430s has security option aswell & lot of option for upgrade which is missing in G50-80 IMO.

I hope the above information helped you.

After I changed the battery and started up the computer, I got a message that Windows couldn't start and it gave me the option to try again, normally or in safe mode, etc.  It also said, if it wasn't the first time it happened to use my recovery disk and use it to repair windows.  If I try to start windows normally, the computer restarts and then the same message comes up.  If I try safe mode, it shows the computer loading up the windows components, but then also restarts and goes back to the same error screen.

When I use my recovery disk to try and repair it, it starts loading up the disk and when it gets to 100%, I get the dreaded blue screen.  This is before I have any opportunity to make any selections or anything.

I've read about changing some Sata RAID setting after a google search, but I haven't been able to find that in my BIOS.

Anyone have any idea?

My Armada M700 notebook won't start on battery power. I have tried three different good batteries and get the same result. It boots fine off of AC power. It will not start off of AC power if a battery is installed, however.

Any qualified help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Send it for repair, this is not a problem we can solve here I suspect.

My HP celeron laptop, about 15 months old, is suddenly unable to start unless plugged into the mains.

When it is, it says the battery is 96% chared with 11 hrs of unfeasible battery life. Once then disconnected, it still runs, though not sure how long for.

Shut down, and the battery charging light blinks frequently, but the laptop won't start at all.

What do hyou think has happened? If the battery has gone I think this is poor for a HP machine and will try to get them/and/or the vendor to replce even though what was a 12m warranty has expired.

I have a P50.  Even though the battery is fully charged when I turn it off when I go to use the laptop a few days later, it is completely dead.  Any one have any suggestions? Thanks!

The lap top has been working with no issues since purchase, but last week it was being used and the battery was completely drained and it switched off. As it was not needed at that point, it was left until the following morning. When it was plugged in, it woudl not start. So we left it charging and still nothing. When you push the start button the keyboard lights up for a few seconds and then goes off and that is it. I have read through numerous other similiar issues and have tried all of the following with no success: 1. Pushed and held power button for times ranging from 20 seconds to 1 minute2. Tried reset button3. Opened up back and pulled plug out of battery, then tried various combinations of pushing power for extended periods, with no power cable etc, and then plugging back in again So now at a bit of a loss as tried everything I can read on line with people suggest, the only other but I have read is about removing RAM, but not sure where they, I think below the battery. So not sure if I need to completely remove the battery etc, but wanted to see if anyone else had any better / easier ideas before I try that. Thanks for any help and guidance Model number - Lenovo Yoga 2 13, Model name 20344
