Switch ThinkPad Yoga Clickpad with new TrackPad

Q: Switch ThinkPad Yoga Clickpad with new TrackPad

Hi everyoneThe new ThinkPad Yoga 12 seems to have the same dimensions as the original ThinkPad Yoga. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the new TrackPad with the buttons from the TPY 12 in the old model? Or will there be hardware/driver problems?I'm sure many have the same question for their machines, for example the T440, how about those? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, On my 1st gen Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM000VUS) running Windows 10 (64-bit) I, like many other people here, hated the "new" clickpad compared to the classic trackpad. I've followed this thread pretty carefully: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Switch-ThinkPad-Yoga-Clickpad-with-new-... And decided to do it for myself. Hardware-wise, switching it out was a breeze. But since that thread really deals with the Yoga 11, the driver modifications haven't worked for me. I was able to get the classic clickpad to work (buttons and all) using the generic Synaptics driver pack available on their site, but in doing so it ruins the Lenovo tweaks, specifically the conversion to tablet mode. When I go into tablet mode, it will no longer automatically switch into tablet mode, rotate in tablet mode (after manually turning it on), or the biggest problem, disable the trackpad when in tablet mode. Has anyone been able to sucessfully make this switch or could someone help me try to make this work the way it should? I would really appreciate it!

Hi. I have a TP Yoga 14 - 20DM008UUS. It came originally with the "Touchpad with clickable buttons" and all works correctly with you switch to tablet mode, tent mode, etc.  But mine does not uses a Synaptics touchpad, it is an ALPs one.  Can you share the FRU of the new Touchpad (Keyboard?) you installed on you TP 14 (1st gen) ? Did you check other model "Maintenance manual" to find the FRU? It can be interesting if you can try the drivers of the touchpad of the machine model from where you took the FRU. This is a very interesting MOD for your TP 14, it can be nice if you can also post pictures of you work !! Regards

Hello everybody, before I get pointed to every other thread about varying similar issues, I would like to say that I have literally read and tried all the options in both https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-14-1st-gen-Clickpad-Trackpad-Repla...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Switch-ThinkPad-Yoga-Clickpad-with-new-...I recently just switched out the clickpad for the trackpad on my yoga 14, gen1. I am currently having the issue of the mouse properties not even showing a synaptics tab. There are no options for any multitouch for the touchpart of the pad, my physical buttons on the pad works fine though. I noticed that the driver is seen as synaptics pointing device? Shouldn't it be synaptics touchpad? Anyways I have no access/options for the multitouch. Any ideas? I'm willing to try anything at this point. I don't want to do a clean reinstall of windows 10 yet, busy with tons of work. Thanks

Simultaniously my keyboard backlight, touchpoint and trackpad stopped working. They do not appear in device manager and reinstalling drivers did nothing. On Lenovos advice, I purchased replacement palmrest, trackpad, keyboard etc and fitted them successfully but this has made no difference. Could it be a power management issue?  Hi, I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12 2nd gen with these specs: -Processor: Intel core i5-5300U-Ram: 8GB-Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD (installed by myself) and SanDisk 16GB PCIe M.2-Screen: Full HD 10 point multi-touch with Wacom digitizer-BIOS: JEET78WW (1.27) The trackpad and trackpoint on this laptop has stopped working the second time and with that, the CPU fan has halted as well, with the backlit function of the keyboard non-working as well. The fan is really important because my heavy-duty use of this machine makes it really hot real quick. My laptop is pretty much useless without it and want a solution for it. I did try to update my BIOS for this because on some forums, this was an issue fixed by updating their BIOS. The system does not recognize the Synaptics trackpad and trackpoint (yes the TRACKPOINT is not working as well) and I have tried downloading the drivers of the trackpad, but to no luck the system did not recognize the trackpad. It seems as if there is a faulty connection physically, but I could not figure it out. The first time it happened, I sent it back for an in Depot Service, but this time around, I am out of warranty and when I asked a ThinkPad Certified Technician, he recommended me to simply buy a new machine rather than getting it serviced because it would cost me more than half as much of the original price of my laptop. I really like this laptop and don't want to change it, but if I have to, the 8th generation Intel pro... Still not qorking under linux too ( obviously a HW probelm). I like this device alot but I think it wont be able to perform in summer because of the fan issue. Since installing Windows Updates on Jan 2, 2018 my TPYoga 12 has been giving BSOD's when waking from sleep. The message is "Attempted switch from dpc". It happens at least once a day now. Sometimes the next boot is successful, and sometimes it happens a second time after the system tries to reboot which then shows a diagnostic screen. Choosing to boot as normal from that diagnostic screen then does boot successfully. This is on a system running Win10 Pro V1709 build 16299.192.  I have seen one other user with a TPY12 report this recently (see post in german). Looking at many posts regarding this specific message over the years it seems to be related to a driver issue. Given the rather intense troubleshooting instructions for issues like these I'm hoping someone here has found a fix.  Below a screencap of my deteriorated system reliability.

Some more searching led me to this post stating that it's related to the Synaptics touchpad driver. Windows did install four Synaptics items the day before things went bad. I have uninstalled the touchpad driver in Device Manager, re-downloaded the driver package from Lenovo's driver page, and installed it. Let's hope this fixes it, and let's hope Windows doesn't "update" the driver again.  For the record, here are the updates that ran right before the problem appeared:

Good evening  I've been happy with my Yoga 900, however the clickpad over the last week has developed a mind of its own. It's been clicking on things when I've been trying to just move the cursor, not clicking on things when I've wanted it to click, scrolling for short distances when using two finger scrolling then giving up part way through despite having two fingers on the clickpad or just simply not working at all, and oddly the gestures I could never get to work (e.g. browser back and forward) all of sudden started working even though I didn't actually have three fingers on the touchpad at the time, nor did I want to go back three pages. I'm using the latest Synaptics driver from Lenovo, have disabled the more annoying personality quirks (the three finger gesture was very quickly disabled) to try and reduce the annoyance factor, have turned the sensitivty down as far as I can go without needing to press forcefully to use the clickpad generally, my fingers are clean, the clickpad is clean (with a slightly damp cloth) and still the quirks persist. Has anyone had any similar issues or have any possible solutions? Thanks

Dear Lenovo-Community,my Thinkpad S1 Yoga change into tablet modus not only when I fold back the monitor but also when I have closed the lid normaly and than reopened it or sometimes by slightly moving the monitor or a minor percussion of the table. That is very annoying, because than I have no access to keyboard or touchpad while beeing in the laptop-shape. I can revive keyboard/touchpad by folding back the monitor and than back to the normal laptop shape, but this works only one time! After that I have to send the thinkpad in the energy saving mode and wake it up, to get keyboard/touchpad back.I think it is a problem with the sensor, but does there a software setting exist so keyboard/touchpad keep unlocked in tablet-modus? Or a way to switch off the tablet-modus completely? I can live without the tablet-modus and the thinkpad is probably too old to be worth a great repair. My system is fully updated. Any idea out there?

Hi Everyone,

I've bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad T440s laptop, which I am generally very happy with, except for two issues.
1. As I was upgrading from Win8 to Win8.1 and installing software, out of curiosity I ran sfc /scannow and it can back as corrupt and not able to repair (I then repeated three times with restarts, still no joy). I sent it back to be looked at, Lenovo returned it stating that it now passed all tests. However, when I run sfc / scannow, it still brings up the same result.

Having said that, it appears to run just fine, except for:
2. When it comes out of stand-by, the track-pad pointer freezes. I then have to use the Tab key to navigate to the Reboot thingy on the Start page. I have discovered that if I use the power button to put the laptop into sleep mode again and leave it for 10 minutes, when it comes out again, I can then use the trackpad as normal. (Hibernate is disabled, I put it to sleep and re-awaken by pressing the Power button)

Before I return it to Lenovo I would like to better understand what is going on here. The second point is probably a driver issue, the first point is more concerning.

Many thanks for any and all pointers, Chig.

A:sfc cannot repair & trackpad freezes - brand new ThinkPad

Please perform another sfc/scannow command in admin command prompt, reboot and try it again.
After you have rebooted and tried it again, please upload the cbs.log file found in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS (where C is the letter of the windows partition, if you use another letter please use that letter)

If the cbs.log file is too large, please use a 3rd party uploader.

When my screen dims down, I touch the pad and screen is back up."enable touchpad" is grayed out in Mouse Properties under control panel. All trackpad features are fine, only the mouse is not working.Another thing I noticed: when I get to Windows login screen works fine (sometimes), but then, once I get authenticated and get Windows loaded, its stops working.BTW, I'm using Windows 7 Driver reinstall, reload factory image, enabled/disabled in BIOS.. nothing helps.Hopefuly a Lenovo stuff would read this and share some thoughts. This is my second 440s replacement. Hello All,Hoping to find a solution to a VERY annoying issue. When I click the left mouse button UNDER the trackpad, it clicks once when I press it down, and once when I let the button back up. So clicking it once (up and down), effectively double-clicks. I have tried resetting trackpad to default and downloading latest drivers. Neither has fixed the issue. I first noticed the problem try to fold and unfold code in Visual Studio. I click the + box and it will expand then immediately collapse again cause it is being clicked again. Same issue with closing tabs in Chrome. I close the far left tab and it closes that tab and the next tab that fills the space. Very annoying. I otherwise love this machine but this problem is driving me crazy. Thankful for any help!-Mike

I have a new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen and the track has the following problems with two finger scroll. 1 When scrolling with Internet Explorer or Edge it scrolls smoothly but then the page will start jumping up and down. It often does this during a smooth two finger scrolling stroke. 2 When scrolling through a text document, directories and most things that are not browser related the effort and number of strokes with my fingers required goes up hugely. It is like the page is stuck and difficult to move. I write software so scrolling through documents with various editors and android studio is part of my daily work. I have the latest Bios, latest drivers and Windows is fully up to date. I reported the fault to Lenovo and they signed on to my computer and agreed there is a problem. They offered to swap the laptop or to get an engineer out to replace the touchpad. When I told the consultant that this is the second X1 Yoga laptop I have had because of this problem he said it was probably a bad batch of hardware. I doubt this as it seems more like bad drivers. Does anyone else have these problems? I am currently using a Thinkpad T420 which I think is perfect machine in all ways but just too slow now. Phil

I have had my Yoga 710 Thinkpad or the last 6 months without any problems, until a couple of days ago, when my Trackpad stopped working.  There is no response from the cursor, which disappears when I use the touchscreen.  I can see the cursor when I press Ctrl, but is completely unresponsive when I try to use the trackpad.

I have been through the forums and tried everything short of resetting the computer with no success:
-Pressed F6.
-Tried to enable the mouse from the control panel, there was no option to enable or disable the touchpad.
-Tried every combination of deleting, updating and checking the mouse driver.
-Updated the BIOS from the website.  I also could not find an option to enable the mouse from the BIOS screen.
-Fully updated Windows 10.
-Booted up the computer in Safe Mode, no joy.

I am running Windows 10 on a Lenovo Yoga 710 14ISK, model 80TY, the touchpad is Synaptics.  According to the Control Panel, the device drivers are up to date, and the device is (apparently) working properly.

Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

I recently cut over from my X1 Yoga Gen 1 to the Gen 2.  I have used ThinkPad for 20 years and I never use TrackPad--always disable in BIOS.  Now I'd be working fine with it disabled however I recieved several BIOS update notifications, which I accepted.  I had no luck getting the two new P27h's to work via DP chaining...  Well good news as this fixed that issue however after the BIOS update the TrackPad was active.  I double checked BIOS and it was disabled (that said I was unable to F9 and reset to BIOS defaults, ended up disconnecting the CMOS battery and pressing reset)...  BIOS setting cleared and I was then able to reset to BIOS defaults using F9.  I made sure TrackPad was disabled, restored my time/date and other settings and booted into Windows 10.  Arrrrg that stupid TrackPad was still active!  Unfortunately when I go into Mouse settings there is only check box to enable/disable TrackPoint, nothing at all to disable/enable TrackPad--just a silly link "Windows Precision Touchpad Settings", which opens the Synaptics Control Panel--again, there's no relief to be found in there (the Advanced Settings takes me to the same place as the link).  There's no uninstall that I can locate in Add Remove Progams or even in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics subdirectory.  From device manager under HID I found Synaptics and Uninstalled + delete drivers...I hope someone can please help here...Pete

This may work for others that have the same material the trackpad on the Yoga 2 Pro is made from... I had noticed right aways that the trackpad on my Yoga 2 Pro looks oily/shiny/blotchy after a little use, and have been trying to track down a source for a vinyl or skin to protect it.  So far I haven't found much other than full device skins. In doing so I decided to use a piece of clear packing tape to clean the trackpad and was surprised that not only does it remove dust, but it makes the trackpad look like new removing any oil/buildups on it. Since I use the screen and a mouse now, I like that I can have the trackpad looking pristine until I find a source for a vinyl or skin to protect it.... if only they used glass instead like the mbpro...

I recently (as in, yesterday) bought myself a Yoga 710-14IKB. Straight out of the box, I found that the trackpad didn't work as it should. The side of my thumb, i.e. the way I would naturally click, simply won't work with attempting to left-click except on the rare occassion. Attached is an image to give you the idea--I'm not certain I described it well enough.I returned the first one, thinking it might be a hardware problem when updating and deleting the driver did nothing to help, but the replacement does the same thing. It seems like uninstalling Synaptics does show that it's not a hardware problem, but obviously leaves you with a sluggish cursor and no scrolling. It runs on Windows 10 and uses Synaptics Pointing Device v. 19.0.17.116, I'm assuming it's an issue with either Windows 10 or the latest Synaptics driver, but rolling back did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue? Any remedies out there? I can adjust to clicking differently, but I'd prefer not to. I'm very set in my ways, you know.

Hello, I have turned my Synaptics settings to "No delay" for the trackpad to function after typing. But, there is always about 1 second between when I stop typing and when the trackpad responds to my inputs. Is there a remedy for this that I am missing out?  I thought I'd wait to see if an update would be released, but it has been a couple of month, so I thought I would make a post and hopefully have someone from Lenovo see it.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

Scrolling in chrome is giving me a headache.  And I can't for the life of me find the touchpad settings for my new Yoga 910.  I searched both the control panel and metro settings with no luck.  I even went into the device manager and no touchpad to be found.  Usually there's a tab in the mouse properties but for some odd reason it doesn't exist on this computer.  Any direction would be much appreciated.

My Lenovo 900 seems to have a defective trackpad.  The trackpad seems to have two separate clicks to it... which makes it very annoying to use.  When I'm simply moving my cursor around (not engaging a "click" on the trackpad) the pad constantly makes an annoying clicking sound as my finger lightly glides on and off the trackpad surface.  It feels like the trackpad surface is not attached properly and is loose.   Anyone else having this problem?

Mine is somewhat similar, through not nearly as bad. You'll notice that the bottom of the touch pad is not flush with the rest of the laptop causing a slight rattle. These laptops aren't cheap, so swap it out for another one because they're not supposed to be like this.
