I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bought this two months ago to use purely for photos for my husband and ocassional browsing as I have a laptop of my own.  From the first off it has been so slow and it is not my internet connection as my computer is fine.  Everytime it is opened up to use whether it has been half an hour or a day it shows the desktop but you cannot open anything until you have rebooted it.  This is so frustrating,  it is just not fit for purpose, surely this should not be happening.

Hello! I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop several months ago (new) and last week it stopped charging. Can someone tell me why it's not under warranty and if this is true? Thanks.

Hey guys, new to the forums and just have a quick question..I recently had a CD burnt using tracks that were all 320kbps using WMP in my car...I was listening to it for weeks and decided for some reason to swap it out with the actual CD bought from the store. As soon as I did so I realized that the store CD was significantly louder than the one I burnt. While the quality seemed to be the same, I definitely noticed I got a lot more volume out of the real CD. So my question is how do I burn a cd that is as loud as the original? Is it possible? Do I just turn off auto volume leveling before I burn it or is there more to it than that? Thanks for any help!

A:Burning a CD thats as loud as the Original/Store bought CD

Not sure what you did, but a copy will be exactly the same as the original. If you re-encoded the tracks, then they will differ according to what you did. Tracks ripped from a CD should already be normalized, so no filtering should be done if you want the same volume.

Hello, I just changed my laptop that i used for 6 years to Dell Inspiron 15 5667. At first my audio isnt working and i sent it back to the company that i bought it from and they fixed that for me. But now, after around one month, while i travel to another country for my studies, my laptop sometimes freezes or i dont know what do u call it, the screen freezes at that moment and the mouse, keyboard is not responding too. I have to make a hard restart to solve this problem, any idea what is happening ?

A:A problem about my newly bought (2 months) dell inspiron 15 5000 series

Is the exact system model Inspiron 5567? What is the current OS version installed on the system?
Are there any bluescreens / system crashes? Do you need to manually restart the system every time the system freezes? What applications are you using when the system freezes? When you power on the system from a cold boot, how long does it take for it to freeze?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Restart the system and check in safe mode - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

So i listen to music on itunes and I put it on max volume, then like 20 min of me listening to music it suddenly freezes and makes a LOOOOOOOOUD sound that I can't exactly describe, its like a horn sound?? Well anyway's its very loud and the laptop gets frozen so there isn't anything I can do except press the off button to restart my laptop. Whats wrong with it? I barely got my laptop 4 months ago! And this problem only happens when I'm listening to music please help? :]]

Also I have enough ram because I barely install anything and I don't have many files like music and pictures saved on my laptop either :)

A:Whenever I play loud music, my laptop freezes and makes a LOUD sound??

Your computer may be overheating. Blow all the fans out with a can of compressed air. Consider a laptop cooler.
Does this happen if you listen to music through headphones?

two week ago, my father bought this old acer laptop from someone who needed money. I just found out that the PC perfomer installed inside says it has 118 errors and its the at the ''Mauvais'' stage in french. Yes my laptop is in french.

The laptop is an Acer laptop who has these stickers on it saying "Intel Atom Inside" "Designated for Microsoft Windows XP" "energy star". On two of the corners of the laptop is imprinted Aspire one.

What Im looking for is for the laptop to be just as if I just bought it from the store, erasing most of the stuff without actually deleting some of the important stuff (like Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, Paint and similar programs).

I don't own any usb drives (except a really small one that is about two gigs) or any disc drive thing.

I dont have much experience in computers nor can have contact with a tech savvy at the moment so please explain to me deeply what to do.

Also, I did not browse the site. So I do not know if a topic like this was already made. Or if this is a the right place but yea.

help anyone?

A:my father bought an old Acer laptop, need help clearing the laptop

The older Aspire Ones are unlikely to have drivers to let them run on Win 7 and XP's end of life is 04/08/2014. I had two Acer Aspire Ones and both were garbage (as were the Acer desktop, keyboard and mouse I had). Personally, I don't feel it's worth messing with. Hopefully, your father can get his money back.

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?
The forums on File History do no make this very clear.

Finally got the new PSC. Plugged it in this afternoon and immediately got a BSOD when XP was trying to load.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

I am running Windows XP 2002 SP3 on my laptop along with McAfee Security Center which is provided by AT&T. The laptop has historically ran very smoothly, but I noticed the performance starting to degrade about 2-3 months ago. It is now to the point where I am suspecting some sort of infection or malware because the performance is so bad. Sometimes, the CPU performance locks at 100% for long periods which explains the slow performance. But other times, there is no explanation ... the CPU performance appears normal (fluctuates between 0-25%) yet the laptop remains sluggish.

I have not made any system changes or recently added any new applications other than coupon printing apps that I have been told are safe.

Can you please help me determine what may be causing this problem? I'll be happy to provide any additional information or run any tests deemed necessary.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi all, hoping somebody can offer some advice.

About 9 months ago I purchased a new laptop, an Acer V5-571 (i3 1.4Ghz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD and Windows 8) It's nothing special and was never intended to be. I only use it for web browsing, e-mail, IM, Word and maybe watching some videos on YouTube.

In fact in the 9 months I've had it, I've not attempted to play one even slightly intensive game on it, as I think I killed my previous laptop in its early days by attempting to do this.

Anyway the problem is it has become very noisy, fan wise. When I first had the laptop (and for the first 6-7 months) it was silent for the majority of the time, even when browsing the web.

Now the fan can always be heard when I have a browser open or whatever. The only way it silences is if I close every application and just leave it at the Windows desktop for a while (or if I turn it off!)

I know dust build up can occur but I've had a look through the vent and can't notice anything untoward. Although I appreciate it may be hard to see from the outside, I don't really want to be opening the case yet.

I was wondering if this was normal for a laptop in this age range? My previous laptop, another Acer, didn't start getting noisy constantly until the end of its days (and that was in it's 4th-5th year)

It's just frustrating that the fan can always be heard even when doing very little in Windows. I also can't see any rogue processes taking up resources.

I've changed my laptop habits a lot since thi... Read more

A:Acer V5-571 laptop - 9 months old yet becoming very noisy

Only thing I can think of at the moment is to use a program similar to CPUZ and check the temperatures at various time.check temp when first started as that should be lowest and listen to noise then use something a bit cpu intensive like a photo edit and again check temp and noise. if temp going up with little cpu action and noisy chances are it it dust. when I first cleaned mine I used a can of air duster thru the vent holes to stir dust up a bit and a vac to suck it out. Hold with vent holes downwards.

Only other way is to get a set of headphones and play your favourite track at max volume

My laptop suddenly stopped charging when plugged in, and only charges when it is switched off. Also the space bar stopped functioning. I bought it 9 months back and it's still under the warranty period., but they said they will be able to fix the space bar problem only and not the charging problem and for that I would have to pay up. And the charging port that they would change would be under warranty only for 2 months, which means as per HP service center it could stop working again!!!!. I'm a doctor and I live alone. I've hardly used my laptop and no one else uses my laptop. I read somewhere that this was a problem faced by many people using HP laptops. This could be a manufacturing defect. I don't think I should be charged for hardly using my HP laptop that has an inherent defect. You are looting your customers. Kindly revert back.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but I have been following it for some time. I seriously hope someone will be able to help me.
Here is my problem: I bought a new ASUS laptop 3 months ago, and it was all okay until it started to shut down on its own ( about a month ago). I tried resetting Windows, updating etc then I replaced my hdd because a software diagnostics tool reported that there were bad sectors. I could also hear strange noises. I read that manhandling the laptop while it is running could damage the delicate workings of the hdd, and I had done that sometimes. Everything was fine for almost a week, then the computer started shutting down on its own again. It happened while I was working , keeping multiple programs open (twice, hours after turning it on) and while I was watching a video (10-15 min later). However, today was not the first time I watched a video, so the issue is new. It seems like it is gradually worsening. After it shut down, I tried to power it back on, but it wouldn't boot. The LEDs didn't even turn on, unless it was plugged in. When i unplugged the charger it shut down again immediately. After 3 minutes I removed the external power supply, and it kept running.

I have already updated the BIOS firmware to the last version, but it obviously didn't work.
ASUS PC Diagnostics tells me that the CMOS pattern test failed, I looked up possible solutions, but I wanted to ask before doing anything stupid.
I am pretty sure it isn't a heat ... Read more

I'm not sure what you mean by this?
What is the make and model of your computer? You may have a Recovery Partition on your computer. If you start up your computer, you may have a quick message over the logo that says Press (key) to Enter Recovery, sometimes this is F11. If so, this will set your computer back to Factory Defaults. This will remove all personal data, so backup first.
If you do not have a recovery partition, then read up on the link in my signature PC Running Slow? And try those things.

Ok so today I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-NS190J from Abt Electronics. It has great specs i thought for a laptop it has a 2.0 GHZ processor, 4 Gigs of Ram, and blue ray and all. It runs vista which I hate but my wife likes it. So i started it up and noticed it takes like 1:30 to startup at least as where my Dell E1505 which i just restored to XP takes about 20 seconds. Also I have noticed the internet is kinda slow and choppy to. I have tried to uninstall alot of the crapware and think I got it all but still a lil slow. I bought this for my wife to be able to Multi-task as she plays a game called Second Life and this computer cant even seem to Rez the graphics which makes no sense because my 5 year old laptop can rez them. I was just wanting to know do you guys think a fresh copy of Vista not the Sony version would make this run better? OR is their a way to fix these problems? Thanks you guys....

A:I just bought this laptop....

Hi -

No difference between the "Sony version" of Vista and Vista. I don't see a re-install of Vista helping on a system < 24 hours old.

Did the system come with an Internet Security package like Norton or Mcafee? This is the most likely culprit. If existence of such, it must be taken out w/ removal tool. Program un-install won't do it.

Let me take quick look at sys info - run msinfo32 and save as NFO file -
START | msinfo32 | save as default NFO file

Zip it up and attach to next post.

LOL... well, I bought it new, its not so much have I bought a bad laptop in the 'I bought it second hand off E-Bay and now that bargain is coming back to haunt me' sense, its more along the lines of everything seems to be going wrong with it...

Now, admittedly it is my first laptop but I'm a veteran of the desktop PC and in all honesty I can't see why there would be too great a difference between them, so let me fill you in on the detail, and why I think its a bad egg...

1. I've had the laptop for under 30 days... bought as a Christmas present...

2. The laptop is listed as having 64MB of shared Video Memory, expandable to 128MB [which I've still not figured out how to do!], yet when it came to running a game which required 64MB of Video Memory as a pre-install condition, I was told I wasn't able to install the game as I only had 60MB of video memory...

3. Running AIDA32, my two RAM sticks are recognised as 512MB each... yet when it comes to the overview screen which totals the RAM, it tallys to 1014MB, instead of 1024MB...

4. I've been unable to play Counter-Strike from it... it runs I might enjoy one game, then I'm cut down by the now infamous WSAEINTR error... its commonly attributed to some defect in the Winsock area but the speculative remedies I've tried have failed to rectify the problem

5. As of today, my HD appears to be failing... it was a very sudden thing... had no troubles up to this point, but earlier toda... Read more

Well, just bought a new laptop from the trading post. Met the guy and everything worked perfectly. Got home, tried to open up my email, and I am blocked by "k9 web protection".

I have tried calling the guy and I get no answer. No idea where he lives. Is there any way to get past this program until I can get it fixed someway?

I don't want to spend alot of money getting it taken off by a computer store unless that is the last resort.

Someone please help. I use my laptop alot for business purposes and this is putting a stranglehold on my progress as of late.

A:Just bought a new laptop..

Hi Bill, welcome to TSF

If you've got the guy's phone number, keep trying to contact him for the password, as this is needed to uninstall K9.

The forum rules don't allow us to help with bypassing security settings.

From the rules: "You may not ask for assistance to circumvent restrictions or security on any computer system or network.

You could try contacting K9's Support team at http://www1.k9webprotection.com/support/index.php. Obviously, the whole point of security software is to keep unauthorised people out of the system, so they might not be able to help you without proof of ownership.

EDIT: If it's only blocking your ability to read your email, you could go onto another computer, set up a webmail account (google, yahoo, etc), then redirect your regular email to the webmail account which you can view in your browser on the new laptop.

Am I the only one or is the HP ProBook 650 G1 loud?I bought this computer used but it was quite new - 3 months old at maximum. Besides the noise I have nothing to complain about, awesome laptop. Everything is clean and shiny, I got clean windows 10 installed as well. The fans start spinning when all I am doing is browsing the web and that is annoying to be honest - I want my laptop to be silent, noise would be understandable if I  was running heavy tasks but only an internet browser? Come on.My laptop is running an SSD  which is known to run cooler than HDD's.What I don't understand is, why are the fans audible even at 2% speed?I'm currently running a third party program to disable the fans completely unless the temperature goes beyond 75 degrees, + it is quite cold in my room so I can't even imagine the noise I'll be getting in summer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500D laptop and the fan has suddenly become very noisy and is making the whole laptop vibrate (my hand is actually going numb after using it for a while). I've taken the fan out and cleaned off all the dust from it but the problem still persists. Is there any way of fixing it? Perhaps adding some lubricant/oil?

A:Laptop fan really loud

I thjink if its that bad the best thing would be to replace it. putting oil in a computer will do more harm than good i would think with all of the delicate electronics in there.

A laptop suddenly started having a loud fan. Is this a common problem on Dell Inspirion 9300? How can I fix it? Is this repairable by Dell warranty?

A:laptop loud fan

Yes you can send it back to tell and they'll replace the fan or you can order the fan and do it yourself if you know what you're doing?

So I turned on my laptop, logged in with my password and the second after that it started to made really loud noises and probably woke up everyone in the house... It kinda sounded like a lawnmower, or a car engine. Don't know an exact example of the sound but it sounded horrible and I knew something was wrong. My laptop made noises in the past, usually it would be randomly detecting a CD when nothing was put in, and sometimes that triggered the CD port to open. This time, however, the weird sound was constant and didn't get quieter over time. I waited for a bit to see if it would stop, but after 5 minutes decided to turn it off because it just wouldn't. I feared it would explode! Luckily, the noise stopped when it was completely turned off. After a bit, I turned it on again, to see if the same thing occurs twice, but no, it didn't. As always, the only thing I could hear was a pretty loud fan.

I have no idea nor any specific computer knowledge of what could be wrong with my laptop at this point. =(
The computer is 3,5 years old. Were problems like this supposed to happen eventually? Should I just buy a new one, or at least think about it?

I am working on my friends laptop and I cannot figure out how to make the fan stop running all the time! Well at least I think its the fan. It is constantly humming unless its sleeping or turned off.

EDIT: The humming keeps coming and going now that I've posted.

Here's what I've tried so far:

I've gone into the Power Settings via the Control Panel and changed the "System Cooling Policy" under "Advanced Power Options."

It still won't quit running.

I've even gone into the BIOS menu and disabled the option that says "Fan Always On."

I also tried Speed Fan, but there are no options to control the speed of the fans.

It is a laptop.
Compaq Presario CQ50
Windows 7 Ultimate x86
Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00GHz
3 GB of RAM
320 GB HDD

The PC came installed with Vista but was upgraded to Windows 7. Compaq has the drivers for Windows 7 on their website so 7 IS SUPPORTED by the PC.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!
P.S. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 (also laptop) that was designed for XP, running Windows 7 that is WAY COOLER (temp wise) than my friends is that was designed for Vista.

A:Laptop Fan Loud while doing NOTHING

Hello, it could be the age of the laptop. Have you tried using canned air to attempt blowing out the dust and crap that may have clogged up the fan. Just a thought.

I have windows 7; 64 bit. I noticed that the laptop is getting very hot and the fan makes noise. Trying to solve this problem I went to the HPSA. It shows that I have no updates needed; however when I go to the HP site and I ask it to identify my system it does show a lot of outstanding updates. Therefore I need help on 2 issues, the first one the heat being generated and the second about the updates. I also checked and it shows that I have the latest version of Support Assistant. The updates are all from 2016 and 2 refer to BIOS.

Hi guys. I bought an Acer laptop from Argos only 2 months ago and all has been well with it up till the last week or so.

The laptop began to get slower and then eventually begam to freeze at windows loading screen.

I get a blue screen with the STOP code: 0x0000007B

I have re-installed the ACER backup version of windows several times and all is well for the first few restarts then gradually begins to get slower again until eventually it wont boot. When it does manage to load windows the HDD light is constantly on and the Laptop is so laggy. I cant seem to do anything for about 15 minutes. I have CTRL-ALT-Deleted and there are only a few processes running and the CPU is only 15% in use.

I have tried my dads version of Windows 7 incase the Acer version was corrupt and again the same thing happens. I have also tried XP and again same thing happens.

I have searched and searched but there doesnt seem to be an answer to the problem. I have tried changing the BIOS settings (ie. changing sata to IDE) but still to no avail. A friend gave me another hard drive so I could test that and it gave the blue screen straight away. However this time when I changed to IDE in BIOS it loaded windows from his Hard disk.

I decided to re-install yet again but this time its taking for ever so it seems that it is gradually getting worse.

Here is the Laptop AS5820T-354G32Mns | Product Model

Any ideas? I was thinking can I try and re-install Bios via the ACER support downloads?

A:Laptop slows then freezes. 2 Months old. BSOD

Hello b_kennedy and Welcome to TSF,

I'm moving this thread to the BSOD/Crash analysis part of the forum instead. Please read through the posting instructions found here if you want us to analyze the BSOD's and let you know the cause of it.

After that we can determine if it's a software fault, which we can help you with. Or if it's a hardware fault, in that cause you should have a valid warranty on it as it's only two months old.

It's up to you whether you want to go through the troubleshooting or hand it in.

In December, my laptop starting resetting itself (still in warranty). Its now May, and Lenovo are still refusing to give me a refund or a replacement. I feel I've been very understanding and patient at all the slow failed attempts to deal with the problem, but I'm completely fed up now. I'm a student, so having a reliable laptop is obviously really helpful, but I've spent many weeks of this year without a laptop whilst Lenovo have tried to repair it, and the rest of the time I've had a laptop that resets without warning which means I sometimes lose work even though I save my work regularly and back it up.  In January, it was sent to be repaired, they replaced the hard drive, but the problem still kept happening when it came back in February. In February, it was sent to be repaired again. They couldn't replicate the problem so claimed it was working fine (even though I had sent evidence that it wasn't fine, each reset left reports in the reliability monitor about bug report 124 and that it was a hardware error). So they sent it back unchanged after several weeks. Lenovo told me if the problem was still happening that they would refund or replace it.However, when I reported it still did happen, they said actually it was Lenovo's policy that there must be three failed repairs before they would do that.So in March I sent it off again to be repaired, this time they acknowledged again there was a fault, but they just replaced the hard drive. If it happened befor... Read more
