ThinkPad -Fingerprint problem Windows login

Q: ThinkPad -Fingerprint problem Windows login

Hello! On my T550 I have problems with the fingerprint option. I have registered several fingers but when I need to log into Windows 7 no fingerprint logo appears (even though the light of the fingerreader lights up). I have to press Control Alt Del and only then I'm able to use the fingerprint option. Driver is up to date. Als other people at my office report this problem. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Did you just recently install Windows Spring Creators Update (Version 1803)? It is known to mess with the fingerprint system. The solution is to reinstall the driver. You say your driver is up to date. But did you install it just now, or did you check the version number only? If you just checked the version number, I would recommend as a first step to reinstall the fingerprint driver.

Just keeping a thread alive. I've found no solution. The inbuilt windows fingerprint reader software seems as if it could be a lot more graceful than the old IBM add on, except that I have to make all these extra clicks at login, instead of just swiping my finger. If anyone finds a solution, or MS sees this and realizes it's dumb this way. . . .

I can't find a way to use my fingerprint to login to the domain in Windows 8.1
It seems that Win8 is different that Win7 in terms of allowing for fingerprint domain login.  Based on what I found on another Win7 thread I did some modifications
and got this far in terms of fixing the problem:
In Administration Tools go to:
Local Group Policy Editor / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Biometrics

 Allow  the use of biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  domain users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured')
After this the PC will ask you to ?Lock? the PC and follow instructions.  I keep restarting the PC but can't get it to work yet; I'm probably misunderstanding
something or missed a step.

I have an HP 4540s, windows 7 professional 64,  with a fingerprint scanner that was working to login to windows.  Now scanning an enrolled fingerprint won't login, it just goes back to the windows login user selection screen.  The fingerprint scanner works, it will say that an unenrolled fingerprint is not verified, and will bring up the HP Protect Tools Password Manager if swiped with an enrolled fingerprint when logged in.   How can I fix the fingerprint windows login?  I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Hp Protect Tools security manager, Device access manager for HP protect tools, and Validity fingerprint sensor driver.  Hard reset did not fix.

I finally got Windows 10 installed via the update method from Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  But now I am unable to get the fingerprint scanner to work. It shows up in Device Manager as working okay and drivers installed. However in Win10 Settings, Logins, the option to enable the fingerprint scanner does not appear.  Now what? One of the prerequisites to enable the fingerprint scanner in Win10 is to first set up a PIN login, which I did. After that and rebooted  I was offered the PIN signin, which worked.  But STILL, nothing I could do would let me setup the fingerprint scanner in Windows login settings. It's as though there was no fingerprint scanner installed on the machine. I checked the HP Support website for an updated fingerprint scanner driver, but none was offered. I tried uninstalling the hardware in Device Manager. It appears under Biometric>Validity Sensor.  After uninstalling I made it search for new hardware. It found that sensor and reinstalled the drivers. It said the device was working.  But after reboot I am still unable to see an Enable Fingerprint Scanner choice in Windows 10 Settings>Accounts>Sign-in Options. The items in the right column in that section are Require Sign-In; Password; PIN; Picture Password; and Related settings. When I search Win 10 settings for Fingerprint Scanner, it provides a link that takes me to that Sign-In Options page, but there is no item for Hello or Setup Fingerprint Sign-in.&... After much trial and error, I have finally found a way to get the fingerprint scanner on select HP laptops to work with Windows 10 ?HELLO?. First, one needs to verify that the machine has the required scanner. The scanner is usually already installed in Device Manager, but not recognized anywhere else. So, to check that the device is the correct one for this process to work, its ID should be checked in Device Manager. To do this, follow these steps:Click on the Start button and type ?Device Manager? and ENTER. This should launch the Device Manager.Expand the Biometric devices. You should now see an entry for the Validity Sensor (It sometimes has additional descriptions, but all we need is to ID the VALIDITY device).Double-click on the VALIDITY device to open its? PropertiesClick on the Details tab and select Hardware Ids in the Property entry box.If the device can be ?fixed? with the process detailed below, it will have a Hardware ID of: USB\VID_138A&PID_0007You can now close all open windows until you are back at the desktop.Nothing has been changed yet, BUT?if the Hardware ID matches the entry above, you are ?good to go? in performing the procedures below! Hopefully, the Hardware ID will match on your machine and you can now proceed with the actual download and upgrade procedures as detailed in the following stages: Stage 1 - DownloadFirst, we need to get the correct driver for Windows 10. Hello,I've a brand new Yoga 920 glass with win 10 x64 /lenovo vanatge fully updated, (included latest bios).the problem is: after long hybernation (overnight, typically) the fingerpint doesn't work at Windows Hello user login. and I must use PIN o psw.  If I try to replicate the issue activating hybernation and then start immediately again the problem doesn't happen. Also when in suspension it never happens (also because my lap is set to go in hybernation after 2 hours).TMore specifically, the option to login with fingerprint IS present, but laying the finger doesn't trigger - obviously - a "login" neither a "wrong" feedback, it just doesnt' happen anything.  I've tried to search the forum and google it, but no luck,I've already tried to do:1. Install Intel SGX latest driver on the support page2. Install Intel chipset latest driver on the support page3. Install Fingerprint latest driver on the support page4. Enter BIOS and change SGX settings to Software controlled: fingerpint login become unavailable at login. Windows 10 event log says:  It seems a problem of driver/service can't engaging... maybe because of power management? But I can't really find a solution. Suggestions?

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

I have been using the fingerprint sensor to login for the past 6 months.  However, all of a sudden, today I am unable to login with my fingerprint or pin.  But was able to login with my microsoft password.  The error kept stating that they cannot recognise my fingerprint.  After i tried to key in my PIN, the error instead said I had to setup the fingerprint login before I can use that function, which of course I have done so, thats why i could login using fingerprints for 6 months up until yesterday.   I did not download anything significant yesterday, only downloaded various files uploaded by my school.  My McAfee antivirus  seems to be fully functioning.  I've restarted the laptop, and there was no change. Therefore I logged in, removed fingerprint access, added fingerprint access, which they also asked me to 'make a PIN' which i obviously have had a PIN beforehand.  Completed the PIN making and fingerprint access, shut down the computer, restart it, and i cant login again with fingerprint or PIN.  However, i login with password and go to settings and realise the fingerprint access is still activated. Hope you will be able to assist me in this issue.  Thank you

Hey guys! I got my T420s today and its a great laptop so far. none of these fan issues that alot of people seem to be having and everything is running great. I set up the fingerprint reader for when i login to replace my password login. The only problem now is that when i lock the computer to login again it says "other credentials" and then when i click on it, it says "Fingerprint Logon" and "Tommy Locked" and when you click on "Tommy Locked" it just logs you straight in and bypasses the fingerprint reader. I need to know how to remove the "Tommy Locked" option so i can only get in using the fingerprint reader. Can somebody let me know how to do this? I have had a look in control panel but i cant see anything.  Thanks,Tommy.

Solved!

A:T420s fingerprint login issues.

When you say "logs you straight in and bypasses the fingerprint reader", you mean you have to enter your Windows password, correct?

Are you looking for a way to make Windows require you to log in with your fingerprint reader and not allow you to log in with only your windows password?  If so, what will you do if you injure your finger, or in case your fingerprint hardware stops working unexpectedly?

I have an HP dv4-1430us laptop which does NOT have a fingerprint scanner. It came with Vista. With Vista, whenever the computer was started up it immediately went to my login screen and was prompting me for my password. All I had to do to login was start typing. Since upgrading to Win 7 (home premium 64 bit), whenever I start the computer I have a choice of login options. Instead of just typing my password, I must first click on either my login name or on the 'DigitalPersona' fingerprint logo. It's not like this is a major issue, clicking only takes a few seconds, but since I don't even have a fingerprint scanner....

Can anyone tell me how to disable the fingerpring login option? I tried searching, but could only find threads offering help to get it working, not removed. DigitalPersona does show up on my 'remove program' list, but I wasn't sure if that would just confuse Win 7 upon startup and lock up the computer.

TIA
