Why can't I download android app files to my pc...

Q: Why can't I download android app files to my pc...

...and then install them to my android? My desktop/laptop internet speed is much faster than my droid is..plus if I have my apps on my pc and something happens to the phone, I can get things up and running again really quickly. But NO, all of the sites I have visited require that my droid download the file and then install it from there.... I know this sounds like venting - part of it is. But my legit question is, is there some secret way to download app to my pc and then install them to my phone? Is there an app I can install on my pc that will let me do this? This is sooooo time consuming. In the "olden days" with the "really slow and inefficient" windows mobile, I could do a full reinstall on my pda in about 10 minutes, including restoring the data files. With this droid system I am afraid that it might take the better part of a morning...is this progress???

Preferred Solution: Why can't I download android app files to my pc...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Apple MacBook Pro laptop. I am trying to download photos from a Moto G 1st generation phone to my Mac. Nothing I've tried allows the Mac to recognize the Moto G phone. H-E-L-P. I've tried 2 different file transfer software and neither of them work. I've tried Android file transfer and nothing recognizes that dang phone. I even switched cables to make sure that wasn't the problem. All software is up to date on the Mac and the phone. I have to be doing something wrong.
Thank you,

Try using the pre-installed application caller "image capture". Search for it using spotlight. It works for an android device I use, when android file transfer didn't.

This  one of the rare occasions that I can start up without being in Safe Mode. Last night in addition to repeated BSODs, I start getting popups from Aviasales, a Russian travel company with offices here in Thailand, where I live. I also got links to porno sites and a gambling site. This morning my Android tells me it has downloaded a file from rmakaro.beget.ru called v4.4.0.apk.I have used various virus scanners, Tdss killer an a few others, that sometimes break down in mid scan. Any ideas? So recently i got my OnePlus3. And this is my first device which don't have any external SD Card.
I love to flash new roms and to do new experiments on my device.
But the main problem with internal storage is that if you got brick you have to format internal storage and loose all data.
I tried to search on xda but everyone seems to be using cloud options, but i cant use those. bandwidth issue.

So coming to the main point.
I need something that can sync all my files on androids internal storage with selected folder in windows whenever i connect my phone via usb.

Rite now the only solution i can think of is a script that can run Auto/Manually whenever i connect my phone in MTP mode
and compare all files between phones internal storage and folder in windows and copy missing/new files to the folder.

Or if there is already an app that can do this.

Hello!

This is definitely a Windows 10 thing. If I connect either my Nexus 5 or my LG G4 to my PC via USB the phone is recognized. I can see it in Windows Explorer but clicking on it does nothing, no access to files.

Before I made the jump from Vista to Windows 10 it worked fine. There has to be some setting someplace. I did apply a hotfix (KB3099229_x64) which was supposed to fix the issue. It did not!

If there's some trick to it could you share it with me???

Thanks for you help way in advance!

A:Android device recognized but cannot access files on it

Are you sure you switched your phone to "File transfer" mode, as opposed to "Charging only" mode? Because this is exactly what happens when you connect an Android phone in "Charging only" mode: it becomes visible in Windows (e.g. in File Explorer), but shows as empty device - no file access.

In standard cookie-cutter Android Marshmallow you are supposed to manually switch the phone to "File transfer" mode every time you connect it to the computer. (Before Marshmallow it was possible to set a default mode, but for some reason they removed that capability in Marshmallow).

What am I doing wrong?

Could it be a simple typo? The path should be typed with backslash \ instead of slash /, so the path should be H:\sdcard\folder instead of H:/sdcard/folder.

There are a number of Android apps (Google Play-sourced only), mainly photo and video-related, which I like a lot, although I don't really like using a tablet. I've researched a bit into Android emulators which run on Windows 7 e.g. here

and while the idea sounds great, I wonder -- Android is said to have loads of security flaws. I work pretty hard to keep my Win 7 PC clean (I hope!). Is there a risk that by running Android apps, I'm running security risks?

A:Does running an Android emulator bring Android-type security risks?

First of all, it's simply not true that Android has "lots of security flaws". Of course it's not immune to viruses and attackers, but it's not inherently that its an immense risk in it. There are vulnerabilities, but most problems actually came from using untrusted software that abuses the devise. As always, the number one vulnerability in any system is the user.

Now to business. There is no exact answer to that question. It will greatly depend on what emulator do you use and how it's exactly implemented, how does it manages to run Android software and how much does it emulated and how exactly. Frequently, I would expect a different implementation of the Android low level API, meaning that bugs in Android will never afect an emulator (which in turn can have its own bugs), unless some behavior is there "by design", in which case the emulator should attempt to copy it.
Besides, I would expect the emulator to isolate the host computer from malicious Android software (which is not generally aware of Windows existence). Unless an Android virus specifically targets a particular flaw of a particular version of a particular emulator (which as already happened with virtual machines), I won't worry too much about it.

The comes the problem of what programs do you install on the emulated Android. When you install a virus there, it will attempt to do the same malicious actions than it would do on a real phone. Some actions will work the same, for example those i... Read more

Windows 10 Bug Causes Data Loss on Android When Copying Files with File Explorer

A bug in Windows 10 causes files copied from one location to another on a PC-connected Android device to vanish completely if the built-in file manager File Explorer is used for the operation.

The issue affects only files that are being moved or copied from an Android folder or storage device to another location on the same Android phone or tablet using an MTP or PTP USB connection, and doesn?t seem to impact copying data on a Windows 10 PC.

So basically, if you connect an Android device to a Windows 10 PC and try to move files with File Explorer from the phone to an SD card or vice-versa, this will result in your data vanishing completely. The transfer appears to be working, but the files do not end up being moved to the destination folder, with no recovery possible for the time being.

The bug has already been confirmed on Windows 10, with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 working correctly. Also, several Android phones appear to be affected, including OnePlus and LG models, Google?s Nexus and Pixel, HTC U11, Nokia phones, and several Xiaomi and Sony models. On the other hand, Samsung?s and BlackBerry?s devices are working correctly, user reports indicate.

Just copy data to the PC and you?re safe
While Microsoft hasn?t yet acknowledged the bug, the easiest way to avoid any data loss is to create a backup that would allow you to restore files at any given time.

And since the issue ... Read more

It's official: Android N will be called Android Nougat

After teasing the announcement earlier, Google has formally announced the name of Android N, which will be Nougat.

Google first released the Android N Developer Preview back in March, but the company didn't formally announce it until its Google I/O developer conference in May. The firm then asked for users to submit feedback on what the name should be.

Android Nougat is expected to ship within the next couple months, but it's worth noting that the current version of Android, Marshmallow, is only on 10.1% of Android devices. Nougat certainly has its work cut out for it if it wants to gain significant traction.

The company didn't reveal the version number for the next iteration of its mobile OS, but it has been leaked that it will be Android 7.0 Nougat.

In addition, known defects have been corrected.

The updated anti-viruses are available on Google Play (Dr.Web for Android. Comprehensive protection, Dr.Web for Android. Life License and Dr.Web Anti-virus Light) as well as from Doctor Web's site.

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically. If automatic updates are disabled on the device, go to Google Play; choose Dr.Web Anti-virus, Dr.Web Anti-Virus Life license or Dr.Web for Android Light on the application list; and click "Update".

To perform an update via Doctor Web's site, download the updated distribution. If the option ?New application version? is enabled, a new version notification will be displayed when the virus databases are being updated. You can start the download directly from this dialogue box.

I've done this before, and have searched, searched, and searched and can't find a way to do it again.
For example, I was downloading updates for Studio MX this morning. Only 2 downloads at a time would be active, and the rest would just sit there waiting. I know there is a registry tweak to fix this, but I can't find it. Google+Forum Searches=Nothing

----------------------------------------------------------------

And I know that some people who read this thread use download accelerators. I used DAP, but didn't like the ads. I used FlashGet, but didn't like the ads. Anyone else know of a good accelerator/leecher?

Hi Atomic Taco

You can download a file to do this for you here:

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web has released a free Dr.Web utility that decrypts files corrupted byAndroid.Locker.2.originransomware. Once an Android handheld is infected, the malicious program encrypts photos, documents, videos and other information stored on the SD card, locks the device's screen and demands a ransom to restore it to normal operation. To counter this threat, users of Dr.Web comprehensive protection software for Android can now request the utility from Doctor Web's technical support.

Discovered in May, the extortionist Android.Locker.2.origin poses extreme danger to user data. On an infected mobile device, the extortionist searches the available memory cards for files with the following extensions: .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt, .avi, .mkv, and .3gp. It encrypts the files and adds the extension .enc to the filenames. Then the mobile device's screen is locked, and a message is displayed that accuses the user of distributing adult content and demands a ransom to unlock the device. To enhance the effect, the extortionist can also add a photo of the user, made with the handheld's front camera, to the ransom demand message.

After thoroughly examining the ransomware, Doctor Web designed a special utility that will most likely decrypt files corrupted by the malicious application, making it unnecessary for users to pay a ransom.

The utility scans the available SD card for encrypted files and attempts to r... Read more

When I try to download .exe files, my computer either saves it as 0KB or downloads it and then doesn't let me open the file. No windows pop up to tell me the file is forbidden or anything - clicking just doesn't get a response. I don't think this has to do with the browser I'm using, because this happens on Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer, but for some reason my computer can open .exe files other people downloaded and put on thumb drives for me. This problem possibly predates my installation of Windows 7. (I've had this problem for over a year and a half but decided to find it entertaining rather than annoying enough to fix.)

I use Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and have an out of date version of Avast on my computer (I would uninstall it, but that requires an .exe file on their website), if that's relevant.

Google officially concludes Beta Program for Android Nougat; Android O Beta coming soon

Back in March 2016, Google released the "Android N" Developer Preview for a few supported devices. The aim of the program was to allow the company more time to incorporate developer feedback, and to submit the final version of the release to hardware manufacturers for early testing.

Google has now announced that the Android Nougat Beta Program is complete, and that a Beta for the next version of the operating system will be released soon.

Before the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat to the general public, five Developer Previews were seeded out to those willing to test early builds of the operating system on their devices. After the general rollout of the aforementioned iteration of Android, Google also released two versions of Android 7.1 to users in the Developer Preview.

However, now with "Android O" on the horizon, Google has concluded the Beta Program for Android Nougat, saying that:

Thank you for your interest in the Android Beta Program! The beta for Android Nougat has concluded, and all devices that were opted in have been updated to the current public version. If you are still running a beta version of Nougat you may download the latest full OTA image for your device and sideload it. This will not wipe your device. We'll update this site when the Android O Beta Program begins.

In the meantime, you're welcome to talk to other interested us... Read more

PCScan, Panda, Spybot) that seemed to clear the problem, at least temporarily, but now I am having a download issue which I believe to be a result of the malware problem from last week. When I attempt to download files from internet (various sites) using Google Chrome I get the error message "insufficient permissions". Also I have tried using Firefox and I cannot download either. I have tried changing the download folder in the attribute section from read only; however this does not help. I am using Windows XP, 32 bit, Professional Version 2002 with service pack 3. I am some what of a novice when it comes to knowing my way around the computer so please be patient with me.

The odd thing about it is I'm able to create files myself with other programs, and I can download through Chrone just fine. I would just use chrome, but It's a work computer and We're supposed to use IE. Being able to extract .zip files would also be nice. Has anyone else heard of/seen this issue? Let me know if you need any more information.

Today, September 13, 2016, Android-x86 developer Chih-Wei Huang was happy to announce the general availability of the final release of the Android-x86 6.0 operating system for personal computers.

Android-x86 6.0 has been in the works since early this year, and it received a total of two RC (Release Candidate) builds during its entire development cycle, one in June and another in August. I can't seem to download those files, it just keep downloading it to my broswer instead of my HD. Is there a way to fix this.

A:Download pdf files

You have two choices. You can either right click and select save target as or when it is open in your browser, click on file then save as. It is correctly opening in the browser. Acrobat partially integrates with IE to allow you to view the files within a browser window. The suggestions above should work if you want to save the file.

Whenever I click a link to download a .exe file from the net, the file download box appears, but then nothing happens, and it just stays there forever. The download progress box remains empty, and the other fields such as the estimated time left remain blank.

It's only recently that I've had this problem, so something's gone wrong somewhere.

I've tried searching on Google, clearing spyware and adware, done a thorough 2 hour virus check, and a system restore but I still can't clear up the problem.

Any help would be very gratefully received as it's driving me mad.

A:Can't Download .exe Files

Hi Jim1978
Do you surf with Internet Explorer ?
Then check this out:

* In the menu on the top of an internet windows, choose "Tools" > "Internet Options" > the "Security" tab
* click "Internet Zone" > Custom button
* Under "Downloads", is the download of files Enabled ? If not, enable it > clicj "OK" button, reboot and try if you can download .exe files now,

Also check out security program (anti-virus, ..) , one might be blocking the download of .exe files from the internet.
Good luck!

I am trying to download some of the security files (my computer has gotten very slow and non-responsive) here from Bleeping Computer which I have done in the past on several occasions but for some reason even though I go through the motions they are not downloading and I can't figure out way so any insight would be appreciated.

When I look at the history it shows the files downloading but then they vanish sort of like those mysterious airplanes that flew into thin air.

Thanks.

A:Can't Download Files

You might have your security settings set too high. You might want to reset them back to default and see if that makes any difference.
Also when you do download anything what does happen?

Do they get blocked?
Is there an Error Message of any sort?
Have you tried this method in Safe-Mode?

To reset your security settings try this :

Re/Enable Downloads

Close all Internet Explorer windows.
Press the Windows key  + R.
Type inetcpl.cpl into the Open field and click OK. This will open Internet Properties (otherwise known as Internet Options).
Figure 1-1
Click the Security tab  Reset all zones to default level.

Figure 1-2
When you are finished, click OK to save your changes.

I am running Win7 Pro Service pack 1 64-bit.  I was trying to download an attachment, a PDF, sent to me wia my yahoo mail.  I use the web interface for Yahoo, and it tells me that the file can't be downloaded.  I go to Bleeping Computer to try to download malwarebytes (mbam-setup.exe) and when I click on the link, it asks me if I want to run or save.  I select save, and it downloads the file, I see the % downloaded climbing, and it looks like it hit 100%, and then the box at the bottom of the IE9 browser window says mbam-setup.exe couldn't be downloaded.  Does not seem to matter the file type, they all end up saying the same thing, XXXX couldn't be downloaded.  If I select the retry button, the banner flashes, but says the same thing.  I checked in Internet Setting, Security, and made sure File Download is checked.  I even upgraded to IE10, and had the same issue, so I reverted back to IE9.  Any thoughts on what is going on, and what I can do to fix it?  Thanks in advance...  Also, I am running Norton Antivirus 20.3.1.22, bt have turned off real-time scanning, and still can't download.

Hi Chief,

Welcome to the Forum.

Do you mean you want to copy files from a cd to your hd ?

You can rt click the dvd drive and select Copy, then paste to a folder of your choice on the hd - this will copy the entire contents of the cd.

For individual files, rt click the drive, select Open, then from the window that opens , copy and paste any of the files you want.

Hope it helps

Hello,

I am trying to download some wav files to give my computer some personality. I have no trouble playing the files that came with it (dings, beeps, bells, etc.) but when I try to dl a file it says it can't find a program to open it with.

How do I associate a .wav file with a sound program already installed on my computer. I have Windows Media and Real Sound that I know of.

Thanks for your help.

A:I can't download wav files.

Find a .wav file on your computer, then select (highlight) it and shift+right click. Select "open with" from the dialog and then scroll to and select the media player you want to play wav files. Check the "always use" box. You may have to click the "other" tab to browse to the location of the player you want.

If you don't know where the wav files are, do a Find Files search for *.wav and use one of those.
