Excel 2010 password protected workbook "reserved by <username>"

Q: Excel 2010 password protected workbook "reserved by <username>"

I have a user that is having a similar problem to the one described in this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/593620-solved-excel-password-protected-files.html

The difference is that she is having this problem in Excel 2010. I tried navigating to File > Options > General and then removing her name from the 'Username' field, but after saving the workbook, closing Excel and then trying to open the workbook again, she is prompted by Office to enter her name and initials. Even if we delete her information from here and click 'ok' the password prompt comes up (as it should) but still shows '<file name>' is reserved by <user>...

The workbook was originally created as an Excel 97-2003 workbook and apparently has macros; I tried saving it as a .xlsx but had to save it as a macro-enabled .xlsm file. I then tried the same steps to remove her username, but this did not resolve the issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 7200rpm hard drive that shows up as 3 separate partitions on my MacBook Pro desktop. They are "System Reserved", "Untitled 1" and "Untitled". When looking at them in the Disk Utility program, they show up as "System
Reserved",  "disk2s1" and "disk2s3". I can't seem to find a way to wipe the drive and just have 1 partition. I don't need to save anything on it so it can all be deleted and consolidated. Not sure if this helps but the previous
owner told me that he had accidentally erased another partition that prevented the hard drive from being reconsolidated. It also may have been a Windows boot drive. Any help in restoring this hard drive would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a domain joined Surface Pro 2 running 8.1 Pro.
The following GPO settings are in place:

* Assign a default domain for logon

* Do not display last logged on user

* Disable logging in with Microsoft accounts - uses the following registry setting - MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\NoConnectedUser - Value = 3

The end goal is for the machine to boot to the login screen that just displays empty user name and password fields
The problem at the moment is that instead of doing that, the client boots to a screen where the only option is to click on "Other user". Only then does the login screen I want, where they enter their username and password in full, actually appear.
These Surface Pro 2's are to be used by small children, and have the "Other User" screen appear is confusing for them, as well as being very annoying for me. It's completely unnecessary.
I've searched all over the 'net looking for an easy way to get the client to boot straight to the standard domain joined log in screen, but every time it just boots to this "Other User" screen that has to be clicked on in order to get the correct
login screen to come up.
Is there any way I can get this to boot straight to the login screen I want?

Hello there,

As you all know some people use dial up connection. I am one of them. I would like to click my dialup and automatically connect rather than viewing the " Username and password window " as I have saved UN and PW anyway, Basically, I would like to make it fully automatic, now this is the problem as can be seen in the ATTACHMENT.

It shows, lack of options in windows 10 when it comes to tweaking options for dialup. So please help me on how to do it without the help of GUI. As I downloaded and install the same file to install my dialer, I know there has to be a way to " Remove the tickmark from highlighted fields in the above pic "

I can use regedit or stuff like that as I've been in it for awhile, so feel free to suggest me how to solve this problem.

Regards,
Fazy.

Dear Techguys,

I am going mad with frustration today.....

I have just upgraded from XP to windows 7 - transferring my data from my old XP laptop to my newer one that is running windows 7 - by using the "windows easy transfer" facility.

Agreed, transferring is easy aqnd all my data is there it seems. Phew!

However, one of my accounts on the old laptop (call it oldaccount for the purpose here) had a password on it (say 1234) but when I try to logto it on the new laptop for that same account it says "user name or password is incorrect"!

I thought I could get round this problem by going to administrator user and deleting the password for account "oldaccount"- yes, that does get round the prooblem and I can log in to the oldaccount - but of course I no longer have any password securtity on it!

I "thought" "oh, all I need do is now go back into the administrator account and create a password in the new laptop for that "oldaccount" - but when I then try to log into it I get the same error; "the username or password is incorrect".

Can anyone please help me to set up a password for this old user account on my new laptop?

I know from searching the web this is a problem others have encountered but sadly I haven't found anyone who has managed to crack this seemingly simple problem.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Cheers!

This is the third time I'm trying to make this post. This is absurd. What do you have only a minute before you get timed out? This time I saved it to notepad so I can paste it...

I just wrote out about 10 paragraphs only to have it all lost because this site had logged me out before I could submit it. Just another frustration.

Well, I'm not going to sit here and type everything out again. Took me forever. So I'm just going to sum it up.

I keep having the same issue when trying to share data on a Windows 7 network. It's beyond frustrating. In my opinion, Windows 7 network is unintuitive and broken.

Today I had to replace two computers on a clients network. It's a simple small business network where I'm just using a normal computer running Windows 7 to share some data. The problem is that sometimes, at random, a computer will not connect to the share. It will tell me that I have the wrong username and password when the share doesn't require a username or password. I made two identical computers that were set up the exact same way. The first time they both connected to the share just fine. I was shocked and happy as I almost always have the issue I'm describing.

However, I ended up having to reformat one of the machines and set it back up again. I did so the exact same way. This time it won't connect to the network share. It prompts me for a username and password and no matter what I put it will not let me connect. I have been having this issue for a long time h... Read more

Hi, I've just installed Windows 7 Professional on my laptop to discover that none of my VPN connections work any more. I was previously running Windows XP, and have a variety of VPN connections to various clients for remote support. What happens is that no matter which VPN connection I try and connect to, it appears to start connecting and then it reaches the "Verifying Username and Password" stage, and then hangs. I've left it sitting for 20 minutes, and it goes no further than this point. If I try and cancel connecting it makes no difference, and If I right click on the VPN connection in the network connections thing, I only get the option to click on properties, disconnect is greyed out. If I end task the Connecting to network box, it requires a restart of explorer.exe, after which I can then right click on the VPN connection and select disconnect. I've also discovered if I change the settings of a vpn connection then I get an explorer.exe crash and the settings don't apply. Hi AMP7,I have been experiencing exactly the same problem with one of my VPN connenctions (Windows 7 Enterprise build 7600).I have resolved it by explicitly setting the Type of VPN property on Security tab to Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). It seems that when this property is set to Automatic the WAN Miniport defaults to IKEv2 (and gets stuck if this is not the VPN type used). You can both observe and change this for any VPN connection by going to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connection. So I suggest you explicitly set the Type of VPN property to the appropriate value (probably PPTP if no certificates are used but I suppose you already know this).Regards

So I've enabled password protected sharing for Windows 7 (for my first computer).

So now, when I used my second computer to access my first computer's shared files, it obviously prompted me with a password.
My question is, I don't know what's the username and password for that. I was wondering if someone can help me to find my username and password (or guide to reset this password) so my second computer can access the shared files with my first computer while preserving the password security.

A:How To Change The Password On "Password Protected File Sharing"

Use the username and password that you use when you log onto the first computer.

If that does not work, try
user = computername\user
password = password

...where computername = the name of the first computer.

Does anybody know how to get rid of this error message?

A:"Unknown username or bad password"

Hello McDougal, it might be worth trying to turn off "simple file sharing" on the XP pro machines first. This setting can cause problems with seeing other machines and sharing.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

Also go into the Advanced sharing settings and make sure that you have password protected sharing turned off in both the Home-Work and the public file sharing windows. There are two windows under advanced sharing settings.

Next make sure that the time/date is the same on all your machines.

If none of that works then try this registry adjustment.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
set the value to: 1

Hi,

I've recently noticed two entries at the top of the Task Manager which have blank "user name" and "description" fields. The first entry is about 1,300K, and the other is 660K.

When I right click on either, I can select "Perform Administrative Task". If I choose to do so, the blank entries disappear, and the "show processes from all users" box is checked.

I wonder if this is a security issue that Spybot, Windows Defender and AVG Free haven't picked up.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello!

We have shared folder on server that specific users can open it. In that folder there are bunch of excel files that they need to fill in. Problem starts when one user opens the document and starts filling the excel file, in that moment other user opens the same excel file but doesn't get the "file in use" notification. I have that problem for now only on one pc (win7, office 2010 standard + sp1). I tried to reinstall office 2010 and install all the updates but with no solution. Tried to delete all remaining Office folders but this also didn't solve the problem. Excel file on server is in 2003 format. Does anybody had similar problems and knows how to solve it? Thanks

Problem solved. Permissions from the main folder didn't inherit on child folder thus user could open specific file in child folder but couldn't get "file in use" notification. After readding user as domain admin problem was solved.

I want to have my folders such as My Documents, Downloads, etc stored on a separate data partition to the OS, like many people do.  When you go to the properties of the (original) folder and click on the Location tab, what is the difference between

I haven't seemed to find the answer after some time searching, and didn't want to do anything irreversible.

It’s perfectly safe to use ‘Move’ to move the Documents folder to a different location. Navigate to the folder, then right-click it > Properties

Hello, nice peoples that provide so many fixes to make Windows suck less.

I've been looking for hours, but the terms are so general I can't find anything. When I open up Windows Explorer, the "Computer", my profile folder, and the Recycle Bin all appear under "Desktop". Which makes finding things a pain in the butt.

-senselocke

Do Anyone know how to make "VALUE" the default selection instead of "FORMULA" or just how to make replace work? A tweaking for dummies answer would be great.

A:Excel 2010 Find and Replace:Value " as default"

You can use "Match entire cell contents" to exclude formulas.
Say you have 1234.56 in 2 cells.
One is formatted as General, the other is formatted as Comma Style.
If you find by formula, you get 2 results.
If you find by value, you get only 1 result.
Therefore, "in value term", 1234.56 not equals to 1,234.56.
If you are finding a range of values, then you need helper columns or use macro.

Newbie here. I have searched around for a while but have not found a post with my exact situation.

I just installed a new Seagate Momentus 500gb (7200rpm) SATA drive in my Lenovo X61 laptop and have been working on a installation of Windows7 Ultimate.

Not realizing this was an upgrade install disk, I tried to install Win7. I didn't know about the clean install method, so I started over with an installation of WinXP (slipstreamed to deal with the SATA drive).

Next, I ran the Custom Installation upgrade to Win7.

So far, it seems to be working ok.

However, the Local Drive is D: instead of C:. The System Reserved drive in labeled C:. Should I be concerned? Should/Can I change this?

Attached are screenshots of Disk Management and explorer window.

Thank you for any info.
-Nate

A:"System Reserved (C:)" and "Local Disk (D:)" ??

Try removing the System Reserved drive letter in Disk Management to see if Win7 claims C instead. It sometimes works.

There is no reason you can't operate with Win7 as D even though it is meant to always assume the C letter unless it's installer is run from another OS.

But if you do I would not allow a drive letter for SysReserved as programs can write to and corrupt it, especially the ability to make Win7 backup images.

Now that you know you can clean install Win7 without needing XP on the HD, I would strongly consider booting the installer to do a Custom install, choose Drive Options to Delete all partitions, Create new as you wish, then Format before installing to first partition after SysReserved it will create for you. The installer will see an OS at boot to allow use of Upgrade version key upfront during install.

Good day everyone,
I'm looking for an alternative solution for the following code:

Code:

Option Explicit
Public BooleanForClosing As Boolean
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
If BooleanForClosing = False Then
MsgBox "Please using exit button"
Cancel = True
End If
End Sub

I use an Addin to control a series of files. The simple reason is that I do not want to add any vba code to these files and therefore do not want to add the above code in the Thisworkbook,

I have a working code to disable the 'X' to close Excel but am stuck with the individual workbooks, I want the user to always choose the 'Clos Active Workbook' button on my ribbon.

Any suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks.

That's actually a relatively hazardous stunt to pull for mere cosmetic benefit.

A:How to rename "Computer" to "Username on Computername"

Who said is for cosmetic reasons? If you have multiple users who alternate in the usage of a computer it's a very useful tweak. In our company we have used this tweak for years with windows XP and Vista.

I'm having a problem with Windows Explorer. Every time I connect a removable drive, the Folders panel displays a duplicate set of "Shared Documents, <username>'s Documents, and 2 other entries." It even happens when I plug in my phone to charge through the USB port. Basically, it happens when something is connected in the USB port, card reader, removable drive, ect. Please look at my screen shot and you will understand.
I think it has something to do with a Motorola driver I recently uninstalled, but I don't remember which one.
I am using WinXP Pro.

It seems I can't post images.

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the REST queries to work with the sharepoint end points instead of graph end points. I first created an app with relevant permissions and have given it the admin consent. Then I am hitting the https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com/oauth2/token?Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded end
point with https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com as resource. I am then using the access token retrieved to give the rest call to https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/b!3indYSbqZ0-hVSPnCgIZy-2xDMh7jH9AuQnEzJMc6TEfQoSJvJT-R6tT0lFBQiPr/root/delta
but it is failing with "error":{"code":"generalException","message":"General exception while processing"}}. The REST response code is 401 Unauthorized. I have filed a Microsoft support ticket but they
have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.
Thanks,

I am hoping that someone can help me with what may be a complex question.

I have a spreadsheet, similar to the demonstration file I have attached. In it, there are a range of columns. One set of columns (A - D), shows a list of numbers that are references to items in a store, and it also shows their location in the store, so it acts as a floor-plan. The next column (E) lists those items again to show the dollar amount that those items have produced in total sales (F).

So, what I'd like to do is to add a conditional formatting to show me the "cold" and "hot" spots on the floor-plan so I can see where sales are most concentrated. I would assume that this would be done with a colour scale (using the range of values in column F to work itself out)?

Either way, the figures in column F would change weekly, so the relevant cells in columns A - D would need to automatically change when they're matching cells in column E - F change.

I hope this makes sense, as it's difficult to explain, but any help that someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I have a chart in an Excel spreadsheet, and it has several "series" in it. Some of the series are charted as "lines", and some are "areas" that fill in the entire background of anything from 0 to the value I have entered.

I have one particular series that is showing up as an "area" but I want it to be drawn as a "line" instead, so it DOESN'T fill in the area below it. I currently have the "background" as "none", but now I have a line from the last value down to "0", and that's what I want to avoid...

Thanks in advance!
