0x800706BA Unable to connect to the WMI service on the remote machine

Q: 0x800706BA Unable to connect to the WMI service on the remote machine

Issue: I have a Windows 7 client that will not activate via the command slmgr.vbs /ato nor through the Volume Activation Management Tool.

Error: 0x800706BA Unable to connect to the WMI service on the remote machine
Troubleshooting: I have added the workstation via ip address and tried to activate since I read that it could be a DNS issue. I also ran a script that was supposed to repair the WMI. Neither tries fixed it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I would like to know how I can start a system service on a Windows 2000/XP machine(e.g. messenger) from a remote mahines(Windows 2000/XP) without enabling file and print sharing.

Thanks

A:start system service from a remote 2000 machine

Hi ngkeith,

You can use Netmeeting to share the desktop of the remote computer (need administrator priviledges) and you connect with Netmeeting to the remote computer.
You will get the desktop of the remote computer from where you may execute tasks.

I am trying to RD into a machine that I can ping. RD fails with the generic "this computer can't connect to the remote computer" message. I checked and the remote machine does have the "allow other to connect to this machine via RD" checkbox checked. Furthermore I was able to RD to it about a month ago. Not sure what has changed since then. Where should I look? Thanks.

Hey everyone,

I have a Win7 machine that I need to be able to connect to a win2000 machine. Basically if I type into My Computer, \\Servername, I am challenged for a username and password. This is fine but when entering the correct authentication details it keeps coming back to the log in screen.
I did the same thing on a Vista machine, was prompted for username and password, put in the same username and password and got in.
Is there some security option in Win7 I need to tweak?

Thanks,

Hi techguys,

I am running Windows XP SP1, AMD Athlon XP 2600+, with 1GB or RAM. I recently purchased an X-micro bluetooth adapter. What I want to do transfer some freeware applications to my Samsung D500 cellular phone.

I access my Network Connection, and choose to create an advanced connection to another computer directly, using COM5 (the port set aside for bluetooth). When I get to the Network Connection Wizard's Host or Guest Page, I select my computer as host, and I click Next. The computer thinks for a bit, and eventually, I get presented with an error saying "Incoming Connections depends on the Routing and Remote Access service which was unable to start.". I checked the Event Viewer and got this message:

"The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 340 (0x154)."

I have checked on the Internet for solutions, the majority say that I should check that NetBIOS is enabled in my TCP/IP network settings. This I have done, and it is indeed enabled. The problem still persists. I am unsure what other services Routing and Remote Access depends on.

A friend mentioned that it might indeed be a problem with SP1, and that I should reinstall it. This seems a rather drastic solution though.

Would anyone kindly help me with this problem? I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Ducky303

PS: In Event Viewer, I also found another error but I am unsure how it is related to the above problem. The error is for perflib and says:

3- restart your machine it should be working without problem.

This is what happens: On my lan I have my computer I want to connect to and a laptop. From with in the lan I can connect to my computer using RDT from my laptop. I think this is working because my router internally is redirecting even tho I am using the WAN ip address when I am testing it.

I can not connect to my computer via the internet when I am outside my lan. The error I get is 'the client could not establish a connection to the

Any suggestions?

check that your port forward in your router allows wan to lan connection, if the host machine has a firewall running check that the port is open so that it can be accessed from a different ip range and not just from the local range

That error code usually means that the service can't run because you're in Safe Mode.

Please make sure that you're booting to Normal Mode, using MSCONFIG to ensure that you're using 'Normal startup'

MSCONFIG -
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type MSCONFIG and hit the Enter key
the System Configuration utility should come up

In the 'General' tab, make sure that the radio-button against 'Normal startup' is selected, then click Apply, and OK, and reboot.

Hi redwood25,

Welcome to Seven forums.

Please set the service to manual instead of automatic and then start the service and let us know the results.

I believe your system must have come with the Windows preinstalled. So you should be having genuine OEM version of windows on this system.

Please check this link for further troubleshooting the issue:

If the system was working fine earlier then you can also set the system to earlier stage by performing system restore:

So i try to start it up right, i get this message: "Windows could not start the Virtual Disk service on Local Computer Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."

Its a Samsung EVO with 1 TB, i went into the Samsung magician and pressed something so increase maximum performance. I don't know if this had anything to do with it?

It's the first time this happens to me, im so lost.

I am unable to access shared files on a Win 2000 Pro machine from a Win 98 machine. The Microsoft Support site deals with the problem but I get an error message when I attempt the fix to start NetLogon. "Windows could not start the Net Logon on Local Computer .... refer to service specific error code 3095."

Q? Is Net Logon not on W2K Pro?

BACKGROUND (pasted from Microsoft Support site.)

This article was previously published under Q262916
SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect to a Microsoft Windows 2000 computer over the network, you may receive one of the following error messages:

You must supply a password to make this connection:
Resource: \\computername\IPC$

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Netlogon service is not started on the Windows 2000 computer.

RESOLUTION
To connect to the network share, follow these steps:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
2. Right-click the Netlogon icon, and then click Start.

MORE INFORMATION
This issue affects only Windows 9x computers. Computers running Windows NT and/or Windows 2000 are able to connect when the Netlogon service is turned off.

Gringo_Pr,

I am wondering if my system may have gotten a virus.  On boot and attempting to log in I frequently get a message "Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service."  When it does this I get a message that it can't access my profile too.  It then uses the default.

I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malware Bytes and Spybot.  They don't seem to find anything.  But I am not convinced.  In browsing my event viewer - system I see system services that crash and restart.  So, either my machine has a virus or it is starting to fail. :-(

Thanks in advance for taking on another challenge.

Hey everyone, if anyone could provide any information on this issue, i'd greatly appreciate it. My mom's laptop is detecting that our wireless internet connection is active, but it won't actually connect to the internet. When we troubleshoot the issue, it says that our diagnostic policy service isn't running. Since we can't connect to the internet on the laptop, we can't run any updates or perform any virus scans. We've tried manually adding a network service through cmd.exe, and uninstalling the network adapters and restarting the computer. We've also tried to run a system file check, but it doesn't seem to activate. The sfc box just disappears when we try to initiate a scan. I imagine we might have to back up her important files and just reinstall the operating system, but her laptop came with a preinstalled OS, and no discs. We'd be very thankful for any info or suggestions.

See if you are connected to a 'proxy server'

1) Under ?Tools? in the browser tool bar select ?Internet Options?.
2) In the ?Internet Options? window that pops up, click the ?Connections? tab at the top.
3) Click ?LAN Settings? near the bottom of the ?Connections? section.
4) If the ?Proxy server? checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.
5) Click ?Ok? to close the ?Local Area Network (LAN) Settings? window.
6) Click ?Ok? to close the ?Internet Options? window.
Reboot
Make sure "Proxy server" is still disabled under your LAN Settings.
Test whether internet connectivity is restored.

I purchased a new xps13 from dell over two weeks ago.  Currently the laptop is working fine, however, I've tried tried to register the laptop under 'my products' multiple times since receiving the laptop.  Whenever I try to enter the service tag, it keeps giving me an error "Products not found. There’s no match for the Service Tags that were entered."  At first I thought maybe it was because the laptop was new, but it has been 2 weeks now and I'm still getting the same message.
Not only that, but I've been trying to contact dell through email for 2 weeks now and I always get the same "you will get a response in 24hour" reply but nobody ever replies.  I feel like the biggest moron right now because I paid for 3 years of 'premium support' and you won't even answer a freaking email.  I'm pretty close to just returning this laptop and buying a piece of *** macbook because at least apple responds to support requests.

I have used several different programs lately that whenever they try to validate my information from the web, I get an error that the program is "unable to connect to remote server." I removed my anti-virus software and disabled windows firewall, but nothing seems to work. Internet Explorer and Firefox seem to work just fine. The other weird things is that these programs work just fine when I use them on my laptop which is connected to the same router. Thus, the router is not the problem. Since I have the same problem with multiple programs, I'm assuming that there must be something wrong with my windows network settings. I am running Windows XP

Any ideas of what fixes I can try?

The Remote Installation Service enables a TFTP service on the server which by default could allow an anonymous user to potentially overwrite existing operating system files or upload a specially crafted file. This could allow an attacker to compromise operating system installs offered by the RIS server.

Affected Software:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

Hello,
I am attempting to help my father (in his 70's) with his computing. He is running Windows 8 Pro and I am running Windows 10 Home.
We have used Remote Assistance in the past when he had XP.
Since then, We have been using TeamViewer.  He recently got flagged as a commercial  account and they have locked us out.
The Problem
I have checked the appropriate boxes to allow RA invitations and allowed remote access.
I have opened Ports 3389.
He is able to send me the RA invitation and his session is open when we try to connect.
We get a error message that says "Remote Assistance can't make the connection"
"The person you are trying to help might have closed Remote Assistance.  Otherwise, there might be a problem with your Network.  To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Troubleshoot."
The interesting thing is that Remote Desktop works just fine.
Can someone please give us a hand?
This is extremely frustrating!

Thanks

After Windows 8.1 x64 Professional is running for a while, when I go into disk management I get:
"unable to connect with virtual disk service"
Upon reboot it starts working again. I have done an sfc /scannow and it comes up with no errors.
Any suggestions?
This is more than a minor annoyance, when I connect a USB drive it's doesn't map a letter to it and I have to go into disk management to do so. Rebooting each time is costing lost productivity.

This just started. Other symptoms:
Disk Manager: "unable to connect to virtual disk service"
Internet: "Connection Status Unknown, not enough storage is available to complete this operation"
Speakers: "The audio service is not running"
Quick Launch Toolbar: Cannot start Windows Explorer, but other apps ok.

Internet is up and running fine, can still get email and visit web pages.

Yesterday, tried to run VS C# Express for the first time, and could not open a project without getting a error message. So, I ran the following script usin subbinacl:
cd /d "%programfiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

What's happening?

So, I had remote desktop working on my computer for about two years and now it doesn't work anymore. Every time I try to access it from another computer (I don't have and don't know how to get a domain name, so I just use my IP address, which I get from whatismyip.com), I get an error message saying I cannot connect to the remote computer.

As far as I know, I have done everything right. I enabled remote desktop in system properties, I created a static IP address in TCP/IP properties, and I configured my router to forward the default port (3389) to the correct local IP address I specified. I have disabled windows firewall and put mstsc on my list of exceptions for the firewall that I use (BitDefender). I also pinged my IP address and received all packets sent.

I am running windows xp professional with sp3.

Any suggestions?

A:remote desktop problem: cannot connect to remote computer

We have several remote systems that can all connect fine. I am having an issue with one box. It is a windows 7 home premium machine with netgear wireless nic. When I open mstsc to connect to a remote machine I put in the ip address and click on connect. I receive an immediate failure with the text "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again...blah blah"

I have a server 2008 r2 with Network level authentication enabled. I have 8 other systems that are hardwired, at different geographic locations and all connect fine.

I have not made any changes on the server side since this problem seems to be local to this client only.

On the client I have made the following changes/observations. I have disabled the firewall, cleared the remote desktop cache, remove the MRU entries from the registry, verified that port 3389 is open via telnet. I have been bashing my head for days trying to figure out why this one box is not working. The problem occurs for every user on the box including the admin.

I don't receive the box that prompts for warning if there is a server authentication issue but I think that is because I selected ignore at some point and said yes to continue. I'm not sure where that cache resides to delete that selection. I'm not sure if that is where my problem lies or not. Can anyone please assist?

Welcome to SF,

From the Remote computer please try this, if unsuccessful please post back.
Click on Start and type secpol.msc. Then go to Local Security Policy=> Local Policies=> User Rights Assigment=> Choose Allow Log on Locally and select the User or Group that needs to access this computer remotely. Also select Allow Logon to Remote Desktop Services (if you have RDS or Terminal Services configured in your Win08 Server). Try to remote connect after.

Hi,
I've checked here and on a couple of other places; many people seem to have similar problems but not similar enough that I've been able to solve it.

I have a HOME workgroup on my Vista machine that is connected to the printer I want to share. I have made HOME the workgroup on my W7 laptop. The Vista machine is able to access folders on the W7 and the W7 "sees" the Vista machine... the network map on W7 shows a "dotted" line from W7 - Vista but when I try to connect from W7 to Vista it will not accept a logon. I have tried using my normal Vista machine User Name and password and even tried creating a new one just for this connection but Windows Security always says "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password".

One of the other sites suggested that Client for Microsoft Networks needed to be installed on the W7 laptop but when I checked the properties for the W7 NIC there was no Install option... does W7 need Client for Microsoft Networks?

All settings on the Vista Sharing and Discovery are on.

TIA

A:Windows 7 machine cannot connect to Vista machine

I finally figured out that it was Vista machine firewall (AT&T Internet Security Suite by MacAfee) that was blocking the W7 machine from accessing the Vista machine.

After I checked the box in Port and System Services to allow RDP access, I was able to access both the Vista computer and its attached printer from the W7 machine.

After installing an update for QuickBooks it needed to restart the computer. After doing so I could no longer connect to this computer via remote desktop. This computer is a workstation in an Active Directory domain. Remote Desktop Access is controlled by
Group Policy. All other Windows computers in this domain can be accessed via Remote Desktop. This computer can also remote desktop to these other computers. On the settings, Remote Desktop is set to "Allow connections from computers running any version
of Remote Desktop." I've verified the Remote Desktop port is enabled in the firewall. I've taken down the firewall completely. I powered off and back on the computer several times. I've run 'gpupdate /Force'. This computer can access the network, including
shared drives, can access the Internet and can Remote Desktop to other computers. This computer can ping other computers, but other computers cannot ping it. Other computers can no longer mount this computer's shared drive. In case there was some update-culprit
lurking that didn't take effect until I restarted, I rebooted other workstations in the office to see if the same thing would happen. It didn't. Only this computer.
I've spent hours on this and search for all kinds of solutions. I've out of ideas. Anybody?

Hey all,
I am having an issue with a user connected to our local domain. Whenever they try to log in, it keeps displaying "Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service." I have tried multiple ways of addressing it and have
had no luck with a fix for this. I have tried:

Using 'netsh winsock reset'Uninstall and reinstall network adapter driversClean booting and trying to isolate the issue (did not find anything)
Deleting the font cache Tinkering with the service settings Disabling anti-virus and restarting
System Restore
None of these are fixing the issue for my particular system. It always comes back. The hardest part about troubleshooting this issue is how sporadic it is. It happens every other time the user logs in.

The only other fix I have not tried the hotfix they released for this yet. I don't want to install this until I have exhausted all of my options as this could create more problems.
We have 50+ other computers running Windows 7 on this domain with absolutely 0 issues. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Hello All,

I have a situation where I need to map a network drive on a remote server so that a scheduled installation can tale place from the mapped drive. For scheduling the installation I used the Schtasks.exe which has an option to create the scheduled task on a remote machine too using :

Schtasks.exe /create /S <remote computer name>

What I am interested in knowing is if there is any EXE file that can help me map a network drive on a remote computer in the same manner as schtasks.exe as there is no option for doing it in net.exe that is used for mapping a network drive. To avoid confusion let me put up :

machine that I want to map the network drive upon : ABC
Server on which i need to map the network drive upon : XYZ
Network path to be mapped : \\PQR

A:Using Net Use on a remote machine

Hi rahul1911,

The procedure should be possible. Here's a tutorial that may help as it contains additional commands and addresses share issues: How-To Map a Network Drive using Windows 7, Vista or Windows Server 2008.

I hope this helps. If not, check to make sure the server is sharing properly and that permissions are set to allow this to occur (you aren't prohibited from Group Policy or Active Directory) and/or that you are using an appropriate username and/or password if required.

Good luck!

I logged on to my computer as an administrator and my desktop didnt display for about 4 minutes. There was only a black screen with the white mouse arrow on it. When the desktop had loaded a Windows notification
bubble popped up saying:

"Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification
Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the
system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

I don't believe that I have installed any software etc. recently that could have caused this problem to occur. It just randomly happened one day. In sync with this error I am unable to connect to the internet using my 3 mobile modem and my laptop isn't recognising any wireless signals bringing up the message:

"The dependency service or group failed to start"

My laptop is a Philips freevents 12NB5800 which uses vista.
