Find the printer

Q: Find the printer

I bought a Toshiba e-Studio 2540c Digital Copier/Printer for my wireless network. My Linksys EA7400 wireless router has 2 USB ports that I can use and I have a Netgear wireless adapter also. How can I connect the printer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Find the printer

Hi edonchow, and welcome to TSG.

One way to connect the multifunction printer to the router is using an Ethernet cable. If you require a wireless connection, please tell us the exact model number and any hardware version number of your Netgear wireless adapter.

EDIT: By any chance, does your printer have the Toshiba GN-1060 Wireless LAN card installed?

I just downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC XP Mode to be able to run old software (Micrografx Designer) that worked on 32-bit XP.

The installation went fine, also installing Designer in the virtual machine. However, the printer is not found.

When restarting XP with the printer attached to a different port it was still not found.
What to do?
Thank you.
(It's a standalone PC, the printer does not connect via network)

I'm using Adobe Reader 10.1.4 and can't get it to see the laser printer on the network. Previous versions worked OK and Word sees it without a problem. When I try to print a document the print screen shows firstly the default printer which is an inkjet connected via USB and when I click the drop-down all the printers are there except the laser on the network which I want to use.

The printer has been deleted and re-installed several times, is shown on the printer list in the Control panel and being “ready” and works fine with other packages such as Word. I have also deleted and downloaded Acrobat several times restarting the PC in between but still it can’t find that particular printer.

As other PCs see the printer and this one used to, does anyonehave any ideas as to how I can link the two?

To try and help further it is the only printer on the wireless network and if I transfer the pdf document to another PC, it works fine.

Hi, I have an HP printer connected and in working order on my Vistax64 and have it set up to be shared. I'm trying to find it on my Vistax32 laptop over the network but it's not showing up. I've tried using the add printer option to find a wireless or bluetooth printer and going into the printers folder by typing \\(my desktop name) and going into the printer folder but the printer is still never there.

I've tried turning off the password protected sharing option but with no difference. I also have firewalls turned off when I try searching.

Thanks a lot.

A:Printer Sharing - can't find printer

You won't find it under wireless or Blue tooth printers. First make sure the printer is shared and listed in the directory.

Second go to Start---Network---Network and Sharing Center---Make sure Printer sharing and network discovery are both turned on, on both computers. Make sure both computers are connected to a private network not public.

On the computer that the printer is connected to Click Show me all of the shared network folders on this computer. Check to see if your printer is there.

Hi there everyone!

Windows 8 machine sharing printer with 8 and 7 machine.

Under Advanced sharing settins, I've enabled Network sharing in private, public/guest and all networks and disabled password protected sharing. Under printer properties, I have selected to share the printer under the share tab.

On the other machines, nothing shows up. On win 7, I chose to find the printer on the network and when I click the printer's host, I'm prompted for a network username & pass. This is in spite of the fact that I chose to disable password protected sharing is disabled under Advanced sharing settings.

Could someone help me get this figured out? I'd love to have the crew be able to use the printer.

Thanks for your time!

A:Printer sharing: can not find printer

It helps to know the manufacturer and model of the printer. For sharing the printer. You need to go into the Printer properties and select that the printer is shared. Then any computer on the network should see it. As long as the computer that it is physically connected to with a USB cord, is turned on.

You should not need to enter any username or password to connect to a printer. If you have to. Something is screwed up or the Internet Security software you are using is taking over.

I would suggest using a WIFI or Ethernet capable printer. Versus one that requires the computer it is connected to. To be on at all times.

Please turn off (uncheck) the Wordwrap feature in Notepad, by going to Format in the menu bar. It creates the double space effect in the HJT log, and is difficult (or in this case, nearly impossible) to read.

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

Hi Folks!

I am trying to install a printer over a vpn. We use a vpn to remote connect to a server (win2k server)at our main office on IP This server runs a database that we need to be able to print from to a local printer on IP

I had trouble getting the local machines (xp pro) to find the printer (HP 4014n) and had to install the HP network printer wizard onto each machine to get them to find it.

I can ping the printer from the local network (10.0.0.x) and i can remote onto the server and ping the computers on (10.0.0.x) however when i try to ping the printer on it times out. I have tried running the Hp network wizard on the server but it does not find anything on

Will the subnet mask on the printer affect this or will it see the trafic from 192.168.1.x as local because it comes over the vpn?

We currently print to an old printer that is shared via a local machine on drect connect cable however this requires the user to be logged in to share.

I have looked at writing an lmhosts file but there does not appear to be one at present and im a little dubious to create one as the vpn appears to be working fine apart from this single issue.

If anyone has any ideas that would help resolve this your help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Cannot find printer over VPN

I always set up the subnet mask as well on the network printer.
But try this: Press Start Detection button in this post: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic100655.html

A couple of days ago it stopped working on my computer and I kept getting a message "Can't find printer" . Now it stopped functioning on my wife's laptop for the same reason. I uninstalled it from my computer and reinstalled it and at the end of the installation the message "Can't not find printer" came up. I uninstalled it on my wife's laptop, reinstalled it only to get the same message. I know the wireless is working because my wife's laptop using wireless. The wireless light is not longer lit on the printer. Is there some way to get the printer back on wireless. I can't seem to get a response from Epson. Any assistance would be gratefully accepted,

Ever since I upgraded my Mac G4/350 from OS 9.0 to 9.2.2,
I can't get connected to my HP LaserJet 6MP printer. Neither LaserWriter nor HPLaserJet can be selected as the PostScript printer on my "Chooser."

The printer connects via serial cord to AsanteTalk converter that plugs into an AsanteFast PCI 100MBps Fast Ethernet Adapter board installed on the G4.

Using HP driver v.8.3.1, appears to be latest available.

LJ6MP works fine on my Dell PC with parallel cord.

AsanteTalk serial/USB converter and Asante board replaced under warranty.

Have tried everything Mac, Asante, HP suggested to no avail. Any suggestions?

When I purchased my printer (Epson Stylus color 660) 2 years ago, I couldn't get it to work and finally a tech told me how to change to the port it was looking for. In December a virus wiped out my hard drive and I had to reinstall everything. I had the same problem with the printer but fell into how to do it by accident. Somehow, I think I told it to "install USB to parallel port driver" from my Epson CD. That's what I wrote on my cheat sheet but I didn't write how I got to that point so I could. I know I didn't have to go into bios (however you do that!). I have a scanner hooked up in the port right next to the printer port and it works in either port. I got it at the same time as the printer. I had to reinstall windows 98 when my computer said I didn't have windows any more last week. I tried going into settings, printers, device thing that one of you wrote about and changed some things but had to type in USB and it came up as an unknown device. What do I need to do to fix this? Did I mention that I am a novice?

A:Can't find port to printer Again!

I'm not clear from your post whether you are trying to connect the printer directly to the parallel port or to a USB port. In any case, the following link contains some docs that may be helpful:

A:Can't find network printer

If the printer is connected via the network, you'll need the server name and also model of the printer they have, unless you wish to print from your own printer, of which you can obviously manually set-up and install yourself.

You could also go to Control Panel > Printers > File > Add Printer > Next > A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer > Find a printer in the directory.

A:Find Printer network name

Is this a printer that is connected to your network with Ethernet or Wifi, or with a USB cord on that computer or another one? If it is a Network capable printer, it needs to be set with a Static IP. Then when you install the software for the printer, it will ask you how you wish to connect to it. It should appear in the setup and from there the software will install everything and then set it as the Default Printer if you are asked.

The way that you are wanting to do it, is not the proper way and you are trying to reinvent the wheel.

I am the IT guy for a company and I have a user that cannot find an image that she converted to a PDF.
So she hits print and uses the PDF printer, then she gets the save as prompt. She renames the file and saved it to Documents. I assumed she saved it to her local documents folder rather than the network Documents folder. I checked all locations and it could not be found. She also tried to save it to her Desktop and to no avail could not find it. I had her restart her computer and the .pdf is still not found.

What is very odd is when I had her "reprint" the file when she saves the file she is prompted with a warning that a file with that name already exists, and we can see it on the "save as" screen that pops up. I searched her whole computer and cannot find this .pdf

I cannot figure out what is causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got 3 computers on a small wireless network (one is actually wired) and I have a printer connected directly to my linksys router via Ethernet cable. One of my wirelessly connected computers refuses to find the printer. while all others find it just fine.

The problem computer is running windows XP sp2 and in My network places I can see all other computers on the network but not the printer. When I click on add a printer the workgroup will not expand to see the other computers as it does in 'my netwrok places'. When I select the URL option in put in the ip address it says it cannot find printer, name incorecct etc etc....

I can however open a web browser and log into the printer through the web browser and make changes to the printer via the web browser on the problem computer.

What am I missing? please help

A:Can't find networked printer

Top suspect would be a firewall, I'd disable it and see if that changes things.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi guys, today I bought an Epson Workforce 645 multifunction printer, mainly because I wanted to take advantage of the wireless features. I have a couple of laptops in the house most new ones running Windows 7, and one older one with XP.

After setting up the printer on my main desktop computer I went through the laptops and searched for new printers, found it, downloaded drivers automatically and printed test pages not a problem, until i get to the laptop with XP.

I tried control panel, devices and printers, add printer. Then from there I went to wireless or network printer, browse, and it doesn't seem to detect the printer. Even if i try to connect by manually entering the printers IP, or the using the network command to connect through the host computer, it still tells me it cant find or connect to the printer. Follow the directions that came with your new printer. Usually you have to first install the driver from the included disc or their website, then at some point you're instructed to plug the printer in with USB cable and power it up. It should then be recognized in Device Manager and show up in Control Panel/Printers, where you can set it to your default printer.

I have a small office with 6 networked computers and a network printer. As of this morning we got an internet service upgrade (Uverse) and changed from a router to a switch. Everything seems to work fine...

However, one of the computers on the network can no longer see the network printer. This computer connects to the internet and other computers on the network just fine but the printer is invisible. All other computers connect to the printer without issue.

4 of the computers are XP, 2 are Win 7. The computer with the printer connection problem is XP but it doesn't seem like that should be a factor. I have tried the printer troubleshooting and uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver. The printer is invisible to this one computer.

All of this makes no sense to me. Any ideas what to look for?

Modem->Asus RT-AC68W Router->My computer via cat6

My computer automatically detected the printer via the devices and printers utility in windows. My wife's computer couldn't find it. When I tried to manually find it, I got asked a bunch of questions somebody that knows something about networks needs to answer. I am not interested in hooking up to the printer via wireless, wired only.

Any ideas? If so, please don't ask me to give you an IP address or subnet mask or some other networking jargon without telling me how to do it as well since I am an end user, not a network specialist .

A:Computer cannot find network printer

It works now, no idea why but after going running I came back to the computer and did another search. Showed up, go figure.

A:Someone help me to find this update! Hp printer assistant 4.1.104

Here is the support and software update site for the HP Deskjet 3325 printer. I've already checked the software updates for Windows XP and there's no update for the printer assistant.

You shouldn't rely on update scanners because they're not 100% accurate and they tend to display erroneous information. If your printer is working okay, that's the main thing.

Just installed a new dual core pc Vista computer in my home network. Moved the attached printer to the new computer and weeded thru the vista sharing wickets. Set up Public files on the Vista for sharing. The Vista and a slower desktop running XP are cabled to a NETGEAR router. Connected via wireless to the router are a Laptop and Desktop both running Win98 Sec ED. The vista computer shows the Public folder and the printer is fully selected as shared. The Vista can see all the other three computers and read files from their respective shared resources. The Vista prints fine. All three of the other computers can see that that Vista is on the network. Only the XP computer attempts to install and connect to the printer, but attempts to print fail. Norton and Windows Firewall both turned off. None of the three computers can see that the Vista computer has a shared resource named Public. All four computers connect to the Internet properly via the NETGEAR router. Software incompatibility problems or HW bandwidth? The new computer is seriously fast in comparison to the other computers?

I have 2 printers hooked to a desktop running Windows Vista. When I try to add a network printer to the my laptop which runs Windows XP the laptop does not find the printers. It does find the computer name of the Vista computer but when I click on that computer nothing shows up. I do have file and print sharing on and network and workgroup names are the same on both computers.

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

A:Can't find printer on vista through network

Go to your printer properties and make sure you are sharing the printer. Even though file and print sharing turned on you have to share the drive or printer you want to use on the network.

...but not just any printer cable. I need a sort of extnesion cable for my printer. Here's the deal:

I've got a HP2200 LaserJet Printer. For those who own or have seen one before, the printer and USB ports on this thing are actually in a side compartment closed away from the outside, rather than just having normal ports on the back. I want to hook up a print server, or net adapter, up to it. The adapter itself has a Centronics male end on one, and then you hook the net cable up to the adapter and then onto your network. The problem I'm having is that the adapter won't fit into the side compartment with the port. What I need a cable that has a male Centronics port on one end, and a female Centronics port on the other. That way I can hook up the cable and then hook up my adapter/print server on the outside.

It's just that I'm having a hard time finding the cable that I need. I've found male to male ends, and of course anyone can find regular parallel to Centronics printer cables, but the one I'm looking for seems to be a rare commodity. Does anyone have a link for an online store that sells such a cable? I've looked through APC and Belkin's websites, along with most of the major online sellers already, but if anyone has any leads, please lemme know! Thanks!

I have a friend who cannot find her scans! She starts scan, can hear it scanning and it says scan in progress, scan completed, but then cannot find any of the scans, she looked in My Pictures but not there. I use Epson so cannot help her, mine usually asks where the scan should be saved but I cannot understand her printer. She doesn't live near to me so am unable to see the problem first hand. Can you suggest where she should look? Be very grateful, as always, for your help.

I have a Toshiba laptop and just purchased a HP Photosmart wireless printer. My husband set it all up and we used it for awhile, then all of a sudden, when I went to print, I no longer saw the HP Photosmart on the list of printers to chose from. I've tried downloading the CD that came with it, but it keeps saying... Can not find printer. I have a linksys wireless connection, and i DO have a connection to the internet. WHen I go to control panel and printers, the Local Area Network has an X on it!? I'm thinking back, and maybe awhile ago, I was attempting to clean up my computer with all the software, deleting some of my son's games, etc, and may have deleted the W-LAN somewhere?! Can you help me put it back??

A:Help, can't get laptop to find wireless printer?

Go here, and select Start detection

If this does not work then you will need to confirm your printer's IP address

If you do not know this you may need to refer to the manual, or do the following.

Press the wireless button on the printer
Then press the button that scrolls through the options
Until print configuration appears
Then print it
(the above is just an example - as I do not know your printer)

Now you can install the printer through Windows Printers

Go to Control Panel - Printers
Select add printer
Select a local printer (top one) and untick automatically detect
Select create a new port
Select HP ...TCP/IP (if exists) If it doesn't exist select Standard TCP/IP
Printer Name: HP Photosmart
Port Name: (enter your IP address ie <-note this is not it)
And after this not sure - but it's probably: Next then Finish

Now print a test page to the new "HP Photosmart" printer, you just created

Did that work ?
