Import or Export OE mail to Outlook ?

Q: Import or Export OE mail to Outlook ?

Hi.

I've got an old PC running WinXP and I have always used OE 6 on it but I DO have Outlook 2007 loaded onto the same machine.

I want to migrate all my email and address book to my new machine running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

I know I can either IMPORT the emails with Outlook 2007 from OE... OR... I can EXPORT the emails using using OE 6.... correct ?

I read somewhere that if I used the Import function I woul dlose the date/time stamp on my old emails. Is that true ?

So... what is better ? To Import the OE emails thru Outlook and then back the pst up and move it to my new machine.... or us e the Export function on EO to try to export the email to Outlook ?

How about my address book ?

And once I get the email and addresses into Outlook 2007 on my old machine, should I use a Memory stick to move them to the new machine or try to use the Windows Easy Transfer and an easy transfer cable (which I already have) ?

Thanks for any advice.

Tim

Preferred Solution: Import or Export OE mail to Outlook ?

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

How do I Export then Import my inbox/mail, sent mail, & contacts (everything) from one computer to another.

A:Export/Import: Mail/Contacts From Outlook

It all depends on what e-mail program you are using. If you are using outlook then you want to copy your *.pst files and *.pab files. *.pab files is your personal address book. Hopefully you created a *.pst files, this is your personal folders. if not then you can either create one or export it. you can also export your calender too.

Is there a way to export the mail accounts that are setup in an installation of Office 2003 so that they can be imported into another installation of Office 2003 on another computer?

I can export and import the emails using the *.pst file option but this does not seem to export/import the email account settings.

You can try using the Office 2003 Save My Settings wizard. If that doesn't save the account info (I'm not sure it does), then you'll have to look for a paid solution. It should be here: Start \ All Programs \ Microsoft Office \ Microsoft Office Tools \ Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard

I also have same problem, please help.
Here's the problem: when I try to import the messages from the flash drive using File/Import/Messages, select "MS Windows Mail 7" format and navigate to the directory containing the .eml files, I get a "No items match your search" in the import browse window.
I did note that the export format option reads "MS Windows Mail" while the import format option reads "Windows Mail 7". Not sure if that's the issue.

I don't know where I am doing wrong. I checked your document also but I didn't get it. Please help.

A:Windows Mail Export/Import Problem

Hello Robin, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Importing the messages can be tricky. Copy the exported folder to your desktop instead, then try selecting the folder to importing them.

Depending on how many messages (.eml files) you have, you could also just drag and drop the .eml files into your Inbox in Windows Mail to add them back.

Hope this helps,

If you exported them to the thumb drive using the export option and then import them with the import option it should work. (I admit I haven't tried moving emails from the 2011 version on Windows 7 to the 2009 version on XP.)

I want to move some Window Mail emails between computers. I can export them fine selecting "MS Windows Mail" format and they are saved to the destination directory with what appear to be hexadecimal file names with .eml extension. If I move the files to the other PC on a flash drive and click on one of them, it opens perfectly in Windows Mail.

Here's the problem: when I try to import the messages from the flash drive using File/Import/Messages, select "MS Windows Mail 7" format or "MS Outlook Express 6" options, and navigate to the directory containing the .eml files, I get a "No items match your search" in the import browse window. I've tried the MS Exchange and MS Outlook format options, but they error out.

I did note that the export format option reads "MS Windows Mail" while the import format option reads "Windows Mail 7". Not sure if that's the issue.

Anyone have any ideas why the import function can't see the .eml files?

A:Windows Live Mail Export/Import

Windows Mail has an "export" function and you can save the file to Desktop, transfer to USB drive or CD/DVD and then "import" that file to the other computer.

This will work for Contacts and Mail, but I've not been able to get the Message Rules to transfer over easily.

However, I DID find the registry entries where the Message Rules are stored and I transfered those over, but WM ran VERY buggy afterwards, and I would not recommend trying it.

Hi. I have an Acer Extensa 5220. I reformatted my comp today as the hard drive was almost full, but I made sure to back up all my emails. I use Windows Mail with several folders. I exported them all onto a hard drive in a folder with today's date. There were 5 inbox folders in all, 1 sent, and 1 draft. However when importing them back, one of the inbox folders has an error. It shows all the correct senders/time/date etc. but when I go into the content of the email, they all show the same content. Very grateful if anyone can advise if they have seen this issue before, and can possibly offer help or suggestions as there's some important emails I need to get back if at all possible. Thank you.

I've just done a full re-installation of Windows ME on my PC, to overcome deteriorating performance. I backed up data and restored it OK. However, I backed up the Outlook Express 6.0 messages by doing an Outlook Express export into several files, and copying those files back onto the new PC (I suspect now that I should have simply copied the files themselves in Explorer, rather than exporting them).

I have tried to import the messages from these exported files into my now empty Outlook folders. I chose to import from an OE6 Identity, and selected the folder where the files are; the files are all named after the Outlook folders, and have type DBX. The import function shows me the files listed as folders. I select one of them, and the import claims to be successful, but no messages are imported.

I have also tried simply replacing the new empty files with the backed up DBX files, but although Outlook allows me to view these folders, it shows them as empty.

Does anyone know how I can rescue the messages from the exported files?

Hi,

I am currently replacing my old computer with a new one and part of that process is to transfer all of my email messages from my old computer to the new one. I use Windows Live Mail for my mail program. I went to the Microsoft web site and looked at the Help instructions for  Exporting and Importing messages and found it to be very straightforward.

I created an empty folder on USB drive and then proceeded to run the Export procedure. This involved selecting a destination folder for the exported files, and selecting which folders to include in the export operation. Under my primary email address, I have 10 subfolders, in addition to the usual Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc. On the screen where I was asked what format I wanted to use, I selected "Windows Live Mail Format" .On the screen where I am asked which folders that I wanted to Export I selected "All Folders". Then I clicked Next and received a message that the folders had been exported successfully.

I then took the USB drive to the new computer, started Windows Live Mail and then attempted to do the Import operation. I chose to import all folders and then initiated the Import. I got a message that the Import was successful. At the bottom of the account list was a folder that was titled Imported Folders. When I opened it, the only thing that was shown was the Inbox and Deleted Items subfolder, and also the Outbox folder. None of the other folders that I chose to back up were there. Als... Read more

Our sales department currently has to manage two contact lists, one in Excel and one in Outlook. When dealing with thousands of customers, you can see how this can get very time consuming so I'm trying to figure out a way to automate this process somewhat.

The difficulty of this arises because they have unique requirements for column headers so importing is time consuming, and matching data is very time consuming.

My question is, is there a way to export from Outlook to Excel and automatically create the columns (and unique column names), and when needed, import into Outlook automatically putting the data in the right fields.

We use Outlook 2003 in a Exchange server 2003 environment.

If anyone has any other idea's let me know.

This is what I do when I export contacts:

The file exported is MS Outlook Contacts.

I decided to backup (copy) all my folders with messages in Outlook Express 6. I did a Google search and found numerous sites which gave specific instructions for doing this. All, including Microsoft, were basically the same. I exported to my desktop assuming everything would be in one folder, but rather every folder was displayed separately. I created a New Folder and dragged them all into it. I then opened OE6 and found there were no messages at all there. I then followed the suggested procedure for importing back to OE6 and the messages returned. I then deleted the New Folder I had created on the desktop and re-opened OE6. All messages were gone again. I was able to recover most of them (not all) by restoring from the Recycle Bin. I have attempted several times to recover all the messages and restore OE6 to the exact state it was in before I started this process, but could not. I picked a date prior to beginning this and did a System Restore, but it still left all the icons (folders) with messages on the desktop. Every time I would attempt to import these back to OE6, I would loose more messages. I have tried everything I can find information on but with no success. I simply want to get as many of my messages and folders back to OE6 and removed from the desktop. Can you help?

Outlook '07 + Kerio Connector (MS Exchange alternative)

The Kerio service is great. My laptop, my wife's laptop, my wife's desktop and our 2 iPhones remain totally up to date and sync'd over the air with all functions of our separate Outlook programs (email, contacts, appointments, tasks, notes).

There's 1 serious problem with a 'hosted service' I just came across--apparently a function of the system. Previously, maintaining Outlook locally, if you goofed and deleted a task or a contact you could retrieve the form from Outlook's trash. More importantly and to the point, if you saved a task (for example) when you didn't intend to you could always go back to an earlier, locally backed up PST file or image. Not so with the Kerio service--Gone is gone.

The work around is to manually export the PST file from the server using the local Outlook File/Export. From what I'm told, if you tell Kerio to work locally/offline, Kerio keeps all the 'pst' data in various Kerio files. So the even though you're Exporting the PST file, you do so online, through your local Outlook when creates a local PST file from the Kerio servers.

So the (my) problem is with the apparent rigidity of Outlook's export function...listed as follows:

1. Outlook's default export name is Backup.pst. On one of the screens you're asked whether to delete the existing, something else and the one I thought would serve my purpose "allow duplicate items to be created". I would have thought that Outlook would ... Read more

Hi, everyone!

I'm importing my Outlook files to a new laptop and have my .pst files transferred. My question is, did this also transfer my Rules that I created on the old laptop, and did that transfer the email addresses that I had added to my Junk / Block list?

If not, can you tell me in laymen's terms how to accomplish that? In my job as an internet researcher and marketer, I get a TON of junk and would hate for these to start pouring into my inbox after spending countless accumulated hours clicking "Actions - Junk Mail - Add Sender to Blocked List"!!

Got an Acer with Vista & Windows Mail -- my old Dell had XP Pro and Outlook. My next strategy is to go into my old computer and edit folders or do a few partial backups so I get a small enough file(s) to attach to email.

I?m in the process of building up a new desktop system in parallel with my current desktop system, which is still being actively used until the new system is ready. I?m upgrading the new system to Windows 7 Professional x64 from the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 currently installed on the old active desktop system. Other than that change, I?m re-installing and re-activating all the software from the old system onto the new system.
My question concerns Outlook 2010. Since Microsoft took away their simple email client, Windows Mail, I?ve been forced to use Outlook 2010 for my personal home use. Over time, by hiding this function and re-arranging that, I?ve been able to simplify the Outlook GUI to a tolerable level for my personal home use. Of course, when I re-installed Office Professional 2010 Plus with Outlook on the new system, all the useless (for me) bells and whistles are back and I have to also set up my email accounts all over again.
I know how to export and import all my email and Address Book data, but is there any relatively simple way to export from the old system and import to the new system all the GUI and email account settings so Outlook will look and act exactly the same on the new system at first use without any tinkering?

An issue with one yesterday on Win8.1 and its Mail was that for ease it worked best to have a Microsoft account such as Hotmail.com or Outlook.com so I removed that tile and setup Windows Live Mail to use with his local ISP account. Now if you are confused by names, join the crowd, Microsoft seems to love confusing us like they did with Works and Works Suite.

I have an Windows (Vista) notebook with outlook 2007, and now I have an new notebook with Windows 8.1. Where I want to export my mail & contact to Windows live mail, how can I import this in WLM on my other notebook?

I already have configure my mail on WLM where I can receive and send messages. I tried something with the program Mailstore 8 but my mail is now on another computer.

I also find this link: how to export mail, calendar contact in outlook to windows live mail clientWith the "Outlook Conversion Application" solution but is this possible on different computers and has WLM an import function?

A:Export mail and contacts from Outlook 2007 to Windows live mail 2012?

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

I been using Outlook 2003 for 5-6 years and have about 4000 Outlook e-mails saved including a folder which contains all my purchased software serial numbers. I carefully exported all my Outlook 2003 e-mails before switching to Windows mail. I have discovered to my dismay, that Windows mail can not import Outlook mail and somehow in the process of installing Windows mail, my Outlook 2003 program disappeared. My old 2003Student and Teacher Office disk which contained the Outlook 2003 software is too scratched to reinstall. I have looked for some kind of Outlook to Windows Mail converter from Microsoft; but no luck so far. I am absolutely amazed that Microsoft would publish a new mail program and not include import routines for its own legacy mail programs. Outlook 2007 apparently has the same problem with Windows Mail. Even if I purchase a replaacement disk from Microsoft ( I have the orginal box and serial number for my Student and Teacher Office package, so I thick I could still get a replacement disk), I would still have to use two e-mail programs and eventually Outlook 2003 would stop working with some future OS upgrade). Any suggestions??

Old computer was running Windows XP and is now toast. It no longer runs; but, we have backed up the Outlook Express DBX files and they are accessible from a USB drive attached to the new computer.

New computer is running Windows 7. How do we import those DBX files into Windows 7 Live Mail?

All the instructions I've found in a Google search so far tell us to click "File" on the menu bar; but, there is no "File" item on the Windows 7 Live Mail menu bar.

Hi,
can anyone give me a step by step description, how i can export my Emails and the Address book from Outlook Express 6 to another Computer which runs also Outlook Express 6?
I tried already to export the Address book but it only allows me to export it as a *.csv-File and after i put the data on my usb stick and try to import it on my new computer by File - Import - Addressbook, the program keeps asking me for a *.wab-File? (btw: i can only use the: "Text File (Comma Separated Values))" Option, when exporting the address book.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

Has anyone a really step-by-step description how to do this??

Thank you very much in advance for your help

greets

A:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

Hi, I just got a new laptop and I'm trying to export/import my address book from Outlook Express. When I import the addresses it only imports individual names and not "groups." It there a way to import groups as well? When I exported the address book from the old laptop I used the "text file (comma separated values)" option. Is this the right one to use?
Thanks.

Bob

A:"Outlook Express" Export/Import Address Book

Hi 2praisehim

No, it will not Export the Groups, you will need to recreate them.
The .csv file is the best backup, this format makes it available to Import to other programs.

As an alternative, you can make a copy of the .wab file and copy it over to the new computer.
To find the location of the original Address Book,
Open the Address Book in Outlook Express:
Tools > About Address Book
The directory will appear along with the name of the .wab file, which usually is the User Account name.wab

Navigate to that directory and copy the .wab file.
Copy the .wab file to the Desktop on the laptop,
find the location of the Address Book for Outlook Express,
Check this directory on the Laptop,
C:\Documents and Settings\User Account\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\User Account.wab
rename the .wab file to User Account.wab.old
Copy the backup .wab file to that directory and rename it to the same name as the current .wab file: User Account.wab

In Outlook Express, click the Address Book icon to open, the replaced Address Book should appear.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

Folks I have read the MS tech notes on how to get Outlook 2003 [I have it via Office 2003 Professional, full install] to import from OE6. It fails under either option: import from "another program" or "Import Internet Mail....". Under the former it is pointed to the correct folder, but fails with Error: Cannot open,.. another program in use" but there's not... I tried copying the folder to a nice clean location on the C: and checked all the properties, nothing interfering, still won't open the folder.
Under the latter option it just doesn't do anything after directing it to the correct folder. Seems to accept the command, closes the window, but does not import anything. No error messages.

Umm.... do MS teams communicate with one another??

Closely related: If I could just get the FOLDERS I had setup it would be a great asset, or if i could just get the ADDRESS book it would help. Do you know how to import *.dbx folders into Outlook 2003? Or the old outlook Express address Book?

thx

A:Outlook 2003 Will Not Import Outlook Express folders, mail, anything

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.
Mike

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

I have a user who has been mandated to switch to our corporate Exchange server and Microsoft Oulook. I was able to convert the address book over with no problems, but I'm struggling with the mail. Is there a way to export messages from Thunderbird (1.0.5) to Outlook 2000? If not, we're going to have him upgraded to Outlook 2003 in the next week or so (hopefully), and I'm hoping it will make the transition that much easier.

From what I've read, Thunderbird doesn't have a true "export" function, that it leaves it up to the importing application. However, I have found no way to tell Outlook where to look for the mail files (which in Thunderbird have "no extension").

Any help? Thanks in advance.
