Adapter Dell PA-1900-02D, three prone angled wall plug

Q: Adapter Dell PA-1900-02D, three prone angled wall plug

Wall plug was damaged during an incident of unauthorized use by one of my resident knuckleheads. The plug was snatched out of the wall but ground prong did not come with it. I would like to repair vs. replace sincere ordinarily this is such a simple fix. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with DELLs or their vendor's choice of wiring colors. So I'm not sure where each of the purple, blue and yellow conductors should be landed on the replacement plug.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell D800 laptop stop working.

When I plug the ac-adapter the power light goes off on the adapter. It is obvious short on the motherboard. I did took it apart and look for some problem around DC-jack, but I don't think the problem is there. All the accessories are off . It is only mobo now by it self and does same thing. Anybody knows where I should look for the short. Which chip or diode it could be? I heard it is very common problem with D800 and D600 models. Since I am pretty good with soldering I think, and it is my hobby as well I would like to repair the mobo my self instead replace. Definitely would be much cheaper as well.

Thanks in advance for any input on this matter.

A:Dell D800 AC adapter turns off when plug in

Some laptops have a separate internal DC converter, and some DC converters are part of the motherboard. If you haven't tried another AC adapter, I would do that first. After replacing the AC adapter, check the DC jack for a high resistance using a good multimeter... A normal resistance would be around a half Meg ohm. If the internals are shorted, the resistance would be much lower. Unless you have the skill and tools to do surface mount soldering, I wouldn't attempt a repair

As the title says, has anyone got this feature working?
It can be enabled in the BIOS under Power Management - using latest FW version (1.5.0).
I have enabled it and when inserting the AC adapter plug when the laptop is OFF, the front white LED turns on for a second or two and then goes off - laptop does not power on.
My goal is to be able to turn the laptop on from power off without opening it :)
Thanks.

Hey guys.
So I like to think I'm pretty good with PCs considering i do the maintenance on my own whenever I need to. However, this computer is pretty new, about a week old. But I noticed that half the time, when i plug in my adpater to charge my laptop while I'm using it, it goes to sleep. I know it's asleep because (a) the fan stops running and (b) it's woken up quickly using typical methods to wake a computer.
Anyone got a clue about how to prevent it from auto-sleeping?
Thanks!

Hi all,
This is probably the dumb question of the month but here goes: Currently I have an old APC backup that is plugged into an outlet behind a ton of cabinetry and is nearly impossible to get at. I`ve just bought a new APC and am wondering if I can plug it into the old one instead of the nearly mission impossible of trying to access the wall plug. Could this affect the new APC in any way? Thanks for any and all responses.

I have experienced this problem twice and am very confused about why it is occuring.  I usually use my W520 laptop on a docking station and when I am at home or travelling I keep it powered by with a wall adapter.  So at work it stays charged and operating from the docking station (i.e. ports on the bottom of the laptop).  When I am at home it stays charged by pulling it in using the Lenovo (170W power adapter). Last year I was in China working and all of a sudden my laptop would no longer charge and would shutdown when the battery died) with the wall adapter.  I ended up buying a docking station and managed to keep it charged and operating that way.  Obtaining any type of warranty service in China was a major pain but the problem was diagnosed to be an issue with my motherboard.  I returned to Canada and had my computer replaced (computer was about 3 months old). Now I am back in Canada and have the same problem with my new replacement laptop.  I am puzzled why this keeps happening.  Has this occured with anyone else?  Is the plug on the W520 not very good quality?  Any thoughts or suggestions will be super appreciated.

In a hasty move, my power adapter was separated from the OneTouch,
and now I am having difficulty identifying the correct one for my drive.

Often the specs are printed on the exterior of the peripheral as well as the Wall Wart... and that makes matching easy...
But Maxtor did not do this with the drive.
And, I have not been able to complete the process of elimination... (more wall warts than peripherals)

So ... Does anyone here know the specs?
(Voltage, and Amps (or mA), and whether it is positive or negative at the center?)
I have searched in vain with Google... and (maybe I overlooked it, but) could not find it by trying to go to Maxtor...

Again, this is for a Maxtor, OneTouch 4Plus (500GB)

I know it has been a while for this journey of realization of what a lemon I purchased. But, after a couple of years I have finally reached that realization.
First, always had issues from my wireless from day one, Would disconnect randomly. And two weeks after my warranty expired it completely died. Good job Dell!  I bet you all planned that perfectly. I have been using USB wireless since then.
Next, after installing Windows 10 I came to the realization that after trying to get Cortana to work neither my microphone or camera were recognize as exiting.   Probably, never worked or went bad the same time as the wireless.  I, guess not knowing is on me.  I never tried using the camera or microphone prior to that because I had no reason to and now I have no ability to do so even if I wanted to.
Next, my keyboard keys started falling apart.  If I was a gamer I would assume they keyboard would take more damage from all that punching.  But, I am not a gamer on my laptop (not be any measurable number)  and see no reason for keys to be deteriorating.  I find it strange that the whole Q,W, A, Z and space bar and others are falling off or becoming less tactile and responsive now at the same time.
Finally, last week I came back from a trip.  I had left my laptop at home and found that while I was gone the laptop casing on the front right and left both split open (separated out quite visible from the top half).  Several front screws attachi... Read more

I have acquired a Dell Optiplex GXI computer to build a SmoothWall but it has no hard drive. I have a 40 GB HD that I pulled out of a Dell 8200. It has a complete XP operating sys. on it. Will I be able to use it in the GXI?

A:Dell Optiplex GXI Smooth Wall

Windows won't likely boot up since Windows XP doesn't like to be moved from one system to another - but for you that doesn't matter because you will need to wipe the hard drive and install Smoothwall on it anyways. But the drive you should be able to use. The GX1's are pretty decent, but old computers, and I believe it will support a 40GB drive. You will likely need to update the BIOS, you can get the latest BIOS from the DELL website. It goes on a floppy.

Hello all,

Please help, she is driving me mad x

A:Cannot plug A/C adapter in, please help

Which laptop model is it (get the info from the label on the bottom, not the bezel or plastic near the screen.
The adapter plug can be repaired by a skilled technician... but the cost is often as high as $175... the cost of a new motherboard. The part itself is sold by HP for about $40 from their "support" center, but should really only be about $6.00 on eBay. The trick is the soldering, which require skill and a lot of experience.
When we know your model numbers from the bottom sticker, we can perhaps be of more help.
It would also be helpful to know the city near where you live that might have technicians.

There is a simple resolution. Dell has not provided the @malkboy explanation to it phone support, engineering, tech, Terry_B or its partners.
Dell has not made an official statement regadring the design, the problem or a fix. Until then we can assume its a problem because we the customers don't like it.
@melkboy - were it the case that this is the design to prevent the cost of replacing a motherboard, etc., then Dell should so say. As it is Dell has burdened the cost of replacing my XPS17 2x, sending me an XPS 15, providing a daughterboard repalcement, 3x a new powercord and my loyalty and business. I have BEGGED to peak to someone with knowledge and no one has come forward to make your explanation.
@Terry_B has provided the best communication and there has been no communication from him to this effect.
Its a bad design, Dell's intent was not to prevent damage from tripping. Dell is running away from its customers and this problem.

Things were ok before the installation as for me to download from a program such which requires opening of ports, i was easily able to through the router firewall. It now seems i have to do this using Kaspersky also?

Now, that seems ok until i see so many options. I see "Rules for applications", "Rules for packet filtering" and "Zones". The first two contain similar sort of rules.

How do i go around configuring this if i want to download using mIRC for example. Could someone please provide a step by step on what ports i should be using first of all for downloading using DCC and how do i confgire Kaspersky along with that.

I am traveling to Hong Kong in a couple of months. My HP laptop is from the US. It has an external power brick that takes 100-240V.

My question is about the cord that goes from the power brick to the wall outlet. The cord has a US plug. Does the cord also take 100-240V and I just need to buy a plug adapter, or does the cord only take US voltage and I need to buy a new cord?

A:Buy plug adapter or new power cord for travel?

You just need a plug adaptor, the power brick and the cord itself already supports International Voltages (worldwide)

(e.g. Hong Kong uses 50 Hz, 200/220 V, so you're pretty much covered there.)

Hi. Often, not always, when I plug in a USB device to one of the external USB ports on my desktop, my (already plugged in, and working) USB wireless adapter stops working. I lose my wireless Internet connection, and I have to reset it - either manually by unplugging it and re-inserting it, or via Windows' troubleshooting wizard. Is there either a way to stop this from happening completely (preferred, of course), or is there at least a quicker way of resetting it - like a quick program on the desktop I can run - I can even code it in Visual Studio (2013) if needed). I'm assuming that the USB ports are somehow shared and conflicting? FWIW, I have 6 USB ports on the back of the machine, plus a single one on the front access panel. Win 7 Ultimate x86, 3 Gig, no errors/conflicts under Device Manager\USB controllers. Any help is appreciated. Further info upon request....

A:Wireless adapter needs resetting when I plug in a USB device

Hello JDGiants. Welcome to the forum.

Does this behavior happen no matter what port you plug the USB stick into? Even the one on the front access panel?

If this were a power problem then it would make sense that it occurs when two or more devices are drawing power from one USB controller on the motherboard.
USB2.0 can have up to 4 ports on one controller, so I'm guessing that at least 2 ports in the back are on a separate controller. By trying the wireless device in all the different ports you may be able to come up with a pattern.

You might also try experimenting with the keyboard and mouse disconnected. Report back what you find.

Hi
We recently purchased 4 Optiplex 7050 Mini Towers and 4 QLogic 57810 Dual Port 10Gb Direct Attach/SFP+ adapters. After I installed the Qlogic network adapter to the PCI-E x16 slot, POST failed when power on. The power light flash in yellow but no video output. I tried to use other PCI-E 8X card but the same result. A PCI-E 4x data acquisition card works find in both PCI-E slots (16x and 4x).
It seems the system considered the net network adapter as video card and thus no video output from build-in video card. Also, failed to check and init hardware.
Please correct me if I am wrong and could you advise any possible solutions such changing BIOS setup?
Many thanks

A:POST failed when plug in PCI-E 8X network adapter

Try this, with that card removed from x16 slot, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup.
Look for the Primary Display option and make sure it's set it to Intel HD Graphics, not to AUTO. Save the change and exit setup. Allow PC to boot and confirm that the onboard video is working. Then power off, unplug, and press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Now install that card in the x16 slot. Close up and reboot.
If that works, keep in mind that every time BIOS is reset to the defaults, eg to clear an error when the motherboard battery is removed,  you'll have to remove the add-in card, change the Primary Display option again...
If that doesn't work, you're probably out of luck using that card in the x16 slot.

a little bit of background first. i no longer have a battery for my laptop. i can only use it when the adapter is plugged into it. yesterday i tried turning it on, but it doesnt. this morning i tried turning it on again and it turned on, for a few seconds then it died. after a few frustrating tries, i noticed that the AC adapter light would blink on and off, like it wasnt supplying power to my laptop. and because my laptop no longer has a battery, it dies. i tried to plug the adapter to another socket because i thought it was a grounded socket issue, but the same thing happens. a friend of mine suggested that it may be the radeon video card that i had got somehow fried or overheated or something, so we tried uninstalling it(yes, there was a time it stayed on long enough for me to log in and uninstall my video card). sometimes it would take 5 seconds for the AC adapter light to blink and die, sometimes it takes 5 minutes or so. after uninstalling my video card, the same thing still happens. when i turn it on, sometimes it only takes a couple of seconds before it dies. sometimes, even if i dont turn it on, the AC adapter light would go on and off, like there was something disrupting the flow of electricity from my socket to my AC adapter to my laptop that causes the light to blink on and off very fast. could it be a power supply issue?

The jacks (or plugs? not sure of the name for it) on old headphones, some microphones, guitar cables etc... are big, as compared to most headphones you find nowadays, which have small jacks. Now, is there an adapter I can get to make the old big jacks fit into the new smaller sockets, if so, what does it look like/what is it called?

Thanks, and sorry once again for the infuriatingly vague post.

Hi I'm using an Advent 7111 Laptop using Windows XP Media Centre SP2.
I have an Orange Livebox wireless router (formerly Wanandoo I believe) and I can connect wirelessly on my laptop just fine when it is running on just the battery. As soon as I plug in the power adaptor/charger, the wireless connection disconnects. When I hover the cursor over the wireless connection logo in the bottom right corner (system tray i think it's called) it says the connection strength is excellent!? But even when it says it is excellent strength I still can't sign to Windows Live Messenger or surf the web! Please reply ASAP please!!!

A:Wireless network diconnects when I plug in the power adapter/charger!?

I did that to myself once when I carelessly put the power supply too near the wireless adapter.

If your power supply is not within inches of the adapter, and not in the direct path between router and adapter's antenna I'd guess you have a serious problem with the power supply or with the overall wiring in your house. Try plugging into the same outlet as the router.

Hi there, I have a Lenovo Flex 3-1580 Laptop. Last week, this just started happening, when I plug in the power adapter, the screen brightness goes up and down by itself for about a minute or two and then stops. The laptop doesn?t charge the battery. I tried a different power adapter and cable but did the same thing. Is this a battery issue or a laptop hardware issue?

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

Welcome to TSF.

That's not good. That's the main reason we tell users not to use this program on their own since it can cause damage. Do you have an older log of what you had before you did the fixes? If not, tell us what you fixed if you can remember.

Post your new log you have now and we'll take a look at it. What firewall program are you using?

What are the infection stats on XP pro as compared to other Win Ops?
I'm going to Pro soon for the server. Any compat issues to watch for?

Thanks

A:Win XP Pro, Infection prone?

Alot of people seem to have problems...I have been running mine for nearly 2 years now without a glitch. A virus every now and then, as long as you stay updated with a virus scanner you should be fine. Maintain windows updates as they will patch major problems. Use firefox so you can avoid spyware and whatnot, and you should be fine.

SP2 has had problems, if you slipstream windows on a cd with sp2 already in it, the installation is supposed to go a lot smoother. Again I've never had a problem with sp2, but you know what they say "to err is human, to really foul things up you need a computer"

In all, if you know what you're doing you should be just fine.

Unless the browser you're using has built in options to control the content shown then you'll probably need to install a filter. K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filter and Parental Control Software | Free Internet Filtering and Parental Controls Software is quite a good option.
