[SOLVED] Remember Usernames and Passwords

Q: [SOLVED] Remember Usernames and Passwords

Only one website doesn`t remember Username/Password. All others like this forum and sites other than forums remember. The site in question doesn`t even offer to remember like others do with a box to tick. Sometimes i go to this site and click on the login box and occassionally the email address will appear, then the password, but most times i have to type in the Username and then the password will appear. I`m using Firefox 6 on desktop computer Windows XP. What do you think please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well my Firefox cannot save passwords from anywhere at the moment which is weird. I do not have clear private data on and when I did I didn't check saved passwords.

Is this the work of mal-ware or something

I have changed things in the config, Just to make fire fox faster but maybe itts the http plugin proxy option that I made true?

If anyone can find me a fix i'd appreciate it!

A:Cannot remember passwords and usernames?

I see that you have a HJT log properly posted, here, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Heres the thing: I have a really hard time remembering my usernames/email accounts (yes.. even certain email accounts) and passwords.
So I was wondering if anyone knew of any freeware that could do this for me.
It has to be a clean program (even though I know you guys woudnt lead me to downloading malware) but still can never be to sure ay ;)
It'd be even better if you've had some experience with the program so I can find out what its like form others personal experience

By the way, I know I could configure my browser to do this but I dont like that idea for some reason..

Hello, I'm new to this forum, not even sure if I'm posting this question in the correct place, if not, would someone please put it where it really belongs?

I have searched the internet for an answer to this question and problem, could somebody please help me or point me in the right direction?

Each time I login to a web that I've already published, to edit, change something, etc. I am prompted from the server for my "username and password". I promptly put them in and tic the box to save this information. I do my edits, etc., then close out the web. Every time I return to this web site to log back on,,,I'm prompted with the very same thing,,,,asking for the "username and password"...heck,,,I'd just put it in there maybe 15 minutes before...Why doesn't my FrontPage 2002 remember my username and passwords to my published webs? Is there something in FrontPage that I need to change/fix/delete/pull my hair out???

Someone told me that it had to do with my Outlook Express??? I ain't got a clue, and I'm sure hoping that someone in this forum can give me an answer.

Thank you so much for your help and consideration. Judy - Tennessee

I am forced to use a work-around program to remember passwords, but that should not be necessary if the basic system were operating normally. I suspect there is some missing or corrupted file within the OS that governs password memory, but I don't know what it might be or where to look for it. I have Windows XP Home Edition and use Firefox to browse the web. On many websites, like this one, my password is saved so I just click login when I go to the site... For other websites, Firefox does not give me the option to "Remember" password... I am relatively sure that I did not click "Never for this site" at any time for these sites (such as Yahoo!), but in case I did, is there a way to erase these preferences? Is there any other reason that Firefox wouldn't prompt me to "Remember" a password for a particular site?

A:Solved: How to make Firefox remember passwords

You check the box where you login at to remember password and then a box pops up and you click remember for this site or something like that. But this site and some others that are Powered by vBulletin it will not bring up the password manager so your have to login each time you come here if you don't keep the cookies for this site.
Then a site may need JavaScript to be running to bring things up to remember you.
You can go to tools, options, privacy and check the setting button and make sure the save passwords box is unchecked.
Then go to tools, options, security tab and put a checkmark in the "Remember passwords for sites" box and click OK. Also click the exceptions button and look to see what sites are listed because they are the site you said "Never for this site" so then those sites will never ask you again so if you delete any sites from there then click the remember me when you login it will bring the box up again so you can say alway remember this site.

Hello I have two issues. These issues occurred after I had to clean my PC from malware (with tetonbob, these forums). During the cleaning process many files were found to be corrupt and the system automatically fixed/deleted them. As a result I had to install a new version of Outlook, and moved from using Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2007.

Issue 1:
I use FF as my primary browser. It will not remember my passwords. during the malware session we went through the process outlined below and nothing changed. Note: IE passwords are not being remembered either.

Issue 2:
Now that I installed a Outlook 2007 clicking on a link in an email opens IE. I tried this process that I found online:

1. Launch My Computer or Windows Explorer.
2. Choose menu 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options'
3. Click the 'File Types' tab.
4. Scroll down to find 'URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol' (under the File Types column) and make sure it's highlighted.
5. Click the 'Advanced' button.
6. In the 'Actions' box make sure that 'open' is highlighted (click on it if necessary)
7. Click the 'Edit' button.
8. Uncheck 'Use DDE', click the Browse button and browse to Firefox.exe on your system, and click OK. [Updated for clarification, sorry about the earlier omission.] If you get a "file not found" message, browse to Firefox.exe and click OK.
9. The path to Firefox.exe should now appear in the 'Application used to perform this action' box.

I'll see if I can review your problem a little more thoroughly later today (heading to work now), but I would like some information.
Open a new tab, type about:config into the URL bar then press return.
Agree to be careful when Firefox asks (you won't change anything, so this will be safe).
In the filter bar, type password.
Four items should show up. Right-click on security.password_lifetime and select copy when the contextual menu shows up.
Paste that in a new reply to this thread.

I highly recommend NOT changing anything if you are unsure of what you are doing. Simply looking at the config and copying items will be fine, but you need to be very careful when modifying the configuration.

I used to be an avid user of Netscape, and then when it disappeared for awhile reluctantly went to IE which we also use at work. So I have become used to it and actually like it (I know, I know). I have tried Opera, and Firefox, Both are excellent browsers but I still prefer IE now. Is there a way to get IE to remember your user name and passwords for a web site like Opera, and Firefox will do? I love that feature of those programs.
I do use and as I type this am using Firefox, but I just like IE.

By the way this is an excellent web site, I have been reading these forums for an hour and a half and didn't even realize it.

I prefer IE as well, and I've tried all the alternatives. You can add a new 'skin' to IE which gives it a new look, tabbed browsing, and an 'autologin' button for sites you've registered with. The skin is called 'SlimBrowser' (it doesn't 'kill' the normal IE interface or the original IE icon, so you still can use the 'plain' IE if you want anytime): http://www.flashpeak.com/sbrowser/Give it a try -- oh, and it's free.

I have IE9 running in Win7 Ultimate.

As it is a private computer I always check "Remember Me" when I log into forums etc. (including this one).

But it keeps on forgetting and I often have to log in manually - at my age I can't instantly remember login details

Is this a common issue, and how can I overcome it? It did not seem to happen (at least nowhere near as often) with Ie8 in WinXP.

A:IE9 keeps forgetting usernames, passwords

Does it make you log back in? Or does it forget the Auto Fill in part? If you have to log back in everytime, it means that IE9 is dumping your cookies. I am not sure if you are familiar with browsers, but cookies are small pieces of data stored in your browser, telling the website your identity, so you are "remembered" for next time. IE9 might be set to dump browsing history and cookies every time you close your browser. Your settings can also be configured to not accept any cookies, which won't allow the "remember me" function to work.

The other issue is the Auto Fill or Auto Complete, (whatever IE9 calls it, it's different name for every browser.) I have this happen to me all the time. I have IE9 set to remember forms, username and passwords, and sometimes, it won't automatically fill in my credentials when I select the username or password box on websites. This is a common issue with IE I think.

I noticed about a month ago that MSN stopped saving my password and username, I thought perhaps it was some new upgrade to MSN screwing it up. Later after some research I found out its possible that its a Windows Profile issue.

Then about a week ago I realized that Windows was no longer saving my passwords, or my usernames. Which is a nice feature for junk email accounts.

I also noticed that Internet Explorer 7 gets hung up a lot. I'll double click it, and its just a white blank page that never loads. So I have to X out, and open it up again.

I ran SpyBot, Adaware, and Malwarebytes this morning. Each found normal common junk, I removed it as usual. The only one I can recall off the top of my head is that Adaware found Win32TrojanMidgare, after it was removed I noticed Malwarebyets had been uninstalled. So I had to reinstall it.

I'm not sure if the computer is infected with something, or my windows user account is messed up or what.

I read on another forum to create a new windows account and use that, I tried, but NONE of my stuff is on that username, and I don't even know how to begin to transfer all the stuff and settings. It seems like I'd lose stuff, and thats not an option, I run a website and everythings on my main username.

So, anyhelp would be great.

I have always been  paranoid about accidentally losing all my password data. It would be a disaster if this ever happened. My whole web world would fall apart.
I have surfed the web on this and read a few solutions using small programs, but cannot say I  am too happy with any of them. They seem too complicated.
I only have my C-drive, no discs or any secondary backup. So my need is to copy all my password data and place it a special folder, so that hopefully if a disaster does happen, all this data can be easily imported back into the Chrome Saved Password Settings.
Is this copy/paste or importation of such data possible ? If not, what is your proposed best and easy solution ?
PS - LastPass is a Chrome extension that  seems highly recommended and the write up is good. But who then autu-fills the names and passwords - LastPass or Chrome ? Will there be an auto-fill  conflict between the two sources ?.

A:How Can Chrome Usernames and Passwords be Backed Up ?

It is looking rather like there is no password backup in existence for Chrome, so if you lose them, you lose them - gone. Just make sure you don`t.
I tried LastPass. No use at all. I  expected LP to import my existing password data and then continue saving and filling, a kind of relay take-over job. I was disappointed, no importation of existing data, no continuation, they expect you to re-invent the wheel and start loading your data manually from scratch onto a blank sheet !
Not wishing to go back 10 years and with Chrome providing an impeccable automated and faultless password service, I had no intention of going back to a hammer and chisel, so I dumped LastPass as being useless.
All I want is a progressive duplicated backup to my password data as listed in the Chrome Settings. As of now, it looks as if 2014 has not yet generated such a simple need.
Password data is very easily lost. For example, Click & Clean, a Chrome extension that I do use has a selection box covering passwords. One single accidental manual check in this box, or if the C&C default checks the box and you do not uncheck it, your entire password records are gone forever. As easy as that.

I'm got a setup using XPpro and advanced file sharing is in effect.

Machine 'A' has a folder which needs to be accessible from Machine 'B' but not from any of the other machines on the network.

OK, no problem so far; simply add the specified user on Machine 'B' to the ACL as the only entry.

However, now the problem arises.

The machine A user is Administrator ... and so is Machine B, but they have different passwords.

Machine B needs to be able to access the folder unattended (it's going to perform various maintenance tasks on it).

Changing the username on Machine A is not a sensible option. Equally, changing the user name on machine B is undesirable.

It seems that B can't get at the share because, although the username is permitted, the password is wrong on A. Is there any easy way round this? Is there any way to access a share as a different user?

Foillwing on from this, can share permissions only be allocated at a user level or can the ACL be set to allow (for example) all administrators to access the share? I suppose it boils down to, does the access mechanism for B to get at A pass the group as well as the username and password?

I have Windows Vista, Safari 4 and Firefox 3.0.10. Also Comodo internet security.

Not long after I installed comodo on my computer all the usernames and passwords i enter into websites stopped being saved (despite ticking save my username boxes). I'm not hugely bothered about passwords because i don't really like saving them but having to write in my username every time is getting seriously irritating if I'm signing into these things like > 10 times a day. Sorry if this is really petty.

I figured that it was something to do with installing comodo seeing as that was when the problem started but I've looked around that and have no idea what im looking at. I also looked at lots of forums but none seem to have the same problem or the right solution (especially none to do with comodo). My usernames simply aren't saved no matter what settings I change and fiddle around with be it cookies or even just the clear private data settings. On firefox i also tried the about:config stuff after looking up what might be the problem there and all seems to be ok. Then again I'm not much of a computer whizz (hence the problem) so i might be missing something. I installed Safari hoping to find a browser that might work but no luck.

Does any one know what might be the problem? I am open to all suggestions (even if i've already tried them). Cheers.

I have a Windows XP SP3 workgroup computer with the primary user as an Administrator on the machine. I've set up several network shares and saved the password and username to them in My Network Places. This information gets cached or saved to the KeyMgr.dll component in XP. In my experience with this type of setup, the information is saved permanently and never clears out on reboot, thus prompting the user to enter in username and password information when accessing the share again.

If I create a second user account (Administrator type) on the problem machine, the KeyMgr.dll information (Stored Usernames and Passwords) never gets erased, even after reboot.

If I could just figure out what clears the information on the main users account, that would be great. But at this point, I may just have to create a new user and migrate their files. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know why the KeyMgr keeps clearing what should be saved information?

A Wisconsin security firm claims that a Russian criminal group has accumulated the largest known collection of stolen online usernames and passwords via SQL injections, according to a new report in The New York Times on Tuesday.
Hold Security, which did not immediately respond to Ars’ request for comment, apparently has 1.2 billion usernames and passwords across 420,000 sites. It declined to tell The Times which companies were affected, nor name the group specifically.
In February 2014, Hold Security also discovered 360 million compromised login credentials for sale in underground crime forums. The haul, which included an additional 1.25 billion records containing only e-mail addresses, came from multiple breaches. In October 2013, the same firm discovered the circulation of 153 million user names and passwords stolen during a massive breach of Adobe's corporate network. A month later, the security firm uncovered 42 million plaintext passwords taken during a hack on niche dating service Cupid Media.

I wonder if this is for real.

W7 with IE9 will not prompt me to remember passwords like it used to. Have checked remember option under tools/internet options/content but no better. Any help?

A:IE9 won't remember passwords

The "remember" option has no effect on whether or not you get a "save password?" prompt in IE.

Internet Options > Content (tab).
In the ?Autocomplete? section, click on "Settings".
In the dialog box, tick the check-box for "User names & passwords on forms"
Under that, tick the check-box for "Ask me before saving passwords"
Click 'OK'.

Bear in mind that this feature of IE does not work on some websites that require log-in.

I don't use that feature anyway. Most websites have their own "remember me" option of their own which plants a cookie in your "Cookies" folder and is much more reliable.

Hi! point3, welcome to 7F

Your situation is caused by a corrupted registry key.

In order to fix it you could follow the instructions here:
Outlook Express keeps prompting for your password

NOTE: Following this procedure will remove all stored passwords for your user account. Make sure you know what they are before performing this procedure!!

Are you comfortable working with the Registry?
