I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well I have been having problems fo rthe past couple days with my computer... My family has a computer set up where each user has their own private desktop and settings well the virus only seems to be in my account.... My virus scanner detected it and keeps detecting extra files from it .... I don't know what to do ...
Everytime I sign on to the internet browser I'll be fine for a couple minutes then all of a sudden all these white blank pages pop up... and cover the whole desktop including the taskbar .... Then I have to hit the windows icon button on my keyboard to bring the pages back... Then it goes away then comes back so on and so on... Then the taskbar is filled with like 60 to 70 pages that I can't close because they are all blank ..... and cover everything.... It started when I was either logged in MSN or when my friend was copying a cd to another cd on my computer... If anyone can help I would be so thankfull.... I have gotten some great advice on this site... and reccomend it to anyone with a computer problem... Thank you if I have any more info Ill be sure to let you all know.....

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone here can give me a bit of help. Here's the situation: I was putting in a few new pieces this evening;
1GB ram (2x512)
A new video card (GeForce FX5700 VE, 256mb DDR)
and a second drive (Seagate 200GB, Ultra ATA/100) with new power cord (as recommended by the manual).

After installing, I had problems with startup (no display and the hard drive wasn't running, I was also getting a beep) So I disconnected the second drive and futzed around, finally replacing the new cord with the old cord, at which point the hard drive kicked in and started humming. But still no display. (By no display I mean a completely blank, black screen) I switched out both the ram and the vid card for their original counterparts and *still* nothing.

After a while I switched the ram *back* out and replaced it with the 1GB set, but left the original card in (A PNY "Nanya"? It came with the computer) I doublechecked the seat of both cards, and felt confident that they were fully seated (my ram tab/holders are pretty fussy, and will fully lock even if the card(s) aren't properly seated) This time the startup was a success. Everything was running, and I had full display. There was a slightly longer pause than usual during the boot, but I got no error messages, and everything seemed great.

I shut down (using the usual process) and moved on to the vid card. I took out the Nanya and replaced it with the GeForce, triple-... Read more

I think you should have uninstalled your old graphics card driver, shut down, installed the new card, booted up and installed a new driver, in that order.

At this point since you can't get the computer boot, try putting the old graphics card back in. If it boots up and runs, try my suggested way to install the new card. If that works, install each of the other components one at a time.

hi, welcome to TSG.

Well you don't have that much in viruses and spyware, a p2p network and a minor spyware infection!

I think you should phone up your tech support company and make a strong complaint especially if you are paying for this service! Even if you have spyware they should help you to fix it or give you some ideas and directions, but to leave you with all these extra connections and just say it is spyware and viruses is ridiculous!
The version of hijack this you have is outdated, ditch the one you have and post another hijack this log!
Download hijack this from the link below. Please do this. Click here:

to download HijackThis. Click scan and save a logfile, then post it here so
we can take a look at itfor you. Don't click fix on anything in hijack this
as most of the files are legitimate.
Go to control panel/click on network connections/ how many connections do you have, if you have 12 as you said, right click on them and disable 11 of them and leave the original one? If you have a ethernet connection or dial up, maybe delete all 12 and delete them if you can and make a new one using your old info, user name and passwords etc.
have hijack this fix these entries. close all browsers and programmes before
clicking FIX.

My screen went completely small and there was a black box around the main desktop. I read through some posts and read that I should go to my resolution and maximize it. I did that and my main screen went back to normal but my internet screens are so small i can barely see them. Also, I play alot of Big Fish games and those screens have the black border around them even though it's gone on the desktop now. I don't know what happened. As far as I know, I didn't press anything and I know I didn't change any settings.

I've tried to do a search for this, but I can't seem to find anything that matches exactly what happened to my Dell.

I had a Dell Inspiron 1501 or something like that and I was on it one minute and then I went back a few minutes later and it was dead. My charger wasn't plugged in and for the life of me I can't remember if the battery was low or if it just went out on its own.

Anyway, I went to plug up the charger and the green light wouldn't come on to let me know it was charging (on the charger itself) and it wasn't doing anything to my laptop. I unplugged it from that outlet and plugged it up in another and the green light came on. I figured it was the outlet, so I brought my laptop to where the light came on and as soon I hooked up the charger to the laptop, the green light went out.

I brought it to Best Buy b/c they said they could test it out before buying a new charger so I wouldn't waste $100+ if it wasn't that to begin with. Of course, it didn't come on. It did the same exact thing. They said it's most likely the motherboard and not even worth trying to get it fixed.

Thank God for my external hard drive with ALL my stuff on it, but there were very few things I didn't save and it'd be nice if I could get the Dell to come back on so I can get them.

Has anyone heard of this happening and if so, is it even worth me paying someone to try and salvage it? Any idea on how to make sure it doesn't happen to m... Read more

I recently got a new laptop pc, with windows vista on it.
It was using my internet connection that is on my pc as the broadband internet modem is wireless, and all was working fine until yesterday.
I'm not sure if I'm infected with something, or not, but I can't access certain websites, well one that I have found so far, and its one that I need to be able to access.
I've tried restarting both computers, and tried leaving both off for a while, also tried turning off internet modem, and tried leaving it off too, I've done a DNS flush on my pc, but on the laptop it says it needs elevation so I'm not sure what to do.

Pc is XP, laptop is Vista.

I've already tried scanning the system for viruses and malware and spyware and everything comes back clean!
I'm very confused, and rather frustrated as I need to be able to go on to the site.

I hope someone can help me get this sorted.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

To save time, I'm just going to copy and paste in portions of a couple e-mails I wrote to a few friends about this lately, so a couple parts will repeat, but extra detail is also present. I just want feedback about it

E-mail #1:
The first idea on the list is what I would call a Black Internet (and when I say black, I'm talking Black Market...I know that's a terrible title, but it's not as bad as it sounds). The infrastructure of it would consist of nothing but already existent wireless internet hardware that people already own or could buy dirt cheap. Lots of people have wireless internet adapters and networking cards. All they need now is a piece of software to enable auto-configuring, Ad-Hoc, Wireless-Mesh-Topology network; a freelance, public controlled Intranet (that's INTRAnet, or, a very huge Local Area Network). Such a software already exists that enables such networking, and it's called Wipeer, and it runs on Windows only. The developers are considering going open source (and they should do it now before their idea is copied and someone develops an alternative faster than they can upgrade their own and have a Linux version available).

All communication from peer to peer on such a network is encrypted with high end encryption. So that, if you are conducting data transfers to others in the wireless mesh that you wish to be kept private from end to end, it can be done very easily and safely. Data Encryption is something of a blessing, thes... Read more

Something pretty strange has occured to my desktop. It was running fine two days ago. Earlier today, I turned on the computer and everything was running ok for a few minutes. Then, the screen just froze. Couldn't move the mouse and the keyboard was not responsive. The Ctrl+Alt+Del combination also was not working. Finally, just ended up turning off the power supply in the back of the computer.

In the past when this has occured, usually, I will see a screen that shows that the computer was not properly shut down and is doing a scan disk. Afterwards, it will boot up as normal. This time, the monitor displayed a message saying that it was "testing" and that the monitor was working fine but that I should check the cable or the pc. On the desktop side; within a few seconds after being powered on, a constant beeping sound is heard and the computer screen remains blank. After a few seconds of this noise, I just end up turning off the power supply in the back of the computer. I have tried a number of simple things like turning on and off the power supply on the computer, unplugging the electrical plugs but still have the same constant beeping sound. I was even able to connect the desktop monitor to my notebook to see if it was a monitor problem but I was able to see my notebook screen on the desktop montior so that probably rules out a monitor or monitor cable problem.

I really have no idea what could be causing this problem. If anyone has encountered a similiar pro... Read more

Hi all, i need some majour help with my computer. Early this morning i decided to move some files i had on an old written dvd to my pc and i inserted the dvd into my drive and i got a pop up saying the dvd was a blank cd.

So i went to my computer and my dvd ram drive was being labled as a cd drive so i tried a few more of my dvd that i have written files on and it comes up as a blank cd and i cannot access the files on it. it wont boot any of my written dvd either.

Here is the puzzler, the drive recognises orginal dvd's like my games crysis and gears of war and my asus sriker 2 dvd and i can install and play from them dvd's and the drive boots and plays cds. its just seems to be dvd's that i have written.

I have not had any problem using these dvds before with this drive so i have no idea what is wrong.

The only thing that i could think was wrong that i recently upgraded the bios and never tested the drive with a copied dvd just orginals. So i rolled back to a previouse version of the bios and just to be safe i hit the "clear bios switch" on my mobo.

And what happens? the computer does not boot. My lcd poster was stuck on the dect dram. So i knew there was something wrong with the ram. I pulled out my ram and tested them 1 by 1 and what do i find has happened? one of my ram sticks has some how stopped working for no reason.

Yesterday, I just got a blank BSOD from playing Grand Theft Auto Vice City. I rebooted and uninstalled that game, thinking that caused it.

A few minutes ago, I just got the BSOD, saying something about a "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR". I just pressed the power button to revive the computer from its hibernation from last night (which I always do nightly). When the computer came through, it gave me an option to send an error report to MS, because it just recovered from a serious error. this is the link and it suggested that these are the common causes of it:

* Large file transfers from secondary media to local hard drive
* Power loss to hard disk drive causing inconsistent data sectors
* Problems entering Hibernation or Standby Mode
* Hard drive lag caused by filter drivers, such as virus scanners

I have a few more backups to do (they're not that important, but they make my life easier) but if this does happen again, what are my options?

BTW, my specs:
Intel P4 2.8ghz processor
Asus P4s8x-x mobo
Maxtors 120/60gb HDs
ATI AIW 9700 128mb vid card
Crucial PC2700 1024mb memory (2 sticks)
WinXP Home

A:What happened to my computer?

It might have had something to do with the hibernation, seeing as how a possible factor is

* Power loss to hard disk drive causing inconsistent data sectors

and hibernation turns off power to much of the computer (including the harddrive). It probably isn't very serious, you could run scandisk to see if there are any errors, other than that there isn't much you can do as far as I know.

2. My printer is connected using Wifi. I have to reconnect it every time I want to use it, manually, I didn't have to do that before. Same thing when I try to connect with my bank, using a external devise, connected via USB.

Yesterday we had a partial power outgage. The lights dimmed to about 1/4 what they should be and my computer shut off and tried to reboot. At the boot screen it would stop and reboot again. This happened about 3 times (I was not aware of the power problem) before I shut it off. Then all the power went off for a couple of hours.

Finally when the power came back on I turned on the computer only to see NOTHING! I checked all my connections and everything was fine. I thought maybe something happend to the monitor so hooked up another one, that didn't work either. Then I thought the video card was fried so I tried another one. No luck. Finally I cleaned the reseated everything and tried one last boot when I noticed I'm not hearing any beeps! I know that's not good! So I shoved in a win98 boot disk and rebooted and it came on fine.

Except for the fact that I have win2000 so it wouldn't boot at least I knew that the video card and monitor worked fine. I put in the win2000 CD and rebooted.

Everything is fine now. Took out the CD and rebooted and everything is back to normal. What happened to my computer?

I have a computer with 2000 on it and one with 98. They were sharing an internet connection via a wireless router and I have done something that has stop letting the 2000 connect to the internet. The router is connected to the 98, as is the modem.
It was working perfectly until I had a little trouble with the modem, I thought, which turned out to be in the standby mode, so I guess I clicked or pushed something I wasn't supposed to.

Anyone have any idea as to what I might have done to cause this?

I turned my computer on today, and to my surprise my desktop has changed, it only has a few things on it now, just a few programs, also my downloads file is empty, my bookmarks are gone along with many other things (well they're not gone because I searched for a file I was working on and found it) and my Windows 7 UI now looks like Windows 98...

I opened up a file that I was working on and it gave me this 'Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Windows/system32/config/systemprofil… Folder/gallery.html.' even though the file is on my desktop.

I tried to system restore to a few days back and when my computer reloaded it looks the exact same.

I am clueless as to what has possibly happened to my computer. Previously, I was running Windows XP 32-bit on it just fine for a months. However, I decided just yesterday it was time to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64-bit to make the best use of my specs.

It ran fine that day. Everything was super smooth and looked wonderful with Vista even giving my computer a 5.0/5.0, meaning I assume it was able to handle it.

That night, I left my computer on to download some essential programs. At about 4:00AM in the morning, I woke up to realize my computer was beeping. It was one long continuous beep, and I actually had to run around the house before I actually discovered... Read more

Two days ago my computer crashed, when I reset it and it rebooted to my desktop, a lot of services where disabled and stopped, preventing me from going to the internet. The windows security center service couldn't be started, lots of services were disabled and if I attempted to re-enable them, it would either show a "group dependecy" failure or " Error 193: 0xc1". While just entering the desktop after the login, I noticed a quick command prompt message that dissapeared quickly, I managed to catch it by print-screening and it said that the CLIstart.exe, was a program that was too big to fit in memory. Worst of all, cmd.exe would not run, as an error window said that cmd.exe was not a valid Win32 application" It has happened with a lot of exes actually not just cmd. Alot of icons have turned to black squares. After that I ran a full scan with Windows Security Essentials, my main antivirus program, it found 3 infections:

-Worm: Win32/Ainslot.A
-TrojanDownloader: Win32/Troxen!rts
-TrojanDownloader: Java/OpenConnection.OO

Although it "removed" them the problems didn't go away, the computer was in the same state: stopped services, corrupt exes, and so on even after I rebooted. One thing I tried to do was run ComboFix, I knew I shouldn't have done it without consultation, however the program got stuck at the "Output Folder:33788R22FWJFW..." part, so it didn't run anyways (I don't know if it has something to do with cmd.exe not w... Anything that has to do with the command prompt is not going to work so I couldn't get the log files from the scr file, so I stopped there until I could get a response from you guys. I cant even run sfc because of that, but.... when i run sfc directly from System32 a command prompt message with sfc instructions(i quickly print-screened it) just flashes, opens and closes really fast.

Here's what happened:

Yesterday evening, I turn on my computer and smell a vague odor of burning...my friend notices it as well. I probably should have realized something was wrong, but I didn't pay much attention to it and I began to play a computer game that I have. About an forty minutes later, my computer screen all of a sudden is covered with colored squares (I think) and colored lines....across the whole screen. I manually shut down my computer, and then turn it back on again. Three minutes later, my computer screen goes crazy again and I see black and white thick lines across my whole screen (I think). I shut my computer down manually again, and when I try to turn it back on, my computer screen shows nothing...in fact, my computer monitor turns off (goes into idle mode...it's what it does when I turn the monitor on but I the actual computer is not turned on.) However, my computer is clearly on - the power light is green. Also, strangely, the light that flickers when my computer is doing a lot of stuff (I'm pretty sure it flickers when the computer has to access the hard drive because of insufficient ram for the job it may be doing), is totally green and not even flickering, it's just staying green. That tells me that it might be the ram that's problem, but I honestly have no idea.

Can anyone walk me through and tell me how I can find the problem! I did a really quick search of the insides of my computer to see if any wires seemed fried, ... Read more

Alright, let me start this off by saying i'm very computer literate. (i build computers for a living and work in the IT department at work) but a client brought me his computer and there's something wrong with it and i can't figure it out.

It's very sluggish, so i thought alright spyware/malware/or virus. Ran Avast 4.8 and it found somethings and said it removed it. booted into safemode, it found somemore things, removed it. then had it preform a boot scan and said everything was great. booted up and it's still there. it's the one where it changes your background to the picture/link of "you're computer's been infected...blah blah" and keep getting annoying pop-ups in the system tray. So i browsed here, and downloaded malwarebyte's scanner and it found like close to 100 things. It rebooted and said it removed it all, but when i rebooted it was still there. I'm scanning again right now (doing a full scan) and it's found 9 things so far. I'll post the log when i'm done.

Any other ideas?

Dropbox + Sugarsync - running both at the same time - good idea or bad idea?

A:Running Sugarsync + Dropbox at the same time - good idea or bad idea?

You can be specific about what each actually synchronizes so I don't see that as a CPU issue. However if using both over the Internet with one of the more substantial data plans to sync, I would wonder which gets priority or how well they share the upload bandwidth. Wouldn't be so good if one was always grabbing it to sync in the off-load times and the other just kept waiting and waiting for its turn.

Hello all,
I am stumped here and didn't know where else to turn for help.
One of my computers is an older Dell desktop, with a Celeron 2.4GHZ processor and 2gb of ram. I am running Win XP SP3 on it, with all available updates (I think).
Long story short, I recently did a format and clean load of Windows on this machine, and even after updates it is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow online. Slower than it was before I did the format/load.
I have run virus scans (Avast) and spyware scans (spybot search and destroy) and found nothing. I have also ran SlimCLeaner.
When I am online and open up task manager, it shows multiple (between 5 and 8) instances of Chrome (my preferred browser) running, even when I only have 1 open browser and 1 tab open. These seem to consume a large part of my CPU usage (which is normally 100% in task manager). Another large CPU consumer seems to be "system idle processes" which I am unable to end in task manager.
If it matters, I am connected to the internet on this machine via a USB wireless adapter (Netgear), with a Netgear router (both also updated with the latest firmware and drivers), and AT&T DSL. I have other computers on the same network (running WIn8), that are running just fine. Seems like only this computer is SLOW.
I can post any other needed information, if you tell me how.
Thanks for any help.... I am FRUSTRATED.

A:Not sure what happened, but need help with (newly) slow computer

1) System Idle Process shows how much of the cpu is NOT being used. The higher the number, the more free cycles you have.
2) How many instance of Chrome are in task manager when you have only one tab open. I don't use Chrome, but it's likely each tab runs in a separate process.
3) Is the only problem that the browser pages load slowly or are there other symptoms?
4) Open Device Manager. Are there any yellow or red symbols?
5) Why did you reformat?

Okay, something REALLY weird happened today... We turned on the computer to find it saying that there was no bootable device and that I should insert one or restard the computer with one. It was weird yesterday my computer was doing fine and booted just as you'd expect.
Anyways, I tried EVERYTHING to get it to boot as normal, even updating the BIOS. My full computer specs are:

Case: Cooler Master CM 690 II advanced.
Mobo: ASUS P6X58D-E
GPU: 2x GTX 470.
HDD: Samsung F3 Spinpoint 1 TB
SSD: Mushkin 60 GB SSD
CPU: Intel Core i7 930
RAM: G-Skill, 3 sticks of 2 GB
PSU: Antec TruePower 750w
Disc Drive: Plextor PX Blu Ray Drive

Anyways, like I said, I tried everything short of reinstalling Windows 7 x64. It was weird because the BIOS DETECTED all the drives, but refused to boot from the SSD (where Windows 7 is installed.)

Finally I got frustrated and decided to just TRY and boot from the other drive (the HDD).... AND IT BOOTED UP!
I don't understand it! There's no installation of Windows installed on that drive and it's still assigned as B: and the SSD is still assigned as C:...

Anyone know what's going on?!

I used Ccleaner at first just thinking my cpu was just running slowly, it did nothing to help. I was told I should try using waterfox because it runs faster, so I downloaded that. The first time I tried running it I had 4 or 5 things pop up (comodo defense) saying programs (avg, java i believe, and others) needed full access to my computer, but instead of asking my permission, they sandboxed them. Unsure of what was going on, I uninstalled and deleted the program. I was told that waterfox couldn't have been the cause, so I tried redownloading it. That time when I went to install it it said "file corrupted." A few hours later I did redownload again and install "successfully" at least that's what it said.

This normally happens when you have something like a mapped network drive that is not available, Windows times out waiting for it and then proceeds.

Hi Everyone,

New to the forums, first post.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this ongoing issue I've been having with my PC. Lately, its been happening when I've been playing Diablo 3, however it has happened when surfing the internet with Chrome. There is no indication of when it will happen. Always happens at random. The computer freezes completely and the sound goes on an infinite loop. Eventually it magically comes back as if nothing happened at all. No error messages popping up from my system tray(for example, I don't see a "Nvidia Driver has recovered from an error")

I don't have any crash dumps/error logs to share at this moment, as I am posting from work. So this thread is a bit of a place holder for later so I can update it with relevant information if you need it.

My System specs are as follows:

i7 2600k(not overclocked)
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Rev 3.0 Motherboard
ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-e sound card
8 GB Corsair Vengeance (not 100%sure on that)
Windows 7 Professional 64bit (not retail, upgrade from Vista on a student deal)
1TB Seagate HDD

The other day I ran a chkdsk, but it hadn't solved any problems. I have yet to run a RAM test, will likely do that when I get home from work. System restore didn't fix the issue either.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or similar issues? It's getting extremely frustrating!

Thank you for your time.

A:Computer Freezes for 1-3 mins, 'comes back' as if nothing happened.
