windows 10 refurbished laptop model 15-f272wm

Q: windows 10 refurbished laptop model 15-f272wm

I am more of a novice with this subject, pc and tech stuff, so forgive me if I am doing this wrong. I bought a refurbished HP laptop, or is it now called "notebook"? Plugged it in, wifi came on no problem. I didn't get any book or paper info. Probably cause refurbished. So I get on the blue HP screen and it wants a name and password before anything else. I filled it out. I tried to scroll down, wouldn't go. Tried "enter" and backspace and almost every key when it froze on HP sign in. Using a Vista to send this message. I don't think I am locked out cause can't log in. If anyone can tell me what simple move do I make to continue set up? Is it possible such as "enter button is damaged? Should there be a "next" in a box that I ckick on, is it down lower on screen? Then how do I get the page to scroll down? Any help appreciated. Don't even know if it has a warranty. Usually a great consumer except for mecahnical and internet pc. Apreciate if there an answer.Spoiler (Highlight to read)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

If the laptop / notebook is refurbished, can I assume you have no user data or user profile on this system yet?If the answer is no, then try the following: On powering on the laptop, as the blue HP POST screen pops up, press the "F11" key on the keyboard a few times. (You may have to power the system off by holding the power button for 5 seconds and trying again if you don't get the screen the first time). This should take you to the HP System Recovery Screen. If this doesn't work some systems us the "ESC" key in the top left corner of the keyboard instead. Once you enter HP System Recovery you should be able to follow the prompts to do a full factory restore of the system. Please note: This will erase all data and user profiles from the laptop, including the user profile that you can't login to, as you don't seem to have the correct username and password available. This process will take about 1 to 2 hours, so be patient. Here is a link to a HP site that explains exactly how to run Factory Restore:http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02638587 Once the system restore is done, and it powers back on, it should take you back to the "Out of Box Experience" or OOBE for short. This will take you through setting up the system with your own user profile and installing factory software and drivers for the first time. The OOBE usually takes about 20 ~ 30 mins in windows 10. When you get to the screen asking you to create a Microsoft Account to login with, you can either create a new Microsoft Account if you wish, or use an existing one. If you currently have no internet connection and are doing this "offline" then I'd suggest that you choose the "Next" option without filling in a username and password. The next screen will then ask you if you want to create an "Offline User Account" this is a great idea if the system isn't going to be connected to the internet constantly, such as if you use a mobile broadband device like your mobile phone to provide internet, instead of an always on system like ADSL over wifi. If you get stuck, message back with specifics and I'll answer where I can.

Hey @pam713, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your friends HP 15-f272wm Notebook not able to connect to Enterprise WPS. I see no reason that this Notebook could not connect to this type of connection. You could try following this document on Network discovery and file sharing on each computer that you want to access on the network. Here is a link to this document.  Please let me know how it goes.  Click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos high five, just to say thanks for trying.  Thanks.

Greetings, I just got a refurbished Pavilion laptop. It came with Windows 10 pre-loaded and is in perfect working condition, but they stripped all stickers from it, including the one with the Windows license key. If I purchase the recovery media from HP, will it have the license key, and will it work on my laptop?   I'm awaiting a callback from the refurbisher's customer service department to see if I can get a key from them (I just called a few minutes ago). For the price I paid, I don't mind doing a little legwork to take care of this (including purchasing a new copy of Windows, although I'd rather not if I can avoid it).

A:Refurbished Laptop with no Windows License Key

@G-Rock77? If the notebook is a model that is only a few years old, then the license activation key is actually in the BIOS.   Since the 17-121gw notebook is a 2015 model, that is where the license  activation key will be, unless the refurbisher cleared the HP Factory  Default keys. Windows COA stickers have not been used for a few years on HP desktop and notebook PCs. Check in the BIOS. See the image below.

It is either a dead power supply or a bad motherboard. Try removing the battery, attach AC adapter. Now see if you get even a flash. If not, it may be the AC adapter, which you gotta hope.

I'm posting this on TenForums so others will learn from my experience upgrading to Windows 10. But I would really like to know if anyone else has seen a computer with the square Windows 8 sticker, but no product key either on a label or in firmware/bios? <- that's just bolded because that is the main question I have :-)

I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ASUS X750JA laptop on ebay. It has the official Windows 8 little square sticker on the back, which to me indicates it should have a Windows 8 product key stored in UEFI firmware. It came with 2x 1TB hard drives. I didn't want to mess with Windows 8 or 8.1 at all, so I booted the laptop and it came up with the OOBE Windows 8.1 screen as expected. I entered audit mode and exported the drivers to a USB flash drive, then shut it down.

I pulled out the primary HDD and installed a completely blank SSD and clean installed Windows 10 Home. Created a local user account, and Windows 10 was not activated! *raise one eyebrow here* Ran showkey plus and no product key in UEFI/bios. So I connected the HDD to a USB adapter (which is why I did not bother making a back up image first - because I have lots of other means of making a backup image from the removed HDD). Looked at the software registry hive with showkey plus and it showed an OEM Windows 8 Home product key. Changed the Windows 10 product key and entered the Windows 8 product key and it activated just like it should.

If something had happened to that Wind... Read more

Hi 7forums!

Here are my specs:

Toshiba P775-S7215 core i7

Is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, came installed with the laptop - no disk, ie OEM

I just bought it from Newegg.com. It's a refurbished machine and came with no documents or disks. When this first started happening I did a repair install or whatever it is you can select after pressing F2 on boot. Then I bought a 30-day license for DriverMax and updated the drivers. And did a Windows Update, etc.

I read somewhere today that Norton could cause it so I uninstalled it (wasn't full version anyway). But it's still happening.

I've attached a zip file containing the health report and the contents of Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2. Let me know if I messed it up and I will redo.

Thanks, in advance, if anyone can help.

I've got a couple of weeks left to the 30 day warranty from Newegg. If it's just a matter of fixing a few bugs then I'd rather do that then return it and maybe end up with something worse. Newegg only has a replacement policy for the machine.

Hello All,

I am the proud owner of a refurbished Toshiba laptop, which looks really nice not a mark on it, I hope the inside is good too.

This is the first Win 8 machine I've had, previously win 7 which I love and still own 5 machines with it on. Now it being a refurbish, the documents and instructions did not come so I'm a bit blind to it all and it is very different to win 7. So I start it up and there's this screen saying something to me I don't understand System preparation tool 3.14, what the? Can someone please explain what it is and what it does and do I need it and will it keep bothering me forever?

Also when turning the machine on with the button windows boots and I get a blue screen with an admin telling me my account has been disabled, ah that's no good I can't access the machine, so bit worried I hit restart and all is good it comes to the desk top, Does anyone know what this means? I don't want to login, I just want to up a run, no passwords no mucking about. Can someone help with that also?

Thanks for listening and thanks for helping out

Hi! I've been looking at laptops for my brother to use when he goes to Ireland. I think he wants it just to watch movies on the plane. He's not computer savvy---he didn't know a laptop is actually a computer. He just wanted to know if he could watch movies on it. I found a site that sells refurbished laptops. Are they worth the money to take a chance that they'll last for a few years? The one's I've perused either say Grade A Refurbished or Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, does Windows 8 offer phone verification like windows 7 did?

I have a freind asking me about a refurbished laptop. I have never bought a refurbished anything computer wise. Has anyone had any experience with refurbished laptops? My initial thoughts are that it is not a good idea.

A:Solved: Refurbished Laptop?

They're fine if purchased directly from the manufacturer. Apple sells excellent refurbs. They can't legally sell anything that has been opened as brand new, so even if someone just peeked in the box, it's sold as a refurb at 5-15% off. Don't buy anything off lease since business users abuse the heck out of laptops.

The model and features they're considering also factor in. Brand new low-end consumer laptops can be purchased for as little as $400. You're not going to get much of a deal on a refurb.

So I ordered a laptop from Ebay and I mistaknely didn't look at the product number and got the wrong model (Spectre x360 w0xx model) . So I contacted the seller and asked for a replacement they said okay, so I mail them back and they sent me a new one (Spectre x360 ac0xx model) however, I was not informed that this laptop would be a refurbished laptop. I know it's refurbished as the product number as a R before the # meaning it is refurbished. My question is am I elligible for some of my money back because orignally I had paid for a new one or not? and if so, how much is the price reduction on a refurbished laptop specifically the spectre x360 ac0xx series. Also the ac0xx that just arrived didn't come with a pen. Please help me.

I have a refurbished desktop( see my system specs) that I purchased from Cosco over 3 years ago.
Just recently I got a bargain on a refurbished laptop i5, 6GB DDR3, 2 separate HD's 250 each with a 17.3 screen by HP from Sam's Club. for $350. No they don't have any left.

Caution:IMHO I would not buy refurbished on Ebay. I would only buy refurbished from local Box Store or reputable sites on the web.

I have had no trouble with either so far. The only thing I would replace is the operator!

I'm considering buying a refurbished lap top. Is this a good idea or a terrible idea? I welcome any input on this, including who to buy it from. Thank you.

A:Solved: Considering refurbished laptop

Remember the anology You get what you paid for.

If I were looking at a referb, I would do a bit of history checking first - places like CNet's web site, here they review these beasties, keep online archives for just such purposes. This can steer you in the right direction in many cases, since there are many reasons why laptops were referbed in the first place.

Second thing I would steer away from - just like an automobile, I'd stay away from first-year models of a new design. Buggy messes usually happen with these, and having seen one set of laptops fry three floor models of the same brand-new machine once, it kind of drove that home for me.

Dell Latitudes are what are known as Fleet Machines - AKA, they are made in the millions, and tend to be everywhere - this means a great deal of machines available, tons of spare parts, and relatively cheap to upgrade. The only drawback would be that even though they tend to be built with added shock resistence in them, that usually means the previous owner may not have been too kind to them. But, if you're looking for a good inexpencive bang-for-your-buck, these types are probably good enough.

As for where to get them, many companies are carrying referbs these days, though some (like MicroCenter) require that you go to one of their stores to get them. Online stores that carry them offer good deals, but can't open a box so you can see the condition of the case.

A:refurbished laptop how can i reinstall

Use your disk to re install windows and use the key on his COA to activate windows.

You have 30 days to activate windows, no need to rush.

Get the network (ethernet) drivers from the manufacturer`s website of his laptop and put them on a usb stick or a cd so you can install them on the laptop so you can get to the internet and run windows update

Most laptop drivers have to be gotten from the manu`s website, just go to support & drivers and input his model in the search bar.

I bought a refurbished laptop computer which I thought had 160 gigs on the hard drive but it only had 29 gigs so I took it back. However I am still looking for a refurbished hard drive and want to know if I can use an external hard drive with greater gigs which would not damage it.

A:Upgrading storage on refurbished laptop

Yes, you can.
You have to assure that the working hard drive, for normal purposes, has at least 18 percent of the drive free for full operational work... it can be done with less, but the smaller the free space, the greater the problems. Of course, available memory is also a major part of the job.
New hard drives are now available for under $45 now.
You didn't mention the brand and model. nor the brand and date code of the hard drive. SATA or EIDE? Replacing or perhaps just reformatting and reinstalling your operating system on the hard drive may change your outlook on that drive.

@ehma Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The term "refurbished" means that its a used PC that has been rebuilt, replacing wornout and broken parts with new ones. Unfotunately, the quality of such devices varies greatly -- depending critically on where you buy the device, because the refurbshing it outsourced to other companies. I only purchase refurbished PCs from one source and their products come with a 30-day return, so if the device is faulty, I can return it for a full refunc.Regardless of where you bought the device, it should not be missing any components -- and if there is a hole in the case, where a CD/DVD drive should be, you were sole an INCOMPLETE device and you should return it for a refund.Good Luck

I need some help...

The hard drive on my HP G71 447US laptop is corrupted and I am unable to create a recovery disc.

I bought a new WD 1 TB internal HD (and will try to replace it myself...wish me luck!) and wanted to know if I can use my Windows 7 Professional for Refurbished PCs disc that I got for with my PC and install THAT on my new WD laptop HD using the product code on my old PC and will the OS work with my laptop HD?

Thank you for helping out a novice.

A:Installing Win7 for Refurbished PCs on laptop HD

Did the old PC have Win7 Pro on it? If not the Product Key on the Notebook probably will not work. And I've seen Branded/OEM discs not work at all on a different brand machine, gives an error message.

Did you buy it from HP? If it has Windows 10 you can go into settings (gear icon) recovery and choose reset and then choose to remove all previous files and start over. This is equivalent to a clean new installation.

I started using a brand new AC adapter directly from Lenovo after my old one stopped working. At first everything was normal. After restarting my computer a few hours later, the brightness is set and cannot be adjusted with the keyboard, slider or within settings. The autobrigtness is not turned on nor is power saver. It was dim and at night after being in sleep it was bright but at neither time could I change or control the brightness. Today upon restarting it is still in a dimmer mode and I cannot make the brightness increase. I did not update anything else software or hardware and everything else is original to the laptop (no replacement parts).I have checked to make sure Adaptive Brightness is turned off in Display Settings and also made sure the Auto-Brightness is turned off. The brightness is at 100% on the slider and settings but the screen remains dimmed.Thank you!

HI - I have an ASUS X550LA laptop that I purchased refurbished. The laptop has windows 8.1. It came with a note saying that because the hard drive had to be completely wiped, the recovery partition was also wiped. It says the ASUS recovery disk creation process no longer works. With that said, is there another way I can create a recovery disk/USB i can use should my computer go Ka-put?

Yes, get an istallation iso same edition and bit version.

Export the drivers of your current system.

Integrate the drivers into install.wim and boot.wim image 2 of your installation iso.

Alternatively, use an imaging program to make a backup of your entire system - probabaly simpler for you, quicker, too.

Bought a refurbished Dell with Windows XP Home edition...But all of the fonts, the google search box and everything on the browser including desktop icons, is so tiny I can barely read it.
Also, the mouse takes several scrolls to get across the screen.
What can I do to change it?
At the toolbar on the browser, under "view", there is tab which lets me change the text size by hitting "Control ++" but then I have to keep doing it over and over to keep the text big enough to read.

Hi there to everyone,

I'm a new member and this is my first post, so I would firstly like to apologise in advance if I appear somewhat slow and clueless, as when it comes to matters of IT, I am not the brightest spark in the box.

The reason for my post relates to the problems I am experiencing in setting up my Wifi for the first time on this newly purchased Dell E6400 laptop (Vista), as for the past few days I have gone around and around in circles with various Virgin Media technicians in getting me set up on Wifi, and after each session of them talking me through varying instructions, I'm asked to call back again, after they have re-set the passwords, however, since the last time they did this, the two original VM options have disappeared entirely, and there is a message stating that I have no Wifi networks and that the radio is switched off (not that I understand what that means). Furthermore, the last technician asked me to connect the ethernet cable to the laptop, which I have done, as if not connected I cannot use the Internet.

Once again, I apologise for my babbling, and hope that it makes sense to someone, and would be grateful for any assistance, however, please bear in mind that I am quite clueless when it comes to IT, and will need step-by-step instructions, and so I would be grateful for your patience if you are able to help with my problem.

To change the display brightness on a laptop

Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.
Move the slider next to Screen brightness at the bottom of the screen. The brightness changes automatically.

Hello all - first time poster on this forum.

I have a bust up fairly old Intel Celeron 600mhz laptop which could do with a new case/shell (not a bag, it needs the equivalent of a new desktop tower) but I don't know where to find one. I believe this is just a clone of similar laptops made around the same time and the model number is 6133. I was wondering if anybody knew somewhere I could purchase replacement shells/cases and if they stocked a case for this computer.

Everything on the laptop works fine except for a dodgy monitor cable (which would be fixed by moving everything into the new shell) so I don't intend to sell it for parts. I'm also quite experienced in fiddling with computers (my dad's a PC engineer so I've picked up quite a bit from him) and he is willing to help me get this laptop into tip top condition again.

I was also wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the motherboard and processor. At the moment it's a 600mhz intel celeron but I'd rather go with an AMD athlon of some sort as I believe them to be generally better. If anybody knows where I can purchase laptop motherboards to fit certain needs any help there would be gladly appreciated (am looking for a socket A motherboard). If the upgrade to Athlon is not possible I would like to know what the upgradability of my current motherboard is - I shall be looking inside the laptop within the next few days and can probably provide a number for it.

I think that with a fe... Read more

Howdy and welcome to the Forum.

Have you contacted the Manufacturer regarding replacement parts? That's where I would start.

BUT to be honest, although you do not give all the specs of the PC, I'd be willing to bet that you could replace the whole thing with a new laptop cheaper than replacing parts like case, MOBO, Processor, RAM, and HD !!!

So unless there is some "sentimental value", like the case broke stopping a bullet shot at you by terrorists...I'd shop for a new unit.

Basically I am just building my new pc and need to get a copy of windows 7. I plan to get windows 7 home premium 64-bit OEM edition. When i went to buy it for 73 i noticed there was a link advertising it for 43. This is from Amazon. The only difference i can see is that this one is refurbished. Just wondering what this means, since it only has one use so how can it be refurbished? does it mean they have just re-used an old disc and got a new product key for it? is this legit or is i better to get the full price new version? thanks for any help.

A:Refurbished windows 7 question

A refurbished OEM would be illegal since the OEM version cannot legally be re-used as it is tied to the specific hardware.
I would steer well clear.
