Laptop that can run Skyrim on Ultra Graphics

Q: Laptop that can run Skyrim on Ultra Graphics

Hello everyone. I was hoping you all may know of an excellent laptop that can handle or
run The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC game on Ultra settings smoothly?

From a few hours of searching, I have come across a few laptop brands and models
backed up by actual videos showing that it can handle the game with High or Ultra settings.
I am going to put all that I found in a list below and would like to know which one you
think would be the best one out of the bunch. I know prices will vary and some of these
are no longer in stock, but I may still be able to find them elsewhere, so I will still include those too.

If you all have any suggestions on a laptop outside of this list, do let me know.
I was hoping the price range could be below $1,000. I will try to include links to
each one so that you can compare the specs faster instead of having to search each one up.

They say on most of these videos that the recording program they use to record their game play causes the skips and makes the FPS drop by 10 or so.

HP Pavilion DV6-6135DX ------> Video showing this on High Settings, not Ultra

Toshiba Satellite S55-A5294 ----> An older version that can run Battlefield 3 on Ultra
Toshiba Qosmio X505 ------> Video Showing Ultra Settings

Acer Aspire V5-572P-6858 -----> An older model running on High Settings
Acer aspire 5560-sb613 ---> High and Ultra side by side comparison

ASUS K55 Series K55N-DB81 -----> Not Skyrim, but plays Black Ops 2 almost on Max settings
Asus G750JW -----> Skyrim on Ultra Settings

ASUS N550JV-DB71 ----> World of Tanks Ultra Settings

__________

Someone mentioned on another forum if you had these specs with the laptop, then you could easily run Skyrim this way.

If I were you I would look for a gaming laptop with the following specs (or better):

Proc: Core i7-2720QM
Mem: 8Gb
Storage: SSD
GPU: 6970m or better
Display: 1080p

____________

I suppose Ultra settings is not a necessity but would be REALLY nice.
High settings would be the acceptable minimum if possible for under $1,000.
I know that you could build a nice desktop that can easily do this for that
price but the person I am researching this for would prefer "mobility".

I am looking forward to your all's responses. I may even post links up of the
videos showing these Laptops in action with these settings.

I will check back often when I can. Have a great weekend!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can find laptops for gaming. And as you noted, you will pay more for a laptop over a desktop, sometimes as much as twice the price. And while it's nice to have a mobile computer, it's only mobile in the sense that it's easy to pick up and move about. Run time on battery power is very short when you are stressing the hardware and gaming machines are more likely to experience heat related issues. Just a few things to stress to your friend before spending the money and learning the hard way.

Of course. Games need about 3 cores now adays, Crysis 2 BF3, use up about 60 percent of total CPU power. Your CPU and RAM is more then enough. I just bought the skyrim legendary edition on the steam summer sale, and it cannot detect my Nvidia graphics card. It's a GeForce 630M. In my Nvidia settings, i have TESV.exe set to use my Nvidia, and yet when I click on "Options" on the launcher, it tells me I have my Integrated dell 4000 graphics card or whatever it is. Is there a way to fix this? (Nvidia settings and Launcher options are attachments)

A:Skyrim not detecting my graphics card

What make of laptop do you have? You probably have a machine with a built in graphics chipset and a faster nvidea chip which can be swapped between them. See manufacturers website on how to disable the builtin chipset.

Hello everyone,

I have an Alienware Desktop computer which I purchased 2 years ago and runs current games pretty well. Here's my specs:

Processor

CPU_Name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
CPU_DataWidth: 64Bits

Video Adapter

Video_Caption: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Video_AdapterRAM: 1792MB

Hard Drive(s)

Disk_Size: 500 GB

Basically, I really love both the Elder Scrolls series and the Battlefield series and they have new games coming out in a month or two. I was wondering if I could have some feedback on whether I would need to update my graphics card or not?

I've been on the NVidia website and had a look at the comparison between GTX 260 and the GTX 560 Ti and saw the following chart. I know this is mostly advertising to entice individuals to upgrade, but I would prefer an unbiased opinion.

I don't have massively deep pockets because I'm a student but was considering using birthday cash for the following because it is more in my price range: http://www.ebuyer.com/253958-gigaby...r5-dual-dvi-mini-hdmi-out-pci-e-gv-n560oc-1gi. But if I'm not going to see much improvement from my current hardware, I obviously don't want to have to upgrade.

Comments very much appreciated - thank you all in advance.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Hello. I am hoping to build a nice system sometime used for gaming and have chosen a cpu
and video card that I believe will handle games smoothly on Ultra settings with graphical mods installed.

The cpu is an Intel Core i7 4770k. I am not interested in over clocking it, so not sure if you all may know of a better cpu for around the same price? I am open to ideas.

The video card is an EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4gb version which I found that certain graphical mods require more VRam, so I am going for 4gb instead of 2gb.

I was just wondering if you all believe the i7 would bottleneck this video card at stock? or would there be any way to tell? Could a motherboard also hinder any of the 2 components' features or abilities in performing at their best or is it strictly cpu/gpu that should be the main concern?

Having slower DDR3 RAM will not cause the GDDR5 VRam to under perform? or do these have nothing to do with one another?

Thank you for more information regarding these things. The main game I am going to be playing is Skyrim at Ultra 1920x1080 using ENB Boost/Climates of Tamriel plus other graphical mods. I may even host big battles like you see others do on YouTube, so hopefully all of that will or can run smoothly too with these graphical mods.
Again, I am open to suggestions if you believe there are better components for around the same price that can better handle or can give the best performance in maxed out, graphical modded, big battles, Skyrim.

I tried out skyrim with a few mods. I can do ultra with no mods on 1920 X 1080 and really smooth. but i tried putting on just a few mods some of which i know tax the graphic and others i am not sure if they do or not and i had to drop to medium settings just to run it without graphical lag/stuttering, and that seems counter-productive when trying to make the visuals better. Is it? Is it better to have hd textures but graphics settings on medium or deafault skyrim textures with graphics settings on ultra? The mods I have: Skyrim HD Textures. Better Females. xenius character enhancement. CBBE never nude. jaysus swords. and a few content mods that i know don't tax the graphics. should i lower the resolution and then my lappy might play it on high or ultra? or would that even be worth it and still give graphical improvement but no stuttering during gameplay? Thanks all.

2) I get a black screen in normal mode if my graphics card has its drivers installed.

Acer Aspire was working. After installing 11.11b update for AMD 5670 graphics card, Skyrim crashed my laptop. I got a black screen at the enter your password screen.
I have removed drivers in safe mode and can then get into normal mode. However once I did so my Norton 360 was inactive, like it had never been setup and I cant access the internet; specifically the wireless adapter wont enable.

I have since uninstalled Norton, turned off all uneccessary programs through msconfig-startup and still have no internet in normal mode. The icon at the bottom right wont refresh or show any net connections. IIn properties of my wireless adapters the drivers are showing as working, but I cant access 'status' or enable the card. Back in safe mode I can enable the card. My Graphics card drivers automically install but then I need to remove them to get back into normal mode.

Help needed to a) get net in normal mode

Yesterday I started getting BSOD on start up of both of my video games, Skyrim and DragonAge. These have both run fine on my system prior to yesterday. I have tried uninstalling drivers for the graphics card and installing the latest, the 2nd most latest, and a beta version, just trying to get something to work. I have also tried this:

The problem is caused by your graphics driver. Run Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU)
Make sure you tick the Uninstall C:/AMD and C:/NIVIDA folders while you are in DDU when you are done running DDU install your graphics driver again and you should be good to go! This is the guide for DDU: Display Driver Uninstaller: How to use

Remember to remove Catalyst and only install the graphics driver.
and other variations from multiple threads found in this forum.
Nothing that I have tried is working, still BSOD'ing while trying to run video games. Any new ideas?

Hi,

I was playing Skyrim last weekend, and the game froze on a black screen just as it was cutting to a kill animation. I had to restart the computer but when Windows loaded I had a BSOD. The computer booted fine up till this point.

I've been looking up causes and fixes all week, and the dump files seem to suggest a 0x116 Video_TDR_error. I've attached all the requested information.

I've already tried installing several different graphics drivers - the newest, the one supplied with the card, and one between. Windows and DirectX were fully up to date. I've also tried formatting the hard drive and installing Windows fresh, twice. I've had the computer back to the state it arrived in, when the drivers worked fine, and I've tried it with only the video drivers installed. Everything I try now is still resulting in the same BSOD

I can only get Windows to load in Safe Mode, or if I go into Device Manager and disable my graphics card. I am now fairly convinced the card itself is the problem, and I'm looking for confirmation before I go and get a new one fitted.

My spec is:

AMD Phenom II X4 3.5 GHz
ASUS M4A87TD motherboard
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
650W PSU

The computer was new at the end of November. I had the same Windows install since then, but now I'm running a fresh install.

Any extra information needed please ask.

Thanks in advance

A:BSOD after playing Skyrim - faulty graphics card?

To check the graphics card and your hardware:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

First of all, this is going to be quite the tl;dr, so a big thanks to anyone who even takes time to read it.

I built my first rig in May, a mid to high grade gaming machine. Got it running successfully, everything seemed great until I started trying to play games. Oblivion was the first one. I started getting random blue screens from time to time. I thought it was my graphics card, so I sent it in for a replacement. Boom. Problem solved. Not another issue.

Several months later Skyrim comes out. Now I'm running into the same issue. Random blue screens. I've started investigating the error codes (I did not do this the first time around, just assumed it was a hardware issue and solved the problem.) Usually, it is a 0x07a error, KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, the offending file seeming to be ntoskrnl.exe. Sometimes other files will be in error as well, or I'll get a 0x0f4 CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION, but ntoskrnl.exe is always the error. Disk check goes fine, no error. Every test I do on the hard drive turns out okay. I have not tested both sticks of my ram, but I tested one of them with no errors and tried running the system on the one good stick, still getting a blue screen when I play Skyrim. I thought my graphics card or CPU might be overheating, so I bought a couple more fans. Keeping the system cooler has not helped either. Sometimes I would get a ntsf.sys error in my BSOD, so I wondered if my hard drive was bad, even though it passed the tests. I was also hearing what cou... Read more

Hi all =). I'm getting a computer made with a 450w power supply. I'm getting a Geforce 6800 Ultra at least, but the company recommends a 480w supply for this card. I've heard of people having problems with their power supply not being able to cope with this card, but I don't know exactly at what power their power supplies ran. Will I run into any problems with the power supply I'm getting, or should I upgrade to 480w or more?

Don't know if you need this information also, but I think this may also effect my power supply:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB pc3200 DDR Ram
120 GB HDD

Also heard that AMD uses less power than Intel or something...sooo I was thinking that perhaps my graphics card will not be affected as much because of this...but dunno. Help would be greatly appreciated =D.

A:Regarding Geforce 6800 Ultra, Ultra Extreme, or Asus v9999 Ultra Deluxe

One, Use a title once.

Two, nope nVIDIA GeForce 6800 families or newer REQUIRES 480w of psu minimum, PERIOD. it is not matter how much watts amd or intel uses, what you means that you must have 480w or higher to have GF 6800 working properly.

Recommendation, get ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9800XT, they merely used up less than 350w.

You will get better games or things out of ATI instead of nVIDIA due to power usages

I bought an HP Pavillion DV6 around 2 years ago. Recently I started gaming but I have been limited to the older games that run better on my laptop. I recently bought The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim off steam because it was on sale for $5 (what a deal!). My laptop hardly runs it on the lowest settings with all other applications closed. The movement is choppy and all around terrible. I was wondering if there are any upgrades I can purchase or any settings I can change in order to make it run a little better? Few details about the computer, Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450 CPU @2.50GHz, RAM: 8.00GB, 64bit OS. I really don't know much about computers so I don't know if any of this is relevant... Thanks in advance!

A:Is there anyway to make my laptop run Skyrim better?

With having integrated graphics (not a dedicated graphics card), you will most likely never get Skyrim to play properly. Most Laptop computers cannot be upgraded like desktop computer. You are limited to what the manufacture allows you to upgrade (in your case it is just RAM). If you truly want to play Skyrim on your laptop, I would suggest the following settings for running the game:

Resolution: 1280x720 (if this is still choppy - drop to 1024x768 or 800x600)
Antialiasing : OFF
Anisotropic Filtering: OFF
Texture Quality: MEDIUM
Radial Blur Quality: LOW
Shadow Detail: LOW
Decal Quantity: NONE
FXAA: UNCHECKED
ALL Water (Reflect Land/Trees/Objects/Sky): UNCHECKED

Hope this answers your questions. Let us know how this works out for you.

Hello!  I recently purchased an Ultra Slim Desktop 8300 and I am looking into upgrading the graphics in it.   Currently, I just have the I5-3570S Cpu and using the intel graphics.  I've been trying to find an MXM graphics card for it since I found that's what it takes.   I can find the card easily, but I can't find even one heatsink!   A lot of the cards come with a heatsink but it's for a HP laptop.   From what I can find, it appears HP originally offered the computer with the Radeon 7650A card.   So I actualy have 3 questions. 1.  Anyone have any ideas where I could find a heatsink for this?   I've looked at some pictures and it almost looks like the CPU heatsink that's made for this computer would fit on the 7650A, but I don't know for sure.  I can't find ANY specifically for it!2. I also read one post from someone in a forum somewhere online a few days ago that they managed to use another brand of card in this PC,   I think it was an NVIDIA card.   I don't understand why it would be limited... If it's an MXM card i'd think it would work.  And also, if I went this route, I read that person also had a 185 (or somewhere around there) watt power supply.   I have the basic 135W adapter.3.  Another option I have considered is upgrading to the i7 chip that is compatible wiht this model.   If memory recalls, it's the i7-3770s.  I read that it has a better GPU built in than the i5, but in the... Why the hell can't my computer run flash games without 2 milisecond pauses every one to three seconds? It runs Skyrim flawlessly. I suppose it is quite old, but either ways, this is strange. It happened with my old desktop too. After it got old, I could run an MMO smooth, but once it came to flash games it just "lagged". It doesn't run a sensible framerate, and inexplicably freezes for the duration of about a milisecond every few seconds.

i'm new to this so sorry if it is in the wrong place.
yesterday my disc copy of TES: Skyrim arrived and i installed it on my laptop. it was lae at night when i installed it so i left it till this morning to try out. anyway i loaded it up and the screen was moving but it was fractured and broken. i searched on the internet to find out why and came across this: Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements. it said all was fine except my dedicated video ram was too low. it requires a minimum of 512mb, but my laptop only has 128mb. i was wondering if it was at all possible to increase this via download, installing stuff, or via external plug-ins.
please help!!!!
i'm a bit of a computer noob so if possible could you use small basic words

Hi,

Skyrim runs fine, and then it goes into an episode for 30 seconds where it goes slow and laggy, then goes back to normal again. It usually does this when there is a lot going. I.E. If I am getting attacked by an enemy, or I am crossing a huge waterfall..

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers.

Now I have been trying to run Skyrim on all the minimum settings and it just will not reach a usable frame rate. I am using the M11X from Alienware with all the original manufacturer components. I do not know a whole lot about computers but it seems that the problem is with my video card. The Geforce GT 335M. Is there anything I can do to increase performance, short of having to purchase new equipment entirely?

Hi, I've had my Y-400 for years now and love it.  Recently I started having issues and eventually discovered that the graphics card (GT 650M) has a code 43 error and is disabled.  I've tried all the solutions for that (static discharge, reinstall drivers, update BIOS, etc) but haven't been able to get it to work.   So to keep my computer going, I bought a GT 750M graphics card for my ultrabay slot (it actually is for newer models of the laptop series, but I took the cover off and it seems compatible).  I've got it in and I've tried downloading the drivers but I can't get it to show up in device manager.  Have I skipped a step?  Is there more to do?  Does my first graphics card need to be functioning or can I just rely on this one?  Is SLI something I need? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Jeremy

My work laptop is a T460 Ultrabook Thinkpad. I have the compatible docking station. It's a pain in the backside just to get the silly thing to connect to another display while the lid is open ... but this thing WILL NOT do something that countless laptops have been able to do for over a decade: Connect to two monitors at the same time while on a docking station with the laptop lid closed -- ThinkPad Pro docking station in case it matters.. I'm successfully connecting to one monitor via the DiplayPort on the docking station. No matter what I try, I can't get another monitor to connect.  Here's what I've already tried: 1. Updated Chipset.2. Updated Bios.3. Updated Graphics Card Driver. 4. I've connected the second monitor to the DVI port on the docking station. 5. I've connected the second monitor to the laptop HDMI port. 6. I've tried multiple cables.7. Verified that the same setup works just fine on an older Lenovo laptop and older docking station.  And my amazing not-so-ultra laptop still gives me no option to connect to another monitor. When I go into the Intel Control Panel, there is nothing there even suggesting that Multiple Diplays are possible. I'm just not believing that Lenovo built a high end laptop that can't connect to two monitors at the same time while on a compatible docking station with the laptop lid closed. There's got to be a solution for this.

Hello, Please can someone help me to find a good graphics card for my pc, the model is: HP Compaq Elite 8300 Ultra-slim PC. I want to play Counterstrike Source and it plays OK at the moment, but the graphics don't look very good. Because the PC is so small, I think it needs some kind of modified graphics card and none of the models on page http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/desktops/product-detail.html?oid=5232866#!tab=models doesn't suggest a graphics card. Thanks for your help, Luke

Hi, so I got this problem with my new laptop. My graphic card driver and DirectX is updated, yet my the enviroment in games looks blurry and pixelated... even on the ultra high settings. Isn't it something with resolution? My laptop recommends me using 1920x1080 and scale 125%. It can be seen on this screenshot from Kingdom Come: Deliverance on ULTRA HIGH settings, but it also happens in Witcher 3. In game objects that are close are not blurred or pixelated.

My T460 had been working perfectly with the Ultra Dock and a 4K display, until I installed the new Intel 520 HD Graphics Driver in January. Since then the display will show vertical false color lines when connected through the DP on the dock. It also has random noise when connected using the HDMI port on the dock. The monitor works perfectly when connected to either the Mini DP or HDMI ports on the T460, itself.  I have tested this with two other Ultra Docks to make sure it is not a dock issue. I also have two T460 laptops, and the one with the old driver, 23.xxxx, works but the one with the new driver, 25.20.100.6472, fails.  If I reinstall the driver it woks for an hour or so and then fails. I cannot use the drivers from the Intel site since they say my driver is OEM specific. I need Lenovo to EITHER give me access to the previous driver OR fix the current driver.

Hi guys, back after a few months away from this great site/forum.

I have a question regarding the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard I was searching all over the web but can't seem to find out if this motherboard will support the new AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU? It says it supports the AMD 64 & 64 FX CPUs, but what about AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU?

If anyone here can help me out, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

A:CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

Can I put an Ultra ATA hard drive in a laptop that used a SATA hard drive. The reason I want to do this is because a friend's laptop won't boot , not even in safe mode,( imo the hard drive is nackered) and of course there was no backup done. The files are needed. Now of course you'll say why not use Acronis to transfer the files to an external HDD but the problem there is that none of my friends laptops USB ports are working( haven't checked this but I'm assured it is true), so there is now way to connect an ex. HDD to it. What I'm thinkin of doin is putting the HDD into an old laptop of mine and using Acronis to transfer the files to CD or an external hdd.

What ye think? I'm inexperieced with laptops so please be gentle if this is a stupid post.

A:Can I put an Ultra ATA drive in a laptop

It is possible that you might be able to connect an ATA HDD to the buss where the CD/ DVD drive is connected. Whether that is SATA or PATA is anybody's guess.

Although, if the Laptop's HDD is broken, I'm not exactly sure what you think you're going to accomplish by doing so. If it's dead, it's dead, and that would require the drive to be dealt with data recovery methods. Very expensive.

Plan "B" involves running a cable to a desktop from the laptop, and offloading the data that way.

However, dead is dead, be forewarned

My hard drive recently went on me, so I ordered a new one. I guess I did it kind of hastily, since upon its arrival today, I came to find out that it is an SATA hard drive, while my laptop only furnishes an Ultra-ATA (44 pin) connection. DOH! My question is: does anyone know if an adaptor exists which would allow me to use this new hard drive on my laptop? And if so, any ideas where I might be able to get it? I did find that such adaptors exist for desktop computers, but haven't been able to find anything for the laptop. I've also found the universal USB adaptors, but that won't help either due to the fact that this will be my primary/only drive, and needs to be bootable. Any help here would be appreciated, I'm really trying to avoid returning this thing.

Thanks in Advance!

Hello,
I have an XPS15 laptop (it says Reg Model P56F under the XPS door at the bottom).  This laptop is extremely sensitive to vibrations, hits or jolts to its case.   For example it can be running normally, but if you drop a pen or pencil, onto the keyboard area, it will freeze.  If you have it in your lap and rotate around a chair and it bumps the edge of a desk... it will freeze.  If you bump it into anything, chances are it freezes.  Usually it freezes with a scrambled screen, sometimes portions of the scrambled bits are flickering or moving, like an old NES game that you had to blow on the cartridge before it played.  Sometimes it freezes with the screen going black (but the backlight remains on).   The only way to recover is to hold down the power button until the laptop turns off.  Then you can power it back on and wait 5 minutes at the Windows 10 Please Wait... spinning circle until you can log in again.

I've already had the laptop sent out for this issue.  It came back with an upgraded 4k touch screen.  I love the screen, its such a great, free upgrade.  But the problem persists.  It's not AS sensitive as it was when it had the regular 1920x1080 matte screen.  Before you could drop a pen NEXT to the laptop and that small of a vibration would cause the freeze.  Now you can bang on the table as much as you want, and as long as you don't touch the actual laptop, it remains oper... Hi,
I just got a flip video camera Ultra and shot a few videos. When I plugged the USB cable into my Toshiba laptop (I use windows vista if that matters) and double clicked on the icon in "My computer", it said I had to format the disc. Ive had this happen before with other things, I don't remember what they were though unfortunately. So I clicked "format" and when I did a box popped up alerting me that by formatting the disc, it would erase everything on it.

I cant afford to loose the videos I have on my flip cam. Is there some way to get the videos to upload onto my laptop without formatting the camera or as my computer calls is, the disc? When i read the info that came with the flip video camera, it said that some software was supposed to open and install when I plugged the USB into my laptop, but nothing popped up. I had to open up "my computer" and find the camera icon.

Also just to clarify, this is a Flip Ultra, not an HD.
This is a link to it on amazon:
