Preferred Solution: which wires go where on my mobo?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Building a new computer
Okay everything came and I am almost ready to start building the computer. I was told if I needed any help that you guys would be able to help me. So here goes.
Like I said before I'm not afraid of anything but the power supply cords. There is awire from the from part of the case that looks something like thisIt's a striped wire with 4 pronges at the end of it that plugs in somewhere. Each one has something written on it:
1. Power Led (the largest)
2. HDD Led
3. Reset Led
4. power SW
It des not say in the mobo book where these go but I'm pretty sure that I need to plug them in somewhere.
In case you need it, this might help lol. This is where you can find the mobo. I know it's not a great one but for a 9 year old I thought it might work. If not I can always gett another one. It was very inexpensive not that money is not object but I figured if I screwed it up I would out less than $50.00.

I recently bought an asrock mobo and an amd cpu to replace my intel setup. I installed the mobo and the cpu and hooked everything up except for the wires for the case's front panel stuff. I don't really care about the sound and usb cables, but I do need to hook up the power and reset buttons but the wires are labeled differently than in the mobo manual. The manual says they should be plugged in in this order:
pled+ pled- pwrbtn# gnd
hdled+ hdled- gnd reset# dummy

but the case wires are in 4 different groups, and labeled: vcc, vcc1, vcc2, data+1, data-1, data+2, data-2, tpa-, tpa+, tpb-, tpb+, and gnd. Any idea which wires mean what? Any help is appreciated

A:asrock mobo and case wires

Welcome.

Ok, on your mobo, the pled is the power led, the light that indicates that the system is on, the hdled is the light that shows hard drive activity, the pwrbutn is the power on switch, and the gnd reset is your reset switch.

Ok, the case has odd names, but you can find out what each wire does by following the wire to where it goes. For example, if you follow a wire and it ends up at the power switch, then that wire would go on the pwrbutton headers on the board. The power button is likely the only button that "needs" to be connected to get it to work, and it doesn't really matter which way the two wires go on the mobo pins for pwrbutn. Do the same procedure for the other wires and you'll find the hd led, power led and reset switch cables, connect them accordingly. Led's do matter which way the wires are on the pins, as they have a + and -. You can probably assume if, for instance you find that two wires go to the hd ld, and the one wire is marked -, then connect it to the hdled- pin, and the other wire to the + pin.

Hope this helps.

The wires you list for the case are probaby usb and firewire connections, I think you should have other wires that connect to the power switch, because the ones you list, should go to the case's front usb and firewire(if your board has it) headers.

Hi! I posted a question yesterday about how to ID a mobo b/c I had disconnected the power/reset wires on sister's desktop and did not have mobo manual. Never thought to ask how to reconnect the wires & totally bypass the mobo ID.

See picture.
There is one wide wire that is made up of 8 wires that are divided into groups of two. Wires are labeled (starting from the left)
1st group of wires: white& black – labeled “POWER SW”
2nd group of wires: white& orange – labeled “RESET SW”
3rd group of wires: white& yellow – labeled “H.D.D. LED”
Then a single white wire –not labeled
The last wire - a single green wire –not labeled

See picture for pins & table
There are 9 metal pins sticking out of a small, black, plastic rectangle with 10 holes.
The top row has 4 pins w/ the vacant hole being the last one on the right.
The bottom row has 5 pins

Then on the mobo there is a small corresponding table to the left of the pins:
Right above the table on the left, the text reads “SW1”
1-3, H.D.D LED
2-4, SUS-LED
5-7, RESET
6-8, PWR-SW

There is also a pic of the power/reset buttons on the front of the tower.

Thanks in advance for any help!

A:HELP-Inserted Wires wrong way on mobo usb controller

connecting a usb device to a uab port that is wired incorrectly can and usually does reult in breaking the USB device particularly mice and flash drives. it can also damge the usb port itself. your mouse is probably toast and even if it could be fixed it would cost more to do so then it would simply to buy a new mouse.

if you need more usb ports then you best option is probably to invest in a Usb 2.0 PCI card.

Hi all,

Just a small question im looking to add a fan to my comp to exhaust the heat out, the only fan i can get has 1 red and 1 black wire (about 20cm long) coming out of it, im at ends on how i would install it in the computer as i heard that fans come with 3 pin connectors or something that simply you plug into the motherboard.

Thanks for any help.

A:Fan- with 2 wires?

A standard fan just has the power lead (red and black), others are designed to plug on to the board and as such can be either controlled or monitored by the motherboard, these can have 3 wires.

To connect a standard 2 pin plug you can either feed it directly from one of the molex plugs using an adaptor cable or see if your board has a 2 pin power socket.

Im no expert in modding and cooling, this is based on general use of a PC.

I have two laptops, both are Dell. One is a older Inspiron, and the other is an XPS. I have dialup internet, and the Inspiron has a dialup modem, and the XPS doesn't. What I have to do to get internet is network with a Ethernet cable, one from another. The Inspiron doesn't have a Wireless Modem built in, but I have a USB card for it.
What I have to do for internet as it is, is connect the dialup with the Inspiron, and with the Ethernet cable, I have internet with the XPS.
What I want to know is if it is possible to use the Inspiron to create a Wireless network that has internet capability for my Dell XPS to connect to the dialup wirelessly throughout my house.
If this is possible, how do I go about doing this?

I got AT&T Dryloop Internet a few months ago, but about 3 weeks ago my Internet suddenly stopped working. I found out later that the cord that runs under the house had been cut all the way through in a couple places; it's like someone intentionally crawled under there and cut them. Now I'm faced w/ a huge bill to get an AT&T repair person to fix it. If anyone could give me some advice on what to do or alternatives, that would be great.

A:Help! My Wires Have Been Cut

like any DSL, "dry loop" (which just means there is no voice line on the phone service) is run over copper wire. In homes, this is usually insulated and shielded wire with four interior wires called "two pair," again typically with red, green, yellow, and black. Chances are you are using the red and green. If the colors don't match, don't worry. Just make sure you connect the same wires to the same terminals.

Go to Radio Shack or your local hardware store and get an inline connector for outdoor use. Simply connect one color from one side of the cut to the same color on the other side of the cut, and all should be well.

You can splice the wires directly, but that could cause more line noise than you want.

Alternatively, just re-wire the connection from your phone box to the wall. Red to red, green to green.

Remember that phone wires are "hot" and run at low voltage, so if you corss live wires you will get a but of a wake up call -- nothing big and sure as heck not like 120V current, but stronger than putting your tongue on a nine volt.

While you are at the hardware store, you can buy a wire tester that plugs into the jack and tells you if you have the wires hooked up correctly or not. Just don't plug anything into the jack until it tests positively, and you are good to go. Crossing phone wires is not by any means the end of the world, and nothing will happen while you are testing.

There is no point in trying the wires randomly. You will end up with a fried USB device.

Look up the pinout of the USB header for your motherboard that will tell you what signal goes to what pin. It should be somewhere in the manual or on the manufacturers website.

Okay I will detail this fully.. Yesterday I had a wireless-g connection from my basement to my bedroom. Today I took 100ft. of Cat5e and ran it from an internet slot on my wireless router to my PC's ethernet port..

However the PC upstairs doesn't detect the signal. My router does have a green light on the internet slot that I plugged the cable into but I must be missing something on my upstairs PC. I installed my onboard nVidia ethernet driver but still don't get a connection. Maybe there's something I don't know how to do regarding a wireless router's Wired connections, does the PC need the routers software installed or something?

title says it all. i was messing around with electric sheep the screen saver application and i had been hearing my second hdd shutting off and turning back on which used to happen to me like 8 months ago but I hadnt seen it since then. So the hard drive shut off and the front led's started to flicker and my temp gauge went blank. my current window said (not responding) and I started to smell the worst smell ever. burning electronics

I looked to the open side of my computer the left side and saw smoke barreling out so i immediately pulled the power cord out. after the smoke cleared I panic'd and when through everything i thought could be wrong.

I unplugged the hard drive and thought it might be that since I had trouble with it before. I unplugged the dvd drives just to be on the safe side and causiously turned it back on 5 hours later and again, it began to load windows xp but a few seconds later I smelt the smoke again and pulled it back out.

I did notice that one of the issues was the flickering led on the front of my computer so i opened the panel and examined the exposed cables on the front which were hot to the touch which isnt normal. upon taking the back panel of my case off I noticed the wire leading to the front led was all bubbly and fried. the cord had soldered itself to 3 other wires (one being the temp gauge).

so now I know the effect but where is the cause? is this a problem with my power supply or was it a faulty cord? i mean its worked ... Read more

A:Smoking wires

It sounds like your power supply is faulty. Chances are really good with that much voltage/current going through the board, enough to melt a wire coming off the LED header, that your board is toast as well. You might get lucky, though. I've seen a power supply melt it's wires (well, they actually caught fire) and the motherboard survived.

Hi. I recently opened up my PC to check on some connections, and in order to get at them I took out my TV tuner card. I discovered, much to my amazement and shock, that the Cable TV coaxial cable was "buzzing". It seemed to be vibrating slightly, and I felt a tingling sensation on my finger, as if there were some electric current running through the cable that was strong enough to be very noticable, but not dangerous. This was on the outer sleeve. I took the cable by the plastic coating to try to put it back on the TV tuner's jack, and the inner "spike" made a small spark when it touched the tuner's jack. Now, I know that there is obviously some current running through a cable wire to transmit the picture, but I have NEVER seen a wire with this much electricity, and am pretty "freaked out". I'd like to know what this could mean, and what to do about it. Thanks!

A:Buzzing wires, help please!

This is a symptom of an improperly grounded cable system. My advice to you is to contact your cable provider and get it check into.

Hello everyone! So I have an HP Notebook g2 and recently the part of the metal that connects the monitor part towards the keyboard and everything else was destroyed. No problem however since I could still use it. However, after a while the monitor had stopped working (or rather it is faint and I can see it if I flash a light over it but barely), when I looked into the wires that were hidden where that piece of metal once was some of the wires were cut and it seems they will no longer work. My question is  what are those wires, and what can I do to fix it? My warrenty already expired so I just want to buy anything I need to before sending it to a friend.

A:My monitor wires are cut...

Hi, I've got no idea what is your machine. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108 Knowing your machine, I may be able to send you part list and you can work out what is it. Specially what is the metal part which I have no clue at all.Regards.

Take a look at this image

I have two similar headsets like these.

Headset A: I play a game that requires for me to hear where a gun shot is being fired from so I can't use this one. NO malfunction

Headset B: Incoming audio I can't hear because the wire for it got messed up somehow

Solution: Is it possible for me to cut the INCOMING AUDIO wire "green" I think, on both Headsets, strip them down from the black layer, and then tie the wires together? I've heard of people doing this but wasn't sure.

A:Connecting Wires

You could probably solder them together. But keep in mind inside the green wire there is more than one wire.

I have a Gigabyte G-VAX MB but can't find the manual to connect the case wires. The motherboard is virtually impossible to read and the PDF manuals I've downloaded are not much help either. Could someone help me with this, maybe a good blown-up diagram? My eyes ain't what they used to be!

Thanks,
Gary

There's probably quite a few here at TSG with that problem. I purchased a good pair of reading glasses, a decent magnifying glass, & a small but very bright LED flashlight. It also helps if you have good natural light from a window. I often use the kitchen counter as a work area. Plenty of natural & artificial light available.

Having a patient helper to assist with holding a light & has younger eyes is a plus.

Getting a respectable blowup MB pic will probably require considerable Google searching.

I'm currently in the process of creating a 15-17m long cat5 ethernet connection between two 10/100 hubs. Only problem is, after connecting both ends with the RJ45 connectors and plugging one end into the uplink port and the other into the other hubs standard port I am getting constant collisions. My HUBS manual refers that this is due to faulty wiring however I've checked both ends of wire with the ethernet tester which has verified that all 8 pins are connected with no non-parralell wires! Could another problem have caused this, I've heard that pushing the wires to far into the connector can cause problems and by the looks of it I have......

A:Help me Crimp my Wires!!

Normally to connect 2 network devices, you'll need to use a crossover cable. Some network devices have uplink ports that contain an internal crossover allowing a standard patch cable to work. You may want to try creating a crossover cable and see if that solves your issue.

Check this HOWTO(littlewhitedog.com) on how to make crossover cables.

i have a wireless router and two wireless cards for two computers. can i connect my cable modem to my router transfer the connection to both machines.
if so how? im really stuck heh

A:Networking with no wires. can it be done ?

I'm trying to understand what you want. If you have 2 cards already for 2 computers you don't need the cable router unless you are saying tha the cable router is an adsl modem router.

Can you give us a little more detail please? Is the wireless router a router or a adsl router?

What is your overall setup?

Sorry if I posted this on the wrong spot, I'm new, and a novice with computers. Is it possible to reconnect these Wires? I have a Syber Vapor I PC/Console

A:Wires Unplugged, HDD cable

Sure. There are a few ways;
1 Solder the wire to the connector
2 Just get a new connector and splice all four wires using butt splices [this is what I would do]
3 Probably the easiest method. Have you looked to see if you have an unused 4pin connector? If so, that would be the quickest and easiest way to fix the issue.

Howdy Everyone! Can anyone help me with the pwr led, pwr s/w and Hdd Led wires location. I was checking friends computer which I know the psu is dead and pretty sure motherboard is too. I opened the case just checking all wires and connections. I pulled the wires coming from switch on mobo, I thought it was one plug well I pulled it was three seperated wires pwr led pwr s/w and hdd led. Now not sure how they go back poor me. on board where the wires goes there are lots of pins only a couple are used for the power switch and led. A picture or text would be a big help. Or does it matter where they go? Thanks and Have a great day. Todd

A:T2682 Led/Switchboard Wires

Usually the pins are labeled on the board itself but it can be a little tricky to get them working correctly sometimes. The motherboard's manual should have a diagram of how the wires go. You can probably go to the manufacturer's site and download a .pdf of the manual. I'm guessing that's an eMachines system? They usually have their manuals available for download, try here:

Hi All,

Well....things were not looking pretty this morning but they are looking up a little...just not as spiffy as I would like. I started out with the obnoxious pop ups....tried ad-aware, spy-bot and was running Mcafee and all were current. Still they got me! Ugh.......

Installed Panda and did a total scan, hopefully got out all the crud, Panda says OK, ran everything again and all OK. Not getting any pop ups but want to check the log.

Some of the things I am seeing are making me a little bit nervous on it!

Thank you very, very much in advance. Love you guys & gals on this site......it's the only site I am comfortable with! Running xp home.

Hello everyone, My first time to use the support forum, and I hope someone can help me.  I have already tried using HP online chat support for this, but I don't think the person handling the call was sure what I was talking about.  Here are the details: I have a Pavillion Elite m9250f that I have been using for a year now, and I was thinking about upgrading the RAM and the video card.  Prior to heading down to Best Buy, I thought I take a look inside the desktop unit and see what it looked like.  I also have an older HP Media Center PC m7077c, and I am used to opening up these cases.  Well, on the m9250f, you have to loose up the top cover (with the nice rubber mat on it) to get the side cover off.  I pulled off the top cover, and what I found left me asking the following: What are these two broken black wires for?  They were attached to these two unique metal looking pieces (with the number 301000031517 on them).  One was located near the front, and one located at the back.  I followed the rest of the wires to a circuit board right above the system fan mounted on the back of the case.  Anybody know what these things are for?  I have been in many a case before, but I have never seen anything like these.  Also, I didn't notice any resistance when pulling off the top beizel, so I don't know if I broke them, or if they were already broke.  Nothing in the servicing manual mentioned any warnings about ... A:I broke two black wires...what do they do?

They're probably for the power switch. Does it light up? Does it blink when there is hard drive activity. Does it turn yellow when in sleep mode?To remove the side cover on your computer all you need to do is remove the two large thumb screws on the back and pull the side cover back and then away from the computer. Hope this information helps.

Dell Inspiron 2200 has a Dell 1370 wireless card installed. Unbale able to connect to WAP with little or no signal sitting 1 Foot away from WAP. Discovered the wires connected to the wireless care have been cut just below the screen. Need help in finding the wires that connect to the wreless cad and were they connect behind the laptop screen. Thanks

A:Cut Wireless Card Wires

Are they really cut or do they just stop there. The reason I ask is those wires may be the antennas for the wireless card. They don't always go up into the display and they just dead end. They look like wires but are actually antennas. Is there actually bare wires at the end or are they covered in heat shrink wrap? If you could take a picture and post it it may help.

Do wireless cards act as antenna for both bluetooth and wifi (802.11) in current laptops? I have two Asus and and an HP. Thank you in advance!

A:Share the wires, chillrun

I have a few Notebooks with Wi-Fi and 3 of those with Bluetooth. The Wi-Fi adapter on those 3 also contains the Bluetooth feature, turn Wi-Fi off and Bluetooth is off. I've worked on, and also junked, several Notebooks and the adapter in them had only 2 wires connected to it so would assume both features of the adapter uses only those two wires. The wires feed through from the motherboard alongside the video cable and are fastened on either side of the LCD panel in the housing and across the top, terminating at either side of the camera lens.
