Ideapad resets, 5 months later and Lenovo still won't refund or replace

Q: Ideapad resets, 5 months later and Lenovo still won't refund or replace

(posted in wrong place previously) In December, my laptop starting resetting itself (still in warranty). Its now May, and Lenovo are still refusing to give me a refund or a replacement. I feel I've been very understanding and patient at all the slow failed attempts to deal with the problem, but I'm completely fed up now. I'm a student, so having a reliable laptop is obviously really helpful, but I've spent many weeks of this year without a laptop whilst Lenovo have tried to repair it, and the rest of the time I've had a laptop that resets without warning which means I sometimes lose work even though I save my work regularly and back it up. In January, it was sent to be repaired, they replaced the hard drive, but the problem still kept happening when it came back in February. In February, it was sent to be repaired again. They couldn't replicate the problem so claimed it was working fine (even though I had sent evidence that it wasn't fine, each reset left reports in the reliability monitor about bug report 124 and that it was a hardware error). So they sent it back unchanged after several weeks. Lenovo told me if the problem was still happening that they would refund or replace it.However, when I reported it still did happen, they said actually it was Lenovo's policy that there must be three failed repairs before they would do that.So in March I sent it off again to be repaired, this time they acknowledged again there was a fault, but they just replaced the hard drive. If it happened before even after the hard drive was replaced, I don't understand how they thought changing the hard drive again would somehow fix the problem? No one at Lenovo has explained how this may have helped despite me asking, does anyone have any theories? Either way, it came back in April after this third repair, and the problem still happens, so whilst this was very frustrating, as I had been waiting so long for a solution and the second and third repair attempts seemed doomed to fail, I was at least happy that finally Lenovo would refund the laptop. The case was 'escalated' many weeks ago, but it takes up to a week to get a reply from case managers about the problem. And somehow I seem to have two separate ones, but neither have offered a refund or a replacement yet, despite being told after the second and third repair that I would be offered this. One of them has said I have to have it repaired again, this time by an onsite engineer, and then maybe they'll look into an alternative. Since then I've heard nothing, the engineer hasn't tried to get in touch, and the case manager hasn't answered my various questions or emails. I don't want this repair anyway, I'm fed up of all the failed attempts. I want to know why Lenovo misled me about the three repair policy? Were they lying or mistaken? What is Lenovo's actual policy on refunding a laptop if so many repairs fail? Considering how I've been waiting since 2017 for a solution, what has to happen for me to just be offered a refund? They've hinted if the onsite repair fails then alternative solutions can be looked at, but how do I know they mean it this time, as I was told that when it came back after the second and third repairs? Does anyone have any advice? How do I get them to answer my questions and give me a refund instead of messing me about. I'm leaving the country in a few weeks for a long time and want to be sure I'll have a resolution by then, as I'll need a working laptop with me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I do not know what this laptop is supposed to be able to do but I do know that it is not able to do the things that others claim that it can. Tomorrow is the cut off date for my ability to return it for a full refund or replacement so could anyone please tell me: What is this device supposed to be able to do battery wise? According to a review it can do 9 hours of constant web surfing. Mine can do 7 hours of no screen turn off and no sleep (so constantly on), with battery saver and power saver mode both on, and about an hour and a half of web surfing spread out sporadically throughout the 7 hours. If I constantly web surf it gets maybe 4 to 5 hours of battery. With sporadic use and letting it sleep and turn it's screen off it gets well over 24 hours of battery life. Is this how it is supposed to be? 7 hours of constantly being on with only low, sporadic actual use and over 24 hours if use is low and sporadic and it is allowed to sleep when not being used? Or is it really supposed to be able to get 9 hours of constant web surfing? If it is supposed to get 9 hours of constant use then I clearly have a bad battery and need to take it back! But the Lenovo page for this device says 7 hours and that this depends on many factors, so it sounds like my battery may be just fine and whomever got 9 hours has a lot of luck and that is not the norm for this device. However I have no idea! Please can anyone who knows tell me before tomorrow night so I don'... Read more

Bought my laptop one month ago and yesterday it black screened and is just a paperweight now. Lonovos only solution to selling defective computers is to repair them. What I couldn't get them to understand is that I don't want a broken and repaired laptop, that's not what I paid for. I paid for a no defective computer. You cant give me a broken machine that you band-aided for the same price as a new machine. I just want a replacement or my money back. I feel as if I'm getting screwed over big time here, and that's not how a company should do business. Don't sell me a lemon and then offer to fix it. I didn't want a lemon in the first place. I want what I paid for, a fully functional non defective machine. Lenovo refuses and is keeping the money. Lesson learned.

SUPER FRUSTRATED!!!!! Bought an HP Laptop the end of November. Less than 2 months later I go to turn it on and nothing, dead. Get it sent in for repair, they recieve it 01/30/2017, Estimate to have it back was 02/09/2017. That date has come and gone and I get an E-Mail saying there is a delay. I go in to check the status and my new estimated delivery date is 04/11/2017, OVER 2 MONTHS LATER. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????  I bought this for my business, to use, not to have it in for repair less than 2 months later and then have it gone for over 2 months. I CANNOT believe you actually run a company like this. I WANT A REFUND NOW so that I can go buy a computer I will actually be able to use. Absolutely ABSURD!!!

I have purchased Dell 7378 13' Laptop (Refurbished) in December' 2016. Upon receiving the machine, I have initiated return and received authorization label and returned to Dell warehouse. Dell warehouse confirmed that Laptop was received by them on 7th Jan'2017 and informed me that refund will be credited in 30 to 45 days. This happened in January 2017 and this is June'2017. It's been already 6 months and I have not received my money back.

I have contacted customer support team multiple times (nearly 15 to 20 times) and every time they have told me that something is pending(they are never clear on what is pending)  from verification team, after each time, I have called order verification team to see if anything is pending on my order/account, but they have told that account is clear and there is no activity pending. And when I contact customer support team again upon order verification team confirmation, same story repeated. I have asked both the teams for escalation contacts and asked them for way to work together to resolve this, But I did not get any response or solution for this.

I really want to escalate this to higher level, My funds are being held by Dell even after returning laptop 6 months ago and without anything pending from me/customer. and I have spent lots of time on reaching customer support and order verification team without any result. This is really frustrating experience with Dell teams

I hope I will get some so... Read more

Hello everyone,  I bought a Yoga 920 last week and was really pleased with its performance until yesterday evening. I was clicking through a folder when the screen froze and I had to do a manual reset, which led to a series of blue error screens, more freezing, a Windows reset, and then a completely unresponsive machine (black screen, keyboard lights flashing). I called customer services this morning, who said that they would organise a refund or replacement for me. I really liked the machine when it was performing well, but I'm nervous about sticking with it after such a new machine turned out to be faulty (I'd used Apple products for the past 10 years and haven't had anything like this happen before). I'm currently writing up a PhD and lost that day's work as a result of this (not to mention all the time spent trying to resolve the issue), so I want a machine that's as reliable as possible. I'd like to know what other people recommend, based on their experience with this model - should I stick with the 920 and treat this as a freak occurence, or is this sort of thing common? Thanks!

Hello guys,So I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 touch that recently fell from a table and the laptop itself looks physically OK and has no dents or cracks at all, even the glass touchscreen is ok but the top part of the LCD inside appears to be cracked as there are lines and black cracks on my screen. I recently took the laptop to a Lenovo service center and they told me that they had to change both the LCD and the touch screen module (or digitizer as i have heard) as they come in a package, this costs around $300 and is not worth it since my laptop would cost around the same if sold secondhand. My question is whether there is a way to change just the LCD without changing the touch screen module as it works perfectly fine. After taking my laptop to a technician outside of Lenovo, he claims that seperating the touchscreen module from the LCD would almost always result in the touch screen cracking so it would be unusable, is this true or is it possible to keep the old touch screen module and change just the LCD? Thanks in advance

Hey there, I found a similar topic but unfortunately, there was not a final response that solved my problem. I own a Yoga 13 Ideapad without the backlight function, unfortunately. Recently I watched a video of a keyboard replacement and I would like to do that with mine in order to replace it with a backlight keyboard. The problem is that I am not sure if my model features the needed connections. The model number is: 219159342273 if that helps.  I found backlight keyboards described as "original" Lenovo parts for about 30?. Is that realistic or fake?Thank you for your help!!!

Hi,I sent my Y700 for depot repair after it started malfunctioning, and they could not repair even after two weeks and hence approved my case for a refund. They said the refund will take a week and someone will get in touch. Now, it has been close to 4 weeks, no one has contacted. Everytime I contact the customer care , they mention the machine is in service center still and it needs to reach the warehouse before they can issue refund but they cannot answer why it is taking time. Now, they have closed the service ticket and expired the warranty of the product(still 2 months were left) and the case manager is not even replying to the emails.Should I consider taking legal action against lenovo ?I have all the case number and refund approval mails.

Hi,I purchase Lenovo flex 3 model last year online from lenovo site. Somehow in few months i started getting touch screen/cursor hanging problems in laptop. I called up customer care and try to resolve the issue. They suggested me to do factory reset and try once more.I did factory reset, but issue still persist.Next I debugged the issue with technician online and he asked me to send the machine to repairing center. After 3 weeks I received my machine again factory reset and problem of touchscreen didn't solved at all. Then I again called up technician and asked for refund on 8th December, somehow after multiple follow ups i got a call from CRM Crystal1 holeman and she still didn't agreed to refund and suggested me for another chance of repair. As I already told them that i am moving out of country on December27/28, I want everything to be solved by then. Some how looking at the parts unavailability and my stay in country, she agreed for refund. Thankful to her for that. Now she asked me to send the lenovo laptop to return center with shipping label lenovo had provided. It reached to Lenovo return center on Dec 16th. And same day she agreed to process the refund. She told me that it may take upto 3-5 business days to process the refund. Crystal1 responds very rarely and this looks annoying to me to get my answers.I am still trying to follow up with her to get transaction number to track how far has my refund being processed. Still waiting for my money in my acc... Hi, Does Zemana offer refunds and do they actually do it. I am very dissapointed with them and have approached them for a refund. I have to yet receive a reply.

A:Zemana Refund - Will they refund me? Where can I ask for my money back?

You can request a refund here: Order Detail Request Form

Where it says "Order Request Type", you can select "Refund Request"

Personally, my experience has always been good but security software behaves different with each computer. Whether or not you can receive a refund is probably a case by case basis in which only they can have a sure answer.

Hi allWindows 10 I just don't know what to do next.  Over the past 2 weeks, for no reason I can understand, this blasted Laptop has become almost unuseable.  It freezes or refuses to respond to almost EVERY request I make;  I cannot view images, I receive the message 'working on it' and nothing happens, the same with Documents and Downloads.  I've disabled any add-ons/extensions in Chrome, and on Thunderbird.  I even have the desktop gray out and respond to nothing! I click on the Windows logo at bottom left, and i get the blue circle turning and cannot choose any option. I'm really not impressed with this Laptop.  It's Virus-free and Malware free.  What the heck is going wrong?  There has been an issue since almost day 1 whereas I capital lock, and sometimes   re's no text at all and I have to type again.  REALLY fed up with it.  This is the first Lenovo and will certainly be the last if this can't be remedied.  Any clues anyone? Thanks, Ange

A:IdeaPad 320 only 5 MONTHS old, but almost unuseable!

I would start by disabling any startup items that might be running in the background.    You can do that from Task Manager (right-click Start >> Task Manager) from the Start-up tab (must have more details enabled to see tabs)     Also from within Task Manager you can view running processes and sort them by CPU, Memory, and Disk Usage etc. which might give you a clue to what is going on. It is possible that you've got a bad hard drive (assuming it is not a SSD), because I have bought hdd's that lasted a month and others that lasted forever, so you should probably run a hardware scan using either Lenovo Vantage or the Lenovo Solutions Center to be sure your drive is sound.   You can also check the Windows System Event Log for disk errors too. Best of luck,

I bought an XPS 8900 for Christmas - I work from home and teach online - computer engineering and databases no less.
So I now have an 850$ boat anchor on my hands.  Hard drive died a week ago - Dell sent onsite tech to replace.  Guy took 5 minutes, said You'll be fine. Thing died in about 10 minutes, saying "Windows could not complete the installation."   Rinse and repeat - second hard drive installed today - Guy took 5 minutes, said "You'll be fine."  Thing died again after 5-10 minutes.  "Windows could not complete the installation."
The first failure, Dell supervisor in India (surprise, surprise), said they would replace my computer - well I guess Dell allows their supervisors to lie through their teeth.   After FOUR HOURS ON THE PHONE with Dell (guess where folks ???) the tech person finally threw up their hands - they could not figure out what was going on.
I am now told to JUST PUT IT IN A BOX and send it to the address I'm supposed to receive in an email.  They will Repair it AND SEND IT BACK TO ME.  This company and their tech support is an absolute joke.
I Will NEVER EVER EVER buy another Dell.  Period.

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 710S (i5-6200 128GB SSD 8GB Ram) in August 2016. Used only 2 weeks, the laptop couldn't recognized the hard drive. It was sent to MIAD (local Lenovo certified repair center) and diagnosed as hard drive dysfunction. The technician told me since it is a "consumer" laptop (vs. business laptop such as ThinkPad), they don't have the part to repair/replace. I waited 4 weeks until the new hard drive arrive and the laptop was still not working. MIAD told me it was not hard drive problem and beyond their ability to repair. The laptop was later sent to Lenovo repair center (US).A week later I got a notice from Lenovo said the laptop had arrived but the part they need is in back order.5 weeks later still no sign of getting the problem fixed. Contacted Lenovo and get the same answer. Only compensate so far is extension of my warranty for 2 months. However, no compensation about the usability. For about 10 weeks, I have to use my old Pentium M Thinkpad. If I bought a new laptop, it might already arrived! Conclusion: Don't buy Lenovo "consumer" laptop (Ideapad, Yoga etc), at least in Canada.

Hi there, Malshafey ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Regarding your question the reply is yes, you can upgrade your laptop with extra SSD Drive from Samsung.

Better solution for SSD is Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) which one you can easily obtain through Amazon with a normal price. Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) AMAZON

Hard disk drive ? 2.5-inch, 7 mm SATA III ? 500 GB / 1 TB, 5400rpm ? HYBRID 1 TB 5400rpm SSHD (8G) ? SSD, NGFF, 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB

Additional important information:

1) If you are going to upgrade PC by yourself (install a new RAM and SSD), your warranty won't be voided.

2) Installing an SSD Samsung you will need a screw to attach SDD to laptop, the screw is not included in SSD pack, so there are 2 solutions, you can find or order screw from Amazon or another shop (see laptop manual attached here to see the screw type) or, you can remove 1 srew from HDD drive frame to hold SSD (3 screws are enogh to hold HDD).

Update us how it goes.

Hi diplomat  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Recommended harddrive as provided in the FRU list (item 13 page 95) are 5400 rpm .
Similarly newer systems nowadays may be able to use 7200 rpm as integrated technogy is set to a more faster storage device like Hybrid SSHD amongs the spinning harddrive vesus SSD with no movable parts similar to this case  .

Offered SSHD from the hardware manual list would still run faster than the 7200 as a better upgrade even if rpm is 5400 taking note of different mediums SSHD can use.

Hope this help answer your query.
