Unable to move email form personal folders

Q: Unable to move email form personal folders

I have a personal folder with alot of subfolders in it, when I try to move email from one folder to another it does nothing. The hour glass looks like it is moving but in task manager it is not responding. I can move email from my Inbox fine, but when I try from the personal folders nothing happens. I am running an old gateway 4200 P III 650 with 128 mb of ram and using office 2002 on it as well.

Preferred Solution: Unable to move email form personal folders

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

You know when you click your profile name on the start menu and you see all your personal folders (Docs, Pics, Music, Vids... etc.)

Each time I install a new computer, I move those to the D drive. Process is :Right click the folder and Properties
Click the Location tab
Click the Move button
Select new path
Accept all prompts

Can anyone help me doing this using scripting (vbs, bat...) ?

A:Move personal folders using script

Copying is a Simple script

Rightclick on my little script and change the content.

Change the text "CopyFrom" to the source.
Change the text "Copyto" to the destination.
Keep the "/E" for that is the command to copy everything

Establishment of a list of subfolders under "G: \ System Volume Information" has failed. Access is denied

From Microsoft:

The System Volume Information folder is a hidden system folder that the System Restore tool uses to store its information and restore points. There is a System Volume Information folder on every partition on your computer. You might need to gain access to this folder for troubleshooting purposes.

In normal use one does not need to gain access to that Folder.

Hi all - new to Windows 7 and the forum but had been setup on the Vista forum. Thought I would be able to use the same login but had to register again. Oh well.

I'd like to ask for some advice. I would imagine most users of this forum keep their docs, music, pictures, video on a separate drive or partition from the op system. I have a nice new 1TB D drive for this purpose. What is the cleanest, easiest way to do this? What do you do? Do I actually each folder or move the user folder or just add new folders and attach them to the libraries?

Thanks much.

Just got Inspiron 7000 laptop and only have a small OS drive 128gb. Would like to move user folders to 1tb drive and have windows point to it, so that system can run more efficiently, especially after I add games and other software. I did find a guide at Tenforum, but it warned it is risky on OEM pre-installed win10, because it involves sysprepping and could affect Dell's have custom files.
So does anyone know how to do this on Dell's Win10 Pro?

A:Move user personal folders with script

This wont help with current machines but, with new machines after you add them to the domain but before adding the user, in other words log in as the domain admin first.

Open the registry and browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

change the ProfilesDirectory key to where you want them to point. This will work for any future users added to the machine

Hi friends!
My question is about symbolic links (janction)
One from the reasons to use them is when you are out of space, so you can move folders with a lot of data
to another drive e.g music, videos etc... eg. mklink /j "C:\Users\Name\My music D:\Music, so that personal
folders point to a large drive

My problem is that when I try to do it I get the message "Cannot create a folder that already exist" ("My Music" in C:\)
Now, if I'll name it different is ok. but it is not anymore recognize from programs so is not useful because if I've
manually to store my data in the second drive I'll not get the benefits of symlinks.

I tried many ways... bringing a lot of mess in my system like to move the protected 'desktop.ini' file from "My Music" to
the new link and then delete the original but after I could not anymore open explorer only from the "Computer" shortcut in the
Start menu...

Anyway many words will make you tired... The question is :
Which is the right way to do it? Can someone discribe it? I'm sure there is a right way

Thanks a lot (sorry for my English)

Then I tried a lot of times to remove my email and back again, it is still there. I also removed the additional mailboxes in the screenshot below.

Outlook .pst folders transfer

? I'm trying to copy my Outlook email personal folders, structure as well as content, from my Lenovo T410s laptop(Windows XP, Office 2007) to a Dell desktop(Windows 7, Office 2010).
? I have two separate sets of files, one labelled Archives and the other labelled Personal Folders, both of which have multiple subfolders.
? I've now copied both(using a memory stick), to the Dell desktop.
? I tried the Import and Export feature and also tried the Open Data File feature
? The Archive folder gets copied with all the sub-folders, but I can only access those if the memory stick is inserted into a USB port, even though the Archive folder is saved on the Dell desktop
? When I do the same thing with the Personal Folders, a ?Merge? folder opens but it doesn?t have any content
? I do see the default Personal Folders on the left side of the Outlook screen
What should I do?

I was trying to relocate some of my personal data folders in my User Profile folder (My Music, My Videos, My Pictures). I right clicked on the folder, selected "Properties" and then selected the "Location" tab from the two rows of tabs. I set the location to my D drive (non-system drive). Clicked "Apply" and "OK". A My Music folder already existed on this drive. Got the prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" That worked for the My Music folder.
Then I tried My Pictures folder... same right click, Properties, Location. Set the path to my P drive where I had an already existing My Pictures folder. Got the same prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" Then I got a warning message that said "Unable to copy folder where one already exists (or some verbage similar to that)". So I tried it again. Nothing. Closed out of all folders and then reopened to try again. When I right clicked on My Pictures in my User Profile and selected properties, there was just a single row of tabs with no Location tab. There was no way to change the path of the folder. ??? Puzzling.
So I am looking for a way to repair the User Profile folder and reenable the Location tab on the folder properties.
Just did a clean install last night. Everything else is working smooth.

Hi Gurus,

I can able to delete, rename files/folders.

Pls advise.

A:Unable to Move folders in XP

First try clearing the Clipboard Viewer. Go to Start/Run and type clipbrd and hit enter. Go up to Edit and click Delete. This will clear the Clipboard. Now you should be able to Cut and Paste. If not, this is a memory issues, close as many large running apps as you can, close non-essential taskbar processes...btw just the simple minimizing to tray of a IE or Mozilla browser can give you back enough memory space to regain copy/paste ability.

I've been having serious issues with my folders in the last few days. Recently I have found myself inable to move, or re-name any folder on my computer, or even on a flash drive for that matter. So as it stands, I can't do anything with any folder. I also found out earlier today that I can not recover files that have been deleted into my recycle bin.

I also, can not move any folders, I can copy them all I want, yet I can not move them to another location either on my comp, or onto a flash drive.

I use Vista an an only two month old Compaq CQ60z.

I found a "solution" to my problem, and that was to repair my registry. This aparrently works for other people, but it does not work for me. What it did was to re-make the registry entries for Folder Descriptions. This did nothing.

As a last note, I at one time turned of UAC, but after turning it back on, and off, and on, and off, it hadn't helped in the least. I really hope you guys can find whats wrong, thanks ahead of time for any ones help.

I've updated my windows 7 yesterday (April 28, 2010) with the latest Windows 7 updates. I'm not so sure if that updates causes this to happen but yeah...

Whenever I try to rename a folder, it prompts that box. "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\Users\My_User\Desktop. Verify that the item's location and try again."

If i were to rename a file, like a microsoft word/video file/photoshop file, there wouldn't be a problem.!

I've tried
1) Using CCleaner to fix the registries
2) Run a "Check disk" with the windows tool..
3) Restarted my computer
Yet I can't find any cure!

All current existing folders on the computer will be prompt when it's being rename/move.

I've recently had a problem trying to move files/folders anywhere on my HD.

I wrote a small program to msg the current directory it's being launched from and I'm able to move it around and the message does change

ie; C:\Documents and settings\Ponpokoi\Desktop\Location.exe

I then move it to My Documents and the message changes accordingly.

However whenever i refresh the desktop, or any other location, the file jumps back to where it was originally saved; desktop.

This goes for every single file stored on my HD - they will revert to their original path as soon as a window is refreshed.

On further checks I've noticed that everything is set to Read Only and I'm unable to change this - it too will revert to Read Only on refresh

Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this problem, or what causes it?

I am running Windows XP SP3, and have been for a long time, with no problems or spyware lurking around.

Ever since using Windows 7 I got annoyed that some folders and files seemed immune to my attempts to move them or delete them invoking that "some program" was using them. Since I usually run no less than 5 or 6 main programs and a score of smaller utilities I always assumed tat it was one of may many programs blocking the Moving of folders and files.

Apparently not. Today I was trying to organize my music folder (400GB and as many folders as I have albums) and I kept getting the alert that a program was using the folder.

Aftr some research turns out that the file thumbs.db has a lot to do with it.

I downloaded LockHunter (I needed a 64bit program) and with that I was able to unlock the folders I needed to move. Except that it is a painstaking process and if I continue this way it will take me the rest f the week before I finish.

My solution will be to take the hard drive and connect it to my Mac. From there I should be able to move the files and place it back on the PC organized, but what do people without a mac do?

This is a terrible situation and I can't believe that there is so little coverage on it in the forums. Deleting and moving files and folders is something we have been able to do since 1984 on the Mac Plus. All of a sudden in 2010 we can't do it anymore or we have to invest a full day of work?

A:Unable to move folders because of thumbs.db and win exp

This is an old topic so I don't know if you've solved this. I found that it makes a difference how your files are displayed. If the folder is set (for example) to "List" display then you can't delete the thumbs.db file. However, if you change the display style to "Medium Icons" then you suddenly find that there's no problem.

Re your problem of moving a folder with masses of subfolders, I would imagine that it would simply a matter of setting the top folder to "Medium Icons" and then using the folder options dialog to set all subfolders to that display style as well. I haven't tried this myself as I've not found myself in the situation of having to move more than a few folders at a time.

Clearly the situation is not ideal and I'm still waiting for Windows to realise that it's a bug and fix it in an Update. Waiting.... waiting....

When I upload pictures from my camera, I can't make any changes to the folder the pictures upload to or any subfolders I create within that folder. For example, my pictures will upload into a folder with todays date. Then I can go in and create new folders to sort all the pictures into. I then try to cut and paste each folder to a different location and it tells me that i need admn permissions for this but I am the administrator so I don't understand. I also can't rename the original folder from the date to anything else. However, I can cut and paste the pictures to another folder outside the original one and then delete it. It's very time consuming and frsutrating but I can't seem to find any solutions to it online?? Has anyone else come across this? I have a very basic knowledge of computers - but I would like to avoid taking it to someone to look at it as that can be very costly

A:Help! Unable to move picture folders or rename them

I have been doing a "work-around" that works very well for me, and allows me to customize the photos in any way that I wish. Here's what you can do: When you're in the process of uploading your photos, change the pre-set destination location of the upload from the default location to your "Pictures" folder. (Or, if you can't do that with your camera, perhaps you can move the uploaded folder immediately over to your Pictures folder.)

Then, open the new Pictures sub-folder with Microsoft Office Picture Manager -- which is a great photo app that is standard on all Vista machines (but not the default so most people don't even realize that it's there.) M.O. Picture Manager allows you to do whatever you want with the photos - edit them, resize them, rename them, and much more. Once you have successfully edited your photos, you could, if you wish to, put them in newly created additional Picture folders with different names, for any of your different images.

PS If your system won't let you "move" the uploaded photo folder, you might be able to fool the system by just "copying" the folder, and "pasting" it into your Pictures folder.

PPS For the real answer to your question re: the "administrator" issues, there's some great advice in the Tutorial section regarding running your system and accessing files as the Adminstrator. Here's a couple of them and there's more:

I suggest that you...remove both of the programs you mentioned....then run the sfc /scannow command and the chkdsk /r command.
Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons.  Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.
Relevant info per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Registry :
“The Windows registry stores all application settings in one logical repository (but a number of discrete files) and in a standardized form.  The registry contains important configuration information for the operating system, for installed applications as well as individual settings for each user and application. A careless change to the operating system configuration in the registry could cause irreversible damage, so it is usually only installer programs which perform changes to the registry database during installation/configuration and removal.  If a user wants to edit the registry manually, Microsoft recommends that a backup of the registry is performed before the change.  Editing the registry is sometimes necessary when working around Windows-specific issues e.g. problems when logging onto a domain can be resolved by editing the registry.  The Windows registry can be edited manually using programs such as regedit.exe, although these tools do not expose some of registry'... My email is rocketmail, managed by Yahoo! I have several folders where I store emails I want to keep. I can not get into the "College Admissions" folder where, of course, important info for my college-bound daughter is stored.

I have contacted Yahoo, rebooted and refreshed many times, Yahoo says if they unlock it, I'll lose everything in the folder. Is there no other solution?

I put two e-mails in the file last week - they were in boldface as unread. I tried to open folder to click the emails so they wouldn't appear as unread and that's when I discovered this problem. I couldn't get in.

I added another email to see if that might unlock something but it's stuck in there now, too.
I have about 15 other folders and they all open.
This is the message I get when I try to open this folder:

"There was a problem accessing your mailbox.
We recommend clicking the "Refresh" or "Reload" button on your browser's toolbar. If this doesn't correct the problem, re-login to your account. If the problem persists, click here to send us a report."

Hoping someone can help. Thank you!

Employee claims that while using the Move function to place folders in a different directory tree the folders were moved but the files were lost. I have tried to duplicate the action but have not been able to replicate losing the files. Talked to experts said no way it will happen. One in a million chance it will occur. However, employee claims replicated Move operation multiple times (10-15 folders) and lost files multiple times (7-10 times), but not every time.

Is this possible? I must fire employee for extensive data loss. However, if truly unintentional, and I can replicate as proof-- Employee keeps job.

A:Using Move Function: Move Folders & Lose Files

As the experts you spoke with indicated, there is virtually no way this could happen. Even if there was a copy error that Windows didn't detect and abort the move operation, you'd still likely end up with some sort of file even if it was corrupted and unreadable.

One in a hundred trillion chance of happening.

I have somehow made a disastrous mess of my favorites. I looked online for answers to this problem, and all I can find for a solution is cut and paste. This makes no sense to me for this particular issue because there's no way to "un-indent" a sub-folder and move it back in line with the primary folders.

I hope this is making sense to someone. I don't know how to explain it. Here's one example of the many I have screwed up: I have a "Daily reader" folder and a "Dog stuff" folder. The latter has a lot in it. Dog stuff is now mixed in with Daily reader. How do I make it a separate folder again?

Favorites in Internet Explorer are located in the "C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites" folder. You could open it, and create new folders or move items around as you like.

First off, must explain I aint the most computer minded person here. So if you do have a soloution please provide in idiot speak so as I can understand.

I can open the internet. However, when i try to open up another page the internet freezes. So for example I can be in the Tech Support Guy forum, which I can jump from the Tech Support Guy home page to the Tech Support Guy forum page etc no problem, however, I cannot leave Tech Support Guy to go to Google. As soon as I try to another page in internet explorer tries to open and then freezes.

The only way I can view differnt internet pages is via my favourites. I have to copy and paste the web address from favourites and paste as my home page, close the internet and then re open, this is the only way I can jump from one web page to another.

I have run spybot, ad-aware, avg all of which are showing, nothing.

Does anyone have a soloution?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi! I'll try to keep this as brief as possible, but it's really difficult to explain. One of my email buddies (fortunately he's an honest person) recently told me that any email I send him, from both my home and work computers, has a ton of garbled info attached to the end of the email... The info includes previous emails I've sent to other people, cell phone bill details, shopping details - ANY and EVERYTHING I do online is connected to my emails to him. It doesn't matter what email I use... My Outlook account at work, Gmail, Aol, RR... it all attaches info to EVERY email I send to him. Even the "Read Receipt" he receives when I click on one of his emails has info attached to it. !?!?!?!!! IT'S EXTREMELY DISTURBING! And he also receives info from my family members who use my computer at home, so it's not just MY info he's receiving.

I do know that he is on a "Whitelist" with the company he works for (for a very important reason), so he's not bound to the security that everyone else is protected by. He's had his computer restaged twice and it still keeps happening. He uses Outlook and it happens with his desktop AND his laptop at work.

Have an input form containing a subform. Subform is linked to main record via a unique registration #. Subform contains $ amounts that I want to sum and display on the main form. I've tried using expressions like "Forms![HowPaidSubform]![TotPaid]" on the main form, but all that displays is "#Name".

How can I do this?

Ok here is an odd one:

We intermittently have problems with some of our users. A visitor will come from one site to another login open outlook and they will see their emails disappear.

What is actually happening is that a personal folder has automatically been created and the 'deliver new e-mail to the following location' has changed from Mailbox - username to Personal Folders. Within Outlook two mailboxes appear one being the User's the other the personal folder and all mail has been transfered the personal folders.

The personal folders is stored as a local PST file. So to resolve the issue really isnt a problem. Change the Deliver location back to the User's mailbox. Copy the mail back and close the personal folder.

The issue is that it happens at all. Some users dont notice that the mail has transfered to a local pst and when they go to another PC they appear to have lost all emails!! Recently this has happened where the emails appear to disappear in the same way yet they are not in the local pst, deleted items, permanently deleted items or any other archive files on the PC or network!

This does not appear to be related to autoarhcive as we have it disabled on the PCs. I dont know if there could be a server setting somewhere that could cause this.

The difficulty in resolving this issue is that it does not happen all the time for every person even on the same visitor PC!

I have a new ASUS notebook and it uses Windows 8. On my home pc I have Windows Vista and was able to set up multiply email accounts in Window Live Mail. (my charter, my hubby charter, 2 school google accounts and yahoo)
I was able to read mail coming thru our main email acct (my charter), if an email came thru that needed to go to my hubbys account or another account I was able to drop and drag it to the other account listed on the screen.

I have most of my emails set up on my new ASUS notebook. Is there any way to drop and drag emails from one account to another? I can drag the email and hover over the new email account, but it does not drag it.

Thanks for any help. I am new to the notebook thing and windows 8.

I sent an email to a company using their email form on their site. Is there a way I can retrieve what I wrote in the email to have for my records?

A:Retrieving email sent using websites email form.

Hi LIKENIT, welcome to 7F!

Not that I am aware of. The best you can hope for is when the company replies they use your original query quoted in their reply.

If that doesn't happen the only other way would be to ask if they can send it back to you, but some companies do an instant delete after they reply, it helps to keep the clutter manageable.

I had a folder on my Desktop that just won't delete. I tried deleting it and moving it to another location. It deleted everything within the folder, yet the folder still remained.

I've been having the problem of my Desktop not updating when files/folders are deleted, so I have to manually refresh after a delete to show it gone. Well, the folder decided to stick around. I tried Renaming, Deleting, changing Folder Permissions, Reboot of the Computer.....Nothing seems to help.

If I try to open the folder, I get a "Location is Not Available" along with the "Access Is Denied" error. Going to Properties>Security prompts me that I don't have permission to view or edit permission settings. Under Advanced says the same thing and for Owner it says "Unable to Display Current Owner."

I have tried looking as some of my questions seem silly most of the time - I looked at the link - Take Ownership Shortcut

I hope that I have done it correctly.

I have trialled it on my desktop and it comes up with a CMD screen and then moves the file. When I extracted the .reg it warned me that it would alter some .tmp files - I read the tutorial and I thought that what I did was fine. I know not to take ownership of Windows 7.

I hope the following information assists and I just want assurance that I did it correctly or if I should have tried another means.

I would rather know that I have done something or I will try extracting to remove ... Read more

I just installed MS Outlook 2003 on one of my offices users and I imported a second .pst file because some emails went through before I copied the old Outlook.pst file in.

Now here is the problem;

There is currently 2 'personal folders' and when a new email comes in, it goes to both 'personal folders'. Also, when the user clicks on "new" and then clicks on the "to" button to access his address books, he is prompted with an error that one of the contacts list does not exist, to remove the folder. Then he clicked on "OK" to exit the error and the contact list was there.

I would like to know how to remove the second 'personal folders'. Im guessing this is causing the errors (correct me if im wrong), but I cannot find anywhere to remove that folder. Please any help would be highly appreciated.

Second, less important problem;

When I re-install windows and office. I have to keep their old .pst files. Is there a way I can just put the old .pst into the proper place and their accounts will be already activated and the mail will be there. Or do I need to re-add the account. Im kinda confused on if I need to import the .pst or if a simple pasting of the original .pst is good enough.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
