Yoga 3 Pro Battery Charging Problems

Q: Yoga 3 Pro Battery Charging Problems

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.

After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.

For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Thank you for your help,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I recently noticed that my battery was showing 10 percent when it had been plugged in all day. I plugged it in and it didnt seem like it was charging. I could see the laptop plugged in animation, but it was not charging. I woke up the next morning it was showing 96 percent, which at this point should be 100 percent.  I'm now noticing that it's just not charging.  Are there known issues? Regardless, this is totally unacceptable.

My battery is at 0% available, plugged in charging, but it never goes about 0%. I've tried resetting the battery gauge in Energy Manger 1.0.1.49 but that only runs for a few seconds and reports that the gauge reset is complete. I've also disabled the ACPI control in device manager then enabling it and the icon appears to be charging but only for a few seconds then stops. Having conservation mode on or off doesn't seem to make any difference. The latest BIOS is installed and I believe I have the latest version of Energy Manager. Anyone else having this problem?

A:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

i have lenovo yoga 720 13" inch model, if i charge the battery lights indicator its still turned on even my device after fully charged. so can i charging my laptop overnight, and does my laptop have overcharge protection ??

A:yoga 720 13" charging battery

Hi Ferry-indra,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Placing the laptop connected to the charger overnight with proper autosurge/ voltage regulator device is safe.

The battery itself have a special overcharger protection as described in the manual page 22:
"Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life."

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello,

I seem to be having an intermittent "Not Charging" issue on my Lenovo Yoga 900.

It usually happens when it's fully charged and I unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. If I let it drop below 93-95% it will usually say "Plugged in, charging" again.

Is this some sort of glitch, or a feature? I tried looking to see if I had the "conservation" setting on, and I do not.

I have a few days to take it back to the store if I need to. I'd really rather not send it in because we have problems with couriers dropping off packages that end up getting stolen because we live in an apartment with multiple locked doors, so they usually pitch it beside the door and run off and then someone else takes off with our stuff. Had it happen a couple of times with Amazon orders. (grr)

Thanks to anyone who can answer this!

A:Yoga 900 - Battery plugged in, not charging.

Good day and welcome to the community. This is my experience with my Yoga 900 and Yoga 900S. This way the system isn't trying to constantly top off 1 or 2%, which is not good for the battery. By contrast, Conservation Mode will charge to ~60% and then stop. That has some benefits, also. Personally, I'm not using Conservation Mode, and so far I've not seen any negative effects on my batteries.

Hoipe this helps.Regards.

My Yoga 500 won't charge. While plugged in, the orange battery light flickers on and off, but the battery remains at 0% and says "plugged in, not charging".  This started when the battery fully discharged after I unplugged the laptop for 10 minutes (from 100% battery power).  Can anyone help? I can't even unplug the laptop for a second now or it shuts off completely.  Incidentally, the battery was replaced by Lenovo after I sent it in about 3 months ago because it was faulty. But now the laptop is out of warrenty. This is getting to be beyond a joke!

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I do not know a solution for your problem, but I want to suggest you some trial an error to see if it can be software related issue.

1) Check the Lenovo Settings and see if it asks you to update the System Interface Foundation drivers.
2) Check the support site and just in case check that you have the latest BIOS and the latest "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 "

After that check the "Lenovo Settings" and give it a try turning on the option of "extended the battery life", set it to a 80% and give it some time for it to discharge. After that disable that feature to see if the battery charges back again.

Also on "Lenovo Settings", on the same "battery/power" page it has a "restablish" options, maybe you can also try that later.

Sorry that this is just some trial and error, but it is what it cames to my mind right now.

Regards

What is the charge level? If it is more than 60%, then the battery will start charging when battery level goes below 60%. This would be valid if the battery setting has been set to maximum lifespan in energy management. If optimize for runtime had been selected and it still doesnt charge or in the eatlier option below 60% it is not charging, then you would have to take laptop to support.

Hi  I upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since then my laptop battery is not charging. I am a computer illiterate and travelling at the moment so can not even seek my IT departments help. The problem is that the battery shows 1% charge and when connected it to AC the laptop works well - as soon as I disconnected, it goes into hibernate. The symbol for AC connection does show so the laptop is detecting the charger. Along with this I keep on getting a battery calibration suggestion and says that I have not calibrated my battery in a long long time - although I do it every time it shows up. So I dont know what that is. Before the Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop on a 100% charge was giving me up to 6 hours of usage so I doubt there's anything wrong with the battery physically.  Would appreciate an experts advice on this. Please speak to me as you would to a 4 year old as like I said I'm completely computer illiterate!  Thanks & Regards

That's normal. Windows 10 has a mechanism to protect battery from lowering its capacity. It will start charging when battery level will be less than for example 90%.

Hi, i've had my Yoga 3 (11 inch (windows 10)) version for around 18 months, and never had any issues with charging. Over the weekend (23/10/2016) I plugged in my charger, and nothing happened... this worried me, as the laptop only had 6% battery, and if it was a driver problem, this could be very tricky to fix on a dead laptop. My original thoughts were the cable has somehow broken (despite being in perfect condition), and eventually after moving the cable and carefully pushing it into the laptop even further it started to charge! I decided to see if there were new drivers available for my model, and "coincedentally" a new power management driver was released on 23/10/2016! I tried to install this driver, but as soon as the tool starts to run within a milisecond it closes itself.. So my questions are... 1) Do you think its hardware or driver issue? After messing with the lead, the laptop does charge if you bend the wire in a certain direction making me think it's a hardware issue.2) If its a driver issue, (which the driver update coincedence points to).. Can anyone help me install the driver? http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/Yoga-3-1170/downloads/DS10... Any help on this would be greatly appreaciated. Thankscnagra

Hello, My recently bought Thinkpad Yoga 14 recently had this strange problem going on. The battery goes down, even when the AC cord is plugged in. The battery message says "plugged in, not charging". What exactly is the problem, and how do I fix it? The laptop came with Windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ??

A:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Hi, Hoping someone can help. I have a 3 year old Yoga 2-13, it was the laptop I have ever had until this happened. It was a Windows 8 install and upgraded to Windows 10 with no issues. Sometime last year it stopped charging and I assumed it was an old battery, so lived with it for a while.   Tried a new battery and charger.  Sometime around the battery charging stopping the touch screen also stopped. The battery icon in the tray says "plugged in, not charging"  occasionally it does charge for short periods.  If I unplug the AC adaptor it dies with in a few seconds. If I disable the ACPI in the Device manager it will run on battery for a bit longer, sometimes 5 or 10 minutes There is a constant issue in the device manager in the USB section  "unknown usb device descriptor request failed"  Nothing except the AC adaptor is plugged in. A few days ago when starting up the laptop appeared to do an update of sorts (blue screen with a circle spinning timer) then started up and the battery was charging and the touch screen was working.  The "USB" issue in the device manager was gone.  I allowed the battery to fully charge then unplugged AC adaptor, it ran for a few hours on battery, then again worked for an hour the following day.  Then it shut down without warning, straight to blank screen and off.  Since then both the battey and touch screen are not working again. I have tried all Driver c... Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

Hi my friends, before I say what is the problem and which process I passed last few weeks. My computer model is Yoga 500 14ISK. 3 months ago it started not charging battery and I think that is just self protection for battery and I didn't care for 2 months, because I wasn't using battery anyway. But But when I search internet few weeks ago I realize that is a system problem. Also after decrease to %0 and  when I plug in the electricity, it wouldn't let me open computer at least 10-15 minutes. Then I started to search solutions. I just received my Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop from the Lenova Repair Center - this was the 2nd service request for the battery issue.  The laptop battery still does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.  Sometimes the charging indicator light will indicate that it is charging - but charges 10 - 15 seconds and goes off.  Confirmed the battery is not charging even though the light is not on just to be sure the issue is not with the power indicator light.  At this point the Lenova Repair Center has had possession of my laptop longer than I have in 2017.  Not sure where to turn to, Call Center/Support seems to be encountering problems and can't log a Service Call?   Seriously, I was asked to schedule a call for them to call me when their systems are up?  Laptop is under warranty, but I'm beginning to think they are trying to run out the clock. I'm typing fast - as Battery Life is below 10%   Any and all suggestions are welcomed.Regards.

If you have the paperwork, see what warranty exists and what you need to do to get a replacement.

A:Problems charging the battery

hi well seems to me that there's a problem with one of these components here as one has to be faulty, i would check another adapter first before assuming that its the jack socket as its either one or the other.

The icon in the lower right hand corner says it is plugged in and charging but this charge doesn't seem to be updating. If I unplug my computer the charge starts to fall. It's down to 22% now so I'm getting a bit desperate.

Hello, I am having an issue with my PC charging. It's been doing fine, until the other day. Even though the battery is at 68%, and the computer is plugged in, it won't charge. If not plugged in, I can't even turn it on, and the yellow power light blinks. The computer itself runs normally once it is up and running. FYI I have had this problem in the past, and I think it self-corrected after a few days. But how can I fix this for good?

Hello, I have a HP 4530s with this problem: If I remove and insert the battery while Windows is running, the battery charges for a little while and then stops charging ("Plugged in, not charging). An orange light is blinking near the power connector. If I remove and insert the battery again, it charges for a while and then stops again. If I turn off Windows and disconnect AC power, if the orange light was blonking, it continues blonking (didn't wait to see how long). If I do this enough times, the battery charges to full. When I disconnect the AC power the laptop works normally on the battery (battery capacity is OK). What I have tried:1. removing the battery, disconnecting AC, holding power button for 40s, reconnecting AC, starting Windows, shutting down Windows, inserting the battery.2. Updating the BIOS to the latest version (F60) - this actually helped because previously the battery was not detected at all if removed and inserted until I did #1.

Hi, I have an HP Pavillion dv6253cl (dv6000 series) with Vista Home, and I'm having problems getting the battery to charge. First off, I should probably say that there was a power outage due to rain and lightning last night when the laptop was in hibernate, and the problem first started this morning when I booted it back up (probably not a coincidence). My HP warranty is expired, so I can't turn to them.

I'm currently running off AC power, and if I were to unplug the cord even for a second, the computer would lose power and shut down (I tried once). The battery is plugged in, but there is literally no power, absolutely 0%.

The blue light around the AC adapter works fine, and when the battery is plugged in, the charging light on the front is lit up as if it is charging. When I take out the battery, the charging light goes out, then turns on when I plug the battery back in. Also, when I plug the battery back in, the battery sign in the taskbar indicates that it is charging, but it stops after maybe 10 seconds.

It will also periodically say in the taskbar that it is 100% charged, but it will go back to 0% after a few seconds. I'm not sure why.

Things I've tried:
1. Shut down computer, remove AC and battery for several minutes, plug both back in, boot up computer. Didn't work.
2. Downloaded HP's "Battery Check" software. It says that it is 0% charged, and under "Health", it says "Replace". Not good.

I hope someone here would helped me out in my problem. I bought my Toshiba Portege M900 last 2010. I would always plugin the charger to my laptop when I am at work.

There this one time that when I turned on my laptop, the battery was about to be empty like 7% remaining. I took my charger and plugged it in. After 5 seconds, it turned off without any warning or so.

I checked the lights in the laptop, the "charging light" is not ON despite that the charger was plugged in the socket. I tried to use the charger to my other Toshiba Sattelite Laptop and it worked.

I tried to remove the battery of the Toshiba Portege M900 Laptop from its place and plugged again the charger but still it did not turned ON.

So I took my Toshiba Portege M900 to the nearest service center. But surprisingly when I got there and related the problem to the technician, the laptop turned on after it was plugged. The technician said, he couldn't see any problems because the laptop was charging and it turned on right.

But when I took it home, whenever I remove the charger from the socket of the laptop, it would turn off immediately without any warning eventhough that battery is 100% charged.

And there were times, even if I remove the battery from the laptop but still plug the charger in.. the laptop will still NOT TURN ON.

I tried to check the Toshiba PC Health Monitor, but it would said that the battery is working good. What do you think seems to be the problem? Is it the bat... Read more

A:Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging

> Is it the battery, or the power jack, or the motherboard or the charger

I don?t think its battery issue.
Why? Because the notebook does not power up even if the battery is removed but connected to AC adaptor.

_Power jack?_
Maybe. It could be possible that power jack or connection between the power jack and the motherboard isn?t ok.

_Motherboard?_
It could be an problem with power supply electronic which is part of the motherboard but once again; this is just an idea?

_Charger /AC adaptor?_
Hmm? you said that the AC adaptor has been tested with another notebook and it worked. So possibly it?s not AC adaptor issue.
But are you sure that the other notebook did not run at battery power?
Has the AC adaptor been tested properly? This is an open question.

Another idea:
What BIOS version do you have installed on M900?
Found an BIOS update for the Protege M900
+BIOS version 2.40 upgrade for Portege M900 and Satellite Pro U500( For PSU56*, PSU5C*, PSU5J*, PSU5Q*, PSU86*, PSU8G* and PSU53* ONLY)+
http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/support/drivers/details/30516

There you can find an detail about fixed issue:
+System may not power on without using AC Adapter after the battery has been detached and reattach again. This has been fixed.+

Please check if your Portege M900 is one of the mentioned models and check if an BIOS update is available for your unit.

First things first, Dell Inspiron 1501 NOT 1505. Ok? Now, this computer is pretty used, and long lived somewhat at 3 years, one battery. Last year, it completely accpeted no charge. I am on it, using AC power. I wouldn't mind AC power too much, but the power cord providing AC power, is sooooo mucked up. (will it stay in long enough to post this message???) I COULD buy a new battery (100$!!?!?), yet my dad has no job ATM. Any suggestions? PLEASE!

I have an HP Split, it currently works fine in tablet mode, but when I attach it to the keyboard, the screen becomes unresponsive to touch, the keyboard doesn't work, no does the charger, or the mouse.  The laptop is only a year old, and it is extremely frustrating that many people are having this issue and there does not seem to be a working solution posted anywhere.  Also,  I am dissapointed that HP has no alternative docking system to use with the split to serve as a work-around when this issue occurs.  I depend on my laptop for work, and I am immensely dissapointed.  This will most likely my first and last HP laptop.
