Preferred Solution: Problems at Windows boot (pleas help)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You could help US by using a meaningful title for one thing.
Then you could fill out your user-profile, tell us what OS you use, etc.
THEN we might be able to help you.

I have a ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256 MB card, Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ Processor with HT enabled and 1 gig of RAM. Everything worked fine before.

I could play BF1942/Vietnam (SP) with 64 bots on the highest graphic settings and it would run smooth as silk. I had to reformat my computer because Windows crashed itself somehow and wouldn't load. After reformating and reinstalling, WIndows would not load and simply go to a black screen after the Windows logo splash screen.

After a length discussion with ATI, I changed some of my bios settings, mainly disabling RAID and setting the AGP Aperture size to 256. This didn't fix the problem, though, and somehow later it just randomly started working. However, with the aperture size at 256 BF was lagging horribly. So I decreased it to 128 then back to 64 (default). The game runs better, but not like it used to before, and I still can not play with 64 bots on a map that I would always play with 64 bots. It also does this with Republic Commando and every other game EXCEPT MVP 2005. For some reason, now, every time I play BF1942 or RC my cpu usage goes to 100%. It should not, because it did not before, go up that high. Usually it was at 40% before. Anyone know why my processor is lagging and overworking all of a sudden?

I have the most recently updated version of the catalyst drivers. I have a 3dMARK03 score of 5175. Is that good? The thing that I did notice was that during the CPU test 2, my framerate was HORRIBLE! It says it was a... Read more

On your desktop there is a Recycle Bin icon. Right click that and then choose properties.

Set/change the recycle bin options for each drive and see if that fixes the problem. Even if the current settings are as you want them, change them to something else just for the sake of it. The okay those changes. Work?

Today I installed new antivirus for my computer. I am on a gateway and I am using windows xp. While the program was sweeping my system the screen took off all icons and closed all toolbars so I restarted my system thinking it froze. When I turn on my computer it goes to the load screen and just keeps looping the bar. I have also tried to run the restore disk but when I try that it does the same thing it tries to load it and when it starts to load it just freezes... Is there anything I can do to force the disk to run or get into windows a different way. I just need to get this fixed im not that great with computers so any help is really appreciated.

Yes, you should be able to add a sparate video card in, replacing the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE that's built into the motherboard. IIRC there is one x16 slot and one x1 slot.

Its a neighbor of mine I help them take care of their computer all the time.

The problem is the screen freezing randomly, it might be in 3 min might be 5 or 10 or 25, it does it after it has been turned off for awhile or all night or when you have been on it for awhile or quite awhile. Point being its not heating up cause it does it when it has been off for hours them 3 or 4 min after it is turned on or sometime it might be 2 hours after you turn it on. I had a thread a couple of weeks ago about this same computer I came to the conclusion that it was the Powersupply, so I put in a brand new 400W powersupply and it ran great (no freeze ups for a few days then all of a sudden it started in again).

The mouse freezes so they can't do anything but shut it down at the tower so I gave them another usb mouse tonight and told them when it freezes to unplug there mouse and put the new usb mouse in and see it it works right away then it would be the mouse. I have great doubts about it being that but I am at witts end. I consider myself pretty good at fixing computers hardware and software problems but I am lost. I have no idea. I looked in the divice manager everything is ok, checked the events and nothing happening there. I know the computer is clean of viruses or spyware cause I keep it clean for them monthly.

A:Solved: Windows XP SP2- Screen freezing-no pattern- but lots- Can someone help? Pleas

The first thing that comes to mind with older machines is overheating. They can accumulate a lot of dust (even in the cleanest places) and fans can get bogged down. Check all your air intakes and remove dust from the interior. Make sure that all fans are moving (including the one on the graphics card, if present).

While inside, check all your connectiuons and make sure the graphics card is firmly in its slot.

If that doesn't help, try a memory test:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

Greetings,

I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit alongside Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS in dual-boot configuration with GRUB 2.02beta2. Both OSs are up to date; however, occasionally I do not get the animated Windows logo in the Windows 7 boot-up and a distorted screen is displayed instead until I am presented with the login screen. This issue was non-existent before my Ubuntu installation and I am not able to fix it. I should also note that the Windows 7 boots up, but this artefact is really annoying. I already posted this on askubuntu.com but received no reply, for screen-shots you may wish to check it:

After Ubuntu installation, Windows experiences boot-up issues - Ask Ubuntu

So far I have tried a command on the Windows 7 console but it did not resolve the issue. By the way I experience this problem occasionally and in these cases mostly the laptop is running on battery power. My laptop brand and model is Dell Latitude E5440, respectively. Any help and/or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

A:HAVE 2 OP Pleas HELP!

Normally a Vista upgrade archives your old XP files into a folder called "Windows Old" and leaves it in the new Vista installation on the C drive. You can save files from this folder or delete the folder if you wish.

Vista would not have left XP installed.

Got a nice pc and Im always running at 60 fps in wow.
for about a week ago I downloaded new BIOS update thing and my fps went to hell after i restartet my pc.

I have not downloaded new drivers for my graphic card. so thats might the problem?

The BIOS and grapichard must work together and they dont without new drivers for the graphic card? Is that so?

Found it weird that the update made the computer slower...

Can i get my old BIOS back in some way? and is it risky to flash it? what should i do?

As i said it has always been running at 60 fps. Never under 50 at raid..

That bios update has screwed my pc up

A:pleas help me!

You should always update your graphics card drivers when an update is released. There is really no need to ever update your BIOS drivers, I never have, and I've never needed to.

After you update your BIOS, you need to check if all the BIOS values are set correctly (Updating your BIOS can change important values that can mess up your computer).

Since I don't know what kind of computer/BIOS you have, I can't really help you, but you can go into your BIOS if you don't remember the values and see if their is either a "Reset to default settings" or "Load optimized defaults" setting, if there is, then do it, that might reset it to the proper values.

I DO NOT suggest your flash your BIOS unless you really do know how and you know the dangers of doing it, because if you mess up you can destroy your entire computer, or at the very least, have a computer without a working BIOS (AKA, not useable).

Oh, and also, this belongs in the Hardware section, not the Games section.

Hey there,
So I have recently grabbed the latest copy of Windows 8 (Build 8400 Eval. Copy) and installed it within minutes.
A few restarts later , and everything is working smooth.

Note: I installed Windows 8 alongside Windows 7 Home edition on a different partition **But same HD**

Suffering through programs that won't run correctly,
I take a visit back to good old (if you can call it that) Windows 7.
And what do you know, No USB port is functioning.
Therefore, my wireless keyboard and mouse (Logitech mx 3200) aren't working :The reciever isnt lighting up:
My printer nor external hard drive aren't showing up in the "removable device section".
Meaning i can't see that green icon on my task-bar showing up displaying that they're connected.

( In the end, im stuck at the desktop with my mouse centered without movement)

Now the weird part,
The ports are addressing power to the components, but no useful information is being passed on.
What i've tried is...

1) Trying to unplug the receiver and back. - no use
2) Trying a different keyboard and mouse (USB) - not recognizing
3) Uninstalling the driver (for the reciever) in Windows 8 -
no progress (error message on memory access pops-up after tapping my computer's physical power button)
4) I've tried different USB plugs - Even though i have 10 of them, none of them are functional

One important fact : The wireless keyboard works during boot.

Hi , i need urgent help , here what happens:
I have a server PC on which was installed windows 7 first then on another partition I installed the windows 2008 server , when i boot i usually got 2 options to select.
Now the problem is that i don't want windows 7 partition so i tried to format it from windows 2008 , I could not , so I started with a Windows 2008 DVD and deleted the windows 7 partition successfully . Now when I restarted , it gives a message that there is no operating system at all?
what to do? I am pretty sure that the windows 2008 partition is still existing, i can either see it files through cmd.
how can I fix this , specially that it is the main DC in my company.please help

A:Problems when trying to boot windows 2k8 server and deleting windows 7

You did this on the main DC of your company? That could get you terminated in many places.

I'm not sure if it exists for a server OS, but if there is a repair method, such as a start up repair from booting the disc, I would try that.

I set up my machine with two partitions, one for video editing and one for office software. That's because the video software demands a very clean system with few services running. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is installed on both partitions. The editing OS was installed first, which makes the office OS the one which automatically boots up.

I have never had occasion to restore that system to an earlier date... until today. Suddenly I have no audio, no network, I can't access any folders because I don't have permission. The video driver crashed. I'm facing a complete re-install of the OS and software on that partition. Could this be caused by the dual boot configuration? If so, is there a work-around?

Michael

A:Dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 7 restore problems

Dual boot should not cause this or have anything to do with your issues.
Restoring your Editing OS should not affect your Office OS, and vice versa.
I'm assuming you did not modify the Editing OS partition while you were running the Office OS.

I run multi boot PC's, and use Backup Images for all the OS's (partitions).

Many times I have restored an Image for one OS and not affected other OS's.
I don't remember if I ever used a System Restore point, as I prefer to restore a system Image, but I would use a Restore Point it that's all I had.

I recommend you create a System Image of your good OS now so you have it if you ever need it.

This weekend I rebuilt my pc with ALMOST all brand new parts. Here is what I put in it.

CPU - Intel Core i3-2120 LGA 1155

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper TX3

Motherboard - ASUS P8H67-M LE

Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 560

Case - CM Storm

OS - Windows 7 (OEM)

Memory - Crucial 2x4GB sticks

CDROM - ASUS DVD RW

Power Supply - Cooler Master GX750W

The only piece I reused was my hard drive. It's a 160GB Seagate. When I tried to format it with the new windows 7, it only registered 149GB. Didn't really seem like a huge deal, but after I fully installed, booted, and ran my first set of updates and installed drivers, it asked me to reboot. Sounds good. It booted to the windows logo, and then turned to a black screen forever. Nothing I did would change it. I restart, it asked me to run a repair, I did, restarted again, same problem. I then reinstalled windows again, reformat again, still 149GB available. After drivers and updates, same problem.

My question is, does this look like a windows problem, a hardware problem, or is it possible that the 11GB missing on my hard drive is corrupt / funny and messing with my system.

I have several problems, one is I cannot boot into safe mode. When I hit F8 and select safe mode, it starts to boot, then bring me back to the login choices screen.

I recently tried System Configuration Utility

Close all open programs.
Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
As shown in this illustration, type msconfig and then click OK.

The System Configuration Utility appears, as shown in the following illustration. Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK.

Well, now my pc is in a constant state of re-booting, as it cannot boot into safe mode, and I do not know how to turn that option off.

I have tried using my Windows XP CD to repair the installation, however during the repair process, windows needs to, you guessed it, re-boot, and it is still trying to boot into safe mode.

Help? Thank you in advance! Microshaft :knock:

So, here's the problem. Last week, I started having trouble booting up my computer. It does one of three things:
Lights up, fans are spinning, but never gets to BIOS screen. Requires unplugging everything and then plugging it back in to start.
Gets to splash screen on BIOS, sticks for about 45 seconds to a minute, then proceeds to load Windows VERY slowly. (Usually takes about 10 minutes for the whole system to finally boot up).
Gets past BIOS splash screen and says that it's had a boot error and requires the system disk. When the system disk is inserted, it freezes on a black screen after "Loading Windows Files" has completed.
Either way, the computer does not work properly once it has booted up. It's sluggish and buggy. System restore does not work, neither does booting from the disk. My only guesses at this point are a bad installation of a system update, or some type of hardware failure (perhaps power supply or motherboard).

Motherboard is an ASUS, hard drive is a brand new (within 6 months) Samsung, operating system is Windows 7. If you need any more information, please let me know.

Ok, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this, it's really annoying me.

I used to have a dual boot with windows XP on C, and 2k on D, however the drives were both FAT32 (due to upgrading from winME), and I decided to change this to NTFS, and just run win2k. Now, the first thing I did was to empty out the Win2k drive and reformat it to NTFS, then reinstall the OS on there. Everything went fine, until I tried to reboot into Windows XP - it would not boot at all, but Win2k worked fine.
The next thing was to clear out the WinXP disk and format that one. Now here is my problem - That HDD is formatted and I tried putting the NTFS Win2K drive as the main drive, but it will not boot from that.

I need to know if there is anyway to replace the boot files and everything on this win2k disk, without having to do a full reinstall.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, but I have tired the repair feature from the 2k Startup disk, but to no avail - it says it cannot find a win2k installation on this disk.

Any help/pointers in the right direction will be most welcome.

I built a computer recently and installed XP onto one of the HDD (one of the HDD had Win98 on it aswell, I decided to leave it on).
Anyway recently I went to start up XP and the message:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attemp to repair this file using Windows Setup using the original CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
came up.

I decided to restart the computer and press F8 and selected Last Good Configuration. The computer restarted and it worked grand.
Now today I turned on the computer and the same message came up. I tried last good config again and it didn't work this time, the message just came up again.
I should be able to fix it again when I get the disks back, but my mam took them into work and I don't have them back yet.
Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me why this keeps happening and is there anything that I can do to keep it from happening again, as I have to hand it in as a school project in 10 days time and I don't want this to happen when the person looking at it tries to turn it on. Also Win 98 still works in case that matters.

Any help would be appreciated as to why this is happening and if there is another way of fixing it without the CD so I don't have to wait over the weekend to get this done.
Cheers

There's a chance some files such at your boot.ini or ntldr file has been corrupted in some way during the installation. I hate to say this, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea if you reinstalled the OS.

So recently my computer was getting bogged down with programs and files so I backed up my files and reinstalled the operating system. At the time I was running Windows 7 but since I had recently purchased Windows 8.1 I decided to use that instead. After installing the operating system I went online to download the necessary drivers and software because they had not been installed with the operating system. However I have had a problem shutting down, restarting, and sleeping my computer. I have a new Dell Inspiron 5558-2571blk that's give a boot error on start up. I tried the Windows repair ( w/o the recovery disc) and the system did not repair fully, but did boot after two power cycle starts and runs the OS.

I still have to complete the Windows update, BIOS, and various driver updates.

Should I do a Recovery / Troubleshoot in Windows and attempt a Recovery? Or just do a clean Win 8.1 install? I have the Recovery Discs.

If the above works should I install Windows 10 at this time? I usually wait until the OS matures to the next rev release because of bugs and driver availability. I don't know if Win 10 is different in this respect.

I am having a problem with my computer. I am running an ABIT KN8 SLi with an AMD 64 3000+ processor, 1gb pc2700 ram, ATI X800 video card. The problem started yesterday. I came home after being away from the computer for quite a few hours and the computer looked like it hung up. The screen was on and it did not go into stand by mode. I restarted the computer and it was fine, used it for a couple of hours then it hung up again. When it hangs up it literally just stops processing anything remains on and the harddrive light turns off. I turned off the computer waiting a few minutes and turned it back on. Now it sits at the ABIT boot screen for a few minutes then it goes into normal system start-up as soon as the black windows xp scrren appears it stops doing anything. The status bar does not move or anything. I cannot boot in safe mode. I am at a complete loss, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am currently using XP Pro with SP2. There have not been any software or hardware changes in a couple monthes.
Thanks

Could be power supply dying but more likely death of hard drive.

Hello,

I installed linux madrake on my second HD, and it disabled the boot from the first one, now I can't boot my Windows XP without using a boot disk that points to the disk.

How can I activate that disk so I can boot directly from it?

OBS: I removed the linux HD and instaled it on another PC, so, I need just a toll or tip on fixing the boot sector with XP...

After I installed NETGEAR Genie, I noticed it was taking my desktop a while to sleep AGAIN...

I tried uninstalling NETGEAR Genie, and the uninstall process got stuck. Finally, I shut it down. Upon turning it back on, it got stuck on the black screen that says "ACER explorer beyond limits" with the little black dots spinning in a circle. So, then I did a startup repair and afterwards, it booted fine. Wouldn't it be a good idea to remove NETGEAR Genie?
