I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I own a Lenovo G700, and I have heard that Shift + F2 will get you into the BIOS. It might work if all else fails. You can also call Lenovo support or search around a bit more. But in my case I have to use the hardware OneKey Recovery button to access it.

hi sivasandeep99,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you have tried FN+F2 when boot?
Or holding down Shift and clicking restart?
If those steps did not work either,  You might need to contact Lenovo Technical Support and have the system shipped to Repair Facility for BIOS Reflash.

Found this article but it is for the same model that has same issue like yours.

I decided to upgrade my BIOS today because of it being too obsolete.I downloaded it from the Lenovo website, i install it, the pc restarts and success! All fine right?Well, i shut down my pc, press the BIOS button (i guess it's a BIOS button i don't know what it's called) i select the BIOS and guess what, it asks for an admin/supervisor password, i really need to get into the BIOS and i can't because of some strange mistakes of Insyde or Lenovo.Maybe it's your fault, mine not becuase before the update i entered the BIOS to see if all was fine and it didn't ask me to enter a password. What can i do now?I'm really mad right now and i hope to get an answer soon. I've already tried to look for some ways to remove the admin password but the support for the Lenovo G500 is really poor.

Lenovo G500 - BIOS stopped detecting DVD-RAM Drive
In fact DVD Drive has worked properly about 10 months and now disappeared from BIOS. DVD is also not visible in Device Manager.

DVD Drive is integrated in laptop. When I push the DVD?s button, LED indicator flashes and tray ejects. When I place a CD and close the tray, the LED indicator starts blinking and a noise of rotating can be heard. After several seconds the blinking stops first and noise after that.

My question is if there is any way to check whether the DVD Drive is really broken and needs replacement or something in my BIOS settings is wrong?

The BIOS was recently updated to the newest version available in Lenovo Support. That caused no problems with DVD Drive and it worked normally.

A week ago I updated successfully Windows 7 Professional x86 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 via Windows Anytime Upgrade (not using DVD). After that I haven?t use the DVD drive until today. I am not sure if it is possible that Window upgrade to cause DVD Drive to disappear from BIOS.

Computer is Lenovo G500, Product: 20236, Serial: xxxxx, BIOS: 78CN23WW(V2.03)

Any advice will be much appreciated.

A:Lenovo G500 - BIOS stopped detecting DVD-RAM Drive

hi Mavros,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

AFAIK, if the DVD drive is not detected in the BIOS then it's likely that the device is malfunctioning / failing (the mechanical parts that turns ON the drive and spins the disc maybe operational but the circuit board that stores the firmware maybe faulty)

More info:
ODD Mechanical Parts

What you can try is to boot into the BIOS, press F9 to load factory settings (this resets the hardware components connected to the machine) and press F10 to save and exit.

If resetting the BIOS to factory settings doesn't work, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may need to get a replacement DVD drive.

My G50-80 will not boot. The Lenovo logo appears but not the loading wheel, and it hangs endlessly at that screen. The onekey recovery button yields the same result. No boot menu. Also, the power light and charging light are both lit, even though the charger is unplugged. I've tried removing the battery as well. Haven't been able to find any other instances of this issue. Anybody have a clue? Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

I can access  the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment using CTRL Fn held down at boot.    I have run it twice, returning no faults.   Tapping the F8 key at boot has no effect.

Problem: When the computer is powered on it boots normally. However, all function keys or cmd keys to get into BIOS (F2), BOOT Menu (F8), Set up menu (F12) are disabled.

Possible Cause: Ransomware, I know for a fact my son installed a .exe file that put ransomware on his computer due to the HDD being locked and inaccessible. Also, when logging into his user he is prompted with the ransom log on by GoTLINKS.

Attempted Fixes: I've tried removing the HDD cables and booting in hopes of getting forced into the boot menu. However, no drives are detected and I am prompted to insert the OS Disk and hitting ENTER. Upon doing so all KBoard keys are disabled and computer must be restarted. At this point the computer will boot from the OS Disk and allow for a install of windows or windows repair. Upon trying to reinstall the OS (after plugging the HDD back in) the OS Key states it is not retrievable, even though it is on the tower of his desktop. This happens after the key is inserted. Take it that you already tried Esc, F2, F10, F12, Del, Ins, etc... repeatedly during boot up/splash screen.
If so, next I would shutdown the machine and hold down several keys at once and boot up.
The intent is to cause a keyboard error to force access to the BIOS. It may work.

My Acer Extensa 5620Z originally came with Vista, then I clean installed Win 7, now upgraded to Win 8. Since the latest upgrade, I am unable to access BIOS or the boot menu. The black and white boot screen used to say to press F12 for boot menu, and something else for Setup, those messages are no longer there. And those key combinations do not work. I've also tried some other combinations I've found in searches - F2, Alt-F10, ctrl F10, alt ctrl F10, F8, del, esc. None work.

Could the upgrade has modified the firmware somehow? Boot screen says Phoenix bios, TrustedCore v1.32 - I think that is the same it has been.

Thanks

Okay where do I start? When I first got my notebook around 2 years ago, it was perfectly fine. A few months from now, that's when it started to mess up in so many ways. My system constantly froze randomly, Windows had trouble booting the system, etc. Aside from these issues, I figured I had to factory reset my system in order to fix it. I did this and my system worked fine, only if I was lucky enough to successfully boot it up. It takes 40+ minutes for it to boot up and it works perfectly fine when it does and when I'm browsing through the desktop, but I think there may be major hard drive issues with it. The D drive/partition, or as it's called, the recovery drive, is inaccessible and empty. When I factory reset my laptop, I was able to open it but it was empty. After a few Windows Updates and boots, I can't do this anymore. Bare in mind I was running Windows 8.1 at the time. This partition could be the main culprit as to why my system takes so long to boot up, but I could be wrong. The only things I've installed on it is Windows 10. These are the things I've done with no success: -Run my notebook without the battery and only the charger-Remove the CMOS battery when booting up notebook-Remove the disc drive and boot up notebook I'm honestly running out of ideas. I've tried looking at the other forums but I think my issue is a lot different then theirs. On the other hand I can sometimes successfully boot up my system so maybe having this could give me... We're having a problem getting access to the BIOS (F10), Boot Menu (F9), etc from a new Elite X2 1012 G1. We deployed our Windows 10 image to it and now we're unable to access anything. We upgraded the BIOS from 1.14 to 1.16 but that hasn't fixed the issue. The tablet boots in to Windows everytime, happily ignoring our attempts to press F10 or F9. Anyone run into this before? We've got over 200 of these on their way in and it's going to be a nightmare if we can't fix this.

I've just had a new Lenovo Core i5 g500 arrive to test during Best Buy's 2 week return policy period. I've shrunk C, updated to latest BIOS, reset BIOS Boot tab to DIsable Secure Boot, UEFI choice. I then can only get into BIOS menu via Windows 8 Advanced Startup settings since no hotkeys respond, choose UEFI Flash stick to boot, this message flashes: "EFI device has been blocked by current Security policy."

So I reenter BIOS through 8, change to Legacy Support with UEFI First boot. When I reboot into BOot choices it shows the Kingston USB2 stick in both UEFI and Legacy boot choices. I choose UEFI and it gives the missing driver error. Can't choose Legacy because it would want to delete and reformat as MBR.

Before on an Asus discussed here http://www.eightforums.com/general-s...t-seven-2.html I made the Paragon 12 boot disk to image entire HD before wiping to install 7 but it wasn't necessary because I was able to install in the shrink space even though 8 wasn't bootable (a great position to be in). Is this possible on Lenovo? Anyone?

A:New Lenovo G500 need to install 7 in Dual Boot with Ate

Got it. Somehow the Rufus flash stick installer had gone bad as proven when I tried it in another UEFI machine. I reformatted it and was able to install in Legacy with UEFI First.

Once other weird thing is that the latest Lenovo BIOS kept changing back to Secure Boot after each attempt, as though it recognized I hadn't installed another OS and was re-securing 8. Now we'll see if it does it again after Win7 boot up, and if 7/8 can each boot under Legacy.

hi hakaa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If I'm not Mistaken you want to boot the system to your Installation Media, right?

First you can try the hitting F12 when you press the power to turn it ON.
If your Lucky the BIOS is already configured and hitting F12 should give you the Boot menu and will let you choose to boot from CD/DVD, HDD or USB.

If hitting F12 did not give you Boot Menu Option,
Turn the system ON and start hitting F2, Now This will Let you Boot into the BIOS and will give you option to change the Boot sequence,

Hope this info helps,
Please let s know if you have further questions,
Thanks,

Hi nikar15 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.
Was it previously on Win8.1 ? Did you manage to create a recovery media ?

It would have to power drain the machine by removing the charger , battery and harddrive and to press and hold down the power for 12 seconds.

Without the harddrive and battery , try going to the BIOS by FN + F2 or use the Novo button to start. If you manage to get the BIOS set up screen , go to the Exit Tab and load optimal defaults and save and exit. Turn off and put back the battery and harddrive and check.

Update us how things go.

Regards

The problem started when i changed to legacy mode when windows installation started giving me trouble. What i think would fix the problem is to either change back to UEFI mode from windows, or to get in the BIOS menu somehow..Does anyone know how to do either of those things? any other ideas are more than welcome

Hello,
I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file.
This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0.
When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of
the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties.
How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu?
I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file?
Thank you.

Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

My new Lenovo T570 always fail to boot/startup normally. When i press the power button to start the laptop, it will display a page showing the following: "Lenovo", "To interrupt normal startup, press enter". This page will remain displayed permanently. This problem was noticed few days after i launched the laptop. I thought it would resolve on its own but it became worse. Now when i pres the power button, it will either display the above page or it will show the boot menu/app menu page. Please what might be the cause and the possible solution?. Thanks.

So when I turn on my lenovo u410 laptop I get this menu box up as seen below in a black background. I've played around with the menu and I get nothing. This has been happening for the past few days and usually it manages to get past this and start up normally. However today is the day it's decided to stay put and I have no idea what to do. This is very frustrating as I only bought the laptop less then 2 months ago. Please help!     It's windows 8 btw

Hi N_A,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to guide you in a way to try to set the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) inside the BIOS to be the first priority booting order so we will try to return the BIOS to factory default settings:

Step1: Please turn off the machine and then at the left side you can see the NOVO button which is the button with the curve arrow

Step2: Press on the NOVO button and then you will get option press on BIOS Setup

Step3: Please press on FN+F9 together and then press Enter on Yes option and then FN+F10 to save and exit and then press Enter

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

Hello world, I am Kiran.
As you can see in title i have a problem i am finding solution for 2 days by now. Found many suggestion on what to do on youtube, yahoo answers and many other alternate sites but unfortunately there was no solution for me, i mean i am beginner as compared to many people on this forum and i think there are many thing i haven't tried yet as i know this forum can suggest it.
Problem is i am not able to navigate or perform any operation in bios once i am there. its weird since if my keyboard wasn't supposed to work in bios i shouln't even able to get there by pressing Del key in the first place; or f12 for boot selection menu. from the menu it like froze up there. it works fine in windows ones i m in, or within that f8 key operations that brings up several options and safe mode during startup. so its only not working in cmos/bios munu snd boot selection.
here's the Detail of hard ware:
     1. gigabyte motherboard model:g31m-es2l
     2. logitech ps2 keyboard
     3. not necessary i think (core2 duo, ddr2 2 gb X2 RAMs, 2gb Nvidea grafics)

     Things i've already tried:
1. clear cmos by jumper
2. changed cmos battery(since it was depleted after 1 yr of no use)
3. tested with another ps2 keyboard
4. updated bios from gigabyte online services 2 times
5. removed viruses lol and still cleaning
6. countless time pc restart by pressing bu... Read more
